In the final game of a dismal season for the Vancouver Canucks, things took a bad turn of the worst potential variety Sunday night time. Canucks star Daniel Sedin was taken off the ice on a stretcher after being on the receiving finish of a clumsy hit from Paul Byron.

Here’s a GIF of the hit in question by way of @myregularface:

Here is the hit that has severely injured Sedind on Twitpic

Sedin’s head made contact with the boards after the hit from Byron and he instantly went to the ice. He laid immobile the place he fell for some time and had his head immobilized by an athletic trainer immediately. He was positioned on a again board, along with his neck in a brace.

Sedin appeared alert and was talking to the medical staff that surrounded him and appeared to be shifting his extremities at different factors, nevertheless it was an awfully scary scene.

Hopefully the stretcher was extra for precaution than anything, but it definitely didn’t look good. Preliminary studies from Sportsnet’s broadcast on Sedin’s condition had been constructive, nonetheless.

Byron was given a 5-minute main for charging and game misconduct. The hit was positively from behind, however did not appear to be with much power. That didn’t stop Sedin from contacting the boards somewhat awkwardly as he may have been off stability.

It positively wasn’t charging, but boarding would have been a fair call in that state of affairs. Either method, Byron should not have been making contact with Sedin together with his numbers out there. No matter how hard the shove, when an opponent’s again is facing out close to the boards, that is a weak player.

Henrik Sedin also briefly left the sport after brother Daniel was taken out on the stretcher, but returned for the third interval.

In accordance with the Sportsnet broadcast, Daniel Sedin was being observed by doctors in the stadium shortly after being taken off the ice, but was later transported to a local hospital.

The Canucks shared the latest update later Sunday night time:

NBA Prediction Sunday Preview/Pick- Indiana vs. Dallas

Free NBA Pick and Prediction Pacers vs. Mavericks

Indiana Pacers (46-16, 17-12 away) @ Dallas Mavericks (37-26, 20-10 home) 03/09- 7:30PM EST

Line: IND -1.0

Over/Under: 197.0

The Indiana Pacers take to the court on Sunday night against the Dallas Mavericks as they try to regroup and end their longest slide of the season in what should be an entertaining game.

Dallas will be the second stop for the Pacers in Texas and hopefully they can give a better performance than they egg they laid against the Houston Rockets on Friday night when they suffered a 112-86 blowout loss. I truly believed they were going to leave Houston with a big win, instead what we got was a team that has looked awful since winning five straight not too long ago and now find themselves trying to avoid losing four consecutive games.

Indiana committed 19 turnovers and were outscored in the paint 48-30 against the Rockets, but more disturbing has been their lack of defense over the last two games as they gave up 109 at Charlotte and 112 at Houston while giving up a combined 51.9 percent shooting to both teams.

We just need to win games at this point,” center Roy Hibbert said. “We’re just putting the emphasis on trying to get better. We’ve been playing awful.”

The Pacers (46-16) still find themselves atop the Eastern Conference but now find the two-time defending champion Miami Heat hot on their heals for the top spot in the East.

Despite Indiana’s 37 turnovers over the last two ballgames and lack of defense, coach Frank Vogel doesn’t seem too concern…

Every team I’ve ever been a part of has had a stretch like we’re in right now. And since I’ve been here we’ve always worked our way out of it, so I’m sure we will. It stinks right now. It’s not fun right now, but we’ve got a good team and we’ll regroup.”

Another key to the Pacers getting back to winning other than their lack of defense will be the ability of small forward Paul George to get back on track putting the ball through the net, where he is a combined 5-of-21 shooting for just 15 points with nine turnovers in his last two games.

In Indiana’s 81-73 home defeat to Dallas back on Feb. 12, George was held to just 12 points while going a dismal 4-of-17 from the field as the Mavericks snapped a three-game losing streak to the Pacers.

The Mavericks (37-26) will look to keep it going after beating the Portland Trail Blazers 103-98 on Friday night, however they had to rally after blowing a 30-point second quarter lead. Dirk Nowitski poured in 22 points to help the Mavs snap a three-game losing streak going into the game.

It’s that close; you’re either feeling great about it or it’s a really tough, tough night,” said Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle, who’s Dallas ball club holds a slim lead against the surging Memphis Grizzlies for the eight spot in the tough Western Conference. “This is how it’s going to be the next 19 games; the games are all going to be hard like this.”

From here on out, the Mavericks realize it will be the defense that will propel them into the playoffs.. and let’s be honest, Dallas has never been known as a defensive team but after giving up an average of 109.0 points a game during their three-game skid, they understand what is needed the rest of the way.

That’s what it comes down to, one stop and one opportunity, one stop,” Carlisle said. “That’s how you’ve got to look at it. It’s going to be a character test. If we’re not up to it, then we don’t deserve to go to the playoffs.”

Although the Pacers seem to be going the wrong way, the oddsmakers have faith they can get together in Dallas as they have been made a very slim (minus -1.0) point favorite, but with the line likely to move before tipoff, stay up-to-date with the latest odds here at Wonder Punter.

Expect a close, well played game as both teams realize they must clamp down the rest of the way and play with a sense of urgency, but I am going to agree with the oddsmakers and favor the Pacers to win on Sunday night as I feel they are due to finally get back to playing the style of basketball we expect out of them.

NBA Prediction Wednesday Night Game Preview/Pick- Portland vs. Los Angeles

nba pick trail blazers vs clippers

Free NBA Pick & prediction Trail Blazers vs Clippers

Portland Trail Blazers (36-16, 17-10 away) @ Los Angeles Clippers (36-18, 22-4 home) 02/12- 10:30PM EST

Line: LAC -9.0

Over/Under- 218

With the All-Star break approaching this weekend, the Los Angeles Clippers have to be feeling good with having All-Star point guard Chris Paul back in the mix and with their strong play in the first half of the season as they look to beat a struggling Portland team on Wednesday night at Staples Center.

The Clippers (36-18) will look to add to the Trail Blazers woes by dealing them their sixth defeat in nine games while going for their fifth home win versus the Blazers. The Blazers have not beaten the Clippers on the road since Oct. 27, 2010.

If that wasn’t bad enough, the Blazers will be playing in the second of a back-to-back game after losing at home on Tuesday night to Oklahoma City 98-95. LaMarcus Aldridge had a horrible shooting night going just 5 of 22, finishing with 12 points and 12 boards.

I couldn’t throw a rock in a lake tonight,” Aldridge said.

The Blazers (36-16) are the NBA’s highest scoring team at 107.7 points per contest but have failed to score in triple digits for the fifth time in eight games. Portland has lost six of its last seven games when scoring under 100 points and with the high scoring Clippers (106.7) right behind them, they will have their work cut out for them.

