Fernandez tops Puig for NL Rookie of Year

Jose Fernandez Wins NL ROY

THE BIG APPLE – Jose Fernandez arrived early. Wil Myers made it big after a blockbuster trade.

Neither one wanted a lot time to create a splash, and collectively they introduced both Rookie of the 12 months awards again to Florida.

Fernandez stood out in a very deep Nationwide League class this season, and the precocious Miami Marlins pitcher received 26 of 30 first-place votes from a Baseball Writers’ Affiliation of America panel in results announced Monday.

Myers won the American League prize after the Tampa Bay slugger put up impressive offensive numbers in only half a season. The correct fielder was chosen first on 23 of 30 ballots, beating out Detroit shortstop Jose Iglesias and Rays teammate Chris Archer.

The two bulletins marked the start of awards week in baseball. NL and AL Supervisor of the 12 months will probably be revealed Tuesday, with the Cy Young winners Wednesday and MVPs on Thursday.

Myers turned the third Tampa Bay player in six years to be selected Rookie of the Yr, joining Jeremy Hellickson (2011) and Evan Longoria (2008). Seated subsequent to each other, Myers and Archer smiled and shook palms when the winner was revealed on MLB Community.

Fernandez simply topped runner-up Yasiel Puig of the Los Angeles Dodgers as Cuban players ran 1-2 in the NL race. The only earlier Rookie of the Yr winners from Cuba came in the AL: Jose Canseco in 1986 and Tony Oliva in 1964.

“It means quite a bit just to be compared to those guys,” Fernandez said. “I am undecided I was even born when those guys have been taking part in. However for sure I heard the names earlier than and they did numerous good issues in baseball… All the youngsters in Cuba play baseball.”

Puig acquired the other four first-place votes and amassed 95 points to 142 for Fernandez, who made the All-Star workforce at age 20. He went 12-6 with a 2.19 ERA and 187 strikeouts for a last-place club that finished 62-one hundred.

After the Marlins dumped almost all their excessive-priced stars last winter, Fernandez was a uncommon shiny spot this season. The best-hander became the fourth Marlins player in 11 years to win Rookie of the Yr, following Chris Coghlan (2009), Hanley Ramirez (2006) and Dontrelle Willis (2003).

“I am very comfortable that he received,” Puig informed in comments circulated by the Dodgers. “He labored really laborious to attain this and he pitched extraordinarily nicely with Miami and he deserved this simply as we deserved to be nominated. I’m joyful for him, that a Cuban won. I’m glad his grandmother arrived and I hope he enjoys his time along with his grandmother and enjoys the prize he received.”

The 22-12 months-previous Myers batted293 with 13 house runs and 53 RBIs in solely 88 games after he was known as up from the minors June 18. He immediately added a lot-needed power to the middle of the Rays’ lineup, helping them reach the playoffs as an AL wild card.

They won a tiebreaker at Texas for the final AL playoff berth and beat Cleveland within the wild-card recreation earlier than getting eradicated by World Sequence champion Boston in the division sequence.

“I acquired plenty of texts and emails from guys who have by no means been on TV that seem to have all the solutions,” DeRosa stated, half-jokingly, in a cellphone interview with Big League Stew. “About what I needs to be saying and doing, how I ought to be sitting, what cameras to look in, find out how to put on my hair. I get a giant kick out of stuff like that.”

DeRosa will try to take what he’s realized, together with the notes nicely-meaning folks have given him, when he visits the No. forty two set for MLB Community. He’s showing on “MLB Tonight Live” on Thursday and “The Rundown” on Friday. DeRosa additionally appeared on MLB Network in 2009.

The truth can sting, even when said good-naturedly. However DeRosa’s strategy to stay tv is like that as a professional ballplayer. After spreading himself out by enjoying football and baseball as a boy and in high school, he turned the quarterback for Penn within the Ivy League.

“I did not put my heart and soul into baseball till I acquired drafted,” DeRosa stated. “This recreation’s all the time been about studying for me.”

