Redskins: RG III a leader, team still united

Accountability For RG III

ASHBURN, Va. – The Washington Redskins say their locker room is not coming aside, whilst their season continues to plummet and gamers are occurring native radio stations questioning the quarterback’s postgame feedback.

On Tuesday, receiver Santana Moss said on 106.7 The Fan’s “LaVar & Dukes Show” that Robert Griffin III wanted to only accept the blame for a botched final play moderately than attempt to clarify what happened. On Wednesday, Moss attempted to clarify what he meant. He additionally said he spoke with Griffin earlier within the day and that the 2 are “cool.”

“That is the type of relationship we’ve,” Moss stated. “We are able to speak and get to know or to specific what was actually mentioned. That’s what we have on this locker room. We don’t have no divided locker room in any respect.”

And, players said, Griffin is unquestionably a pacesetter on the team, a degree many made each on and off the report. However Moss’ feedback triggered a firestorm as a result of he spoke at size in regards to the scenario.

Griffin tossed an interception that ended the Redskins’ 24-sixteen loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday – a play through which he tried to throw the ball away to the back of the end zone while backpedaling near the 30-yard line.

Griffin took awhile in his postgame news convention earlier than he finally stated, “It’s one thing I shouldn’t do.”

That led to Moss answering the query and saying the quarterback sometimes should just say it’s his fault.

Griffin on Wednesday stated that everybody is “on the same web page.” He additionally took unequivocal blame for the interception.

And Moss said he was trying to send a message to each participant and never just Griffin.

Robert Griffin III

Robert Griffin III is definitely a pacesetter on the Redskins, several players maintained Wednesday.

“What I used to be saying [was], for those who’re ever put in a state of affairs – anybody – that is how we can management it so there is no such thing as a confusion,” Moss stated. “As a result of if you nip it in the bud, then you do not have to worry about that story being turned elsewhere. You’re a stand-up guy. That’s how it may be portrayed, whether or not you realize you probably did one thing mistaken or not. ‘I like that dude for what he mentioned as a result of he took it on the chin.’ That is all it’s a must to do.

“If I’m a quarterback or I am a frontrunner and I drop a ball, then it is me. No matter the way it came or what the other man did, it’s me. At the time [Tuesday] I used to be picturing myself being the quarterback and what I may tell you.. is that, at the finish of the day, I am the final guy that has to make the play to win it or we cannot. If we won, I am going to say we did an amazing job. If we didn’t, I am gonna say I’ve to do a greater job.”

The feedback led to questions on Griffin’s management as well as about whether or not they were indicators of a divided locker room.

Fullback Darrel Young mentioned Moss’ feedback were taken out of context and agreed with Moss that the veteran receiver was difficult everybody and not just Griffin.

“Robert Griffin’s a leader of this staff, and I don’t care what anybody says,” Young said. “I will battle with him any day and I do know [everybody] in this locker room goes to battle with him… He holds himself accountable to us. To you guys, it doesn’t matter what he thinks. It is the fifty three individuals on this locker room that really ride his again. He is been the man since he is been right here. We knew that.

“It is the only thing to talk about as a result of we’re 3-7, however there is not any controversy. This will likely be behind us as soon as we get a win.”

Griffin also said on Sunday that the Eagles’ defense stymied the Redskins because it could match them “tit for tat,” and that the Redskins wanted to counteract higher.

Still only 23, Griffin perhaps has but to fully respect how a lot his words are parsed and dissected. It is why gamers sometimes really feel it is better to say “I” or “me” when discussing bad performs or video games.

“We all want to try this, whether it’s on you or not,” linebacker London Fletcher stated. “It makes everyone else feel higher.”

However Fletcher stated the scenario shouldn’t be seen as signs of a locker room starting to spiral downward.

“I’ve been on teams the place the minute something goes unsuitable, guys begin finger-pointing and the offense is blaming the defense and the defense is blaming the offense,” Fletcher mentioned. “We do not have that kind of workforce. Now we have a bunch of fellows that basically have a look at themselves and say, ‘I ought to have did this better.’ We have coaches that rise up and say, ‘That was on me.’ We now have lots of people which might be accountable.”

