SAN DIEGO – Arms waving and legs churning, Arizona is racing again into the Sweet 16.

The rest of the bracket should take discover of this one. If they play like this, the Wildcats are going to be awfully robust to beat.

Overwhelming Gonzaga with its contest-everything protection, Arizona seemed very very similar to the top seed within the West, blowing out the Bulldogs 84-sixty one on Sunday to succeed in the Sweet sixteen for the third time in 4 years.

”That Arizona crew we noticed tonight was as good a team as we’ve faced, that I can keep in mind,” Gonzaga coach Mark Few stated. ”It was simply too much for us tonight.”

Coming off a shaky NCAA event opener, Arizona (32-4) ended a wild first weekend of upsets and buzzer beaters with a show of domination.

This was not the epic double-overtime recreation these teams performed within the 2003 NCAA Event. This was an eye fixed-popping display of what one of many nation’s greatest groups can do when it gets rolling.

The Wildcats overran Gonzaga (29-7) with their size, athleticism and fast palms to blow the eighth-seeded Bulldogs out of the bracket.

Turning one of school basketball’s most efficient teams on its head, Arizona scored 31 points of Gonzaga’s 21 turnovers – 15 on steals – and never gave the Zags an opportunity after racing out to a 21-level lead in the first half.

Aaron Gordon had 18 points, six rebounds and six assists for Arizona. Fellow freshman Rondae Hollis-Jefferson additionally had 18 points and Nick Johnson completed with 17.

”Tonight was certainly one of our season’s greatest performances,” Arizona coach Sean Miller stated. ”Obviously, you need to play nicely in the NCAA match and that is exactly what our staff did tonight.”

Gonzaga has relied on its capacity to regulate the game and take care of the ball during a run of 16 straight NCAA event appearances.

Arizona’s pressure ran the Zags ragged, leaving them trailing the Wildcats as they raced off to at least one layup after one other.

Przemek Karnowski scored 14 points and Kevin Pangos added 12 for Gonzaga, which hasn’t reached the Candy sixteen since 2009.

”We did not do ourselves any favors,” said Pangos, who saved enjoying after turning his ankle early in the sport. ”We allow them to feel pretty good about themselves. But they’re a very good team and they did pace it up slightly bit.”

Arizona was jittery in its opener against Weber State, starting sluggish and permitting the Wildcats from Utah to claw their way back from a 21-point deficit within the second half to make it shut.

The first-sport nervousness out of their system, the Wildcats played with confidence and plenty of power towards Gonzaga, sprinting up the ground after steals and defensive rebounds to set up simple shots in transition.

Arizona made it look simple at times, dropping off passes for layups, flying in for alley-oops and recognizing up for 3-tips on the break.

It was so good even Gordon, whose outdoors shot has been questioned, dropped in a 3-pointer. For good measure, he went in for what appears to develop into his signature move on the break, soaring up for a reverse dunk on an alley-oop from Johnson to put Arizona up 38-20.

Gonzaga shot nicely against one of many nation’s best defenses – when it could get pictures off.

The Bulldogs struggled with Arizona’s they’re-all over the place defense, enjoying catch-up on the break because the Wildcats snared passes and stripped dribblers for eight steals within the first half. Gonzaga had eleven turnovers that Arizona become 19 factors for a 47-34 halftime lead that may have been extra if the Bulldogs didn’t make a late run.

Arizona had one turnover and 13 assists on its 17 discipline goals – 34 attempts – with Gordon and Hollis-Jefferson combining to hit 8 of 9 pictures whereas scoring 12 factors every.

”What we did as we speak was push the tempo,” Gordon stated. ”We seen they weren’t getting again as well as they need to and we simply kept that going all through the sport.”

The second half began like this: two possessions by Gonzaga, two turnovers.

Arizona kept the present going from there.

Johnson had the defensive spotlight of the half, tracking down David Stockton to block what appeared to be a breakaway layup and the ball went off a Gonzaga player, besides. The offensive reel was highlighted by Gordon, who soared in for a rebound slam over two Gonzaga gamers.

