"I thought a reasonably good percentage of ours tonight have been hurried or frenetic at times," Popovich stated. "I did not like our choice."

Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks agreed with Popovich that almost all of the Spurs' three-level attempts benefited the Thunder.

"I assumed our protection was excellent," Brooks mentioned. "I feel in the final three or four video games we've put a string of defensive efforts and defensive performances together we are able to continue to construct on.

"Going into this game they'd won 11 in a row and were the most popular workforce in basketball and with the way they rating they're a hard staff to guard. I assumed our guys did a good job with our size making them miss pictures and I assumed defense was the key tonight."

Durant and Westbrook combined to shoot 6 of 24 in the first half – 1 of 9 from 3-point range – and the Spurs led 46-43 at halftime. Meanwhile, Kawhi Leonard went 6 of 12 from the sphere and had thirteen first-half points for San Antonio.

With common stalwarts Durant and Westbrook struggling, Ibaka picked up the slack early within the third quarter, scoring 10 straight points for Oklahoma Metropolis popping out of halftime. That seemed to get up the Thunder they usually went on an 8-zero run to take their largest result in that point at 59-fifty two on a dunk by Durant at the 5:08 mark.

Lamb hit a 3-pointer and a 2-pointer within the ultimate 1:35 of the third quarter to increase the result in sixty eight-fifty nine and Jackson's driving layup gave the Thunder a seventy eight-sixty seven lead with eight:forty seven left. It was the primary double-digit benefit for both group.

That was Oklahoma Metropolis's final field goal for more than four½ minutes, allowing the Spurs to achieve ground. Marco Belinelli's basket with 6:forty six left pulled San Antonio inside seventy nine-76 but then the Spurs went cold as properly, missing their subsequent 4 pictures.

Bengals halt Brady’s TD streak, edge Pats

Bengals Deal Patriots First Loss

Bengals Deal Patriots First Loss

CINCINNATI – Tom Brady could not get into the top zone in opposition to a defense that’s growing a reputation for taking down the league’s top quarterbacks.

Aaron Rodgers discovered. And so did Brady, working on empty all game long.

The Bengals ended Brady’s streak of 52 consecutive games with a landing move on Sunday, sacking him on his first pass try and keeping the strain going.

The defense even helped BenJarvus Inexperienced-Ellis get into the tip zone for the game’s only landing in a thirteen-6 victory over the beforehand undefeated Patriots.

It was so impressive that defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer was handed a rain-drenched recreation ball in the locker room.

“That is an ideal accomplishment,” coach Marvin Lewis mentioned. “I do not usually give out recreation balls, however I gave that one to Zimmer. They played nicely at the moment. They were tight in protection a lot of the day. Upfront, they got after it.”

Geno Atkins sacked Brady on his first move attempt, and the Bengals (three-2) dropped him four times general. And that wasn’t all: New England (four-1) did not get into the top zone after a primary-and-purpose from the 1-yard line in the fourth quarter.

One yard too much for New England? Gorgeous.

“I am bummed that we misplaced,” Brady mentioned of his damaged streak. “I believe that is all that really issues.”

A driving rain moved in just before New England’s last likelihood. After a few dropped passes, Brady threw one towards the aim line and Adam “Pacman” Jones made a juggling interception inside the Cincinnati 5-yard line.

Some end.

“We knew we have been going to have our hands full, but we have been in a position to get to Brady on the second play,” defensive sort out Domata Peko stated. “After that, you could possibly see he was a bit of shaky. Should you hit someone enough, they are going to make errors.”

Brady had thrown a landing cross in fifty two straight games, the second-longest streak in NFL historical past behind Drew Brees’ fifty four-game streak.

The Patriots had been held out of the end zone for the first time since a sixteen-9 loss to the Jets on Sept. 20, 2009.

“All week long, all you guys have been speaking about was Tom Brady,” security Chris Crocker mentioned. “We wished them to be talking about us.”

They are now, with good purpose.

