Belmont stuns No. 12 N. Carolina with late 3

Belmont Stuns No. 12 UNC

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – J.J. Mann had rehearsed hitting a sport-winning shot so many times before. When the ball got here his approach late towards No. 12 North Carolina, the senior did not squander the chance to provide Belmont a stunning street upset.

The senior hit the go-ahead three-pointer with thirteen.1 seconds left, serving to the Bruins beat the Tar Heels 83-eighty on Sunday within the Corridor of Fame Tipoff.

Mann completed with a profession-finest 28 factors, with the last basket giving the Bruins an eighty one-eighty lead. Then, after a missed shot from UNC’s J.P. Tokoto, Caleb Chowbay scored on a breakaway layup with zero.2 seconds left that sent Belmont gamers dashing onto the court docket to celebrate on the horn.

“There aren’t great victories except you beat great programs,” longtime Belmont coach Rick Byrd mentioned. “… It is a large second proper now for us.”

Certainly, especially considering it appeared the Bruins (3-1) could be left lamenting one that received away.

Belmont had pissed off North Carolina by playing with poise and knocking down exterior shots, leading by eleven points early within the second half. Then the Tar Heels (2-1) rallied and led by eight with 2½ minutes left, only to see Mann and the Bruins push again.

With the Bruins trailing by two within the last 20 seconds, Reece Chamberlain introduced the ball upcourt and flipped it to Mann, who launched the straightaway shot over Tokoto.

He said he was “about 99 p.c positive it was moving into” earlier than it dropped by way of the web.

“It is one thing you dream about as a kid, and something that you just faux this summer in the gymnasium,” Mann said. “You are saying, ‘All right, recreation winner in opposition to North Carolina, here you go.’ And then it happens. It is simply unbelievable.”

Belmont is a consistently profitable Ohio Valley Convention program with six NCAA match journeys in eight years. Now the Bruins have their first win in opposition to a High 25 opponent since beating No. 23 Missouri in December 2003.

It was North Carolina’s first nonconference dwelling loss since falling to Illinois within the ACC/Massive Ten Problem eight years in the past.

Drew Windler, who rebounded Tokoto’s late miss and threw it ahead for Chowbray’s layup, stated he had 28 congratulatory text messages and numerous different Twitter messages ready by the point he bought on the staff bus.

“It is a historical win for Belmont,” Windler mentioned. “We do not have a variety of wins over AP Prime 25 groups. So anytime you may go right into a Top 25 group’s place, particularly a place like North Carolina – storied program – and do exactly sufficient to beat a very good workforce, that is nice. That’s one thing to hang your hats on.”

Mann hit 5 three-pointers and added nine rebounds to lead the Bruins, who hit 15 of 37 3s to match their three-game season whole for made three-pointers coming in.

Windler scored sixteen factors and hit four 3s of his own for the Bruins, who shot forty five % and hit 20 of twenty-two free throws.

The free throws were a giant factor considering the Tar Heels – enjoying yet again with out leading scorer P.J. Hairston and senior guard Leslie McDonald as a result of NCAA eligibility issues – could not make their very own.

UNC shot forty eight p.c and scored 20 second-probability factors, but finished 22-for-48 (46 %) from the foul line. That included a woeful 9-for-28 within the first half as Belmont took a forty one-34 lead at the break.

“I don’t know,” sophomore Brice Johnson mentioned of the free-throw struggles. “That harm. We must always’ve made free throws… Make a minimum of 10 of these we win the sport. We just have to concentrate, simply take our time.”

North Carolina erased the deficit with a 14-0 second-half run, holding the Bruins to one discipline purpose over a ten-minute span. However after the Tar Heels had pushed ahead seventy three-sixty five on Marcus Paige’s driving basket with 3:46 left, Mann and the Bruins pushed again.

Mann knocked down a 3 to cut the deficit to 78-seventy five with 1:02 left, then followed with another eight seconds later to cut the deficit to eighty-seventy eight.

The Tar Heels had an opportunity to make it a two-possession game again, but Paige lost the ball on a dribble drive with 19.9 seconds left, resulting in a leap ball that arrange Mann’s last shot.