After Sunday’s loss, Fletcher raved about Griffin’s leadership, which was questioned by former longtime Redskins cornerback and Corridor of Famer Darrell Green last week, and he echoed his sentiments Wednesday.

“Robert is a superb leader,” Fletcher mentioned. “This is a younger man who was voted captain as a rookie; that does not occur typically. It is voted by his friends, his teammates. Meaning one thing. We know the great management qualities he has.

“I’ve never seen a young player are available in, maybe [Brian Orakpo], who has the maturity and leadership. Robert is doing things the right way. As you develop on this enterprise, you achieve extra experience and also you learn as you go.”

Moss drove his level residence even further.

“I don’t need to be going back and forth within the media about who did not do this and who didn’t do what,” Moss mentioned. “On the end of the day, I was seen with the ball in my hand last, as a quarterback I’m saying, and if it didn’t get finished then I will let you realize it was me. Whether it was me or not. It was me. And I’ll get higher. And we’ll get higher collectively.”

Free NFL Pick for Thursday 7th November Game Redskins vs Vikings

Washington Redskins (3-5) @ Minnesota Vikings (1-7) 11/07- 8:25PM

Line: WSH -1.0

Over/Under: 49.5

With the kind of season the Minnesota Vikings are going through… this just may be what the doctor ordered as the 3-5 Washington Redskins look to win back-to-back games for the first time all season and get themselves back into the race in a weak NFC East division.

The Redskins will be looking to second-year quarterback Robert Griffin III to bring more consistency on the offensive side of the ball and begin to make a run in their division where despite their record are only 1.5 games behind the Dallas Cowboys for first-place and second-place Philadelphia (4-5).

This time last year is when the Redskins ran off seven straight wins to win the division title for the first time in 13 years.

The fans want to have something to believe in, and the players want to have something to believe in,’ Griffin said. “And because of the way our division is set up right now, we have something to believe in and we know we can control our own destiny.”

The Redskins have to be feeling good about making a run after the way they played against San Diego with the defense stepping up to stop the Chargers on three straight tries inside the one-yard line and hold them for a tie before winning the game.

The way we won the game, that can be turning point for us,” Griffin said.

Griffin went 12 of 17 on third down conversions against the Chargers.

Washington coach Mike Shanahan says about RG3….

The great quarterbacks are the guys that are consistent on third down. Anytime you are over 70 percent on third-down conversions your quarterback is playing extremely well.

And that’s what you’ve got to do. You’ve got to do that consistently.”

The running game for Washington has been a bright spot with Alfred Morris leading all running backs with 5.2 average per carry and fifth in the league with 686 yards rushing.

We’ve always believed in the running game.” Shanahan said.

On the Minnesota side of the ball, they are coming off a tough loss against the Cowboys and will be trying to avoid their fifth-straight defeat.

Questionable defensive play calling at the end of the game which resulted in a loss has some Viking players speaking out.

I like for them to talk to their coaches (or) myself about whatever concerns they may have and try to get those worked out,” coach Leslie Frazier said. “But I do understand their frustration and I respect their opinions.”

The frustration grows with each loss with everyone involved,” Frazier said. “We need to put some wins together starting this Thursday night.”

Quarterback Christian Ponder seems to have won the starting position for one more week after last weeks performance (25/37 for 236 yards 2 TDs), but must improve in the interception department where he threw his sixth INT in five starts.

With the odds makers having the visiting Redskins favored at a -1.0 and an O/U at 49.5 on the betting lines… it will be a safer pick with the over/under as both defenses have their share of problems stopping anyone.

The Redskins rank 30th in total defense (398.8) yards per game and 31st in points allowed 31.6.