Two weeks earlier at Paul Brown Stadium, the Bengals’ defense stymied Rodgers in a 34-30 win over Inexperienced Bay, overcoming four turnovers by Cincinnati’s offense that gave the Packers good discipline place.

Brady by no means acquired into a rhythm against Cincinnati’s unrelenting go rush. He finished 18 of 38 for 197 yards with one interception and a paltry passer score of fifty two.2.

Cincinnati’s defense even had a hand – properly, a shoulder – in the winning landing.

The Bengals had failed to score a touchdown throughout a 17-6 loss at Cleveland, one that left them looking to establish an id on offense by running the ball. They did what they wished in a single grinding drive.

Cincinnati went 93 yards in 14 performs for its landing, holding the ball for 7 minutes, 48 seconds. Peko got here in as a blocking fullback on third-and-purpose from inside the 1-yard line however took off too soon, a false begin.

Andy Dalton scrambled to the 1 on a keeper, and Peko came in and plowed the best way for Green-Ellis to attain on fourth down.

Dalton was 20 of 27 for 212 yards with 4 sacks and one pricey interception. He scrambled away from pressure and threw back throughout the field within the first quarter, getting intercepted by Brandon Spikes on the eight-yard line.

It was the primary time during his three-yr career that Dalton threw an interception on a play that started inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.

Given how the protection was taking part in, the one touchdown drive was good enough.

“It’s undoubtedly fun to watch these guys go out and play,” Dalton said. “They’re doing so many good issues, and to see what they do to a man like Tom Brady and what they’ve executed to a whole lot of these quarterbacks – they’re a number of the finest in the league.

“They’re taking part in unbelievable.”

New York Yankees fan keeps 38-year attendance streak going and it costs him job with city

A New York Yankees fan since he was just a little boy, Joseph Neubauer says he has attended every single house recreation the Bronx Bombers have played for the previous 38 years. Sometimes, sometimes, work conflicts have arisen. No longer.

Neubauer says the Taxi and Limousine Fee of New York Metropolis fired him in July after 27 1/2 years due to one-too-many absences associated, primarily, to playing hooky and going to Yankee Stadium. It’s an workplace job; Neubauer does not appear to be a driver.

Neubauer is appealing, but as Matt Snyder of CBS Eye on Baseball notes, he would appear to have little chance of profitable. About as a lot as the Yankees have of making the playoffs. Nonetheless, a 38-12 months-lengthy streak of going to baseball video games is impressive by itself. He’s seen all of it, from each pitch thrown by Mariano Rivera at house, to all three residence runs Reggie Jackson hit within the ‘seventy seven Series, to George Costanza’s notorious cotton uniform debacle. Factor in that Neubauer was able to maintain his job via 27 1/2 of those years is doubly impressive, though the subtleties of civil service jobs in New York may need made it easier for him to pull it off.

Neubauer has gotten in trouble before for skipping work. He has endured suspensions, such because the 60-day penalty he obtained from a decide for going to the All-Star Game in 2011 after having his vacation denied. The yr earlier than that, he was suspended for 25 days for calling in sick 13 instances so as to attend Yankees games. 13! That’s four greater than Ferris Bueller.

Nonetheless, evidently an absence from Sept. 19 2012 was the final straw. From CBS TV in New York:

The Yankees have been rained out the night earlier than and rescheduled for the next day. Neubauer refused to interrupt his 38-year custom and took a day off from work without permission.

“I really feel like I regretted it in a method. I just wish to attempt to come back,” he mentioned.

I really feel like I regretted it in a means. I just want to try to come again.

Oh, is that every one?! Positive! Properly, come on back, Joe!

OKAY, so irrespective of how cool this streak is, Neubauer clearly has been playing with home cash for some time. Nonetheless, before you bury him with frequent sense, learn the official paperwork associated to his firing that reveal different attention-grabbing factors:

• Neubauer attended his first Yankees game at age 10 and, since June 1975 — when he would have been 16 years old — “he has attended each sport played in New York Metropolis.” If the year 1975 is accurate, meaning Neubauer skipped a whole lot of highschool for no less than one year to make this happen.