No probability for the Bulldogs and, if Arizona retains taking part in like this, not much of one for anyone else.

Did Ryan Leaf Sabotage?

Did Ryan tea leaf sabotage the Colts in to drafting Peyton Manning?

(USATSI)Did Ryan Leaf sabotage the Colts into drafting Peyton Manning? (USATSI)
previous Chargers quarterback Ryan leaf has made a lot of bad choices in his life – if you need proof, just click here, here or even here – and now everybody in Indianapolis should be thankful for at least one of those bad choices. According to a new book simply by former NFL agent Leigh Steinberg, Leaf sabotaged the particular 1998 NFL Draft procedure so that the Colts wouldn't write him. That's right Indy, Ryan tea leaf didn't want any part of your city. According to Steinberg, Leaf purposely skipped out on a meeting with then-Colts trainer Jim Mora so that indiana wouldn't draft him.

— Andy Gray (@si_vault) April twenty five, 2013

According to Steinberg, Leaf was the frontrunner to go No. one overall to Indy, yet Leaf wanted to go to San Diego at No. 2. At that point Steinberg hatched a plan for tea leaf to skip the meeting with Mora, which you can read about beneath in an excerpt from their book,

The real estate agent

(Excerpt via For the Win). According to Steinberg, previous Chargers general manager Bobby Beathard also knew about the plan.

“No way do I want to play in indiana, ” he told me, referring to the Colts, who possessed the No. 1 choose. Instead, because of the exceptional climate and the more laid-back way of life, he preferred the San Diego Chargers, who would go 2nd.

“That's fine, ” I warned him, “but the way to achieve this is not precisely going to help your picture. You'll get a lot of criticism. ” Ryan didn't care about their image, though, only their destination.

Making their wish come true would not become easy. The Colts bent toward choosing Ryan. numerous scouts also saw your pet as a better prospect compared to Peyton Manning. Hard to believe right now, isn't it?

we told Ryan it would perform no good to approach arme GM Jim Irsay. Irsay saw the sport the same way this individual viewed his other enthusiasm, rock 'n' roll. Just as musicians tended to be a bit odd, so did football gamers, and that did not stop your pet from drafting Jeff George or trading for joshua Dickerson. “Leigh, ” this individual used to say, “it's about the freaking talent. ” If someone is that gifted, in Irsay's opinion, you simply find a way to deal with his personality. rather, the case needed to be made to the particular Indianapolis coach,

rick Mora, and it couldn't come from anything Ryan said. It had to come from what this individual did, or, rather, did not do. “If you go to the combine, ” we told Ryan, “but fail to show up for a meeting with tardanza, that should do it. Jim is a real prideful person who has a tendency to increase. I am not recommending you do this, but if you are desperate to go to San Diego, this is the way. ”

Ryan approved, but we first cleared the idea along with Chargers general manager Bobby Beathard, lest San Diego furthermore question my client's dependability. Beathard went along with the trick. If he'd had an issue, Ryan would've shown up for his meeting with Mora. The ploy worked and the Colts ended up taking Peyton Manning No. 1 general instead of Leaf. If Steinberg's story is true, then the individuals of Indianapolis might want to build a Leigh Steinberg statue.

However, it should be noted that former Colts common manager Bill Polian conflicts Steinberg's account. During an interview withMike plus Mikeon wednesday, Polian confirmed that tea leaf skipped a meeting, but he is not buying the part exactly where Steinberg purposely hatched a plan so that Leaf would fall to the Chargers.

"Agents cannot change anything in the draft, inch Polian said, via ProFootballTalk. "Leigh and other agents for years and years have informed kids that they can get gamers drafted by a certain golf club at a certain spot, and nothing could be further from the truth. that will assumes that we on the golf club side are idiots, that will we're able to be manipulated, that we don't do our research, that we don't watch the particular tape, that we don't proceed all the way back to the younger high school coach and high school principal, teachers, doing our own due diligence. It's just the kind of hubris that existed amongst agents years ago where these people told kids flat-out, 'I can get you taken here, I can get you taken there. ' Nothing could be further from the truth. " Beathard, the former Chargers common manager, said on wednesday that he knew nothing about the events described by Steinberg. According to Beathard, the story does not even really make sense because the Chargers wanted to take Manning over Leaf.

