NFL Prediction Week 12 Preview & Pick- 49ers vs. Redskins

NFL free pick and Prediction for Monday nights game San Francisco vs Washington

San Francisco 49ers (6-4) @ Washington Redskins (3-7) 11/25- 8:30PM EST

Line: SF -5.0

Over/Under: 47.0

Monday night’s game will feature two teams in the midst of a two game losing streak as the San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins featuring their quarterbacks Colin Kaepernick and Robert Griffin III meeting head-to-head for the first time as the two took the NFL by storm last year season as full-time starters.

Kaepernick and Griffin led their teams to division titles a year ago, however 2013 has proven to be a lot different as these two quarterbacks will now try to avoid having their teams lose three straight.

San Francisco (6-4) were strong favorites to return to the Super Bowl this year, but now find themselves 2½ games behind the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West and will likely need a strong finish in their last six games to earn a wild-card spot.

I think we are (surprised) but we still have six more to go,” Kaepernick said. “And we can still finish this season 12-4.”
Kaepernick is ranked 31st in completion percentage at 56.2 with only 11 touchdown passes.

Griffin has completed 59.7 percent of his passes with 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions as his Washington Redskins (3-7) are in last place in a bad NFC East.

The two quarterbacks share similar numbers as well with passing ratings and rushing yards… Griffin at 83.6 with 345 yards on the ground (third among QB’s) and Kaepernick at 81.8 with 335, good for fourth.

Kaepernick does have three rushing touchdowns to RG3’s zero.

As explosive as Griffin was last year, let’s remember he is coming off reconstructive knee surgery.

If your talking about Robert or a guy like Kaepernick, everybody comes from different systems and when you go to the National Football League and you’re working with a drop-back passing game and you’ve haven’t done a lot of that, it takes some repetition,” Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said. ‘Whoever has been in those shoes realizes that it doesn’t happen overnight.”

Kaepernick’s passing game as really suffered this year where he has only 24 pass plays for 20 yards or more… third-worst total in the league.

But with the possibility of receiver Michael Crabtree making his season debut, that may help the 49ers offense stretch the field.

We’ll see,” coach Jim Harbaugh said. “I think he’s close.”

Robert Griffin’s leadership has come under fire following last weeks 24-16 loss at Philadelphia in which his attempt to rally Washington from a 24-point deficit ended with an interception. Following the loss, his initial comments didn’t set to well as he seemed to excuse himself from all blame, then clarified himself on Wednesday.

I feel like for myself, moving forward, I have to be more wary of the hostility,” Griffin said. “I was trying to give a compliment to Philadelphia’s defense and it was taken as shot against my coaches. It wasn’t.”

The oddsmakers have seemed to lost faith in the Redskins this year, where despite them being at home have made the 49ers a (minus) -5.5 point favorite going into Monday night. But as always, continue to check the latest spreads here at Wonder Punter leading up ‘til game time.

Washington is headed for it’s third last-place finish in four seasons under Mike Shanahan, who defended the direction of the franchise.
In the future it will get better,” Shanahan said. “because we do have the ability to get more depth, we’ve got the ability to add some players on both sides of the football, and that gives you a chance to get better as a football team.”

It may come down to the better running game on Monday night where both teams do well running the ball.. Washington at 155.2 yards per game (first in the NFL) and San Francisco fifth at 141.0.

I predict the 49ers will play with more of a sense of urgency as they realize they have the wild-card spot within their reach if they can get it turned around.

PICK: San Francisco

Redskins: RG III a leader, team still united

Accountability For RG III

ASHBURN, Va. – The Washington Redskins say their locker room is not coming aside, whilst their season continues to plummet and gamers are occurring native radio stations questioning the quarterback’s postgame feedback.

On Tuesday, receiver Santana Moss said on 106.7 The Fan’s “LaVar & Dukes Show” that Robert Griffin III wanted to only accept the blame for a botched final play moderately than attempt to clarify what happened. On Wednesday, Moss attempted to clarify what he meant. He additionally said he spoke with Griffin earlier within the day and that the 2 are “cool.”

“That is the type of relationship we’ve,” Moss stated. “We are able to speak and get to know or to specific what was actually mentioned. That’s what we have on this locker room. We don’t have no divided locker room in any respect.”

And, players said, Griffin is unquestionably a pacesetter on the team, a degree many made each on and off the report. However Moss’ feedback triggered a firestorm as a result of he spoke at size in regards to the scenario.

Griffin tossed an interception that ended the Redskins’ 24-sixteen loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday – a play through which he tried to throw the ball away to the back of the end zone while backpedaling near the 30-yard line.

Griffin took awhile in his postgame news convention earlier than he finally stated, “It’s one thing I shouldn’t do.”

That led to Moss answering the query and saying the quarterback sometimes should just say it’s his fault.

Griffin on Wednesday stated that everybody is “on the same web page.” He additionally took unequivocal blame for the interception.

And Moss said he was trying to send a message to each participant and never just Griffin.

Robert Griffin III

Robert Griffin III is definitely a pacesetter on the Redskins, several players maintained Wednesday.

“What I used to be saying [was], for those who’re ever put in a state of affairs – anybody – that is how we can management it so there is no such thing as a confusion,” Moss stated. “As a result of if you nip it in the bud, then you do not have to worry about that story being turned elsewhere. You’re a stand-up guy. That’s how it may be portrayed, whether or not you realize you probably did one thing mistaken or not. ‘I like that dude for what he mentioned as a result of he took it on the chin.’ That is all it’s a must to do.

“If I’m a quarterback or I am a frontrunner and I drop a ball, then it is me. No matter the way it came or what the other man did, it’s me. At the time [Tuesday] I used to be picturing myself being the quarterback and what I may tell you.. is that, at the finish of the day, I am the final guy that has to make the play to win it or we cannot. If we won, I am going to say we did an amazing job. If we didn’t, I am gonna say I’ve to do a greater job.”

The feedback led to questions on Griffin’s management as well as about whether or not they were indicators of a divided locker room.

Fullback Darrel Young mentioned Moss’ feedback were taken out of context and agreed with Moss that the veteran receiver was difficult everybody and not just Griffin.

“Robert Griffin’s a leader of this staff, and I don’t care what anybody says,” Young said. “I will battle with him any day and I do know [everybody] in this locker room goes to battle with him… He holds himself accountable to us. To you guys, it doesn’t matter what he thinks. It is the fifty three individuals on this locker room that really ride his again. He is been the man since he is been right here. We knew that.

“It is the only thing to talk about as a result of we’re 3-7, however there is not any controversy. This will likely be behind us as soon as we get a win.”