Even through the 2013 season, DeRosa learned lots about himself. After lacking the better part of three years due to a recurring wrist harm, DeRosa hit235/.326/.407 with seven homers in 204 at-bats as a platoon participant for the Toronto Blue Jays. His adjusted OPS was precisely league average — a long way from where he was coming from in recent seasons. He could have taken a bathe and relaxed and use better judgment.”

So, at Penn, was DeRosa a nerd or a jock?

“I utterly tricked the academics at Penn,” DeRosa mentioned. “I’m nowhere near being a nerd. I used to be an athlete with good grades in highschool that did not have any major scholarship offers and felt that was the best route in case baseball didn’t pan out. I would never contemplate myself a nerd — not that there’s something wrong with that.”

In the meantime, DeRosa hopes followers get pleasure from him speaking baseball as much as he likes talking about it.

AL Wild-Card Game Recap- Rays vs. Indians

AL Wild-Card Game Recap- Rays vs. Indians

The Tampa Bay Rays had another must-have win on the road game starring them in the face again. This time against the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night… and once again, the Tampa Bay Rays were the better team as they shutout the Indians 4-0 to advance to the American League Division Series starting Friday in Boston. The Rays have played three cities over four games for their right to advance, while the AL East champion Boston Red Sox, well rested, have not played since last Sunday.

Rays pitcher Alex Cobb went nearly seven innings, picking up the victory. Cobb did struggle to get out of jams in the fourth, five, and seventh innings before turning the ball over to the bullpen, who shut the door on the Indians the rest of the way.

Rays Delmon Young hit a home run in the third inning off Indians’ rookie pitcher Danny Salazar, and that was all they needed.

Cleveland had their chances throughout the game to score runs, loading the bases in the fourth inning, and put two on in the fifth, but could not deliver the big hit to make a game of it. The Indians’ one through three hitters… Bourn, Swisher, and Kipnis went a combined 0-12 in the game.

The Cleveland Indians finished the season with 92 wins under first year manager Terry Francona. It was their first postseason appearance since 2007.

The Boston Red Sox went 12-7 against the Rays this season. They will host the first two ALDS games, and the Rays, who have been on the road for nearly two weeks, will not play another home game until Monday night.

AL Wild Card Preview- Tampa Bay Rays vs. Cleveland Indians

Chicago White Sox v Cleveland Indians

Wild Card Preview

Game 1 Tampa Bay Rays (92- 71) @ Cleveland Indians (92-70) 10/2 8:07PM EST

On Wednesday night in Cleveland, the much traveled Tampa Bay Rays will play yet another road game against the Indians for the right to move on, and go on the road again to square off against the Boston Red Sox on Friday. The Rays have traveled 3,627 miles within the last week, going from Tampa to New York, Toronto, Texas, and now Cleveland. If they win Wednesday night… Boston.

The Rays have earned a wild-card spot three out of the last four years, while the Indians will be making their first playoff appearance since 2007.

The Rays feel they are battle tested, as they fought in every ballgame over the last week to earn a shot at a wild-card. Rays skipper Joe Maddon says “I’ll tell you what… we’ve played this wild-card game a couple times. We did it in Toronto a couple days ago. We did it yesterday in Texas, and we’re going to come here tomorrow and do it again. I don’t know if there’s a battle- tested component to that, if you get immune to whatever that pressure is and you go play.”

The Indians as well had to claw their way into a wild-card spot, by winning their last 10 straight ballgames for the right to host the win-or-go-home-game Wednesday night. Cleveland has not won a World Series title in 65 years. Indian manager Terry Francona would love nothing more to take his Indians into Boston to face his former team who he won two World Series Championships with, and was fired last year.

The Rays and Indians met six times during the year, with Tampa Bay winning four games… however, this will be the first meeting since early June.

Pitching for the Rays will be Alex Cobb (11-3) 2.76 ERA. For the Indians, rookie Danny Salazar (2-3) 3.12 ERA will be on the hill.

Both teams feel very confident to be able to get the job done and advance to the divisional series versus Boston on Friday night. The Rays being road tested, and the Indians riding a 10 game win streak. I expect a great game Wednesday night.