The Clippers went 12-6 during the absence of Paul, who went down with a separated shoulder back on Jan. 3 and were fired-up when he returned to action on Sunday night against Philadelphia as they gave the Sixers a 123-78 spanking. Paul scored seven points with eight assists in nearly 23 minutes of action.

Blake Griffin, 26 points and 11 rebounds and DeAndre Jordan, 10 points with 20 boards along with Jamal Crawford, 21 points were sparked by the return of Paul.

(Paul) set the tone,” said Crawford. “The energy from when he was introduced, to the level of play that he brings, it makes everybody better.’

Crawford has stepped up his game averaging 24.3 points per game in place of J.J. Redick, who is expected to miss his fourth straight game with a sore right hip.

The return and play of Paul on Sunday night quickly put to rest any fears of disrupting the chemistry of the team as he had feared for the Pacific Division-leading Clippers.

It felt great just to play. You never know what it’s going to be like until you actually get out there and compete,” Paul said.

Both Griffin and Paul will be headed to New Orleans this weekend for the All-Star game… Griffin as a Western Conference starter and Paul as a reserve and are feeling confident about their team when second half resumes play next week.

We’re hitting a lit of a stride,” said Griffin. “We’re more than halfway through the season. Hopefully, we’re getting to a point everybody’s going to be healthy and so hopefully this is the time, you know March and April that you hit your stride.”

The oddsmakers feel the Clippers are hitting their stride as they have made L.A. a huge (minus 9.0) point favorite against the struggling Blazers, but get the latest odds up until game time right here at Wonder Punter.

Although I expect a good game between these two teams, I have to agree with the oddsmakers on this one and see the Clippers taking it to the Blazers and avenging an earlier season loss 116-112 back on Dec. 26. I predict a great game all-around from the Clippers as they look to finish the first half of the season strong.

Hernandez victim arrested after shooting

Alexander Bradley

HARTFORD, Conn. – A man who alleges he was shot in the face by former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez in Florida was shot again, this time outside a Connecticut nightclub, where he then opened fire, police said Monday. He was arrested on charges including criminal gun possession.

Alexander Bradley was shot multiple times in the right thigh Sunday night outside the Vevo Lounge Bar & Grill in Hartford’s South Meadows neighborhood and was taken to a hospital under police guard, police Lt. Brian Foley said. His condition wasn’t released, but he’s expected to survive.

“Evidence revealed there was a disturbance in the club that was pushed outside by staff, ” Foley said. “At this point, Bradley was shot. Bradley went to a vehicle, got a gun, then shot up the front of the club. ”

Alexander Bradley, who has alleged that Aaron Hernandez shot him in the face last year, was shot in the leg at a Connecticut nightclub Sunday night.

No other injuries were reported. Responding police officers stopped a car that sped away from the club, and an injured Bradley got out and fell to the street, Foley said. Bradley was charged with criminal use of a firearm, reckless endangerment, unlawful discharge, stealing a firearm, criminal possession and having a gun with an obliterated serial number.

His Connecticut lawyer, Robert Pickering, hung up the phone on a reporter without commenting Monday.

No one answered the phone Monday morning at the Vevo Lounge. Bradley, an associate of Hernandez, alleges in a Florida lawsuit that he lost his right eye after Hernandez shot him in the face as they argued outside a Miami club last February.

Hernandez is detained on a murder charge in the shooting death of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional football player whose body was found June 17 near Hernandez’s North Attleborough, Mass., home. Hernandez has pleaded not guilty. Boston police, meanwhile, have linked both Hernandez and Bradley to a double homicide in July 2012. Police believe Hernandez and Bradley were in an SUV when someone inside the vehicle fatally shot Daniel Jorge Correia de Abreu and Safiro Teixeira Furtado in Boston’s South End, according to a search warrant filed by Bristol, Conn., police.

The warrant doesn’t say who investigators believe pulled the trigger in the double killing or suggest a motive. No charges have been filed in the case. The warrant sought recordings of phone calls made by Bradley while he was jailed in Hartford in October for failing to appear before a Massachusetts grand jury investigating the 2012 shootings.Investigators say they found the SUV used in the Boston homicides at the home of Hernandez’s uncle in Bristol. Police say surveillance camera recordings show Hernandez and Bradley going into a Boston nightclub shortly after the shooting victims went into the club. The recordings also show Hernandez driving the SUV out of a nearby parking garage with Bradley as a passenger briefly before the shootings, police said.

Boston police called Hartford police Monday about Bradley’s shooting as part of their investigation, Foley said

NFL Prediction Week 17 Sunday Night Game Preview/Pick- Eagles vs. Cowboys

ncaa prediction

Philadelphia Eagles (9-6) @ Dallas Cowboys (8-7) 12/29- 8:30PM EST

Line: PHI -7.0

Over/Under: 52.5

The NFL’s regular season-finale on Sunday night will feature the biggest game of the year for both the Eagles and Cowboys who will put it all on the line for the NFC East title and most importantly… a playoff spot.

As widely reported, Tony Romo will not be available for this Sunday’s win-or-go home showdown, so the Dallas Cowboys will put their hopes on NFL veteran Kyle Orton.

The thinking is, with the Cowboys (8-7) having lost their last two regular season finales to division foes to be eliminated from playoff contention, they can’t do any worse with Orton calling the signals.

The more times you put yourself in these situations, you have to keep getting better,” said Romo, who is 1-6 in elimination games. “You have to have a stronger belief in yourself than the doubt of other people.”

Romo will be on the sidelines on Sunday night having had back surgery on Friday in which he hurt last week in their 24-23 comeback win over Washington.

It’s simple for Orton… win, take the title and earn a trip to the playoffs, lose and go home. For the Eagles, a win or tie will give them the East and a playoff spot.

We’ve been operating as if Kyle Orton is going to be our starting quarterback,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. “At the same time we were trying to do whatever we could to see if we could help Tony and get him back as quickly as possible. We just felt like this was the best course of action.”

The Cowboys with Romo under center are 0-3 in regular-season finales with the division title up for grabs. They lost to Phily in 2008 44-6, 31-14 to the New York Giants in 2011 and last year to the Redskins 28-18.

Orton is a nine-year NFL veteran with a 35-34 record and will have an opportunity to lead a team into the postseason for the first time with a win and the Eagles will be ready.

I don’t think the offense changes too much with one or the other,” Eagles defensive coordinator Billy Davis said.

For the Eagles (9-6), Nick Foles has had a great season once he won the starting quarterback position, but a game of this magnitude for all the marbles is uncharted territory for him. Foles worst performance during the season came at the hands of the Cowboys back on October 20 when he went 11 of 29 for just 80 yards in a 17-3 loss in which he left the game in the third quarter with a concussion.