Griffin also said on Sunday that the Eagles’ defense stymied the Redskins because it could match them “tit for tat,” and that the Redskins wanted to counteract higher.

Still only 23, Griffin perhaps has but to fully respect how a lot his words are parsed and dissected. It is why gamers sometimes really feel it is better to say “I” or “me” when discussing bad performs or video games.

“We all want to try this, whether it’s on you or not,” linebacker London Fletcher stated. “It makes everyone else feel higher.”

However Fletcher stated the scenario shouldn’t be seen as signs of a locker room starting to spiral downward.

“I’ve been on teams the place the minute something goes unsuitable, guys begin finger-pointing and the offense is blaming the defense and the defense is blaming the offense,” Fletcher mentioned. “We do not have that kind of workforce. Now we have a bunch of fellows that basically have a look at themselves and say, ‘I ought to have did this better.’ We have coaches that rise up and say, ‘That was on me.’ We now have lots of people which might be accountable.”

After Sunday’s loss, Fletcher raved about Griffin’s leadership, which was questioned by former longtime Redskins cornerback and Corridor of Famer Darrell Green last week, and he echoed his sentiments Wednesday.

“Robert is a superb leader,” Fletcher mentioned. “This is a younger man who was voted captain as a rookie; that does not occur typically. It is voted by his friends, his teammates. Meaning one thing. We know the great management qualities he has.

“I’ve never seen a young player are available in, maybe [Brian Orakpo], who has the maturity and leadership. Robert is doing things the right way. As you develop on this enterprise, you achieve extra experience and also you learn as you go.”

Redskins’ Moss to RG III: Take some blame

Inexperienced Questions RG III’s Management

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has taken quite a lot of hits this season, but the newest comes from an unexpected place – his own huddle.

On Tuesday, veteran Redskins extensive receiver Santana Moss went on 106.7 The Fan in D.C., and stated that when things go wrong, gamers must take extra private accountability – particularly Washington’s franchise quarterback.

Moss If we’re going to win games, we have to win games with our man saying, ‘At the finish of the day, I did not make a play,’ no matter if it wasn’t him.

- Santana Moss

“If we will win games, we have to win video games with our guy saying, ‘On the finish of the day, I did not make a play,’ regardless of if it wasn’t him,” Moss said on the “LaVar and Dukes” present. “And that’s how I really feel. Because that is what we’re on the market to do.”

Moss’ feedback come after Griffin seemed to take his personal sly shot at the failings of the Redskins that resulted in an interception on the workforce’s ultimate play in Sunday’s 24-16 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

“We had a certain idea with running and no one bought open so I used to be backing up, and within the scenario where you get a sack there, it ends the game,” Griffin said Sunday of the staff’s last play. “I used to be trying to throw the ball to the back of the top zone. It didn’t get to where I wished it to go.”

Griffin’s desperation heave ended up in the arms of defensive back Brandon Boykin, and Eagles quarterback Nick Foles took a knee to end the game.

The loss dropped the Redskins, the defending NFC East champions, to three-7.

“As a leader, you understand that should you’re concerned in the situation, whether you’re the receiver, the quarterback, the fellows making the tackle, whoever – regardless of the end result, good or dangerous, you have to in some unspecified time in the future, get up and say me or I,” Moss stated.

Moss drove his level residence even further.

“I don’t need to be going back and forth within the media about who did not do this and who didn’t do what,” Moss mentioned. “On the end of the day, I was seen with the ball in my hand last, as a quarterback I’m saying, and if it didn’t get finished then I will let you realize it was me. Whether it was me or not. It was me. And I’ll get higher. And we’ll get higher collectively.”

Griffin, Moss and the final-place Redskins will look to shed their two-game shedding streak once they host the San Francisco 49ers on ESPN’s “Monday Evening Football.”

1 Denver Broncos (9-1 LW: 2)- Round 1 goes to the Broncos… rematch with KC in two weeks.

2 Seattle Seahawks (10-1 LW: 3) Other then a home game against the Saints, they should be able to run the table the rest of the way.

4 Carolina Panthers (7-3 LW: 6)- Beating quality teams now and only getting better.

6 New England Patriots (7-3 LW: 5)- Patriots are still looking for the flag… they got earlier in the year against the Saints. So…

7 Indianapolis Colts (7-3 LW: 7)- Good comeback win at Tennessee, but I still think Rams game.

11 Chicago Bears (6-4 LW: 12)- Big home win over the Ravens.. which Rams team will they face on Sunday?

13 New York Jets (5-5 LW: 13)- Jekyll and Hyde if you ask me… we just don’t know what team will show up on Sundays.

14 Arizona Cardinals (6-4 LW: 16)- Winning games despite no running game and a QB who’s thrown more INTs then TDs.

15 Miami Dolphins (5-5 LW: 21)- Gritty performance and win against San Diego with all the distractions staring at them.

16 San Diego Chargers (4-6 LW: 17)- If they could just finish games… but now they still have three games left against the Chiefs and Broncos.

18 Green Bay Packers (5-5 LW: 14)- No Aaron Rodgers…. No hope!

19 Pittsburgh Steelers (4-6 LW: 25)- Is this the same Steelers team who we all left for dead earlier? Held the Lions scoreless in the second half.

20 Cleveland Browns (4-6 LW: 18)- Big home game on Sunday against the Steelers. If they win… maybe still a chance?

21 Buffalo Bills (4-7 LW: 27)- Winnable games coming up against the Bucs, Falcons, Jags and Dolphins… Wildcard? hmmm maybe.

22 Baltimore Ravens (4-6 LW: 19)- Failing to score on first-and-goal at the Chicago 5-yard line. Story of the year for the offense.

23 St Louis Rams (4-6 LW 20)- In a division with Seattle and San Francisco… it’s tough.

24 New York Giants (4-6 LW: 26)- Four wins in a row now with Dallas coming up.

25 Oakland Raiders (4-6 LW: 24)- Is Matt McGloin the answer at quarterback?

26 Tennessee Titans (4-6 LW: 22)- How big do the losses to the Jags and Colts look now in an AFC race that’s up for grabs.

27 Washington Redskins (3-7 LW: 23)- So much for running the tables like last year.

28 Houston Texans (2-8 LW: 28)- Still playing hard… that’s all you could ask for at this point.

29 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-8 LW: 31) Two in a row… and they had some winnable games throughout the season.

30. Atlanta Falcons (2-8 LW: 29)- Unlike the Texans, this is a football that has quit on everybody. Embarrassing!

31 Minnesota Vikings (2-8 LW: 30)- Playing for a quarterback in next year’s draft.

32 Jacksonville Jaguars (1-9 LW 32)- It was fun while it lasted.

Eagles hold off Redskins to claim first place

Eagles Dangle On To Declare First Place

PHILADELPHIA – For the Philadelphia Eagles to go worst-to-first in the NFC East, they had to win at dwelling.