MLB Game 163- Rays vs. Rangers Recap

Finally after 162 games played during the regular season, we have a second wild card winner with the right to take on the first wild card winner.. the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night for their one game showdown. Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher David Price pitched his fourth complete game, and it couldn’t come at a better time as the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Texas Rangers 5-2 in Arlington, Texas on Monday night.

For the second time in three years, the Tampa Bay Rays will heading back to the playoffs to take on the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night. Rays third baseman Evan Longoria helped lead the Rays offense with a two-run homer in the third inning. For pitcher David Price, the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner finishes the season at 10-8. Price’s four previous starts at Rangers ballpark resulted in an ERA of 10.26, so going the distance in this one made him more then overcome with emotion.

For the Texas Rangers, they were picked by many for a return trip to the World Series, let alone just making the playoffs, which they have done the last four years. Even with the addition of right fielder Nelson Cruz to the line-up, it wasn’t enough as he finished the evening 0-4. Cruz, had 27 homers and 76 RBIs in 108 games for the Rangers before he was suspended 50 games for performing-enhancing-drugs. Rookie pitcher Martin Perez (10-6) took the loss for the Rangers.

The Rangers had beaten the Rays in the AL Division Series in 2010 and 2011. This year, it was the Tampa Bay Rays who got the best of them. The Tampa Bay Rays will be playing their third game in three cities in four nights, when they travel to play Cleveland for the right to travel to Boston on Friday night.

Major League Baseball- Game 163 Texas Rangers vs. Tampa Bay Rays

Tampa Bay Rays @ Texas Rangers 9/30/2013 8:07PM EST

Even after playing a grueling 162 game schedule, which came to a conclusion on Sunday, it was still not enough to decide the second wild card winner between the Texas Rangers (91-71) and Tampa Bay Rays (91-71) in this year’s American League. With game 163 scheduled tonight between these two teams in Arlington, Texas, it’s win-or-go-home for both teams. There is no tomorrow if you lose.

Both the Rangers and the Rays were not expected to be in this situation, however, thanks to a late season surge by the Cleveland Indians, who won their last 10 regular season games, they earned the right to be the first wild card winner. Their first appearance in the post season since 2007 when they blew a 3-1 lead to the Boston Redsox.

The Tampa Bay Rays will be sending to the hill David Price (9-8) 3.39 ERA against rookie Martin Perez (10-5) 3.55 ERA for the right to play on Wednesday night in Cleveland for a one game showdown. The winner then gets to travel to Boston to face the Redsox beginning Friday. The pressure will be on the Rangers, who were expected to win their division this year, if it were not for the most surprising team in baseball this year, the Oakland Athletics.

Texas blowing a 3 ½ game lead less then 6 weeks ago, did not help their cause either. However, one added bonus for the Rangers Monday night will be the addition of right fielder Nelson Cruz, who was activated for tonight’s game following a 50- game suspension for the use of performing-enhancing-drugs. If Cruz can pick up where he left off before being suspended, and give the Rangers that added pop in the middle of their line up… I look for the Texas Rangers to move forward and play the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday.

In Tuesday’s National League wild card game, the Cincinnati Reds (Johnny Cueto) will face the Pittsburgh Pirates (Francisco Lariano) 10/1 8:07PM EST

Rays, Rangers force AL wild-card tiebreaker

The Texas Rangers have added game No. 163 to the regular-season schedule.

Beating the Angels 6-2 for his or her seventh win in a row Sunday afternoon, the Rangers compelled a one-sport tiebreaker with the Tampa Bay Rays for the second AL wild-card spot. The Rays beat Toronto 7-6 earlier Sunday.

The Indians, who closed the regular season on a ten-recreation win streak, clinched the primary wild-card berth.

The Rangers will host Tampa Bay on Monday evening. The winner performs two days later at Cleveland in another win-or-be-done match-up.

Monday, the Rays will give the ball to left-hander David Price (9-eight), while Texas starts left-hander Martin Perez (10-5).

Worth referred to as it the type of situation he dreamed about as somewhat kid.