James Michael McAdoo scored a profession-high 27 points and had thirteen rebounds to steer the Tar Heels, while Paige completed with 17 points.

“(Byrd) is an efficient friend and a very good coach, and I am completely happy for him,” UNC coach Roy Williams stated. “However I really like these kids in my locker room and their coach let them down as we speak. That’s about it.”

NCAA Prediction College Football Week 12 Game Preview/Pick

Free picks and prediction for week 12 of the NCAA college football games

Washington Huskies (6-3) @ #13 UCLA Bruins (7-2) 11/15- 9:00PM EST

Line: UCLA -2.5

Over/Under: 60.5

On Friday night in a prime-time showdown, No. 13 UCLA will try to keep their PAC 12 South title hopes alive, as well as stay in contention for a BCS major bowl bid as they take on the Washington Huskies at the Rose Bowl.

With Bruins starting running back Jordan James still hobbled by a nagging ankle injury that has kept him out three games already, we may get to see once again Bruins’ freshman linebacker Myles Jack line up in the UCLA backfield.

Jack (just 18 years old) was heavily recruited as a running back but wanted the chance to play linebacker for the Bruins and has become solid at his position on the defensive side of the ball.

Last Saturday night he finished with eight tackles—one for loss, two pass break-ups and a fumble recovery, however it’s what he did when given the football that made heads turn.

UCLA coach Jim Mora in need of some offensive spark from the Bruins’ running back inserted Jack into the offensive scheme and he responded by running for 120 yards on just six carries.

Jack’s 66-yard touchdown scamper in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference in the Bruins 31-26 win over Arizona.

It worked, but there’s a saturation point, Mora said. “Everyone is going to want to see this and think it’s great, but what they forget is coaches are now prepared for it and they’re going to have an answer.”

Meaning of course, how many snaps Jack is involved with on Friday night is unclear.

It depends on the situation,” said Mora who’s Bruins team will be facing a Washington defense that has had no answer against the running game in their last four contests giving up an average of 209.5 yards rushing per game.

We’re not going to do something just to gimmick. Its got to have merit.” Mora also said.

If that wasn’t enough to worry about for the Huskies, they will also have to contend with way to slow down sophomore quarterback Brett Hundley who has bounced back in his last two games by completing 37 of 49 for 500 yards and four touchdowns. Against Oregon on October 26, he threw for a career-low 64 yards in their 42-14 loss.

The Bruins (7-2, 4-2 Pac 12) hope to continue their home dominance over the Huskies where they have won their last seven series meetings with them by an average of 13.9 points as they sit one game back of No. 21 Arizona State in the Pac 12 South for the division lead.

The two teams haven’t met since the Huskies’ 24-7 victory in Seattle since November 18, 2010.

Oddsmakers are expecting a close game making the Bruins a slight favorite (minus) -2.5 over the Huskies, but be sure to check the latest betting lines here at Wonder Punter up until game time.

The Huskies after a strong start to begin the season will bring a strong running game of their own powered by Bishop Sankey who is third in the nation with 145.0 yards per game.

Washington… once ranked in the top 25 lost three straight games to then No. 5 Stanford, No. 2 Oregon and Arizona State, but have won their last two over weaker California and Colorado.

Washington quarterback Keith Price will be seeking his third straight 300-yard game but will have to face a corps of Bruin linebackers regarded as one of the country’s best in the likes of…. Jack, Anthony Barr, Eric Kendricks and Jordan Zumwalt.

It’ll be a good game,” said Mora. “It’ll be exciting. They’re a good football team and there’s a lot at stake. It’ll be a fun environment in the Rose Bowl.”

Washington coach Steve Sarkisian agrees… “It’s going to be a hard-fought ballgame. That’s a good football team at UCLA. It won’t be an easy environment to play in on Friday night.”

I also expect a great game between the two schools, but with they way the Bruins play at the Rose Bowl allowing only 16.5 points this season, I predict a Bruins win.

Oregon State Beavers (6-3) @ #19 Arizona State Sun Devils (7-2) 11/16- 9:30PM EST

Line: ASU -13.0

Over/Under: 68.5

Both teams expected to light up the scoreboard on Saturday night, but ASU is playing well and is a different team at home.