"We absolutely wanted to draft Peyton, " Beathard said "I knew ArchieOlivia [Manning], I knew the family. And that's who we desired. I had seen both quarterbacks personally. I had some bookings about Ryan. " In the end, every thing worked out for everyone involved. Except for Beathard, and the Chargers, plus Leaf, and former San Diego coach Mike Riley who was stuck with Leaf as a beginning quarterback for 18 online games over two seasons.

NFL Prediction Playoff Game Preview/Pick- San Diego vs. Denver

nfl pick chargers vs broncos

San Diego Chargers (9-7, 4-4 away) @ Denver Broncos (13-3, 7-1 home) 01/12- 4:40PM EST

Line: DEN -9.0

Over/Under: 54.5

The San Diego Chargers will travel into the Mile High city on Sunday evening feeling pretty good about themselves after last week’s road win and going against a Broncos team they defeated earlier on the road as well.

The Chargers (10-7) beat Denver 27-20 back on December 12 behind running back Ryan Mathews 127 rushing yards and holding the high-powered offense of the Broncos to their season-low in points. Denver had outscored their opponents by an average of 20.4 points a game winning seven in a row at home before their loss to the Chargers.

Beating them again may prove to a tougher challenge with the Broncos being healthier this time around.

It’s tough to say you’re confident knowing what you’re going against. You don’t wan to take that the wrong way,” San Diego Pro Bowl safety Eric Weddle said.

“….. We have been the underdog all year. We are out to continue to believe in ourselves.”

Denver (12-4) averaged a whopping 37.9 points per game during the season and were held to under 30 points in only three games, but two of those came at the hands of the Chargers… a 28-20 win and 27-20 loss.

It taught us a lesson,” tight end Jacob Tamme said of last month’s loss. “We did kind of reboot after that and yes, I think we know that we need to play our best ball going forward and that’s what we are planning on doing.”

This Sunday’s game will mark a year since the Broncos lost to eventual Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens 38-35 in double overtime, a game that the Ravens had tied with just 31 clicks on the clock.

You don’t harp on the first time you fell off your bike, but you remember falling off and you know you don’t want to do it again,” tight end Julius Thomas said.

San Diego is hot having won their last four regular-season games and then last week’s wild-card win at Cincinnati, despite Philip Rivers completing 12 of 16 for a season-low 128 with one touchdown and no turnovers, but he will need a better game if they want to leave Denver with a win.

Going on the road in a playoff game is not going to be easy, regardless of who you’re playing,” San Diego coach Mike McCoy said.

The Chargers will try to keep their running game going were last week they ran wild on the Bengals accounting for a season-high 196 yards and are averaging 170.2 yards during their five-game winning streak. San Diego is 10-2 when they run for better than 102 yards a game and are 0-5 when they fail to reach that mark, but their top rushing producer Mathew is questionable for Sunday’s contest after suffering an ankle injury.

As for the Broncos… what more can we say about the year Peyton Manning has had setting an NFL-record for a single-season with 5,477 passing yards and 55 passes for paydirt, and will have his full core of receivers available to target including Wes Walker who’s been out action with a concussion he suffered back on Dec 8 against Tennessee. Walker still finished in the league with 18 receptions in the red zone.

Wes brings a lot to this offense and we’re excited to have him back,” said teammate Demaryius Thomas, who finished second in the NFL with 14 touchdown receptions.

Manning has lost his last three postseason games to the Chargers and is 4-6 overall, but this is a different Denver team and the oddsmakers have made the home Broncos a big (minus -9.0) point favorite on Sunday, but get the latest odds up until game time right here at Wonder Punter.

Philip Rivers has a 99.1 QB rating and is 6-2 all-time in Denver and will be looking for another week of magic to help his advance.