Bye-bye, shedding streak.

Nick Foles threw for 298 yards and spun free for a touchdown, LeSean McCoy ran for two scores and the Eagles snapped a 10-sport dropping skid at Lincoln Financial Area with a 24-sixteen victory over the Washington Redskins on Sunday.

A year after ending four-12 beneath Andy Reid, Chip Kelly had guided his Eagles (6-5) to the division lead. They’re a half-sport ahead of idle Dallas (5-5).

The defending division champion Redskins rallied in the fourth quarter but fell quick, dropping to 3-7.

“I do not take a look at it globally,” Kelly said. “We have five video games in December and we put ourselves in place where these games are meaningful. We’ll see where we’re at Dec. 29.”

The Eagles hadn’t received at dwelling in 413 days since defeating the New York Giants on Sept. 30, 2012. They’re going to enter their bye week on a 3-recreation successful streak, having turned things around after consecutive house losses final month.

“Not one particular person on this group was defeated,” Foles stated. “All people in our locker room believed we can win and if you feel that manner, it’s something special. Now we have to keep the momentum going.”

Down 24-zero in the fourth quarter, the Redskins rallied behind Robert Griffin III’s TD passes of 62 yards to Darrel Young and 41 yards to Aldrick Robinson and each 2-point conversions.

RG3 then drove the Redskins to the Eagles 18 earlier than his pass off his back foot was intercepted by Brandon Boykin in the long run zone.

“I was trying to throw the ball at the back of the top zone,” he mentioned. “It did not get to the place I wished it to go. Clearly I was on my heels. Something I can positively learn from.”

Foles did not throw any TD passes after tossing 10 previously two video games. But he still hasn’t thrown an interception this year, extending his streak to 199 passes with out a pick. Foles tied an NFL document with seven TD passes in a win at Oakland two weeks ago and adopted it with three more in a victory at Green Bay.

McCoy finished with 77 yards speeding and seventy three receiving. He leads the NFL with 1,009 yards on the bottom. Foles had a profession-finest 47 yards rushing.

“We’re all enjoying as one,” McCoy stated. “Earlier within the 12 months, the offense was enjoying good and protection wasn’t or defense was taking part in good and offense wasn’t. Now we’re clicking.

The Redskins started their last drive at their 4 with three:26 left after a 70-yard punt by Donnie Jones. Griffin accomplished a 28-yard go to Santana Moss on third-and-25 and Washington finally moved to the 18 earlier than the pick.

Griffin was 17 of 35 for 264 yards and ran for forty four yards.

“Took us till the fourth quarter to make a couple plays,” Redskins coach Mike Shanahan stated. “We had our opportunity on the end. Just could not take advantage of it.”

A 33-27 win at Washington in the season opener kick-began the Kelly Period and raised expectations in what was imagined to be a rebuilding 12 months. The Eagles lost the next three video games earlier than winning 5 of seven. Foles replaced an injured Michael Vick in the first half of a victory on the Giants on Oct. 6, and has led the Eagles to a 4-1 document since.

The Redskins could not generate a lot offense till Griffin connected with Younger after scrambling early in the fourth quarter. He hit Nick Williams on the conversion.

Robinson made a nice adjustment to catch Griffin’s underthrown deep go for the subsequent score, and RG3 dived in from the 2 for the conversion.

But Washington couldn’t full the comeback.

Foles ran in from the 4 for a 7-zero lead, even showing some athleticism with a spin transfer after getting hit at the 2 after which reaching for the top zone. A 49-yard go to McCoy set up the rating.

One play after Brent Celek turned a decent-end display cross into a forty two-yard gain, McCoy ran in untouched from the 1.

The Redskins drove to the Eagles eight before Griffin was sacked by Connor Barwin and fumbled. The ball popped straight up and was recovered by Fletcher Cox.

The Eagles turned that right into a 24-yard discipline aim by Alex Henery to make it 17-0.

McCoy left briefly after injuring his right hamstring within the second quarter and scored on a 1-yard run to place the Eagles up 24-0 in the third.

NFL Predictions Week 11 Preview and Picks

Free NFL Picks and predictions for Week 11

NFL Week 11 is going to be another great week of NFL games with the four big ones in my opinion being Cleveland @ Cincinnati, San Francisco @ New Orleans, Kansas City @ Denver (Sunday night) and New England @ Carolina (Monday night). Here is my quick preview for each game along with the spread and my pick/prediction for each match-up. Remember, you can check the latest lines and place your favorite bet(s) right here through Wonder Punter. Good Luck!

New York Jets (5-4) @ Buffalo Bills (3-7) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: Even

Over/Under: 40.5

With the Jets coming off their bye week, I have to think they will play the better game and expected a little from the Bills to this point. If Geno Smith is on…

Baltimore Ravens (4-5) @ Chicago Bears (5-4) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: CHI -3.0

Over/Under: 45.0

The Ravens are coming off a big home win last Sunday against a Cincinnati team without much offensive production. The Bears will be without Jay Cutler. Still like the Bears in this one being at home.

PICK: Chicago

Cleveland Browns (4-5) @ Cincinnati Bengals (6-4) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: CIN -6.0

Over/Under: 42.0

The Bengals have lost back-to-back games in overtime and lost the last meeting with Cleveland but will go with Cincy in this one to get it done.

PICK: Cincinnati

Washington Redskins (3-6) @ Philadelphia Eagles (5-5) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: PHI -4.5

Over/Under: 53.0

Too much at stake for the Eagles with a chance to get into sole possession of first place with a win and Nick Foles has been great the last two weeks.

PICK: Philadelphia

Detroit Lions (6-3) @ Pittsburgh Steelers (3-6) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: DET -2.5

Over/Under: 47.0

The Steelers have been playing better ball since their ‘rock bottom’ game a few weeks backs, but with a healthy Lions duo of Stafford/Johnson… I like the Lions on the road.

PICK: Detroit
Atlanta Falcons (2-7) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-8) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: EVEN

Over/Under: 43.0

The ‘experts’ have it even.. I kind of agree. With a very disappointing Falcons team this year, can the Bucs win two in a row?

PICK: Atlanta

Arizona Cardinals (5-4) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (1-8) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: ARI -8.5

Over/Under: 41.0

As long as the Cardinals don’t have a ‘let-down’ game, they should win easily.