PICK: Arizona State

Houston Cougars (7-2) @ #20 Louisville Cardinals (8-1) 11/16- 7:00PM EST

Line: LOU -15.5

Over/Under: 59.0

Should be another high scoring game, but too much Teddy Bridgewater in this game.

PICK: Louisville

Indiana Hoosiers (4-5) @ #22 Wisconsin Badgers (7-2) 11/16- 12:00PM EST

Line: WIS -21.0

Over/Under: 70.0

These teams like to score in bunches but the Badgers will do most of it.

PICK: Wisconsin

#23 Miami Hurricanes (7-2) @ Duke Blue Devils (7-2) 11/16- 3:30PM EST

Line: MIA -3.0

Over/Under: 61.5

Miami went from being a top 10 team to losing two straight… don’t be surprised if a good Blue Devil teams beats them.

PICK: Duke

NCAA College Football Pick – Georgia Tech vs. #8 Clemson

NCAA Prediction College Football Week 12 Thursday Game Preview & Pick- Georgia Tech vs. #8 Clemson

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (6-3) @ Clemson Tigers (8-1) 11/14- 7:30PM EST

Line: CLEM -10.5

Over/Under: 57.5

On Thursday night, the No. 8 Clemson Tigers, coming off their bye-week will look to stay on track in the BCS race against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in another Atlantic Coast Conference match-up on prime-time here is my prediction and pick for this game.

The Clemson Tigers (8-1, 6-1 ACC) hope to pick up where they left off before their week off when they defeated Virginia in a rout 59-10 on Nov. 2nd and have won their last two since their week 8 loss to No. 2 Florida State.

The guys deserve all the credit because they have gotten themselves ready and found ways to win games,” Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said. “This is the most complete game that we had. This team will be judged based on how we finish, but we had a good start to November.”

Clemson wide-out Sammy Watkins has been on fire the last two games with 22 catches for 332 yards in the last two games making quarterback Tajh Boyd’s job look easy.

When you have a guy like him with space, he’s going to have an opportunity to make plays,” Boyd said of Watkins. “Sammy did an unbelievable job. You kind of just got to throw your arm up and he will have a chance to get the ball.”

Fully verified Winning betting system, since 1999  Vip picks

The combination of Boyd and Watkins has helped the Tigers average 39.8 points a game to rank 15th in the FBS and in their last two games have out-gained Maryland and Virginia 1,150-641 in total offense.

That’s what we plan on doing, keep finishing and staying healthy,” Watkins said. “We need to go out with a bang and have fun. This is what it is all about here in November. You got to show everyone that you’re a top 10 team now and not just in September.”

With the way the Tigers have been playing since their lone defeat to Florida State, Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson knows he will have his hands full with Clemson.

It’s certainly going to be a big challenge on Thursday night,” said Johnson. “Clemson is a tough place to play and they’ve got a lot of explosive athletes. .. We look at it as an opportunity to go in and measure ourselves as a team and see if we’ve made the progress we feel we’ve made in the past couple of weeks.”

The Tigers may be going in as the favorite with a (minus) -10.5 at home, but Georgia Tech has some offensive fire-power of their own with a bruising running game that averages 311.2 yards out of the triple option.

They also have a defense that allows only 103.4 rushing yards against… good for 10th in all of college football.

The Yellow Jackets (6-3, 5-2 ACC) with a win on Thursday can clinch at least a share of the Coastal Division title but it hasn’t been easy as Georgia Tech has followed a three-game losing streak with three straight wins, outscoring opponents 112-35 in that span.

We’re a team that’s fairly physical. We run the ball pretty good an defend the run pretty good,” Johnson said. “When we do the things that we do well and take care of the ball, we could be a tough out.”

Thursday night’s game will be well played, but the spread dictates the failures of Georgia Tech to beat a Top 25 team, where they have lost seven in a row and the Tigers have beaten unranked opponents 26 consecutive times at home by an average of 23.6 points.

It seems like a safe bet on Clemson come Thursday night, but feel free to check the latest lines here at Wonder Punter up until game time.

PICK: Clemson

NCAA College Football BCS Top 25 Preview/Picks

top 25

With Week 11 of college football starting Thursday night, here is my picks along with the betting lines for each of the BCS Top 25 teams in action. Find your favorite game(s) and place your bets with us!