I know everybody is going to dwell on last time, but this game isn’t the last game. Foles said.

Since that dismal performance, and sitting out the following week, Foles has won six of seven, throwing for 22 touchdowns in nine starts with only two interceptions and is also the leagues top-rated passer.

With the absence of Romo, the Eagles can expect a heavy dose of running back DeMarco Murray, who has rushed for 614 yards with six touchdowns in his last six games. He is also averaging 5.8 yards a carry, but will be facing an Eagles defense that has held its last four opponents under 100 yards on the ground.

Philadelphia will also counter with league-leading rusher LeSean McCoy who has 1,476 yards and will be facing a porous Dallas rushing defense that is allowing an average of 150.6 rushing yards per game.

The oddsmakers have confidence in the Eagles getting it done on Sunday making them a big (minus -7.0) point favorite on the road, but get the latest up until game time right here at Wonder Punter.

The Cowboys have put their confidence in Orton, who has completed 12 of 15 passes for 129 in his two years with Dallas.

I think the guys have a lot of confidence in me. I’ve got a lot of confidence in myself,” Orton said. “I can fall back on my experience.”

Will that confidence and experience by Orton translate to a big Dallas win remains to be seen, but all my money is on the Eagles winning Sunday to knock ‘Americas Team’ out the playoffs once again.

NFL Prediction Week 16 Sunday Night Preview/Pick- Chicago vs. Philadelphia

bears vs eagles

Chicago Bears (8-6) @ Philadelphia Eagles (8-6) 12/22- 8:30PM EST

Line: PHI -3.0

Over/Under: 55.5

Before kickoff on Sunday night, both the Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles will know where they stand for the playoffs as both teams are very much in the thick of things.

Here’s how it works… if Dallas losses earlier in the day to Washington, the Eagles (8-6) can wrap up the NFC East title by beating the Bears, if the Cowboys win, then regardless of what the Eagles do Sunday night, the division title will be up for grabs next Sunday in the regular season finale.

Six weeks ago, the Eagles were left for almost dead in the division being under .500 and down to their third-string quarterback—but went on a tear winning five straight and thanks in part to Dallas giving away games, Philadelphia now has a chance to claim the NFC East.

When asked if he would rest his starters if Dallas wins earlier in the day.. Eagles head coach Chip Kelly had this to say…

We’re not in a situation where we’ve got to rest anybody,” he said. “We’ve got to play and get back on the winning track. We’ve got to be ready to play winning football.”

Philadelphia had won five consecutive games before last week’s surprising 48-30 blowout loss at Minnesota.

For the 8-6 Chicago Bears, they have Jay Cutler back and took a one-game lead in the NFC North over Detroit when they Lions lost to Baltimore on Monday night.

The Bears scenario is this—they will win the division crown with a victory Sunday night if second-place Green Bay loses to Pittsburgh and Detroit goes down to defeat against the Giants. Now, if only the Lions lose, it will set up a showdown between the Bears and Packers next week for the division title next Sunday.

The end result is this—regardless of how the Cowboys, Lions and Packers do earlier in the day, the winner of Sunday night’s matchup will have the edge for a No. 3 seed in the NFC playoffs over the other with one week left to go.

The only anxiety for me was depending on someone else, so now that we control our own destiny, I’m kind of at ease and really focused on Philadelphia,” receiver Brandon Marshall said. “It actually makes it easier that we’re in this position right now.”

Chicago was another team that seemed out of any division hopes after being swept by Detroit this season and Cutler going down with a high ankle sprain, but replacement Josh McCown kept it together going 2-2 for the Bears and the Lions struggling to pull away.

Cutler was back in action last Sunday to lead to Bears to a 38-31 win at Cleveland, but many believed McCown should have remained the starter. Cutler struggled early on in the game with two interceptions but finished going 22 of 31 for 265 yards and three touchdowns.

The guys rallied behind me,” Cutler said. “I’d be lying if I didn’t say there was (pressure) with everything on the outside and as well as Josh played. But this was our plan all along and no one really flinched in our building.”

With the Eagles secondary having been exposed last week to the tune of 382 yards through the air, look for Cutler to repeat the game plan with 1,000 yard receivers Marshall and Alshon Jeffery at his disposal and with running backs Matt Forte and Martellus Bennett getting it done on the ground, the Eagles will have their hands full to a team that averages an NFC-high 29.0 points per game.

Chicago might be one of the most talented offenses we face,” defensive coordinator Bill Davis said.

The Eagles will counter with a steady diet of LeSean McCoy who has rushed for 1,343 yards this season and will be facing a Bears rush defense that is an NFL-worst 152.4 yards allowed per game and 5.2 per carry.

The Bears are hoping to have linebacker Lance Briggs back in action to help shore up the Bears porous defense after missing the last seven games with a fractured shoulder.

Briggs went through a full workout in practice on Friday and is considered a game-time decision according to Trestman…

I’m very optimistic,” he said Friday. “Again, he practices for three days. He’s been cleared by the doctors.

We’ll see where’s he at. But I wouldn’t want to say that he’s gonna to play, he’s gonna start. I think that’s still 48 hours away.”

Briggs or no Briggs, the oddsmakers have made the home Eagles a (minus -3.0) point favorite, but get the latest lines on the game right here at Wonder Punter up until game time.

Nick Foles has filled in nicely for the Eagles this season in place of Michael Vick and I look for him to have another big game in prime time on Sunday, but predict a close one.

NFL Prediction Week 14 Sunday Night Game Preview/Pick- Carolina vs. New Orleans

Free NFL Pick and Prediction

Carolina Panthers (9-3) @ New Orleans Saints (9-3) 12/08- 8:30PM EST

Line: NO -3.5

Over/Under: 46.0

Big game Sunday night as the winner of Carolina/New Orleans will battle for control of the NFC South division… the Panthers trying to capture their ninth straight game while handing the Saints their first home loss of the 2013 season.

With a win on Sunday night, Carolina will become the second team to win nine consecutive games and along with it, the opportunity to take over first-place in the South.

There is no roof, no sky,” Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy said. “We’re going up. Every person on this team, every coach on this team has the same mentality right now. I feel like it’s contagious. Fans are getting it. They feel like they can’t be beat.”

Sunday’s matchup will be the first of two games in a three week span for these two teams.

Carolina is getting it done on the defensive side of the ball allowing an NFL-low 13.1 points per game and 289.8 yards per contest… good for second best in the league.

But, how will the Panthers stingy defense fair against Drew Brees and the high-powered offense in the Superdome, who are looking to bounce-back after the beat down they suffered in Seattle on Monday night?