PICK: Arizona

Oakland Raiders (3-6) @ Houston Texans (2-7) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: HOU -7.0

Over/Under: 41.5

Texans head coach Gary Kubiak is back, Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor is questionable…. seems like a Texans win to me.

PICK: Houston

San Diego Chargers (4-5) @ Miami Dolphins (4-5) 11/17- 4:05PM EST

Line: SD -1.0

Over/Under: 45.5

Always tough for a West Coast team to travel East and play but with the Dolphins in the midst of controversy… can they stay focused?

PICK: San Diego

San Francisco 49ers (6-3) @ New Orleans Saints (7-2) 11/17- 4:25PM EST

Line: NO -3.0

Over/Under: 47.5

I expect a better performance this week from the 49ers, but New Orleans is just a very good team in the Dome. Should be a good. Too much Saints.

PICK: New Orleans

Minnesota Vikings (2-7) @ Seattle Seahawks (9-1) 11/17- 4:25PM EST

Line: SEA -12.0

Over/Under: 45.5

After last week’s solid road performance, I think the Seahawks have shaken off their two-week funk with those close victories.

PICK: Seattle

Kansas City Chiefs (9-0) @ Denver Broncos (8-1) 11/17- 8:30PM EST

Line: DEN -7.5

Over/Under: 49.0

The first of two anticipated meetings is soon upon us.. can the much ‘talked-about’ Kansas City defense do enough to slow down the Broncos?

PICK: Denver

New England Patriots (7-2) @ Carolina Panthers (6-3) 11/18- 8:30PM EST

Line: CAR -2.5

Over/Under: 46.5

Monday night showdown. Tough one for me… Pats 2-2 on the road thus far but are still the Patriots and the Panthers have won five straight. If Carolina has another defensive performance like last week, I like their chances.

PICK: Carolina

Wonder Punter NFL Week 11 Power Rankings

NFL Power rankings for week 11 2013

With a 10 full weeks of NFL games in the books, let’s take a look at our new NFL Power Rankings for Week 11 which will begin on Thursday. The Indianapolis Colts who were a constant top 5 teams in our rankings took a hit with their bad loss at the hands of the Rams, as did some other teams after Sunday and Monday night’s game. The Carolina Panthers made the biggest jump with their impressive defensive performances win at San Francisco. And Tampa Bay and Jacksonville are in the win column… finally.

1 Kansas City Chiefs (9-0)- Even with the bye week, I will keep them in No. 1 spot, however they will be challenged in the next two of three weeks with the Denver Broncos on the bill.

2 Denver Broncos (8-1)- Denver’s next three games…. KC, at New England, at KC. Things are about to get interesting in the AFC.

3 Seattle Seahawks (9-1)- Seattle put together a full road game against the Falcons on Sunday and dominated them. Much more impressive win.

4 New Orleans Saints (7-2)- World beaters at home… except in the NFL you only get to play half at home during the regular season.

5 New England Patriots (7-2)- Coming off their bye week, they will have a great road test at Carolina on Monday night.

6 Carolina Panthers (6-3)- One quality victory down with a road win at San Fran., can they duplicate another at home against the Patriots on Monday night?

7 Indianapolis Colts (6-3)- I don’t think anyone is sure what happened to them on Sunday’s ugly home loss to the Rams…. They couldn’t have been looking ahead to the Titans, could they have?

8 San Francisco (6-3)- A bounce here, a bounce there, who knows… but teams 6 and 7 beat them at Candlestick.

9 Detroit Lions (6-3)- Big road win at Soldier Field to take over sole possession over first place in the NFC North.

10 Cincinnati Bengals (6-4)- Back-to-back road losses at Miami then Baltimore.. lose to Cleveland on Sunday and they may have a problem.

11 New York Jets (5-4)- Coming off their bye week with winnable game at Buffalo on Sunday.

12 Chicago Bears (5-4)- Can Josh McCown hold it together ‘til Cutler makes it back… whenever that is.

13 Philadelphia Eagles (5-5)- Nick Foles has had two great back-to-back games. My favorites now to win a weak NFC East.

14 Green Bay Packers (5-4)- Despite their quarterback injuries, they have a winnable game at the Giants on Sunday.

15 Dallas Cowboys (5-5)- In what was probably their ‘rock bottom’ game on Sunday, they are still in first place in the NFC.. but barely.

16 Arizona Cardinals (5-4)- Too bad they have play in the same division as the Seahawks and 49ers.

17 San Diego Chargers (4-5)- Too bad they have to play in same division as the Chiefs and Broncos.

18 Cleveland Browns (4-5)- Win at Cincinnati on Sunday and they may have a chance to win what is now a weak AFC North.

19 Baltimore Ravens (4-5)- It’s a good thing the defense showed up on Sunday against the Bengals because the offense was nowhere to be found.

20 St. Louis Rams (4-6)- The Tavon Austin show and a blowout win at Indy.

21 Miami Dolphins (4-5)- In week one following the bullying-blowup, they lose to the winless Bucs.

22 Tennessee Titans (4-5)- First they lose Jake Locker for the year, then they lose to the worst team in the league.

23 Washington Redskins (3-6)- In a weak NFC East, they show no signs of wanting it.

24 Oakland Raiders (3-6)- Have now lost 12 straight on East Coast trips and now word Terrelle Pryor may be out for awhile.

25 Pittsburgh Steelers (3-6)- What’s all this talk about trading away ‘Big Ben?’ Will that make them better… and will anybody take a banged-up quarterback?

26 New York Giants (3-6)- Must I keep talking about the NFC East anymore… they’re still in it but have some tough games coming up.

27 Buffalo Bills (3-7)- It’s all about building a foundation for 2014.

28 Houston Texans (2-7)- Still better then their record indicates.

29. Atlanta Falcons (2-7)- I used to think they were better then their record indicated.

30 Minnesota Vikings (2-7)- With Christian Ponder’s status up in the air for Sunday’s game, will we see another quarterback change for the Vikings?

31 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-8)- Guess they didn’t want to be ranked last in the league.

32 Jacksonville Jaguars (1-8)- Well for about 32 hours they were ranked 31st….

Broncos’ Manning will have MRI scan today

Thomas, Peyton Lead Broncos Past Chargers

SAN DIEGO – Denver quarterback Peyton Manning will bear an MRI on Monday after taking a number of big hits in the Broncos’ win in opposition to San Diego at Qualcomm Stadium on Sunday, including a low hit from Chargers defensive end Corey Liuget with 1:forty four to play.

“I’m pretty sore,” Manning mentioned following the 28-20 victory. “They obtained me twice in that lower area. I felt higher coming into the sport after the bye week, but I am pretty sore.”