#1 Alabama Crimson Tide (8-0) vs. #13 LSU Tigers (7-2) 11/09- 8:00PM EST

Line: ALA -12.5

Over/Under: 55.0

Expect another classic SEC battle between two great football teams. May be closer then spread, but with the Tide at home, I like them to cover.

PICK: Alabama

#2 Florida State Seminoles (8-0) @ Wake Forest Demon Deacons (4-5) 11/09- 12:00PM EST

Line: FSU -35.0

Over/Under: 54.5

With the way the Seminoles have been playing with Heisman Trophy candidate Jameis Winston running the offense, the oddsmakers have them heavily favored to win easily on the road.

PICK: Florida State

#3 Oregon Ducks (8-0) @ #5 Stanford Cardinal (7-1) 11/07- 9:00PM EST

Line: ORE -10.5

Over/Under: 61.0

The oddsmakers have the Ducks favored big on the road against a tough Stanford defense. I’m comfortable with the Ducks covering the line but feel it may go under on the score.

PICK: Oregon

#6 Baylor Bears (7-0) vs. #10 Oklahoma Sooners (7-1) 11/07- 7:30PM EST

Line: BAY -14.5

Over/Under: 73.5

Wow 73.5 points on the over/under, Baylor can score but they haven’t been tested with a good defense yet that the Sooners bring in. Tough decision on total points. I like the spread better with Baylor to win.

#8 Missouri Tigers (8-1) @ Kentucky Wildcats (2-6) 11/09- 12:00PM EST

Line: MIZZ -14.5

Over/Under: 56.5

I like the way Missouri plays on both sides of the ball and see no problem handling the Wildcats on the road to cover.

PICK: Missouri

#9 Auburn Tigers (8-1) @ Tennessee Volunteers (4-5) 11/09- 12:00PM EST

Line: AUB -7.5

Over/Under: 55.0

I have to agree on the spread with Auburn favored in a close one. Expect the Vols to play inspired football at home.

PICK: Auburn

#11 Miami-FL Hurricanes (7-1) vs. Virginia Tech Hokies (6-3) 11/09- 7:00PM EST

Line: MIA -6.5

Over/Under: 44.0

Can the Canes bounce back after last weeks beating at Florida State? Oddsmakers think so, but not as much being that they are at home.

PICK: Miami

#14 Oklahoma State Cowboys (7-1) vs. Kansas Jayhawks (2-6) 11/09- 4:00PM EST

Line: OKST -31.0

Over/Under: 53.5

Big road win last week and it will be a big home win this week… look for the Cowboys to roll over the Jayhawks and cover on all fronts.

PICK: Oklahoma State

#15 Texas A&M Aggies (7-2) vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs (4-4) 11/09- 3:30PM EST

Line: TA&M -19.5

Over/Under: 66.5

Johnny Manziel to light it up on the Bulldogs. Safe bet on the spread.

PICK: Texas A&M

#16 Fresno State Bulldogs (8-0) @ Wyoming Cowboys (4-4) 11/09- 12:15PM EST

Line: FRES -9.5

Over/Under: 79.0

The O/U at 79.0 is so-so for my taste…. points will be scored but I feel more comfortable with the spread.

PICK: Fresno State

#19 UCLA Bruins (6-2) @ Arizona Wildcats (6-2) 11/09- 10:00PM EST

Line: UCLA -1.0

Over/Under: 56.0

This is a tough one to call for me… I like the Bruins all around, but at only with a (minus) -1.0 favorite on the road… I would tempted to bet the points better on the over.

#20 Louisville Cardinals (7-1) @ Connecticut Huskies (0-7) 11/08- 8:30PM EST

Line: LOU -27.5

Over/Under: 49.0

Louisville is a still a solid football team on both sides of the ball… Cardinals to cover on all betting lines.

PICK: Louisville

#21 Central Florida Knights (6-1) vs. Houston Cougars (7-1) 11/09- 7:00PM EST

Line: UCF -11.0

Over/Under: 64.5

Both teams can score, I like the over on 64.5.