It’s a setback and now you’re on a short week, but we have to make the corrections,” New Orleans coach Sean Payton said. “We can’t just say it didn’t happen. But that being said, we have to quickly get focused on Carolina. They’re playing as good football as anybody in the league right now.”

The good new for New Orleans is that they have not lost consecutive games in a single regular season under Payton since 2009, but Carolina is riding a four-game road winning streak and were the last team to defeat the Saints at the Superdome, 44-38 last December 20th.

New Orleans also fell to the Panthers twice last season, but this is a different Saints team this year in the Dome and Carolina coach Ron Rivera knows his football teaml is in for a challenge.

There are a lot of things they’re doing offensively that make you say, ‘Wow.” Rivera said.

The Panthers will be prepared to follow the blueprint the Seahawks used to shutdown the Saints, who were able to manage only seven points in Seattle… their lowest output since Payton took over in 2006.

Drew Brees isn’t making excuses on his teams or his performance…

The weather did not play a factor. The noise? It’s loud, yes, it’s tough to communicate… but I felt like we did a good job communicating,” Brees said. “We were prepared for that. We just got outplayed.”

How effective is Brees when at home?

Brees has thrown for over 300 yards in each of the Saints home games thus far, with 19 touchdowns and three picks. His 122.2 passer rating at home is second in the league to that of only Aaron Rodgers.

New Orleans offense is scoring 33.2 points per game at home, trailing only the Broncos and Cowboys.

Carolina’s Cam Newton, who threw two picks last week in their 27-6 win against Tampa Bay understands that cannot continue if they want to stay hot and make a run.

We don’t want to get accustomed to the careless mistakes, but we’re just going to have games like this,” Newton said. “We know that we’re going to have to minimize these turnovers.”

And against the Saints, who have only given the ball away 14 times, for the Panthers to have an opportunity to hand New Orleans their first home loss, they must play error-free in the turnover department.

The Saints because of their home play have been made a (minus) -3.5 point favorite as they fight for first-place. With game time getting closer, stay up to date with the latest lines up until kickoff here at Wonder Punter.

It’s going to be a great game, expect back and forth action, great Saints offense versus a great Panther defense. Tough call… Saints play so well at home, but the Panthers are playing so well… period. Saints in a close one with Brees, tight end Jimmy Graham and running back Darren Sproles coming up big.

NFL Week 13 Sunday Night Game Preview/Pick- Giants vs. Redskins

NFL Prediction and Pick Giants vs. Redskins

New York Giants (4-7) @ Washington Redskins (3-8) 12/01- 8:30PM EST

Line: EVEN

Over/Under: 45.5

I’m sure when the television schedules were made, this game looked like a marquee matchup as the last two winners of the NFC East did not think they would be in this position so late in the season not fighting for playoff spot but trying to avoid last-place in what as been a disappointing NFC East this year.

Last year’s game in prime-time was for an NFC East title, this season’s game at FedEx Field is nothing more then for pride and trying to stay out of the cellar in what has been a truly disappointing season for both teams.

Everybody’s got a lot of pride in the NFL regardless of what your record is,” Washington coach Mike Shanahan said. “Everybody wants to win and I’m sure the Giants feel the same way.”

The Giants (4-7) had reeled off four wins in a row leading up to last week’s showdown with the Dallas Cowboys at home and we’re in a position to make some noise in the division, but after losing 24-21, their playoff hopes were greatly damaged as they suffered a season sweep at the hands of the Cowboys.

I think that’s something that we have to deal with a lot of times in this league,” safety Antrel Rolle said. “The pages have been turned. We’re already looking forward to playing a game and getting the preparation in for this week.”

The Washington Redskins (3-8) have been under the microscope all season long with Robert Griffin III coming back to play after having offseason reconstructive surgery on his right knee and without a doubt has not been the same player he was last year as a rookie.

Last season in his rookie year before his playoff injury, Griffin rushed for 815 yards and ran for seven touchdowns, but in 2013 has gained only 367 yards and has not reached the end zone to this point.

We had a dual threat. Now that threat is not quite there as strong as it was a year ago,” Shanahan said. “But now we go to a different direction. We run play-action, we still run some of the zone-reads.”

RG3 has already had a rough sophomore season in the NFL having to answer the critics about the true health of his knee and now seems to be involved in weekly controversies… be it clashing with Shanahan, playing the blame-game for on-field mistakes, his performance on the field or having his father visit him in the locker room following Monday night’s 27-6 blowout loss to the 49ers were he threw for a season-low 118 yards and was sacked for a career-worst six times by the Niners’ defense.

A good performance on Sunday night can at least deter the critics for another week, and going against a Giants defense that has produced only 18 sacks, which is the second-lowest in the NFL only to Jacksonville may be a good start to having a good game.

Griffin had a 105.9 passer rating last year in a series-split with the Giants… but he was healthy.

New York’s Eli Manning is also been the center of criticism this year with his horrific numbers of a 72.5 passer rating, which is his worst since his rookie year. Manning has also thrown 17 picks and the Giants offense as a whole has committed an NFL-high 30 turnovers.

With problems all year long with both teams, we can see why the oddsmakers have made it an EVEN game for Sunday night. Will the line move before kickoff? Check the latest spread here through Wonder Punter to find out.

With the Giants having a host of injuries going to Sunday’s game.. Jason-Pierre Paul, Trumaine McBride, Brandon Jacobs and Corey Webster…. I have to give a slight edge to the Redskins.

One bright spot for the Redskins this season has been Alfred Morris, who ranks third in the league with 970 rushing yards and had success against the Giants last year with 224 rushing yards.

NFL Week 12 Sunday Night Game Recap- Patriots Beat Broncos 34-31 In Overtime Thriller

Denver Broncos (9-2)- 31

New England Patriots (8-3)- 34 OT

Line: DEN -1.0

Over/Under: 53.0

In what seemed to be shaping up like a Denver blowout at halftime turned into an exciting overtime thriller that saw the New England Patriots come from 24 points down and beat the Broncos 34-31 on Sunday night.

Stephen Gostkowski kicked a 31-yard field goal for the Patriots after the Broncos misplayed a punt return capping the end of a New England comeback and overtime win.

We had some plays in the first half that didn’t go our way so it was nice to get a good bounce and we needed it,” said Tom Brady who threw for 344 yards and 3 TDs to become the fifth quarterback in NFL history with 350 career touchdown passes.

The Bronco mishap occurred when Denver’s Tony Carter ran into Ryan Allen’s punt after it landed and Nate Ebner recovered for New England at the Broncos 13-yard line. All that was left was for Tom Brady to run twice to line up the kick, and leave it for Gostkowski to connect for his 21st successful field goal attempt.