Peyton Manning said he was “fairly sore” after taking a number of hits from the Chargers protection, together with this one low on his body near the top of the Broncos’ victory Sunday.

Manning was hit just after he threw a 7-yard completion to Demaryius Thomas for a first down within the recreation’s closing minutes. Manning stayed on the bottom following the play, and the Broncos’ trainers briefly attended to him.

Trainers shortly looked at his right ankle and Manning was flexing his right leg throughout the timeout the Broncos have been assessed following the play. The Broncos are believed to wish to have an MRI on Manning’s knee as properly.

Manning stayed in the sport and finished issues out, but he was limping slightly in the locker room afterward.

Manning wouldn’t specify what he injured, saying, “Lower body, [I] really feel like the injury report could be very revealing to the opponent in addition to the parents in Vegas, so I assume someplace in that lower physique.”

Manning was then asked if the damage was one thing he must take care of for the remainder of the season.

“I hope not, I would like to have the ability to shake it,” he said.

Manning who spoke to the workforce’s medical employees as quickly as he entered the locker room after the game, said the doctors informed him he can have the MRI on Monday morning. The Broncos are scheduled to have their normal meetings, but won’t have their first on-subject apply of the week till Wednesday.

“It is just what the docs said, and I had one a couple weeks in the past,” Manning stated. “And so took a couple hits right this moment, so simply sort of replace to see what it says. Hopefully it’s no change.”

Liuget stated it wasn’t an intentional hit.

“I used to be attempting to get to him as a result of I knew how important it might be to us as a protection to get to him,” he mentioned. “I used to be simply working it and attempting to be the guy. I’m unsure how I caught him however I hope he’s OK. It is not anything that is going to stop him from being Peyton Manning.”

The Broncos will face the NFL’s sack leaders – the Kansas City Chiefs – next Sunday night in Denver. When asked if he would play against the Chiefs, Manning paused barely earlier than saying, “I undoubtedly plan on it.”

Main as much as the Broncos’ win over the Washington Redskins, just before Denver’s bye week, Manning missed a day of follow with two sprained ankles he suffered within the staff’s loss to Indianapolis. He then practiced for the remainder of that week and played against Washington. The Broncos then held Manning out of their two practices in the course of the bye week, however he practiced day by day this past week.

Manning finished the win against the Chargers 25-of-36 passing for 330 yards and 4 touchdowns. It was his eighth 300-yard sport of the season and his fifth recreation with no less than 4 touchdowns.

NFL Week 10 Game Recap- Carolina Stops San Francisco To Win Fifth Straight

Carolina Panthers (6-3)- 10

San Francisco 49ers (6-3)- 9

Line: SF -6.0

Over/Under: 43.0

Much hoopla was made about the Carolina Panthers winning streak with people saying they haven’t beaten a “quality” opponent during their run… well now the Panthers can put all the nay sayers to bed (at least this week) with a dominate defensive performance on the road against the reigning NFC champs San Francisco 49ers on Sunday by shutting them out in the second half and notching that “signature” win 10-9 and extending their winning streak to five games.

Colin Kaepernick had no answer against the swarming Panthers defense as he was held to only 91 yards on 11 of 22 with one interception. He was also sacked six times for a 42.0 passer rating.

Kaepernick’s interception to Drayton Florence in the final minute assured Carolina’s victory while putting an end to San Francisco’s five-game winning streak.

San Francisco now sits at 6-3… 2 ½ games out of first place in the NFC West behind Seattle (9-1).

I don’t think it really bothers us, it gives us the opportunity to step up to the challenge. We did,” said wide receiver Steve Smith. A win like this can boost us, a win like this can continue to give us life throughout the season, and make us feel like we’re working for something, and we are.”

The difference in the game for Carolina (6-3) was Graham Gano’s 53-yard field goal with 10:05 remaining in the game as the defense took over from there shutting down any 49er drive after that.

This game is a maturity jump for us, because in the past what I’ve been part of, we’ve been somewhat uncertain of how we will turn out in these types of games,” Carolina quarterback Cam Newton said. “We needed that type of game, just to be in a dog fight, in somewhat of a barnburner, to show what type of team this really is.”

Cam Newton’s numbers were only slightly better then Kaepernicks going 16 of 32 for 169 yards, an interception and four sacks for a 52.7 rating.

Not the kind of numbers you would expect from two quarterbacks who have been leading their offenses to put up some points this past month.

As the game went on, it got more and more intense,” Smith said.

The 49ers may be without the services of Vernon Davis and rookie safety Eric Reid to concussions as they get set to take on the New Orleans Saints and the Washington Redskins in back-to-back road games.

We’ll do what we do, bounce back, regroup, refit and reorganize and come back this week,” coach Jim Harbaugh said.

San Francisco did however get All-Pro linebacker Aldon Smith back, but played limited snaps after missing five games due to undergoing treatment for substance abuse.

Receiver Mario Manningham also returned to action, making his season-debut after nearly 11 months due to knee surgery. He ended the afternoon with three catches.

Not the kind of offensive performance we were expecting, but both defenses stepped up to keep it entertaining.

For the most part, I don’t really think they did anything that necessarily confused us, 49ers center Jonathan Goodwin said. “They only gave up nine points. It’s hard not to give them credit. We expected it to be a physical game. Did we expect to score only nine points? Nah.”

This one really did come down to the way the defense played,” Panthers coach Ron Rivera said. “Any time you put yourself in a position where you can force the other team to kick field goals, you get a chance to win.”

And that they did and with the win as Carolina now sits one game back in the NFC South behind New Orleans (7-2).

Jury convicts man in killing of Redskins’ Taylor (Yahoo Sports)

MIAMI (AP) – A jury has convicted a man of second-degree murder in the in the killing of Washington Redskins star Sean Taylor, who was shot outside his bedroom after witnesses said he confronted a group of young men who broke into his home.

The jury deliberated about 16 hours over four days before returning the verdict Monday in the trial of 23-year-old Eric Rivera Jr., who admitted in a videotaped confession to police days after Taylor’s death that he fired the fatal shot after kicking in the bedroom door. But at the trial, he said on the witness stand that his confession was given only under police pressure and amid purported threats to his family.

Rivera sat quietly at the defense table with his lawyers after the verdict was announced, showing no reaction or emotion. The courtroom was packed with Taylor and Rivera family members – and about two dozen security personnel – but there were no outbursts.

Rivera was also convicted of armed burglary. Although Rivera did not get the maximum first-degree murder conviction, he still faces a potential life prison sentence. Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Dennis Murphy did not immediately set a sentencing date but will hold a related hearing Dec. 10.