#22 Arizona State Sun Devils (6-2) @ Utah Utes (4-4) 11/09- 4:00PM EST

Line: ASU -7.0

Over/Under: 64.0

Even though the Sun Devils go into Utah as the favorites, the Utes are a different team at home. It’s a toss-up for me on this one.

PICK: Pick-Em

#23 Notre Dame (7-2) @ Pittsburgh Panthers (4-4) 11/09- 8:00PM EST

Line: ND -4.0

Over/Under: 51.0

The Panthers will be ready for this one at home… I see a possible upset. I like the Panthers and the points.

PICK: Pittsburgh

#24 Wisconsin Badgers (6-2) vs. Brigham Young Cougars (6-2) 11/09- 3:30PM EST

Line: WIS -7.5

Over/Under: 55.5

Because it’s a Badger home game… Wisconsin to cover the (minus) -7.5

PICK: Wisconsin

#25 Texas Tech Red Raiders (7-2) vs. Kansas State Wildcats (4-4) 11/09- 12:00PM EST

Line: TTU -3.0

Over/Under: 60.0

KSU is having a down year, are on the road against a high-powered offense in Texas Tech who have lost two in a row and looking to take it out on somebody… but yet the oddsmakers have them only favored at a (minus) -3?? Give the points to KSU and take the Red Raiders.

PICK: Texas Tech

NCAA College Football Recap- #3 Florida State Spanks #7 Miami

#7 Miami Hurricanes- 14

#3 Florida St. Seminoles- 41

What was hyped as another potential “ACC Classic” battle between No. 3 Florida State and No. 7 Miami became a one-sided affair in the second half as the Seminoles blew out the Canes 41-14 to cement their position for a possible BCS Championship run.

The Seminoles (8-0, 6-0) showed their defensive might on the Canes in the second half by shutting them out and scoring 20 unanswered points to remain undefeated in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Heisman Trophy candidate Jameis Winston went 21/29 for 325 yards, one touchdown, but threw two interceptions to keep the Hurricanes (7-1, 3-1) in the game.

It’s a team that is understanding how to compete in big games and is learning to do it different ways,” Florida State Jimbo Fisher said. “We were very excited early and had to keep our emotions in check.

The second half we came out and were very physical and were able to run the football and take control. The defense was dominant. I’m just proud of the way our guys competed.

The Seminoles outgained Miami 517-275.

Just like baseball, sometimes you go out there and strike out,” said Winston. “Then you’ve got to come back and bounce back and my team really helped me through it.

I told the guys. No more turnovers and we’re going to go out there and win this game.”

We played the No. 7 team in the country and we won by 27,” Fisher said. “That’s a very good football team. “We’re just going to keep playing well and let people judge. This is a heck of a football team here.”

Miami coach Al Golden said this about the loss…

Give them credit. They made all the plays. We did not. It’s a high powered offense. They executed better than we did.”

To make matters worse.. Miami star running back Duke Johnson suffered a broken leg and is lost for the season.

Florida State has dominated three Top 25 teams they have played this season with a combined score of 155-28 and only have Florida as their only real challenge standing in their way to cap a perfect season.

Stakes will be high on Saturday afternoon when the No. 21 Michigan Wolverines clashes with No. 22 Michigan St. Spartans in a Big 10 showdown that can put the winner in the driver’s seat for the Big Ten championship.

Michigan coach Brady Hoke doesn’t want to hear any talk about a Big 10 championship just yet.

If you get ahead of yourself, you’re really going to make a mistake,” Hoke said. “Our thoughts and everything that we’re focusing on is going up to East Lansing and competing like hell with Michigan State.”

Michigan (6-1, 2-1) ranks #21 in the BCS, while Michigan St. (7-1, 4-0) ranks #22 and both looking to take control on the Legends Division in the Big 10.

We have our goals, just like everybody else,” Spartans coach Mike Dantonio said. “And among our goals is to be in that championship game and then win it.”

The Spartans lost to Wisconsin in 2011 Big 10 championship.

The road to the championship is a little easier for the Spartans if they can survive the Wolverines on Saturday with remaining games at Nebraska and Northwestern and a final home game against Minnesota.

For Michigan, it’s a little tougher challenge with the seasons final game against No. 4 Ohio St. at The Big House Nov. 30 still to come.