Brady threw for three touchdowns to lead the Patriots (8-3) back form a 24-0 halftime deficit to a 31-24 lead as New England scored on five straight possessions in the second half.

Denver opened up a quick 17-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to lost fumbles on the Patriots first three possessions of the game, but the Broncos committed four turnovers of their own to allow the Pats to come storming back and take a 31-24 lead halfway through the fourth quarter.

You can’t move the ball when you’re losing it,” Patriots coach Bill Belichick said. You’ve got to hang on to it.”

New England running back Stevan Ridley, who coughed up the ball on the opening drive, has fumbled in three consecutive games, losing two.

We calmed down. We played each play one play at a time,” Patriot receiver Julian Edelman said. ‘We didn’t turn the ball over in the second half.”

Peyton Manning threw an 11-yard scoring pass to Demaryius Thomas for the Broncos (9-2), tying it at 31.

With six of the seven turnovers occurring on fumbles, one would think with a kickoff temperature of 20 degrees and a wind chill of 6 played a big part in runners holding on to the pigskin. Manning completed 11 of 17 passes in the first three quarters while Knowshon Moreno ran 25 times for 139 yards.

But Carter’s gaffe was the third lost fumble for the Broncos in the second half. And the costliest for the Broncos.

It was really a tale of two halves,” Denver interim coach Jack Del Rio said. ‘We just had a fluke play at the end.”

With the win, New England sits 3 full games of the 5-6 Jets in the AFC East. Denver with the heartbreaking loss, is tied with the Kansas City Chiefs (9-2) in the AFC West…. those two teams are set to meet again next week.

Sunday night’s game marked the 14th time Manning and Brady have met, with Brady holding a 9-4 edge.

The Denver Broncos will be facing another challenge for their second week in a row, this time on the road against the AFC East leading New England Patriots in a prime time Sunday showdown, here is my NFL Pick for the Denver vs New england

It will be another Peyton Manning vs. Tom Brady matchup, and this time Manning will have former Patriots receiver Wes Walker ready for action after suffering a concussion last week as he looks to help lead the Broncos to a fourth straight win.

Manning, despite dealing with nagging injuries to both ankles will be facing Brady for the 14th time, including three playoff matchups and a 31-21 defeat in New England on October 7, 2012.

Denver (9-1) will seek to avenge that last loss Sunday night against the Pats after coming a off a big win last week, handing the Kansas City Chiefs their first loss of the season and tie with KC in the AFC West.

With 34 touchdowns passes in 10 games, Manning remains on pace to reclaim the NFL single-season record from Brady who had 50 touchdown tosses in 2007, three years after Manning amassed 49.

The early lines are giving the Broncos a (minus) -2.5 point favorite at New England, and a healthy Wes Walker could be a big part of that spread who has been cleared to play on Sunday.

I wan to be out there,” said Welker, who passed all concussion based tests this week. “I mean, there are not too many games I’ve missed in my whole career and I love playing the game, especially in big atmospheres like this. So, I’m doing everything possible in my power to make sure that I get the opportunity to play in a game like this.”

Place your bets here!

Welker was a Tom Brady favorite for six seasons with 672 catches, over 1000 yards in five of those seasons and 37 touchdowns before signing a two-year deal with Denver in March.

(Welker) is a tough guy so he’s played through everything,” Brady said. “This is a big game for both teams so you have to expect their best players. I’m sure all those guys will be ready to go.”

Manning appreciates what Wes Walker has brought to the team where he has 61 receptions for 648 yards thus far.

He loves football. He’s a tough guy. He plays through injuries, Manning said. “And those are things that you appreciate about a football player, especially playing in that slot position where he’s taking a lot of hits.”

New England (7-3) will be looking to rebound after last Monday’s controversial ending in a 24-20 loss at Carolina in which an initial pass interference call in the end zone was reversed giving the Panthers the win.

It’s not really our job to call the game. It’s to play it and coach it. Whatever calls they make are the ones that we live,” Bilichick said. “We have to turn the page here quickly, get on to Denver. Good football team, playing well. Obviously, their record reflects that.”

The Patriots have won three straight over the Broncos and Manning is 2-9 all-time on the road against New England (including the playoffs) and 2-7 in visits versus Brady.

It’s pretty well documented my respect for Tom as a quarterback,” Manning said. “The way he prepares. The way he’s better each season than the year before. Those are the couple of the many things that are impressive about him as a quarterback.

Every time you play their football team, you’re playing a well-coached, disciplined team.”

Expect another great NFL game Sunday night, but with a banged-up New England defense, I predict the Broncos leaving Foxboro with a win.

Saints at Falcons: odds, prediction and preview

Thursday evening, the 8-2, and rolling, New Orleans Saints will hit the road to take on the mightily struggling 2-eight Atlanta Falcons in an NFL South match up.

It’s attention-grabbing how the tables have turned for each of these teams in a yr’s time.

Last season, the Falcons had been those that have been vying for a prime seeding within the NFC, while the Saints have been simply attempting to survive a miserable marketing campaign as they handled not having their head coach, stemming from the infamous bounty scandal.

The Saints are available in to this one winners of their final two following the upset to the Jets a couple of weeks in the past. They obliterated the Dallas Cowboys two Sunday nights in the past and squeaked out a 3-point victory towards the 49ers last week, albeit in controversial style because of the roughing name on the hit from Ahmad Brooks to Drew Brees.

After a victory over the Buccaneers on Oct. 20, the Falcons have misplaced 4 straight and are simply trying to get out of this year in a single piece at this point. None of those last four losses have even been shut, together with Tampa Bay avenging that October loss last week, 41-28. In attempting to make up for the losses on offense, QB Matt Ryan has not been environment friendly in any respect, tossing 12 interceptions to his 18 touchdown passes.

Date: Nov. 21

Begin Time: 8:25pm ET

Location: Atlanta, GA

Stadium: Georgia Dome

Odds: Saints -10

Prediction: As a lot focus has been put on the Falcons’ offensive struggles, the protection isn’t precisely doing their part neither. forty one points to that Tampa Bay group is about as inexcusable as you can get. This venture in opposition to their division rival on national television may harm lots worse.

Saints 48, Falcons 17

Pierre-Paul: Blood will be spilled vs. Dallas

JPP: Giants “To Put It On” Cowboys

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The New York Giants’ four-game winning streak and the Dallas Cowboys’ recent struggles imply Sunday’s recreation between the teams at MetLife Stadium will carry a level of significance that when appeared inconceivable.