They’re a No. 1 seed for a reason. This is a heck of a team and it’s rare to play an opponent three times in a season and being a division opponent, one we know well, they know us well. It’s going to be awesome,” said Rivers.

Do the underdog Chargers have what it takes to win another big game on the road against a healthy Denver Broncos team? Too many weapons I say, prediction… Broncos to advance to next week’s AFC championship game.

Prediction/Pick: Denver Broncos

By Mario Martinez- Wonder Punter

Mathews hoping to play against Broncos

"I'm not making predictions because I don't know where it stands honestly right now, " Rivers said. "But he's going to do all he can to play, to give himself the best chance to play four quarters. You just never know how things are going to play out. But Danny [Woodhead] and Ronnie [Brown] are ready if they're needed more than usual. "

The Chargers got better news on center Nick Hardwick, who cleared the NFL's concussion protocol and practiced as a limited participant Friday. He is listed as questionable for Sunday.

Hardwick is the only San Diego offensive lineman to start every game this season. If he can't play, Rich Ohrnberger would replace him in the lineup.

Right guard Jeromey Clary did not practice for a second straight day due to a shoulder issue and is listed as questionable. If Clary can't play, Johnnie Troutman would get the nod at right guard.

Aztecs end Jayhawks’ home winning streak

San Diego State Edges Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. – It was so loud inside Allen Fieldhouse that San Diego State's gamers might barely hear what coach Steve Fisher was saying, yet they knew what the message could be because the timeout ended.

No matter the scenario, it's always the identical.

"He just tells you to assume something constructive, whether or not it is basketball, family, whatever. Assume something positive," Xavier Thames stated. "I think that actually helps."

It positive appeared to settle down the Aztecs.

Thames scored sixteen factors, and calmly made 4 straight free throws in the closing seconds Sunday, helping No. 21 San Diego State knock off No. 16 Kansas sixty one-57, ending the Jayhawks' sixty eight-game nonconference winning streak at their venerable on-campus arena.

Skylar Spencer added thirteen factors and Josh Davis had 10 for the Aztecs (12-1), who have received eleven straight since shedding to No. 1 Arizona on Nov. 14. That streak is tied for the second-greatest at school historical past, trailing solely the 20-0 start of the 2010-11 workforce.

"Our coach by no means will get rattled," San Diego State ahead Winston Shepard stated. "He's always even keeled, whether we're up 20 or it is a shut game in here. After each timeout, he tell us to take a superb thought out there."

Think blissful ideas? Why didn't those other sixty eight groups strive that at the Phog?

Kansas (9-4) nonetheless had a chance to tie the game when Perry Ellis went to the free throw line with eleven.9 seconds left. He made his first free throw however, after San Diego State known as a timeout to ice him, Ellis missed the second and the Jayhawks had been forced to foul.

Thames made both free throws to offer San Diego State a 3-level lead, and the Aztecs fouled reasonably than enable Kansas to try a tying three. Frank Mason missed the first and made the second, and Thames made two extra free throws with 4.6 seconds left to seal the win.

"It is a great win for us," Thames mentioned. "Quite a lot of teams don't come in right here and get victories. I'm simply blessed to be a part of this one."

Andrew Wiggins and Mason scored 14 points apiece for the Jayhawks, who had gained 112 of their final 114 video games at Allen Fieldhouse. Joel Embiid completed with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

The Jayhawks struggled towards the long, lanky Aztecs proper from the start, lacking eight of their first nine pictures and permitting San Diego State to dictate the tempo.

After a three-pointer by Naadir Tharpe gave Kansas a 9-eight lead, the Jayhawks had just one more subject aim over the subsequent eight-plus minutes. Thames and Davis had no such hassle for San Diego State, hitting a series of jumpers and contested layups because the Aztecs built a 29-23 halftime lead.

Kansas wound up taking pictures 20.7 p.c (6 of 29) within the first half.

"I think all people, we all missed pictures we normally make," Wiggins said, "and that's going to occur occasionally with a young staff."