Anything less then a championship appearance is a disappointing season.

As a competitor, there’s no question that the goals are always high, the expectations are high.” Hoke said. “So when you don’t achieve those aspirations—which everyone in this conference has which is to win the conference—then it obviously hasn’t been the kind of year that you want.”

Michigan will be looking for redemption after getting beat 28-14 in their last trip into East Lansing in 2011 with Michigan St. having won four out-of-the last five meetings. Michigan won last year 12-10 at home.

They bullied us,” Michigan offensive tackle Taylor Lewan said. “That’s tough for me to admit because I don’t like getting bullied.”

The Wolverines admit the advantage goes to Michigan St. when it comes to defense as the Spartans have allowed only three points in it’s last two games.

They have a great defense,” Michigan offensive tackle Michael Schofield said. “It will be a great test for our offense. We could really show what our offense could do if we do well against these guys.”

Michigan has not won a Big 10 championship since 2004 and has reminded his players the stakes come Saturday.

You’d be foolish not to,” Hoke said.

The Spartans will ready to show people they are deserving of a Top 25 ranking for the first time this season.

I think our main focus is what’s going on in our conference right now and playing ourselves to the end of the regular season,” Dantonio said. “I have been on football teams that have been ranked early in the season and faded out. Been on teams that never have been ranked and ended ninth in the country.

I think you play things out to the end and you have to understand that a lot of this is motivated by votes. If you just keep winning your games, good things happen.”

The series began way back in 1898.

With Michigan being too inconsistent during the season with its play, I like the Spartans to show their defensive might and win on Saturday.

Predection for the Michigan st. Spartans vs Michigan Wolverines is … PICK: Michigan St. Spartans

NCAA Prediction College Football Preview & Pick- #6 Stanford vs. #25 Oregon St.

NCAA Prediction College Football Preview & Pick- #6 Stanford vs. #25 Oregon St.

#6 Stanford Cardinal (6-1) @ #25 Oregon St. Beavers (6-1) 10/26- 10:30PM EST

Line: STAN -3.5

Over/Under: 57.5

Stanford’s defense will be put to the test again this Saturday night as they travel into Corvallis to battle one of the nation’s most high-powered offenses, the Oregon St. Beavers, who have made their way back into the Top 25 and in the midst of their longest winning streak in nearly 13 years.

The Cardinal, one week removed from shutting down and beating another prolific offense, the UCLA Bruins 24-10.. Stanford will look to retain it’s hold in the BCS and stay in the conversation for a possible shot at a national title.

Nothing ever surprises me on that stuff,” coach David Shaw said. “I don’t know what to say about it. It’s so early. I wish they’d come out with one (poll) at the end of the season and say who’s playing. We know what it’s for. It’s for the TV shows, it’s for the rankings, it’s for the conversation, it’s for everybody that doesn’t play or coach football.”

Oregon St. (6-1, 4-0 Pac12) winners of their last six, will look to win it’s seventh-straight game since the end of the 2000 season when they won the Fiesta Bowl.

Sean Mannion leads the Beaver attack and is first in the nation with 2,992 passing yards, 29 touchdowns and only three interceptions.

His top receiver Brandin Cooks, also leads the country in receiving yards with 1,176 on 76 catches and 12 touchdowns.

Facing the Beavers however, will be a Stanford (6-1, 4-1 Pac12) passing defense that has limited their opponents to an average of 247.1 through the air and holding opponents to an average of 98.0 rushing yards over the past five games.

Stanford may be without receiver Devon Cajuste who suffered a right knee injury. It was initially feared he had torn a ligament, but x-rays came back negative.

Defensive end Henry Anderson (knee) is expected to miss his sixth-straight game.

Despite injuries on both sides on the ball, coach Shaw is confident about the depth on his football team to get the job done on a weekly basis.

That’s always been the goal in recruiting is to recruit smart, tough players and to recruit enough of them so if somebody gets hurts we can still play out style of football,” Shaw said.

Should be another great Pac12 match-up with these two schools… explosive offense versus a solid defense. Will Stanford be able to duplicate their defensive performance again, but this time on the road?

So for My NCAA Prediction and pick for this game?

Pick: Even