Neither prosecutors, Taylor’s family nor the family of the football player’s girlfriend would comment afterward. Rivera’s parents, sisters, lawyers and friends also left without comment, as did the 12 jurors.

In the confession, Rivera said the group of five young men, all from the Fort Myers area, drove to Taylor’s house planning to steal large amounts of cash he kept inside. They thought Taylor, 24, would be out of town at a game against Tampa Bay, but didn’t realize until it was too late that he was home with a knee injury. Taylor’s then-girlfriend, Jackie Garcia Haley, and their 18-month-old daughter, were also home at the time but were not hurt.

Four other men were also charged in the case and three will be tried later. Venjah Hunte, 25, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and burglary charges in a deal that calls for a 29-year prison sentence.

Testifying in his own defense, Rivera claimed it was Hunte who brought the 9mm handgun and who shot Taylor. Rivera insisted he was not told about the burglary plot until the group was driving toward Miami, and that he stayed in the car outside Taylor’s house the whole time.

The gun was never found. Police say it was stuffed in a sock and thrown into the Everglades.

Legal experts said Monday’s verdict appeared to be a compromise, with at least some jurors doubting the confession and questioning whether Rivera, who was 17 at the time, truly pulled the trigger – but not that he played a role in the burglary plot.

”They believed that he was part of the burglary and was present when it occurred,” said David S. Weinstein, a former federal prosecutor now in private practice. ”There was no eyewitness to put the gun in Rivera’s hand and that is what at least one juror needed to convict him of first-degree murder.”

Taylor, a Pro Bowl safety who had starred at the University of Miami, was shot in the upper thigh, damaging his femoral artery and causing massive blood loss. Witnesses say Taylor was shot when he confronted the group with a machete outside his bedroom. A medical examiner said he was essentially dead on arrival at a hospital on Nov. 26, 2007, although doctors did manage to restart his heart for a while.

Aside from Rivera’s confession, police found shoe prints outside Taylor’s home that matched sneakers some in the group were wearing that night. Witnesses testified Rivera was seen driving a rented black Toyota Highlander believed used in the crime, and another witness said the group of five had burglary tools when they came to her house after Taylor was shot.

Taylor, a first-round Redskins draft pick in 2004, signed an $18 million contract with the team and was becoming one of the NFL’s top defensive players when he was slain. Several witnesses, including Garcia Haley, testified that he liked to keep large amounts of cash around his Miami house.

One of the men charged in the slaying, 25-year-old Jason Mitchell, attended a birthday party a few weeks earlier at the house for Taylor’s half-sister, Sasha Johnson – who lived in Fort Myers and knew Rivera. She testified that Taylor gave her a purse containing $10,000 in cash at the party, which was witnessed by all the guests.

That event put the wheels in motion for the burglary plot, witnesses said. Rivera himself testified that some in the group thought they would get between $100,000 and $200,000 to split up.

Also charged and awaiting trial are Mitchell, Charles Wardlow, 24, and 22-year-old Timothy Brown.

Cutler uncertain if he’ll play against Lions

Bears Wrap: McCown Guides Offense

Jeff Dickerson and Michael Wright recap the Bears’ 27-20 win over the Packers.

Bears Wrap: McCown Guides Offense

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler indicated Tuesday that his return for Sunday’s sport against the Detroit Lions isn’t a certainty as he continues to go through the rehabilitation course of from a torn groin muscle.

Injured on Oct. 20 against the Washington Redskins, Cutler stated he had hoped to be back for Monday night’s game towards the Green Bay Packers. Although he’s utilized unconventional methods to speed up the restoration, corresponding to platelet wealthy plasma treatments, an ARP machine and a strict diet, the quarterback mentioned he does not have a say on how soon he returns.

Team docs advised Cutler, coach Marc Trestman and common manager Phil Emery that the timetable for restoration is a minimal of 4 weeks.

“I was aiming for the Green Bay recreation, and that didn’t occur. So I don’t suppose we can say I will be on the market for the Detroit game,” Cutler stated Tuesday on ESPN a thousand’s “The Jay Cutler Show.”

“We’re making an attempt everything we will to get on the market. It feels good, but I have never practiced. I have not been in a live scenario and executed all the cuts and the drops and noticed how it felt but. So can’t inform you. I want I may. I wish I may say, ‘Yeah, we’ll be on the market.’

“However I think the way in which that [backup] Josh [McCown] is playing, we be ok with that and we do not want to get into the state of affairs where I am on the market and I get back every week too soon and I’m set again one other 4 to 6 weeks. So I’m just gonna be good with it.”

Regardless of the four-week minimum prognosis for Cutler’s recovery, the quarterback final week said his aim was to return sooner.

Filling in for Cutler on his radio weekly radio show last week, receiver Brandon Marshall mentioned that in a “worst-case state of affairs,” the quarterback would return for Sunday’s sport.

When the Bears (5-three) host the Lions (5-3) on Sunday, 21 days may have handed since Cutler sustained the harm.

Cutler stated the therapeutic process has moved alongside shortly because “I’ve simply done plenty of rehab,” and that the original 4-week minimum prognosis concerned the recovery timeframe for somebody that “sort of let it heal itself and [took] it straightforward,” versus the aggressive strategy he is taken.

“We have carried out some stuff that isn’t simply straight ice and [muscle] stim[ulation]. There’s an ARP machine there. We did PRP. We’ve achieved loads of various things,” Cutler said. “The trainers, the Bears have executed an ideal job, Bobby [Slater, the assistant head athletic coach and director of rehabilitation] and those guys, of serving to me get again.

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler

Bears quarterback Jay Cutler has been out since tearing a groin muscle at Washington in Week 7.

“We have kind of attacked this factor head on, thrown a variety of completely different methods at it, and simply tried to keep the blood flowing there.”

An ARP machine (Accelerated Restoration Efficiency) is a unit that helps heal tender-tissue accidents quickly by sending a direct present to an injured space, along with a background current that the machine’s creators consider allows for deeper penetration. PRP therapies contain the injection of a patient’s own platelets into the injured space. The platelets are reported to have development components that help in therapeutic.”

Bears operating back Matt Forte has additionally utilized an ARP machine and PRP treatments prior to now to hurry up the healing process.

Cutler has also restricted his eating regimen in his bid to return to the sphere.

“Simply keeping your sugar levels, try to maintain them as stage as attainable,” Cutler said. “It is onerous in your physique trying to heal an damage and likewise break down quite a few quantities of carbs that we eat and all kinds of different stuff.”

But Cutler could not put a percentage on the place he is at in rehabilitation. Requested if he was seventy five p.c healthy, Cutler mentioned, “I don’t know.”