The Aztecs kept up the depth in the second half, forcing the Jayhawks to misfire on eight of their first 10 shots with their in-your-face, man-to-man defense. The lead slowly grew to 44-33 when JJ O'Brien transformed after two misses, once extra silencing a packed home.

The Jayhawks finally began to construct some momentum midway by way of the second half, closing inside fifty eight-fifty six on a basket by Wiggins and 50-forty eight on Tharpe's scooping layup.

It appeared as if each time Kansas went on a run, although, the Aztecs had a solution.

Spencer scored after Tharpe's basket, and Thames curled in a 3-pointer to offer San Diego State a fifty five-48 lead with 3 minutes to play. Kansas made another salvo, getting inside 57-55 on a three-pointer by Mason and seemingly getting the ball back after O'Brien missed a free throw.

Throughout a stoppage in play, the officers determined that the ball went off Kansas with forty four.8 seconds left. And regardless that the Jayhawks got a stop, it price them valuable time.

Kansas coach Invoice Self known as a timeout with 20 seconds left and determined to go with Ellis, the positive-handed sophomore. He drove to the basket and was fouled, but the 72 percent free throw shooter may only make the first of his two attempts, and San Diego State finally held on to win.

"Each play we made, it seemed like they came down, they got something positive out of the subsequent possession," Mason mentioned. "Whether it was free throws or a made basket, we simply couldn't get the stops we would have liked."

NFL Prediction Wild Card Game Preview/Pick- San Diego vs. Cincinnati

nfl picks and prediction

San Diego Chargers (9-7, 4-4 away) @ Cincinnati Bengals (11-5, 8-0 home) 01/05- 1:05PM EST

Line: CIN -6.5

Over/Under: 45.5

On Sunday afternoon, the Cincinnati Bengals will be in search of their first playoff win in 23 long years as they take on the San Diego Chargers, a team that has not tasted the postseason in three years.

The AFC North champion Bengals (11-5) like their chances to notch their first playoff victory in moons as they are a perfect 8-0 at home, but the Chargers (9-7) have to feel good about their chances as well as they are also a team that has gotten hot at the right time.

San Diego won their last four regular-season games to finish third in the AFC West with the likes of the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs ahead of them… but with even with their third-place finish, the stars lined up to allow them to earn a wild-card berth.

It’s been a real long time so it feel great to be back in,” said Chargers quarterback David Rivers, who lead all quarterbacks in the NFL in completion percentage with a career-best 69.5 percent.

The Chargers were a staple in the playoffs between 2006-09 winning the AFC West under Rivers, but finished second in the years after to miss the postseason.

Cincinnati will making their fourth playoff appearance in five years and third in a row with quarterback Andy Dalton at the helm, but a loss on Sunday would extend their postseason drought to 24 years. The last two years, it’s been the Houston Texans who have knocked them out of any Super Bowl run.

Dalton had a good year touchdown wise finishing with 33 passes for paydirt, but it’s the picks he needs to improve on quick if they want to advance come Sunday. Dalton threw a career-worst four interceptions last week in their regular season-finale win over the Baltimore Ravens 34-17, and in his last two postseason games threw four interceptions with no touchdowns and was sacked six times.

People can say whatever they want because we haven’t won a playoff game,” Dalton said. “You’ve got to win. That’s what it comes down to. And for us to get where we want to go, we need to win. That’s the way it works. For me, we need to get a win in this one.”

Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis is 0-4 in 11 seasons come playoff time and had this response…

We’ve just got to go play,” he said. “We’re not going to get any of you to shut up about it until we win.”

On the other sideline is first-year coach of the Chargers Mike McCoy, who feels his team has played with their backs up against the wall all season.

We’ve been on a playoff run for the last month really, to be honest with you,” McCoy said. “We were 5-7 and no one gave us a chance.”