“Fingers down my largest sport of this year, evening and day greater than Opening Day,” he said. “This is a second that I wish to be in. I need to be able to relish this second and go on the market and have enjoyable.”

Whoever emerges because the wild-card winner will then face AL chief Boston.

Girardi: Rivera in outfield under consideration

NEW YORK – Mariano Rivera has amassed a file 652 saves, has been a member of five World Series championship groups and is almost universally acknowledged as the best closer baseball ever has known.

This season, he has enjoyed a career victory lap afforded few gamers within the historical past of any sport.

But there may be still one unfulfilled wish on Rivera’s bucket checklist, and on Thursday, he moved nearer to making it a actuality: Yankees manager Joe Girardi said he would significantly contemplate taking part in Rivera in heart subject this weekend in Houston in considered one of his membership’s final three video games.

“Completely,” Girardi stated when asked if he was entertaining the prospect of allowing Rivera to attain one more baseball dream. “However not right here, as a result of these games are nonetheless meaningful for Tampa.”

The Yankees have been officially eradicated from playoff contention Wednesday night, but have one more house recreation remaining with the Rays, who’re nonetheless battling the Cleveland Indians and Texas Rangers for one of the two AL wild-card spots.

However with neither the Yankees nor the Astros enjoying for anything this weekend, Girardi mentioned he would possibly allow Rivera to play an inning or two within the outfield.

“You recognize, I don’t understand how I would do it,” Girardi mentioned. “It’s something I must speak to him about. It is a situation the place I might carry him in within the eighth to play the outfield, after which have him close it out within the ninth, if we have that opportunity.”

All through his career, Rivera has loved shagging flies in the outfield as the Yankees took batting practice. In actual fact, it was in the act of chasing a BP fly ball in Kansas Metropolis, Mo., in May 2012, that Rivera tore the ACL in his proper knee, costing him much of last season.

In 2011, he told a TELEVISION interviewer, “I might like to play center discipline not less than for one inning or one out. I told my manager. I do not think it will happen, however I hope so.”

Now, it may, though when Girardi’s phrases were relayed to Rivera earlier than Thursday night time’s sport, the 43-year-old seemed less eager than he would have been earlier than the damage.

“It might be something good, if I allow it, though,” Rivera stated. “One factor I’ll inform you – if I can do it, I’ll do it. If I can not do it, I won’t be making a fool of myself there. I’m knowledgeable. This isn’t a joke for me. That is critical.”

One of many quirks of Minute Maid Park in Houston is a 30-diploma rise in heart area known as Tal’s Hill, though it’s 436 feet from home plate. But Rivera’s considerations seemed to have more to do together with his bodily situation.

“I put within the request means back, a very long time ago, and now my knees will not be the same,” he stated. “This is not a sport for me. I do not understand how you guys are taking it but this is not a sport for me. It is something that I respect. We’ll see what happens. If I am OKAY, if I can do it, I’ll do it, if not, that is positive with me.”

The Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Indians have both won six video games in a row and the Texas Rangers have won three in a row. Speaking about being targeted down the stretch.

The Rays and Indians hold the Wild Cards proper now, with the Rangers a game behind the Indians. The Rangers play the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday, who simply took two straight from the AL West-successful Oakland A’s. If Texas can beat the Angels and the Indians lose to the Minnesota Twins, we’ll have a tie again. But with 4 games left for all three Wild Card contenders, things are nonetheless very fluid.

2. The Royals are out: Properly, Royals, it was enjoyable. We loved your plight, the entire first-playoff-appearance since 1985 thing. We favored the man with the belly too. Effectively, it was enjoyable prefer it lasted. Possibly subsequent year. Bye, Royals.

(Getty Images) 3. The only division that needs a champion is the NL Central: With the Tigers clinching the AL Central on Wednesday night time, their NL counterpart is the one division with out a champ. The Cincinnati Reds are out of the division hunt now. The Pittsburgh Pirates are three behind the St. Louis Cardinals with three games left to play. Duh, duh, duh. Neither workforce plays on Thursday, by the way in which.

four. If the playoffs began at present: The bracket under shows how things would look.