Mike Shanahan has fired back at Albert Haynesworth. (USATSI)

A couple of days in the past, former high-priced defensive sort out Albert Haynesworth was dropped again into our lives when former Redskins tight end Chris Cooley called him “an terrible human being” and Haynesworth warned Robert Griffin III about “conniving” coach Mike Shanahan.

Haynesworth known as Shanahan “Red Lobster,” mentioned the coach hasn’t finished much of anything optimistic in the playoffs since John Elway retired, and defined further this manner: ““I imply, it’s like, you possibly can’t win with that crew. And you suppose it was simply me? I imply, look how he did Donovan [McNabb]. See what’s going on with RG3. I met RG3. He appeared like an especially good man that’s prepared to work. Now he is gonna learn – I mean, I hate to say he’s gonna study – about Shanahan, how he is conniving and every thing like that, where he’s not gonna assist him out, it is all about him.”

On Thursday, Shanahan fired back on the player whom the Redskins deemed match to present a $one hundred million contract and $forty one million guaranteed.

From the Washington Publish:

Asked on Thursday if he had heard about Haynesworth’s feedback, Shanahan chuckled and mentioned, “Let me put it this way.” He paused, grabbed hold of the mic on the podium and paused earlier than continuing.

Shanahan mentioned, “Let me put it this manner, the one people I actually have not gotten along with since I’ve been a head coach and an assistant coach is someone that is lazy, and No. 2, somebody that is lazy and so they could lack character, or they’re lazy and lack ardour for the sport. These are really the only individuals I have not gotten along with as a head coach or as an assistant coach. And so that is what you are looking for.

“And through my years,” he continued, “people which are lazy and have lacked ardour for their job, they do not go into the next year of their job, and in the event that they do, they do not last the following year. And so the those who I’ve looked at that come back and complain and do some of the issues that you just do when you don’t get along with someone as a head coach or an assistant coach, normally falls in a type of couple areas: lazy, lack of ardour, and lot of times, a lack of character, and he matches all three.”

Fortunately for Shanahan, considered one of his former gamers has taken his aspect.

“His goal from the get-go was to take that money,” Cooley stated. “He also indicated to many players on the crew that his new aim was to get launched as quickly as potential, sign one other possibly $10, 12 million contract – that’s verbatim – go somewhere, play for a year and probably get launched, and maintain that cash too. I mean, if it was a player on this staff presently, I might not talk about this on the air. But being the participant that he was, and the guy that he was round right here, this was open [information] amongst many gamers in this locker room: that his objective was principally to take cash.”

RG3 on his WRs: ‘I can’t control what they say’

RG3 is not nearly as effective as he was throughout his rookie season. (USATSI)

Within the wake of the Redskins latest loss, this time to the Broncos, huge receiver Pierre Garcon defined Washington’s inept offense in 9 phrases: “If you suck as passing, you suck at passing.”

Garcon, who has forty seven receptions for 512 yards and two touchdowns this season, wasn’t calling out quarterback Robert Griffin III, however was speaking extra usually a few passing sport that just is not very good.

On Wednesday, RG3 was asked what he considered huge receivers talking their minds.

“These are grown men,” he said. “I can’t management what they say. Clearly, we’re all in this collectively and everybody’s going to be pissed off here and there. But the only manner for us to get better is to stick collectively, and that’s what we now have to do.”

Griffin was also asked if he gets involved with offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan when the offense sputters.

“That’s a troublesome question that I am not going to reply, as a result of that’s one thing that I’ve to deal with internally,” he stated, via ESPN 980’s Chris Russell. “That is not something that I can come out and let you know guys. Hey ‘I’m doing this, I’m doing that,’ as a result of that’s not beneficial. So that’s one thing I am going to hold between me, Kyle and the remainder of the coaches and the gamers…

“I think all people has opinions about it but we’re the only ones who know what’s going on. It is not my job to come back up right here and inform everybody what goes on on this organization. Our job is to keep that stuff in-home and to make certain we get better from it because it takes all of us.”

Fair enough. But the reality is that the Redskins are 2-5 and are among the worst groups in the league.