Sunday’s wild-card matchup will be a rematch from Cincinnati’s 17-10 victory at San Diego back on December 1, a game in which the Chargers committed three turnovers and were held to their lowest point total of the season. After that game, McCoy said the Chargers ‘owed the Bengals,’ along with many players shouting the famed Bengals chant ‘Who Dey.’ A clip Marvin Lewis showed his Cincinnati team to give them extra incentive on Sunday.

The Bengals have been stellar at home where they have accumulated 24 sacks while limiting opposing quarterbacks to a 60.6 passer rating with nine touchdowns to 15 interceptions.

And, if they wasn’t enough to contend with, the warm-weather Chargers will have to deal with the elements where game time temperatures will be freezing and close to zero with the wind-chill.

Throw that all in and we can see why the oddsmakers have made the Bengals a (minus -6.5) point favorite at home, but get the latest spread on the game up until kickoff right here at Wonder Punter.

Yes, the Chargers are hot going in, but it will too much to overcome the way the Bengals play at home coupled with harsh weather conditions and predict Cincinnati ending their 23-year postseason success drought to advance to the next round.

They have to come here to ‘The Jungle’ and deal with our weather and our fans,” defensive end Wallace Gilberry said. “We’ll see if we get the best out of them.”

Jeff Triplette is the Referee For Chargers-Bengals, How Did He Get a Playoff Game?

jeff triplette referee stinks

Jeff Triplette was one of the worst referees in the NFL this year, and found himself embroiled in controversy 3 times in December. First, his crew botched a name late in a detailed Redskins/Giants game; then he badly blew this call in a Cincinnati Bengals game; in the Seahawks/Rams season finale, his crew misplaced management of the sport very early.

And who can overlook him angrily screaming at Clay Matthews in 2012? And the flag he by chance threw into the facemask of Orlando Brown, briefly blinding him?

Well, here’s some information that may make Marvin Lewis and Mike McCoy cringe: Triplette and his crew will referee the San Diego-Cincinnati Wild Card game Sunday, the NFL announced.

The Chargers are 7.5 point underdogs, but it surely needs to be noted San Diego solely misplaced twice by greater than a landing (28-20 at home in opposition to Denver; 27-17 in Oakland in early October) this season. And if anyone tells you that the climate can be an element as a result of the Chargers play within the heat climate and it’ll be in the 30’s with rain or snow … the Chargers gained in Kansas Metropolis and Denver in colder temperatures not too long ago.

NFL admits error on Chiefs FG miss vs. Chargers

There was a crucial play within the Chiefs-Chargers game on Sunday afternoon that saved the Bolts' skin and ended up helping them get in the playoffs. I highlighted the difficulty on this week's Sorting the Sunday Pile and Ryan Wilson went into extra detail Monday morning, however the gist is this: San Diego should've been flagged for overloading the line on Ryan Succop's try at a game-successful kick.

On Monday, the NFL admitted that a mistake was made by the officers.

Bill Leavy's crew ought to've flagged the Chargers for having seven gamers on one side of the snapper during Succop's last regulation area objective attempt. (See: above.)

"This could've been penalized as an illegal formation," the NFL said.

The Chargers should've been flagged and obtained a 5-yard penalty, setting up Succop for another try at the successful discipline goal from 36 yards.

A made kick there adjustments the trajectory of the playoffs, as the Chiefs beating San Diego would've put the Steelers in the playoffs as a wild card as a substitute of the Chargers.

In fact, as Ryan identified Monday, Pittsburgh might've crushed the Raiders, Vikings or Titans throughout the regular season instead. Then they wouldn't have had to fear about whether or not Succop made the kick.

A missed field aim attempt in San Diego might have in the end cost the Pittsburgh Steelers a trip to the playoffs, but a missed call might have been the real distinction.

Kansas Metropolis kicker Ryan Succop missed a 41-yard area objective try with four seconds remaining in regulation Sunday that might have won the sport for the visiting Chiefs. Nonetheless, Professional Football Discuss, citing a league source, reported Sunday evening that the NFL thinks the Chargers ought to have been penalized on the play.

Kansas City's Ryan Succop

Ryan Succop's missed forty one-yard field aim strive against the Chargers should have been retaken, and from 5 yards closer, but the refs missed a name, Professional Football Discuss reported Sunday night time.