He then took a last walk to the mound, a man alone, rubbing his ft on the rubber, kneeling and gathering a bit of his workplace as a souvenir.

“I wanted to get some dust, simply stay there for the last time, realizing that I ain’t going to be there no extra, especially pitching,” he said. “Perhaps throw a first pitch one yr, at some point. But competing – won’t be there no extra. So that little that I used to be there was particular for me.”

Rivera had entered with one out and two on within the eighth to a recorded introduction by Bob Sheppard, the longtime Yankees public handle announcer who died three years in the past.

Fans stood, applauded and chanted his title as he jogged in from the bullpen to Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” and continued for two minutes as he took his warmups. The whole Tampa Bay bench emptied and stood on the dirt warning monitor in front of the dugout and applauded.

Bud Selig calls Coliseum in Oakland ‘a pit’ during candid radio appearance

(USA Immediately)

selig, calls, coliseum, oakland, during, candid, radio, appearance appeared on the John Feinstein show on Wednesday and was very blunt about several baseball subjects. Most notably, Selig offered sturdy opinions when asked about

the continued sewage problems at Coliseum

— aka Oakland Coliseum — and the A's growing want for a new stadium.

From the John Feinstein Show:

“It’s a pit,” Selig mentioned. “It reminds me of previous County Stadium and Shea Stadium. We have to cope with that. I’ve had a committee working on it for two or three years, and there’s no question we’re going to have to unravel that problem.”

However hasn’t the committee been working on it for a very long time? What’s the hold-up?

“We have, John, but I’ll inform you it’s far more complicated,” Selig said. “Look, you may have one staff that wants to maneuver and the other group doesn’t want them to move, and it’s a very difficult state of affairs. Earlier than I go away, I’m happy we’ll work out one thing.”

The A's desired destination continues to be San Jose, however the San Francisco Giants have claimed ownership of the San Jose market and stay unwilling to budge. These issues have already been dragged out over the past couple years, and till the authorized matters might be resolved, the A's and MLB will likely be stuck in a holding pattern. These are the problems Selig spoke of, and even if the A's have been ultimately allowed to build in San Jose, we're talking one other 12 months or two added before they're taking part in in a brand new residence.

That is not nearly soon sufficient for Selig, who made it clear he isn't thrilled concerning the Coliseum enjoying a prominent function in the postseason.

“I’m not comfortable about it,” Selig said. “It’s an unlucky mess. I wish there was a simple answer, but in fact, there may be not a simple resolution.”

Selig also weighed in on the Rays attendance issues at Tropicana Field, calling the situation "disgraceful." And offered this response when asked who he considered the all-time residence run king between Hank Aaron and Barry Bonds.

“Henry Aaron and I, as you understand, have been extremely shut mates for fifty eight years now; it’s exhausting to consider,” Selig stated. “I consider he’s the greatest participant of my generation. I saw him — I want everyone might have seen him within the ’50s when he was younger and not attempting to pull all the things. He was unbelievable to watch. Unbelievable. He’s a man of class, a man of dignity. He’s represented our sport superbly, and his carer is famous. I’m not going to say any more on that. You can figure out from my reply, I’m sure.”

Contemplating Barry Bonds was ignored in that response, we can.

The one matter pushed by Feinstein that Selig wouldn't contact was Alex Rodriguez, but who can blame him on that? He'll have plenty of time to talk about A-Rod once his hearing begins on Monday in New York.

Six things you need to know about baseball’s postseason picture

After Monday’s video games, seven of the ten teams that can take part in the MLB postseason are locked in. The

is almost complete. But with six days of baseball left within the regular season, there are nonetheless some essential things that must be decided.

As we speak, we offer up six things that you simply, the reader, have to know about baseball’s postseason image. On Wednesday, we’ll give you 5. And so forth.

1. The Nationwide League groups are set. The hierarchy of them isn’t. Monday’s wild evening within the NL Central confirmed that the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds are within the postseason. They will each still attempt to unseat the St. Louis Cardinals for the NL Central title. St Louis has a two-sport lead. If neither can, the Pirates and Reds will meet within the Wild Card sport. House-discipline advantage in that single-elimination game is still up for grabs too. The Braves and Dodgers are the other NL playoff teams, with the Braves at the moment owning the most effective report within the NL and home-field benefit.