This isn’t lost within the Giants’ locker room, the place Sunday night time defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul fired up some very confident-sounding talk concerning the matchup.

“We’ll put it on them, man,” Pierre-Paul mentioned after the Giants’ 27-thirteen victory over the Inexperienced Bay Packers, wherein he returned an interception 24 yards for a landing. “I am fairly certain the offense is going to get going. The protection is going to get going much more. And the special groups will contribute to it.

“It may be a combat. It should be a dogfight. There’s going to be a lot of blood spilled on the market.”

The Giants (four-6) started the season with a 36-31 road loss to the Cowboys. That was Pierre-Paul’s first sport again after lacking the preseason following again surgical procedure, and afterward he mentioned he was dissatisfied not to be able to play at full strength because of how essential video games towards the Cowboys are to him. He blocked a field purpose to clinch a win at Dallas in December 2011, helping the Giants en route to their newest Super Bowl title, and he returned a Tony Romo interception for a touchdown in final season’s recreation in Texas.

After this year’s season-opening loss, the Giants misplaced five extra video games to begin zero-6. However they have won four in a row to maneuver within a game of the second-place Cowboys (5-5) and 1½ video games of the primary-place Philadelphia Eagles (6-5) in a tightly bunched NFC East race. Nobody within the Giants’ locker room is going to have a tough time getting up for this one.

“We all know the motivation goes to be there,” linebacker Jon Beason said after the Packers game. “It’s the Cowboys. The winner’s going to go on and nonetheless have an opportunity, and the loser is probably done.”

In Irving, Texas, the Cowboys responded to Pierre-Paul’s potential bulletin-board comments with a collective shrug.

“He’s presupposed to feel that method,” vast receiver Dez Bryant said. “You are an opponent. We’re an opponent for them. It is great confidence.

“We’re simply going to go out there and play our game. All we deal with is the best way we put together and prepare for games. We’re going to go on the market and give it our all.”

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett does not want his staff to get caught up in any kind of trash-talking back-and-forth, just like the outdated days with Brandon Jacobs and Patrick Crayton trading barbs.

“We just have to concentrate on what we have to do,” Garrett said. “We’ve got nice respect for the Giants, their players, their coaches, their football group. We’ve to go up there and play our best football.”’s Tim MacMahon contributed to this report.

NFL Week 11 Game Recap- Broncos Top Undefeated Chiefs To Win 27-17

Denver Broncos vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs (9-1)- 17

Denver Broncos (9-1)- 27

Line: DEN -7.0

Over/Under: 49.0

The Denver Broncos on Sunday night showed us that for now… they are the better team in the NFL as they knocked-off the now no-longer undefeated Kansas City Chiefs 27-17 and take over the top-spot in the AFC West by virtual of the tie-breaker over the Chiefs.

In what was the biggest game of the year so far, Peyton Manning threw for 323 yards and a touchdown and went barely touched as Kansas City with a league-leading 36 sacks went blank on Sunday night.

They were under fire last week because Peyton got hit a few times but they’ve done a great job all year,” said Bronco’s interim coach Jack Del Rio, now 2-0 while head coach John Fox recovers from heart surgery. “We knew this was a game you had to play well in the trenches to have a chance.”

With concerns on the Denver offensive line, tackles Chris Clark and Orlando Franklin, shut out Kansas City’s sack duo of Justin Houston and Tamba Hali along with the rest of the KC defense.

We just keep our heads down and keep blocking- don’t look at the scoreboard, don’t look at the time, keep blocking your guy—like tunnel vision,” Clark said.

The Chiefs didn’t even record a single hit on Manning.

Our plan was to get to the quarterback but the ball is coming out quick,” Hali said. “He did a great job and their team did a great job protecting him.”

Manning agrees…

The protection was outstanding, we ran the ball consistently, tried to keep them off-balance,” Manning said. “We wanted a mix of running and passing game and I’m really proud of those guys up front.”

Both teams now sit at 9-1 in the NFC West with round 2 scheduled in two weeks.

Denver got out to a 10-0 lead after the first quarter against a Chiefs defense that came into the game also leading the league in points allowed (12.8), but Denver’s offense eventually became too much as they possess the league’s highest-scoring offense at 41.2 and held a 17-10 lead at halftime.

Kansas City’s defense hasn’t allowed more then 17 points all year, however the offense isn’t built on going toe-to-toe with a high-powered offense.

Chief’s quarterback Alex Smith finished with 230 yards and two touchdowns and the Kansas City as a whole finished with 344 total yards, but it wasn’t enough.

We didn’t do a good job offensively,” Kansas City coach Andy Reid said. “That’s my responsibility. We’re a young football team. We’ll get it worked out and fixed and get better next week.”

Kansas City returns home to take on the San Diego Chargers before hosting Denver in the second of two in two weeks and Denver will be faced with another marquee match-up against New England in prime-time next Sunday night.

For Sunday night however, round one goes to the Broncos.

NFL Week 11 Sunday Night Game Preview/Pick- Kansas City vs. Denver

NFL Prediction Kansas vs Denver Week 11 free Pick

Kansas City Chiefs (9-0) @ Denver Broncos (8-1) 11/17- 8:30PM EST

Line: DEN -9.5

Over/Under: 49.0

After much anticipation, the wait is almost over as the NFL’s only unbeaten team, Kansas City Chiefs (9-0) go into Denver’s Mile High Stadium to battle the 8-1 Denver Broncos in an AFC West showdown on Sunday night that will determine first place.

Sunday’s marquee match-up will be the first of two meetings in a three week period between these two ball clubs who have been amongst the league’s best all season long.

Denver’s Peyton Manning is expected to play despite a sore right ankle as an MRI preformed Monday showed no additional damage. Manning only participated in walkthroughs to preserve the ankle as much as possible.

It’s certainly my preference to be out (at practice), but I’m trying to do what’s best for the team in order for me to get healthy,’” Manning said.

Manning first suffered the injury last month after taking hits to the same area in back-to-back games and then last week against San Diego was hit again, but despite the beating to the ankle interim coach Jack Del Rio states Manning will be the starter on Sunday.

The Kansas City defense, which has been their ‘calling-card’ all season long will pose the biggest challenge for Manning to date as he must face a defense that has a league-high 36 sacks, with Justin Houston and Tamba Hali combining for 20.

The Broncos have given up the second-fewest sacks in the league with only 13, but eight have come in the last three games with left tackle being the biggest concern where replacement Chris Clark has been inconsistent since Ryan Clady has been lost for the season with a foot injury.

(Manning) will definitely play this week so that’s good news,” Del Rio said. “We’re definitely on high alert in wanting to protect our quarterback. We didn’t do it as well as we could (against San Diego), and we have an even greater challenge this week in the team that’s sacked quarterbacks more then anyone in this league.”