“It sucks,” Griffin admitted of the crew’s sluggish start. “And like I mentioned, there are a number of things that go into that but it’s not for me to discuss that stuff up right here. We’ve got to fix that stuff on the follow subject and the game discipline. Nothing that we say goes to vary that. Discuss would not assist. We just have to verify we do the best we can.”

Typically, however, your greatest simply isn’t ok. And it’s cheap to think that if the Redskins limp to five or six wins, both Kyle and his dad, coach Mike Shanahan, might be replaced this offseason.

Regardless of increased calls by groups and journalists to change the nickname, Snyder has said repeatedly he would “by no means” change the identify. Snyder, who just lately hired lawyer and public relations advisor Lanny Davis to assist him navigate latest publicity over the issue, could not be reached for remark Wednesday. Davis additionally didn’t return requests for remark.

In the course of the meeting, Oneida representatives offered league executives with a duplicate of an Oneida-commissioned, 30-web page study that examined whether a “scientific rationale” existed for the stance that the Redskins’ staff mascot harms Native Americans. The conclusion is that it does. In response to the examine:

• The Redskins contribute to “prejudice and discrimination” towards Native People by utilizing the workforce name and mascot, which might be thought of harassment or bullying in a workplace or if used interpersonally.

• Checks have shown that the presence of Native American mascots outcomes immediately in decrease self-esteem and decrease mood within this population, as well as increased adverse associations of Native Americans among non-Native American teams. Importantly, these results happen regardless of whether or not the Native American mascot is considered “offensive.”

• Racial slurs, racial harassment and racial bullying have been associated with poor psychological health amongst Native American children, adolescents and adults, according to examine author Michael A. Friedman, a scientific psychologist specializing in how social setting can influence psychological and physical well being.

“Native Americans are the one group within the United States subjected to having a racial slur because the mascot of a distinguished skilled sports team,” Friedman wrote in his examine. “The Washington soccer team, whether or not it intends to do so or not, is contributing to prejudice and discrimination against Native People by persisting in utilizing the ‘R-word.’ With the help of the Nationwide Soccer League’s $9 billion a 12 months international marketing machine, this behavior not solely repeatedly exposes Native Individuals to a harmful stereotype, but also implicitly condones the use of this term by non-Native People, which if carried out on an interpersonal level would possibly constitute harassment or bullying.”

“Folks ask, ‘Why now?’ however Native Individuals have protested towards this nickname for 40 years,” Friedman mentioned in an interview. “There are 10 totally different studies showing the direct causal effects on Native People and the way it creates a racially hostile environment.”

Then Meriweather turned to Marshall and Bears tight end Martellus Bennett, who each publicly criticized the exhausting-hitting safety last week. Marshall received one in all Meriweather’s hits in the game on Oct. 20.

“I respect the league attempting to raised our sport,” Marshall mentioned after that recreation. “Guys like that, maybe he must get suspended or taken out of the sport utterly.”

Bennett stated later in the week that he needed to punch Meriweather. But Meriweather’s ire was directed extra at Marshall.

“He looks like I must be kicked out of the league, I feel like people who beat their girlfriends must be kicked out of the league, too,” Meriweather said.

Marshall has been arrested a number of times on alleged home-abuse prices.

“You inform me who you’d fairly have?” Meriweather mentioned. “Someone who performs aggressive on the field or someone who beat up their girlfriend?”

Marshall took to Twitter on Monday shortly after Meriweather’s comments.

Meriweather mentioned he thought the enchantment process was handled nicely, citing former NFL coach Ted Cottrell’s function in reducing the penalty.

Meriweather was fined $forty two,000 for a hit against Inexperienced Bay Packers operating back Eddie Lacy in Week 2. He also was fined $50,000 for a success in 2010 with New England and accrued $forty five,000 in fines a year later with Chicago.

“The NFL do what they have to do,” Meriweather said. “I assume they felt like suspending me for that sport was the correct factor to do, so that they determined to make an instance that they won’t tolerate aggressive plays.”