2. The Detroit Tigers will be the next group to clinch a postseason berth. It’s form of bizarre that the Pirates have sewn up their postseason spot and the Tigers aren’t formally in but. However they are going to be. As quickly, maybe, as Tuesday. The Tigers can clinch the AL Central with a win against the Minnesota Twins AND a Cleveland Indians loss. If the Tigers win, they clinch just a postseason berth. Detroit additionally clinches a postseason berth with a Texas Rangers loss.

3. One of the best race left is the AL Wild Card

. Apart from the NL Central teams jockeying for place, that is the really crucial thing that wants deciding. Going into Tuesday’s video games, the

Tampa Bay Rays

and Cleveland Indians have the Wild Card spots. The Rays have a one-game lead over the Indians. And the Indians have a one-recreation lead over the Texas Rangers. The Royals are three video games again. And the Yankees

4. It’s just about a wrap for the Baltimore Orioles. Their un-magic number (i.e. their elimination quantity) is 2. However Monday certain felt just like the the tip for Baltimore. They lost Manny Machado to harm and then lost their recreation through a pinch-hit, stroll-off homer. Ouch. Whereas the Orioles are technically alive, Fangraphs places their playoff odds at zero.00%. So.. Houston Astros TV scores? Word.

5. Talking of the Astros. They’re actually relevant to this postseason dialog. Their final five games are towards two contenders — the Texas Rangers, who wish to catch the Indians, then the New York Yankees, who might have very properly fallen to a fiery doom earlier than visiting Houston this weekend. Level is, the Astros could be a doormat to the postseason. Fitting, is not it? The Indians, meanwhile, have six games left against two not-so-good teams: the White Sox and Twins

6. The A’s could catch the Red Sox. And by that, we mean for the most effective document within the American League and thusly, residence-area advantage throughout the AL side of the playoff bracket. The A’s are 94-sixty three while the Pink Sox are ninety five-62. The A’s play the Angels on Tuesday and the Pink Sox play the Rockies.

Drunk Red Sox fan arrested after twice grabbing Rays mascot by the neck

(Getty Pictures /

Major league mascots haven’t got essentially the most comfortable of jobs — are you able to think about trudging round a stadium each day in a heavy, scorching costume? It’s a bit extra uncomfortable for the mascots when followers get somewhat too wild and begin grabbing them by the neck.

This is what happened to Raymond, the Tampa Bay Rays mascot, throughout Tuesday night’s sport towards the Boston Red Sox. I know what you’re considering: “Certainly no hometown fan would attempt to choke his own mascot.” Right. It was a Pink Sox fan from the Boston suburb of Needham, who made tormenting a furry mascot part of his roadtrip. The Tampa Bay Times has more:

Trevor James Martin, who lives in a Boston suburb, was ingesting beer as the Rays performed the Boston Red Sox at Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg police said.

Martin, 27, reached throughout the stadium’s railing and twice grabbed Raymond by the neck, officers said. Martin was staggering, slurring his words and smelled of alcohol, according to an arrest affidavit. Raymond pushed back and broke free, police said.

Martin, who instructed officers he drank two beers in the course of the recreation, faces a misdemeanor charge of disorderly intoxication. The “sufferer within the mascot go well with” declined to press battery costs, police said. Martin was released from Pinellas County Jail early Wednesday on $a hundred bail.

A little little bit of Googling will show you that there’s a Trevor James Martin who lives within the Boston area and has worked as a production assistant on movies corresponding to “Pain & Acquire” and “The Fighter.” You’ll think he understands the plight of costumed entertainers.

Each teams are seventy nine-fifty eight, with two more games towards each other this week then one other three-sport set subsequent week.