Based mostly on a new rule this season, San Diego would have been penalized for an illegal formation when the ball was snapped.

The rule (Rule 9, Section 1, Article three) is in relation to the overloading of one side of the formation when defending a discipline aim. The Chargers had been shown on replays to have seven gamers on one aspect of the snapper; the rule dictates you can have not more than six in such a position.

Had the penalty been known as correctly, the Chiefs would have acquired a second likelihood at profitable the game in regulation with a field goal strive from 5 yards closer. Instead, the sport went to overtime and the Chargers pulled out a 27-24 victory.

If the Chiefs had gained, the Chargers would have been eliminated from postseason contention while the Steelers would have grabbed the sixth and closing playoff spot within the AFC.

As an alternative, the Chargers will go to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday in a wild-card game.

NFL Free Pick and Prediction for BAL vs CIN

On Sunday afternoon, the Baltimore Ravens will travel into Cincinnati fighting for their playoff lives in hopes of earning the final AFC wildcard spot playing against the Bengals.

There are a couple of scenarios, but the easiest path for the defending Super Bowl champions is to simply hand the AFC North champion their first home loss of the 2013 season and hope for a loss by either San Diego or Miami.

The Ravens (8-7) will also earn a postseason spot if San Diego, Miami and Pittsburgh all lose, regardless of how they fare against the Bengals, but if the Ravens, Dolphins and Chargers all win… Miami will get the wildcard nod.

But, with a shot for a first-round-bye for the Bengals if they win, coupled with a New England loss to Buffalo, don’t expect them to roll over and let it be easy for the Ravens to take it.

We’re used to these guys,” Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco said. “They’re a good defense. They have been for a few years now. It’s always a good test to play a division opponent in their place. They have a lot to play for. We have a lot to play for. It’s going to be a good game, a good test.”

The Bengals (10-5) will claim the No. 2 seed in the AFC if somehow the Bills upset the Patriots on the road.

We want to defend home and make sure we win,” said Bengals cornerback Pacman Jones. “If it was my choice, I don’t want Baltimore to make it. We’ve got to make sure we defend the house and play all four quarters.”

Baltimore suffered a 41-7 blowout home loss to the Patriots last Sunday and with a banged-up quarterback, they will need a better performance from everyone come Sunday.

Flacco has been battling a left knee injury he suffered against the Lions back on December 16 and has been wearing a knee brace which he has said the injury has no impact on his performance. He will be wearing the knee brace once again on Sunday.

I’m going to do it the same way,” Flacco said. I really just want to make sure I can be as safe as I can moving forward so nothing crazy happens. I’m pretty comfortable with it. It’s not ideal, but it is what it is and it’s not that big of an issue.”

The bigger hurdle facing the Ravens is their road performance where they are only 2-5 and must face a Bengals team that is undefeated at home with a 7-0 mark. And with Cincinnati averaging 43.5 points over their last four home games, Baltimore will definitely have their work cut out for them.

It’s safe to say the Bengals offense is clicking right now as Andy Dalton and wide receiver A.J. Green are both in position to set single-season franchise yardage records this week.

Dalton needs 117 passing yards to pass Carson Palmer’s 2007 mark of 4,131 and Green needs 76 receiving yards to break Chad Johnson’s record of 1,440 set in the same season.

The goals are good, but we’re fighting for a bigger picture,” Green said. “When I’m done with this game, maybe it will (mean something), but right now I’m trying to continue to get better.”

Dalton will be in line for another record with touchdowns on Sunday as he has 31 and with two more tosses to the end zone can establish a single-season record breaking Palmer’s 32 set back in 2005.

It shows what we’ve been able to accomplish this year. I think that only happens if we’ve been winning games and doing some good things,” Dalton said. “Personally, it’s cool to be close to those records, but like you said, wins are what ultimately matters.”