“We haven’t finished football-particular stuff to essentially inform me where I’m at. I have not pushed that button and said, ‘Hey, let’s go do a bunch of drops. Let’s roll out. Let’s throw and see the place we’re at,'” Cutler said. “I can do some lunges and stuff for you. But that’s not gonna inform me [I] can get out of the way of a defensive lineman.

“We’ve a walkthrough tomorrow. We’re working towards Thursday. Hopefully we’ll see if we are able to do some stuff out there. If not, we’re in additional than capable palms [with McCown]. I think Chicago would agree.”

But even if Cutler wished to play Sunday, the choice won’t be in his arms.

“I’m not gonna just stroll within the building and be like, ‘Hey, I’m able to go,'” Cutler mentioned. “Doctors have got to OKAY it. I’ve got to prove to them that I can protect myself on the market, [that I] can do the whole lot that we need to do at the quarterback position. We’ve nonetheless obtained some hurdles to go through.”

Cutler acknowledged that the waiting is difficult, but he believes in McCown’s ability to get the job performed during his absence.

In somewhat more than six quarters during the last two games, McCown has completed 36 of sixty one passes for 476 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions whereas generating passer rankings of 119.6 and 90.7 over the previous two video games.

“I want to be on the market. I wanted to be on the market Monday night time. It is just arduous seeing how much time and effort the rest of the fellows within the offense and the rest of the fellows on the group put in and not having the ability to assist and do my part. NFL Power Rankings – Week 10

Power Rankings for the NFL week 10 – WonderPunter

With 9 weeks of the NFL season in the books, let’s take a look at Week 10’s Power Rankings where a few teams made some jumps and others went backwards after this past weekend’s games.

1. Kansas City Chiefs (9-0)- As much as I still think they are not deserving of the top ranking.. they are still the only undefeated team. Bye week then a showdown with the Denver Broncos.

2. Denver Broncos (7-1)- With the bye week out of the way, can they continue to play at a high-level without head coach John Fox on the mend for possibly two months for a heart attack? Chargers and Chiefs coming up.

3. Indianapolis Colts (6-2)- They have beaten some quality teams to this point, but remember no more Reggie Wayne to help the offense.

4. Seattle Seahawks (8-1)- Expected better from a team that has struggled against the Rams and Bucs for victories.

5. San Francisco 49ers (6-2)- Big home game against the surging Carolina Panthers this Sunday.

6. New Orleans Saints (6-2)- Will look to bounce back against the Cowboys after Sundays loss to the Jets.

7. New England Patriots (7-2)- They head into the bye week after an impressive blowout win over the Steelers 55-31.

8. Cincinnati Bengals (6-3)- Can they avoid back-to-back road losses with the Ravens coming up?

9. Chicago Bears (5-3)- Big road win on Monday night in Lambeau gave them a big move up the rankings. Next up Detroit and possibly Jay Cutler returning to action.

10. Detroit Lions (5-3)- Coming off their bye week with a road game at Soldier Field.

11. Carolina Panthers (5-3)- All their wins have been against bad teams, now they visit the Niners on Sunday to prove their worth.

12. Green Bay Packers (5-3)- Dropped from last week and now with Aaron Rodgers out of action, they may continue to fall.

13. Dallas Cowboys (5-4)- Still middle of the road for me but they are in first place in a weak NFC East. Will be tested against the Saints on Sunday night.

14. New York Jets (5-4)- Good home win against a good Saints team leading into the bye week.

15. San Diego Chargers (4-4)- Another fourth quarter loss last week, now next up is the Denver Broncos.

16. Tennessee Titans (4-4)- I still like this football team and have the hapless Jags coming into town.

17. Miami Dolphins (4-4)- Can they overcome all the bad press this week and beat a winless Bucs team on Monday night?

18. Cleveland Browns (4-5)- Is Jason Campbell the answer to Hoyle?

19. Arizona Cardinals (4-4)- Next up is the Texans as they look to go above .500, unfortunately they have the 49ers and Seahawks to contend with in their division.

20. Philadelphia Eagles (4-5)- Back-up quarterback Nick Foles completely embarrassed the Raiders with seven touchdown passes, yet Vick may still get his job back when healthy.

21. Baltimore Ravens (4-4)- Offense must improve if they want to contend.

22. Washington Redskins (3-5)- With Minnesota coming up Thursday night, now is the chance to string some wins together in the winnable NFC East.

23. Buffalo Bills (3-6)- Tough road loss to the unbeaten Chiefs, but still like the direction they are going.

24. Oakland Raiders (3-5)- Horrible defensive performance against the Eagles. Next up is the lowly Giants, but it’s always tough for west coast teams to head east and win.

25. Houston Texans (2-6)- Defense is still there and had the Colts beat, but losing their coach proved too tough to overcome.

26. Atlanta Falcons (2-6)- Season is over and people are wondering why future Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez wasn’t traded to a team with a chance to win it all?

27. St. Louis Rams (3-6)- Playing with a back up QB and heading into Indianapolis on Sunday.

28. Pittsburgh Steelers (2-6)- Was Sundays blowout loss to the Patriots 55-31 their rock bottom? The worst we’ve seen in years!

29. New York Giants (2-6)- They have a very beatable Oakland team coming into town on Sunday.

30. Minnesota Vikings (1-7)- I guess the Josh Freeman quarterback of our future experiment is over after one game.

31. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-8)- Gave Seattle all they could handle and showed some pride before falling in OT.

32. Jacksonville Jaguars (0-8)- What hasn’t been said already? Next up at Tennessee.

Free NFL Pick for Thursday 7th November Game Redskins vs Vikings

Washington Redskins (3-5) @ Minnesota Vikings (1-7) 11/07- 8:25PM

Line: WSH -1.0

Over/Under: 49.5

With the kind of season the Minnesota Vikings are going through… this just may be what the doctor ordered as the 3-5 Washington Redskins look to win back-to-back games for the first time all season and get themselves back into the race in a weak NFC East division.

The Redskins will be looking to second-year quarterback Robert Griffin III to bring more consistency on the offensive side of the ball and begin to make a run in their division where despite their record are only 1.5 games behind the Dallas Cowboys for first-place and second-place Philadelphia (4-5).

This time last year is when the Redskins ran off seven straight wins to win the division title for the first time in 13 years.

The fans want to have something to believe in, and the players want to have something to believe in,’ Griffin said. “And because of the way our division is set up right now, we have something to believe in and we know we can control our own destiny.”

The Redskins have to be feeling good about making a run after the way they played against San Diego with the defense stepping up to stop the Chargers on three straight tries inside the one-yard line and hold them for a tie before winning the game.

The way we won the game, that can be turning point for us,” Griffin said.