The weekly NFL spread picks; two of the toughest teams to figure out square off

Like so many teams in the NFL right now, we have mixed signals on the Dallas Cowboys.

Dallas is 4-3 and an overwhelming favorite to win the NFC East. That’s mostly because the East is horrendous. And the Cowboys have taken advantage of that.

Dallas is 3-0 against the NFC East. But they’re just 1-3 against everyone else, and the one win came at home against a bad Rams team. The Cowboys can score (third in the NFL at 28.6 points per game) but give up a ton of yards (29th in the NFL at 393.9 yards per game).

Then again are the 4-3 Lions, Dallas’ opponent this week, easier to figure?

Football Outsiders has Detroit ranked 14th this week using its DVOA metric, which seems about right. Every time you’d like to bump the Lions up (because they sure do have some talented players), they lose to the Cardinals, or get blown out by the Packers, or figure out a way to drop a home game to the Bengals.

Still, at home this week against a Cowboys team without DeMarcus Ware (and maybe without DeMarco Murray too), the Lions should cover as 3-point favorites. But who knows what to expect from either team.

Here are the rest of this week’s picks (and I’m aware how awful the record is.. it’s pretty incredible, actually. But as we know, it’s just for recreational purposes. Thankfully):

Buccaneers (+6) over Panthers (picked yesterday): I apologize to the Panthers for jumping off the bandwagon. I’d like back on it, please.

Browns (+7.5) over Chiefs: Hey Chiefs fans, I don’t have the only ranking that moved your team down one spot this week. Football Outsiders’ metrics must be KC haters too.

Dolphins (+6.5) over Patriots: New England seems destined for a lot of close games this year.

Saints (-11) over Bills: I like what Thad Lewis has done, I just don’t know that he’s experienced anything like playing the Saints at the Superdome.

Eagles (-5.5) over Giants: If you saw the Giants perform on Monday night, you’d know they shouldn’t be the pick over any team not quarterbacked by Josh Freeman.

Jaguars (+16.5) over 49ers: At some point Jacksonville has to lose by less than double digits. For the Jaguars’ fans sake, I’ll avoid a London Jaguars joke. You’ve been through enough.

Jets (+6.5) over Bengals: Both of these teams love playing close games, so why not another on Sunday?

Steelers (-2.5) over Raiders: Neither team is that good, but one of them is going to have three wins in a wide-open AFC wild-card race.

Broncos (-12.5) over Redskins: Even on a normal week, the Redskins’ secondary would be a good candidate to give up 50 points to Peyton Manning and crew. With the Broncos coming off a loss, it seems almost certain.

Falcons (+2.5) over Cardinals: It was just the Buccaneers, but the Falcons showed some heart in their win last week.

Vikings (+9) over Packers: If Green Bay can cover this spread on the road with so many key starters injured, that might be more embarrassing to the Vikings than last Monday’s debacle.

Seahawks (-11) over Rams: Kellen Clemens vs. the Seahawks defense? My, my. And yet more horrible luck for ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” matchup. This game looked OK a couple months ago.

Last week: 5-10

This season: 40-67-2

Late in the fourth quarter, Meriweather launched into receiver Brandon Marshall after he dropped a pass in the end zone.

It’s not the primary time the NFL has punished Meriweather. He was fined $forty two,000 for 2 hits in a Week 2 loss at Green Bay. And he was fined $50,000 for successful in 2010 with New England and accrued $forty five,000 in fines a year later with Chicago.

Earlier Wednesday, Meriweather’s teammates fired back at feedback from the Chicago Bears, with Washington Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall saying he has no respect for tight finish Martellus Bennett.

Bennett said on his radio present on WSCR-670 in Chicago on Monday, “I still wish to punch him within the face.”

Bears receiver Brandon Marshall mentioned after Sunday’s game that the NFL ought to think about banning Meriweather from the league.

Brandon MeriweatherBrandon Meriweather was flagged twice for unlawful hits towards the Bears: on this play in opposition to receiver Alshon Jeffery and also in opposition to Brandon Marshall.

