An excellent chunk of the crew may be in Russia right now taking part in the Olympics but on Wednesday the Pittsburgh Penguins received some nice news back on the home front; Tomas Vokoun has been cleared to play.
The goaltender has been out the entire season after a scary state of affairs unfolded within the preseason. At a group follow, a blood clot was discovered in Vokoun's pelvis that required fast attention. He underwent surgical procedure to disolve the clot that he said saved his life just in time.
After that scary incident, it wasn't clear if Vokoun would play within the NHL once more. At 37 years of age, it might be a tricky street to come again.
While the reply is not clear but if he'll play again this season (or next), he is a minimum of medically cleared to. From right here it is just about all up to him.

Vokoun mentioned his focus now could be on observe and attempting to get himself up to health and condition so that he would possibly have the ability to play for the Penguins.
Vokoun was key for the Penguins final season, taking on the starting job within the playoffs for Marc-Andre Fleury, who was struggling within the postseason once once more. Vokoun played effectively and helped the Penguins attain the convention finals. Even with that he wasn't anticipated to be the beginning goalie for the Penguins this season but he was going to get a good load from Fleury.
Instead, the Penguins had to alter their plans and go with inexperienced Jeff Zatkoff in net behind Fleury. The rookie is 9-2-1 with a909 save percentage and 2.64 targets in opposition to common. That's definitely serviceable but less than Vokoun's919 and a pair of.forty five from last season in Pittsburgh.
Talking of the Olympics, after seeing Ondrej Pavelec towards the USA on Wednesday, surely the Czech Republic would have loved if Vokoun have been already heatlthy and taking part in too.