Griffin went 12 of 17 on third down conversions against the Chargers.

Washington coach Mike Shanahan says about RG3….

The great quarterbacks are the guys that are consistent on third down. Anytime you are over 70 percent on third-down conversions your quarterback is playing extremely well.

And that’s what you’ve got to do. You’ve got to do that consistently.”

The running game for Washington has been a bright spot with Alfred Morris leading all running backs with 5.2 average per carry and fifth in the league with 686 yards rushing.

We’ve always believed in the running game.” Shanahan said.

On the Minnesota side of the ball, they are coming off a tough loss against the Cowboys and will be trying to avoid their fifth-straight defeat.

Questionable defensive play calling at the end of the game which resulted in a loss has some Viking players speaking out.

I like for them to talk to their coaches (or) myself about whatever concerns they may have and try to get those worked out,” coach Leslie Frazier said. “But I do understand their frustration and I respect their opinions.”

The frustration grows with each loss with everyone involved,” Frazier said. “We need to put some wins together starting this Thursday night.”

Quarterback Christian Ponder seems to have won the starting position for one more week after last weeks performance (25/37 for 236 yards 2 TDs), but must improve in the interception department where he threw his sixth INT in five starts.

With the odds makers having the visiting Redskins favored at a -1.0 and an O/U at 49.5 on the betting lines… it will be a safer pick with the over/under as both defenses have their share of problems stopping anyone.

The Redskins rank 30th in total defense (398.8) yards per game and 31st in points allowed 31.6.

Oneida Nation meets with NFL about Redskins

Representatives of the Oneida Indian Nation on Wednesday asked NFL executives to sanction Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder for conduct detrimental to the league for continuing to make use of a staff nickname and mascot that “promote a dictionary-defined racial slur.”

Within the ninety-minute assembly between Oneida Nation representatives and three senior league executives in New York City, the officers additionally asked for all staff homeowners to meet with Oneida leaders the week of Super Bowl XLVIII. And so they asked that Snyder and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who was touring Wednesday and did not attend the meeting, visit Oneida Nation homelands in upstate New York.

However the Oneida representatives left disillusioned, saying after the meeting with senior NFL executives Jeff Pash, Adolpho Birch and Paul Hicks that the league “defended the use of a racist name,” Oneida spokesman Joel Barkin mentioned.

“We are very disillusioned,” Barkin mentioned. “That is the beginning of a course of. It’s clear that they don’t see how this is not a unifying time period. They do not have an entire appreciation for the breadth of opposition of Native Individuals to this mascot and name.”

Wednesday’s assembly occurred one day after Goodell and Snyder met about the identical subject. In accordance with The Washington Put up, Snyder repeated to Goodell that he had no plans to vary the team’s nickname.

“We met at the request of Ray Halbritter of the Oneida Nation. We listened and respectfully discussed the views of Mr. Halbritter, Oneida Nation Wolf Clan Consultant Keller George and their colleagues, in addition to the sharply differing views of many other Native People and followers normally,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello stated. “The meeting was a part of an ongoing dialogue to facilitate listening and learning, according to the commissioner’s comments earlier this 12 months.”

It’s rare for the NFL to discuss such issues with tribal leaders directly. In 1992, NFL representatives met with tribal leaders concerning the appropriateness of the Redskins and Chiefs nicknames, but then-commissioner Paul Tagliabue said the league had no intention of pressuring the groups to change their names.

In a two-web page letter written to Goodell and turned over to league executives Wednesday, Halbritter requested executives to amend the league’s bylaws with a rule that would prohibit the NFL from naming teams with “dictionary-outlined racial slurs,” a classification that Oneida leaders say contains Redskins.

Ray HalbritterOneida Indian Nation chief Ray Halbritter is main the marketing campaign to get the Redskins to vary their nickname.

Halbritter additionally requested Goodell to open an inquiry of Snyder below section eight.13 of league bylaws, which supplies the commissioner the ability to provoke disciplinary motion in opposition to any owner who’s “guilty of conduct detrimental to the welfare of the league or professional soccer.”

“As Commissioner,” Halbritter wrote to Goodell, “you’ve exercised your authority to act pursuant to this provision underneath circumstances that are far much less egregious than the use of a racial epithet as a group’s identify, together with imposition of sanctions for salary cap violations, prohibitions of on-area celebrations that do not replicate nicely on the sport and punishing off-subject misconduct by workforce officers.”

Regardless of increased calls by groups and journalists to change the nickname, Snyder has said repeatedly he would “by no means” change the identify. Snyder, who just lately hired lawyer and public relations advisor Lanny Davis to assist him navigate latest publicity over the issue, could not be reached for remark Wednesday. Davis additionally didn’t return requests for remark.

In the course of the meeting, Oneida representatives offered league executives with a duplicate of an Oneida-commissioned, 30-web page study that examined whether a “scientific rationale” existed for the stance that the Redskins’ staff mascot harms Native Americans. The conclusion is that it does. In response to the examine:

• The Redskins contribute to “prejudice and discrimination” towards Native People by utilizing the workforce name and mascot, which might be thought of harassment or bullying in a workplace or if used interpersonally.

• Checks have shown that the presence of Native American mascots outcomes immediately in decrease self-esteem and decrease mood within this population, as well as increased adverse associations of Native Americans among non-Native American teams. Importantly, these results happen regardless of whether or not the Native American mascot is considered “offensive.”

“Native Americans are the one group within the United States subjected to having a racial slur because the mascot of a distinguished skilled sports team,” Friedman wrote in his examine. “The Washington soccer team, whether or not it intends to do so or not, is contributing to prejudice and discrimination against Native People by persisting in utilizing the ‘R-word.’ With the help of the Nationwide Soccer League’s $9 billion a 12 months international marketing machine, this behavior not solely repeatedly exposes Native Individuals to a harmful stereotype, but also implicitly condones the use of this term by non-Native People, which if carried out on an interpersonal level would possibly constitute harassment or bullying.”

“Folks ask, ‘Why now?’ however Native Individuals have protested towards this nickname for 40 years,” Friedman mentioned in an interview. “There are 10 totally different studies showing the direct causal effects on Native People and the way it creates a racially hostile environment.”

Friedman mentioned that previously 25 years, 28 U.S. excessive faculties have dropped Redskins as a nickname.

This month, Snyder, who has owned the workforce since Could 1999, wrote an open letter to Washington followers saying that the nickname was a cherished a part of the crew’s heritage and would by no means be modified. “After 81 years,” Snyder wrote, “the team identify ‘Redskins’ continues to hold the memories and that means of where we came from, who we’re, and who we need to be in the years to return.”