For the Kansas City Chiefs, coming off their bye week are ready to go, however their star Pro-Bow wide receiver Dwayne Bowe was pulled over for speeding in Riverside, MO and also charged with possession of marijuana. Bowe posted $750 bond and is set to appear in court on December 18.

Although Bowe is not expected to be punished by his team for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy or face any penalties until after his court appearance, however, the NFL may decide to potentially hand down a one-game suspension or fine.
There are rules and regulations put in place and we’ll abide by the rules and regulations, and we’ll make sure we take all the information that comes out as it goes through the process,” coach Andy Reid said. “That’s where we’re going with it.”

I addressed him, had that opportunity to talk to him, and I’ll leave it at that. There are laws, rules and regulations, and I’ll leave it at that.”

Defense has been the strong point for the Chiefs all season long as the offense has been sometimes shaky, but it will take a full effort to win at Denver on Sunday night as Kansas City will facing their biggest threat to keep them from a continued perfect season. Their 9-0 start ties the best start since the 2003 KC team.

Off-season acquisition Alex Smith has given the KC offense a much needed boost compared to last year’s team, but it’s been the defense that is doing the job.

But despite Kansas City’s success this season, many feel the Broncos are still the better team in the AFC West and not much respect has been given to the Chiefs including the oddsmakers who now have the line spread at Denver (minus) -9.5 and clearly feel they are the favorite going in on Sunday. But, as always with lines constantly changing up until kickoff, check the spread often here through Wonder Punter and place your bet(s) when ready.

Denver swept the Chiefs last season for the first time since 2007, but Andy Reid’s team have been historically successful returning from byes, such as in Philadelphia where his Eagles won 13 straight games after a bye week.

December 1st both teams will meet again, but for Sundays game, my money is on the Denver Broncos as I feel that they are indeed the better team and as long as Manning is able to be effective calling the signals… I predict the Broncos beating the Chiefs .

PICK: Denver

NFL Predictions Week 11 Preview and Picks

Free NFL Picks and predictions for Week 11

NFL Week 11 is going to be another great week of NFL games with the four big ones in my opinion being Cleveland @ Cincinnati, San Francisco @ New Orleans, Kansas City @ Denver (Sunday night) and New England @ Carolina (Monday night). Here is my quick preview for each game along with the spread and my pick/prediction for each match-up. Remember, you can check the latest lines and place your favorite bet(s) right here through Wonder Punter. Good Luck!

New York Jets (5-4) @ Buffalo Bills (3-7) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: Even

Over/Under: 40.5

With the Jets coming off their bye week, I have to think they will play the better game and expected a little from the Bills to this point. If Geno Smith is on…

Baltimore Ravens (4-5) @ Chicago Bears (5-4) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: CHI -3.0

Over/Under: 45.0

The Ravens are coming off a big home win last Sunday against a Cincinnati team without much offensive production. The Bears will be without Jay Cutler. Still like the Bears in this one being at home.

PICK: Chicago

Cleveland Browns (4-5) @ Cincinnati Bengals (6-4) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: CIN -6.0

Over/Under: 42.0

The Bengals have lost back-to-back games in overtime and lost the last meeting with Cleveland but will go with Cincy in this one to get it done.

PICK: Cincinnati

Washington Redskins (3-6) @ Philadelphia Eagles (5-5) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: PHI -4.5

Over/Under: 53.0

Too much at stake for the Eagles with a chance to get into sole possession of first place with a win and Nick Foles has been great the last two weeks.

PICK: Philadelphia

Detroit Lions (6-3) @ Pittsburgh Steelers (3-6) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: DET -2.5

Over/Under: 47.0

The Steelers have been playing better ball since their ‘rock bottom’ game a few weeks backs, but with a healthy Lions duo of Stafford/Johnson… I like the Lions on the road.

PICK: Detroit
Atlanta Falcons (2-7) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-8) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: EVEN

Over/Under: 43.0

The ‘experts’ have it even.. I kind of agree. With a very disappointing Falcons team this year, can the Bucs win two in a row?

PICK: Atlanta

Arizona Cardinals (5-4) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (1-8) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: ARI -8.5

Over/Under: 41.0

As long as the Cardinals don’t have a ‘let-down’ game, they should win easily.

PICK: Arizona

Oakland Raiders (3-6) @ Houston Texans (2-7) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: HOU -7.0

Over/Under: 41.5

Texans head coach Gary Kubiak is back, Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor is questionable…. seems like a Texans win to me.

PICK: Houston

San Diego Chargers (4-5) @ Miami Dolphins (4-5) 11/17- 4:05PM EST

Line: SD -1.0

Over/Under: 45.5

Always tough for a West Coast team to travel East and play but with the Dolphins in the midst of controversy… can they stay focused?

PICK: San Diego

San Francisco 49ers (6-3) @ New Orleans Saints (7-2) 11/17- 4:25PM EST

Line: NO -3.0

Over/Under: 47.5

I expect a better performance this week from the 49ers, but New Orleans is just a very good team in the Dome. Should be a good. Too much Saints.

PICK: New Orleans

Minnesota Vikings (2-7) @ Seattle Seahawks (9-1) 11/17- 4:25PM EST

Line: SEA -12.0

Over/Under: 45.5

After last week’s solid road performance, I think the Seahawks have shaken off their two-week funk with those close victories.

PICK: Seattle

Kansas City Chiefs (9-0) @ Denver Broncos (8-1) 11/17- 8:30PM EST

Line: DEN -7.5

Over/Under: 49.0

The first of two anticipated meetings is soon upon us.. can the much ‘talked-about’ Kansas City defense do enough to slow down the Broncos?

PICK: Denver

New England Patriots (7-2) @ Carolina Panthers (6-3) 11/18- 8:30PM EST

Line: CAR -2.5

Over/Under: 46.5

Monday night showdown. Tough one for me… Pats 2-2 on the road thus far but are still the Patriots and the Panthers have won five straight. If Carolina has another defensive performance like last week, I like their chances.

PICK: Carolina

Fox back in December?

John Fox is hoping to be back on the Broncos sideline before the season ends. (USATSI) John Fox is hoping to be again on the Broncos sideline before the season ends. (USATSI)

Denver Broncos coach John Fox continues to be in Charlotte, N.C., recovering from his Nov. 4 open-coronary heart surgical procedure, however his goal is to be in Denver quickly – as quickly as he’s medically cleared to fly – and his ultimate objective is be on Denver’s sideline earlier than the Broncos common season ends on Dec. 29.

“My aim and dream is to be there (on the sideline) before the conclusion of the season,” Fox mentioned on Tuesday during a convention call with Denver media, through the Related Press.