The A’s victory wouldn’t have occurred with a two-run, fifth-inning homer from Coco Crisp that broke a 2-2 tie. It smacked off the left-field foul pole and the umpiring crew reviewed the play before upholding the home-run call — a welcome on the spot-replay victory for an Oakland staff that’s been on the fallacious facet of reviewed homers a few occasions this season.

Dan Straily pitched solely 5 innings for the A’s, however acquired the win whereas giving up three hits and two runs. The Oakland bullpen gave up five hits, however didn’t let one other Ranger run cross the plate.

The A’s picked up the win here after sweeping another playoff hopeful, the Tampa Bay Rays, over the weekend and taking three of four from the Detroit Tigers final week. It’s a nice turnaround for a staff that faltered in August, going 14-13 for the month, a mark that will have appeared much worse had it not won five of six video games to complete the month. Only a month ago, on Aug. 3, the A’s had a 3 half of game lead on the Rangers in the AL West.

PIRATES RETAKE NL CENTRAL LEAD: It’s Sept. 3 and the Pittsburgh Pirates are all alone atop the NL Central, just two wins away from clinching their first winning season in 20 years.

On Sunday, the Pirates beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-2. That mixed with — spoiler alert — a St. Louis Cardinals loss, broke the primary-place tie within the NL Central. Pittsburgh acquired a huge three-run homer from Neil Walker in the seventh inning, which turned a 2-1 game right into a 5-1 sport. The Pirates received seven innings of two-run ball from beginning pitcher Charlie Morton.

(Getty Images)

Dodgers 10, Rockies eight: Clayton Kershaw withstands a rough begin (together with a career-high 11 hits allowed) and the Dodgers win. Yasiel Puig, nevertheless, leaves the sport with a strained knee and will seemingly sit out Tuesday’s recreation.

Angels 11, Rays 2: When a crew scores 11 runs, its beginning pitcher can get away with strolling seven in five innings. For Angels starter Garrett Richards, all those walks someway only led to 1 run.

Phillies three, Nats 2: The Phillies get two in the bottom of the eighth — a Jimmy Rollins RBI double and a Carlos Ruiz RBI single being the clutch moments — to high the Nats.

Blue Jays 4, D-backs 1: Esmil Rogers pitches 6 1/three innings of 1-hit ball for Toronto.

Orioles 7, Indians 2: Bud Norris pitches seven innings, giving up just one run and 4 hits. He is now four-0 since being traded to Baltimore.

Padres 4, Giants 1: Barry Zito loses his eighth straight and Ian Kennedy wins his first begin against an NL West group this season.

(Getty Photographs)

Reds 7, Cardinals 2: Mat Latos throws a four-hit full recreation for the Reds while Adam Wainwright provides up 10 hits and 6 runs.

Marlins 4, Cubs 3: Henderson Alvarez not only pitches six innings and gets the win for Miami, but he additionally hits a three-run homer.

Twins 10, Astros 6: Chris Colabello homers twice for the Twins, including a ninth-inning grand slam.

Royals 3, Mariners 1: Felix Hernandez loses once more for the M’s, whereas Will Smith fans eight in a stellar four-inning aid appearance for Ok.C.

Tigers three, Pink Sox zero: Doug Fister combines with Phil Coke, Bruce Rondon and Jose Veras to shut out the Purple Sox.

Braves 13, Mets 5: Freddie Freeman knocks five RBIs as Braves beat up on Dice-Okay Matsuzaka and the Mets.

Yankees 9, White Sox 1: The Yanks get an eight-run fourth inning, plus two hits from Derek Jeter, to whack the Sox.

”That was actually a troublesome one; it actually damage. It was like a stab within the coronary heart.”

— Nationals manager Davey Johnson on Monday’s loss.

(USA As we speak)

No, Derek Jeter did not immediately go on the disabled record after this play.

• Indians ace Justin Masterson left Monday’s sport in the second inning with tightness in his aspect. He’ll get an MRI on Tuesday.

• This season, Freddie Freeman has hit349 with five homers and sixteen RBIs towards the Mets.

• Outfielder Sam Fuld pitched to a batter for the Rays of their loss to the Angels. He received J.B. Shuck to fly out for the Angels’ final out of the sport.