• Additionally, the Yankees performed at Shea Stadium in ’75 while Yankee Stadium was being renovated. This proves nothing; it’s simply interesting that the streak spans three house stadiums, and that its first season was in Queens earlier than moving the Bronx.

Anyone on the market in Joe’s nook? Are the Yankees going to honor him? Is there any stuff left to offer away from the Rivera tribute? Anybody out there bought a brand new job for him? He is in his early 50s, so he’s nonetheless got some prime incomes years forward. Perhaps one thing with Yankees running a blog…

Scott Diamond earns win despite extending unusual strikeout streak

(Getty Photographs)

Minnesota Twins left-hander Scott Diamond fared pretty well on Wednesday afternoon, holding the Chicago White Sox to 3 runs on 5 hits over 6 1/3 innings. That was ok to earn his sixth victory of the season, but extra importantly for Minnesota helped them keep away from a three-sport sequence sweep at the hands of Chicago with a four-3 win

It was also good enough to maneuver Diamond into some uncommon company. In accordance with Hardball Speak’s Matthew Pouliot, Diamond grew to become only the sixth pitcher this season to win a sport he began with out recording a single strikeout. The other pitchers on that record include Jeremy Guthrie, Joe Kelly, Jeff Locke, Kyle Lohse and Jake Westbrook. However, unlike these pitchers, Diamond’s outing was a lot nearer to the norm than an outlier with a constructive, although unlikely result.

Over his past seven major league starts dating back to July 1, Diamond has only struck out 5 batters total over 35 1/three innings, and never more than one batter in any single outing. Not surprisingly, Diamond has struggled over that point posting a 1-four record with a 6.37 PERIOD. However the string of starts once more puts him in rare firm, as a result of the final time a starting pitcher sustained that kind of streak for seven games or longer was 1989 when Dave Schmidt of the Baltimore Orioles did it 9 video games in a row.

Schmidt didn’t fare a lot better, going 1-7 with a 7.51 PERIOD.

Over the previous 30 years, only former Montreal Expos and San Francisco Giants left-hander Kirk Rueter, who’s profession spanned 1993-2005, has been capable of put together a good stretch when the strikeout pitch eluded him. He once had a six-sport streak of zero or one strikeout performances bridging the 2002-2003 seasons, and ended up a good three-0 with a 3.18 PERIOD over that stretch.

Basically what we’re learning based mostly on these numbers and outcomes is the strikeout is a necessary weapon if a pitcher hopes to attain quick term and long term success on the massive league level. That a lot ought to go unquestioned. Nonetheless, on a given night, it can escape a pitcher and have little influence on his overall efficiency.

So then what is the outlook for Diamond?

Well, over two big league seasons, he’s accumulated solely 136 strikeouts in 291 2/3 innings. That’s not precisely encouraging, and odds are he won’t be the pitcher to buck the strikeout trend, however it does make him a captivating pitcher to study going forward.

Costa Rica get snow game revenge, end U.S. win streak at 12 matches

Guy within the suit is excited. (Getty)

From the minute the U.S. crew landed in Costa Rica, their hosts tried to make life as difficult as doable for them. It was a want for payback that has festered in the months since Costa Rica misplaced 1-0 in an sudden Colorado snow storm the final time the 2 sides met in a World Cup qualifier. When the U.S. got off the plane on Tuesday night time, they have been greeted with chants of “USA no truthful play” and their bus was promptly egged. A cow with an airhorn interrupted U.S. manager Jurgen Klinsmann’s interviews on the training ground and when the match finally began, the Costa Rica staff picked up where the followers and random mascots left off.

The match began about as poorly because it possibly could with the important Michael Bradley having to be pulled from what ought to have been the strongest beginning XI of the Klinsmann era after injuring himself during pre-match heat-ups. As soon as the game started, Los Ticos scored twice within the first nine minutes, gorgeous a United States team that has grown assured by profitable the Gold Cup and a team file 12 straight matches.