Returning to the sideline before the season’s over may be a lofty goal, but if anybody can do it, it’s in all probability Fox. The Broncos coach pointed out that not only is he wholesome now, however he was released from the hospital after solely four days. Most patients who bear aortic heart valve substitute surgical procedure are hospitalized for 5 to seven days.

“I’m very, very wholesome,” Fox mentioned. “I was out [of the hospital] in 4 [days]. So, this isn’t because of poor lifestyle, not being healthy, an excessive amount of stress, not enough stress. That is principally one thing I used to be born with that I wanted mounted. I feel the short restoration speaks to what nice form I am in.”

An issue with Fox’s heart was discovered in 1997, but he wasn’t instructed till this year that surgical procedure would completely be mandatory. Fox referred to as the problem a ‘delivery defect’ and said that his coronary heart issue had nothing to do with the pressures of teaching.

“Sure, there’s some stress and stress concerned in coaching,” Fox said. “However I feel lots of people out there in Denver, on this nation, really around the globe, have very strain-packed jobs. I believe our army comes to mind possibly as a type of that I do not assume coaching compares to. So, it wasn’t the pressure of teaching or any sort of factor.”

Fox made national headlines on Nov. 2, when it was reported he had suffered a heart assault on a Charlotte golf course. What actually happened is that Fox grew to become dizzy as a result of his coronary heart valve was almost utterly closed. “I was receiving very little blood to my physique,” Fox stated.

The Broncos third-year coach then described his expertise on the golf course, “I don’t know for those who’ve ever passed out before, however you are feeling it overcoming you,” Fox stated. “Principally you get tunnel imaginative and prescient and you attempt to fight it off. I hit two pictures, a chip shot and a putt that I can truly let you know I do not keep in mind every little part of it. Then I needed to sit on the ground and truly lay on the bottom. I by no means really passed out, but you’re preventing passing out. And I hit two golf photographs in the midst of it.”

Though Fox mentioned he wish to be again on the sideline before the Broncos regular season ends, he did not supply any timetable for his return.

“I can simply tell you that I’m working very laborious to get higher and I feel like my docs are pleased that I’ve improved day-after-day,” Fox stated. “So things are going great. I like the place I am at right now and we’ll see the place that leaves us.”

In the interim, interim coach Jack Del Rio will handle issues, including Denver’s Sunday night time showdown with undefeated Kansas Metropolis in Week eleven.

Cowboys’ Jones vows not to shake up staff

How Bad Are The Cowboys?

IRVING, Texas – Jerry Jones sees no purpose to shake up the Dallas Cowboys’ teaching workers during the bye week, though he does have some direct recommendation for his coaches.

JonesWe’re 5-5. We’re tied for the lead in our division. We have gamers coming again. We’ve got one of the best quarterbacks in the Nationwide Football League. We’re off of a tough loss. That does not name for main changes out here at all.

- Jerry Jones

Jones, the Cowboys’ proprietor/normal manager, was adamant on his radio present Tuesday morning that defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin would not be a midseason departure and coach Jason Garrett would not seize play-calling duties from offensive coordinator Bill Callahan.

Each potentialities had been subjects of media speculation in the wake of the Cowboys’ 49-17 loss Sunday night to the New Orleans Saints.

“Say it any manner you need to, I’m not even going to deal with – actually I am not – the teaching workers as to whether or not they’re protected or they are not,” Jones stated on KRLD-FM. “We’re 5-5. We’re tied for the lead in our division. We have players coming back. We have got the most effective quarterbacks within the Nationwide Football League. We’re off of a tough loss.

“That does not name for main changes out right here at all.”

Jones firmly answered “no” when asked about the potential for change within the offensive play-calling duties. Garrett gave up those duties this offseason on the urging of Jones.

Monte Kiffin and Jason Garrett

Jerry Jones says he isn’t contemplating giving the offensive play-calling duties again to educate Jason Garrett, left, or changing defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, right, during the Cowboys’ bye week.

With Callahan calling plays, the Cowboys rank fourth within the league in scoring at 27.four factors per game. However, they have sputtered offensively since a fifty one-48 loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 5 and were held to 193 complete yards in Sunday’s loss to the Saints.

Jones particularly shouldn’t be glad with the way in which receiver Dez Bryant is being utilized. Bryant has fifty two catches for 749 yards and eight touchdowns this season but was focused only twice towards the Saints, who double-teamed him on a constant basis.

“We need to get him the ball extra,” Jones said. “I believe that’s the sort of thing that is an inexpensive thing that you could regulate over a two-week interval that we’re going into with our bye week. How can we work to get him the ball more?”

The Dallas defense, which switched to a 4-3 scheme after the offseason firing of Rob Ryan and hiring of Kiffin, ranks final within the league with an average of 439.8 yards allowed. Dallas has damaged the franchise file for yards allowed in two of the final three games, giving up 623 yards in a loss to the Detroit Lions and 625 to the Saints.

Jones is optimistic that the defense will drastically improve after the bye, when defensive deal with Jason Hatcher, cornerback Morris Claiborne and security J.J. Wilcox are anticipated to return from injuries. Beginning linebackers Sean Lee and Justin Durant suffered hamstring strains towards the Saints which are anticipated to sideline them for three or four weeks, Jones confirmed.

Kiffin is considered one of many architects of the Tampa 2 scheme, but Jones mentioned the Cowboys must play extra man coverage to succeed with their personnel, contemplating the damage attrition to the defensive line.

“It’s essential to most likely man up more in the secondary than we’ve been doing, reasonably than counting on zone,” Jones mentioned. “Because if we will not get stress and we’re counting on the normal zone as you would possibly mentally image it, then that is a recipe for what occurred to us the opposite evening.”

The Cowboys enter their bye week at500 after consecutive eight-8 seasons. Dallas, which is making an attempt to finish a 3-yr playoff drought, is tied with the Philadelphia Eagles atop the NFC East standings.

“Certainly, 5-5 shouldn’t be acceptable,” Jones mentioned. “We will say that we had been shut on all however one of those video games. We have been competitive and very easily may have gained any of those four [different] video games that we misplaced. I would have to say it could be a stretch to say that we should have received or we should always have been in there shut in New Orleans. You may get pretty critical of every part when you use New Orleans as a basis to criticize on, but typically, sure, I am going to take our chances with Kansas City the best way we played them up there the second recreation of the 12 months. We had an opportunity to win that ballgame and performed nicely enough to win. Denver, we had an opportunity to win.

“So that you look again on these and I do not assume you take a look at what occurred to us in New Orleans the opposite evening and grow to be panicky.”