“I do not know [Bennett] personally, but he had a chance to say no matter he wished to in the course of the sport, after the game – and the kid did not open his mouth,” Hall stated. “No respect for a guy who wants to take a shot after the very fact. No respect for a man like that.”

“Guys like that, possibly he needs to get suspended or taken out of the game completely… I understand large hits. That is a part of our recreation,” Marshall mentioned Sunday. “But when you might have a guy that does it week in and week out, that is when it becomes a problem.”

Redskins cornerback Josh Wilson scoffed at the concept Meriweather should be kicked out of the league. He and Corridor both pointed to security Reed Doughty, who took a vicious hit whereas diving for an onside kick and suffered a concussion.

“Brandon Marshall can be kicked out of the league for pushing off every time he will get to the top of the route,” Wilson stated. “Every time a receiver comes in and cracks on a safety, he should be kicked out of the league for hitting him. The man that hit Reed Doughty on the kickoff – I might hear it from the sideline.. nobody says something about punching [that player] within the face. It has nothing to do with anybody having a vendetta against anybody. We’re just on the market making an attempt to play soccer one of the best ways we know how.

“Let the league decide what they do. Let the refs throw the flag, and let’s just play the game… It is soccer. You signed up for this.”

RG III: NFL will see fewer dropback passers

ASHBURN, Va. – When Peyton Manning entered the NFL in 1998, dropback passers have been the preferred fashion of quarterbacks. When Robert Griffin III entered 14 years later, one other fashion grew to become in style.

And Griffin stated he anticipates seeing extra groups finding quarterbacks with his model than Manning’s in the future. That is due to how the professional sport has evolved with the adoption of more methods from the school sport.

GriffinSchool has drifted away from the dropback passer. So that you see much less and less of guys that may’t transfer a little bit on the school ranks, which makes it harder to get these guys in the pros.

- Robert Griffin III

“Faculty has drifted away from the dropback passer,” Griffin said. “So you see much less and less of fellows that may’t transfer a bit of bit on the school ranks, which makes it tougher to get these guys in the professionals. If you happen to take a look at some of the prime college quarterbacks which are coming out now, all of them can move a bit of bit.”

Manning, in fact, has not been identified for his legs all through his profession. But his mind and accuracy have made him one of many NFL’s best-ever quarterbacks. He is made a living out of fast selections, which offset how fast defenses have turn out to be during his career.

Nonetheless, lots of the younger quarterbacks, who at the moment are starting, characteristic a sport more like Griffin’s, with the flexibility to make use of their legs: Russell Wilson, Colin Kaepernick, Geno Smith, Ryan Tannehill, EJ Manuel (who at present is sidelined with a knee injury). Andrew Luck is extra of a dropback passer, however he, too, could run elements of what Griffin does, if the Colts desired, because of his athleticism. However they like him to make throws from the pocket.

“You don’t have to have world-class pace, but as long as you may move a little bit bit and threaten the protection together with your legs, it helps,” Griffin mentioned. “I do not assume that quarterbacks like Peyton are going to be extinct ever, but I believe there is a shift going to guys that can transfer a little bit bit. When you have got 6-[-foot]6, 6-7, 290-pound defensive ends working four.4s, it’s type of laborious to just sit back there in the pocket.”

That is not to say Griffin shouldn’t be a fan of Manning. He is a giant fan. Griffin did not want to get into the “sappy stuff” before playing towards Manning’s Denver Broncos on Sunday.

“He is an amazing quarterback, he is always been great,” Griffin mentioned. “He’s one of those guys, regardless that our kinds are various, he nonetheless paved the way for quarterbacks like myself to have the chance to play in the NFL, so you study from these guys and I’ve learned. I will not let you know what I’ve learned, however I’ve discovered.”

Manning stated he hasn’t been capable of watch numerous Griffin but said the Redskins quarterback is “obviously an impressive participant and a real problem for our defense.”