As ugly of a start because it proved to be, it wasn’t the tip simply yet. Of their earlier match, the U.S. got here back from a horrible first half in a pleasant towards Bosnia-Herzegovina to overturn a 2-0 deficit and win four-three for their first comeback win ever on European soil. Clint Dempsey supplied an extra motive to believe when he marked his a centesimal national staff cap by changing a penalty — albeit with a poor shot and great deflection off the keeper — shortly earlier than halftime to make it 2-1.

Any makes an attempt to construct on that within the second half failed, although. Costa Rica’s Joe Campbell added the exclamation level to their win by sprinting past U.S. defender Matt Besler and making it 3-1, which might be the ultimate rating.

So the U.S. group record win streak comes to an finish at 12 matches and that is actually OKAY. They’re now second in the group, one point behind Costa Rica, and a win in their subsequent match can clinch a World Cup look if circumstances conspire the correct approach. That they had by no means gained in Costa Rica, so it was by no means going to be easy, and the closer they obtained to Spain’s world document of 15 consecutive wins, the extra the United States ran the danger of rising overconfident a 12 months out from the World Cup (which is about one hundred thirty five type cycles). The streak had to finish sometime and it might be became a optimistic if it forces the crew to sharpen their efforts forward of Tuesday’s far more important match towards Mexico in Columbus, Ohio on Tuesday.

Bradley’s rolled ankle, plus the suspensions for yellow card accumulation for Matt Besler, Geoff Cameron and Jozy Altidore are a priority, however will present a great test of the improved depth that has won praise for this staff.

Speaking of Mexico, they misplaced 2-1 to Honduras — simply their second dwelling loss in a World Cup qualifier ever. They nonetheless have not received at house in this round of the qualifying course of and now sit fourth within the CONCACAF desk, which places them in line for the inter-confederation playoff in opposition to New Zealand. Shedding after 12 straight wins is one factor, however it can always be worse.

“This feat wants national consideration. How does one see to it that this wonderful feat is recognized nationally?”

The homer streak is being acknowledged nationally now, thanks to Martin and Evans’ willingness to discuss his feats with Assessment-Journal sports columnist Ron Kantowski. Leonardo Bonucci ends streak of 12 perfect penalties to put Spain in Confederations Cup final

Spain beat Italy on penalties in a match that seemed like it would never end to reach their first Confederations Cup final. After 120 minutes of blown opportunities from both sides, the rematch of the Euro 2012 final went to a penalty shootout and all of the sudden, no one could miss. The two teams put on a flawless display of penalty kick brilliance that started with a Panenka from Italy's Antonio Candreva which had Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas sitting on his butt and watching as it floated into the net.

Eleven more excellent penalties followed. Xavi and Alberto Aquilani. Andres Iniesta and Daniele De Rossi. Gerard Pique and Sebastian Giovinco. Sergio Ramos and Andrea Pirlo. Juan Mata and Riccardo Montolivo. Sergio Busquets and…then Italy defender Leonardo Bonucci sent his attempt sailing over the crossbar (pictured above). Spain just needed to make one more to win.

[ Match photos: Spain defeats Italy on penalty kicks ]

Jesus Navas then converted Spain's seventh successful spot kick to give them the win and set up a final against host nation Brazil. For Italy, it was a far superior performance to their last meeting with Spain, in which they were dominated 4-0. But neither side could've complained much about losing since both had plenty of golden chances to score during the two hours of play that preceded the shootout. It was an exhausting and largely frustrating game for both teams and one that Brazil probably enjoyed for both of those reasons.

Here's video of the full shootout (it's very much worth watching regardless of knowing the end result)…

Once it was all over, Iker Casillas stopped to trade shirts with Gianluigi Buffon before celebrating the victory, summing up the level of admiration the two worthy adversaries have for each other.