Scoring touchdowns is something that has eluded the Ravens offense in the last two games as they have scored only one touchdown in their past eight quarters, but coach John Harbaugh has complete faith his team will bounce back as they are 4-0 in games following losses of 20 or more points.

I think it’s part of who we are,” Harbaugh said. “If you’ve been watching us all year, you would know that. You would understand that about us. It’s a one-game season as far we’re concerned.”

Points will be at a premium for the Ravens who will going up against a Cincinnati team that is ranked sixth in both the pass and run, which is why oddsmakers have made the Bengals a (minus -6.5) point favorite on Sunday, but get the latest spread on the game(s) up until kickoff right here at Wonder Punter.

The Bengals have also won four straight at home against the Ravens, and see no reason why they can’t extend it to five in a row… too much offense and a solid defense.

Baltimore beat the Bengals 20-17 back on November 10 at home.

NCAA Prediction and Free Pick Bulls vs. Aztecs

Buffalo Bulls (8-4) vs. San Diego State Aztecs (7-5) 12/21- 5:30PM EST

Line: EVEN

Over/Under: 53.0

The San Diego State Aztecs will make their school-record fourth consecutive bow appearance when they meet the Buffalo Bulls in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Saturday evening.

The Aztecs (7-5) overcame a brutal 0-3 to put themselves in a position to continue building its football program under the guidance of third-year coach Rocky Long, who has maintained the programs success following predecessor Brady Hoke.

I think the team is happy and excited about going to a bowl game,” Long said.

With its fourth straight bowl game, the Aztecs have matched their total bowl appearances over the last 41 years combined and are the first team since 2010 to make it to a bowl game following an 0-3 start.

San Diego State will look to junior running back Adam Muema to carry the load as he has gained over a 1,000 yards for the second straight season, but has struggled in his last two games with only 57 yards on 36 carries.

(The lack of success) has nothing to do with Adam Muema,” Long insisted. “It has to do with our offensive line not blocking very well for the run in the last two games. But all good running backs that have a good game have to have someone open a hole for them up front.”

Senior safety Nat Berhe, a first-team all-Mountain West selection anchors the San Diego State defense that finished second to Fresno State in the conference. Berhe recorded team-highs of 59 solo tackles and 94 overall and added six passes defended with two fumble recoveries.

Buffalo (8-4) will be making its second straight bowl appearance in school history and like the Aztecs had to overcome a rough start of the season with losses to BCS-bound Ohio State and Baylor by a combined 110-33 margin.

The Bulls then turned it on with a seven-game win streak that ended when they lost their regular-season finale 24-7 to Mid-American champion Bowling Green on November 29th.

It’s been four years in the making,” coach Jeff Quinn said about his team’s bowl berth.

Expect Buffalo to use a ground attack as well, behind senior star running back Brandon Oliver, a two-time 1,000 yard rusher who has accumulated 1,421 yards with 15 touchdowns this season.

The oddsmakers have the game EVEN with Ohio State having been the common opponent for both teams. The Aztecs lost to the Buckeyes 42-7 at Ohio State, while the Bulls loss to Ohio State was much closer according to Aztec quarterback Quinn Kaehler… “I remember Buffalo played Ohio State pretty tough, a lot tougher then we did, so they have some good players on that team and especially on defense,” said Kaehler.

With a pick-em game, expect the line to maybe move, so be up to date with the latest spread right here at Wonder Punter up until game time.

This will Buffalo’s second bowl appearance since a loss to Connecticut in the 2009 international Bowl.

I too have it as an evenly matched game, but I expect both teams to play hard and with pride, but in the end will predict the Aztecs winning to take home the trophy.

NFL Free Pick and Prediction, Lines & Odds Chargers vs. Broncos

San Diego Chargers (6-7) @ Denver Broncos (11-2) 12/12- 8:25PM EST

Line: DEN -10.0

Over/Under: 55.5

The San Diego Chargers, who’s slim playoff hopes hang in the balance will have their hands full on Thursday night trying to contain a Denver Broncos team that is putting up big numbers in recent weeks.

Denver (11-2) already in the driver’s seat in the AFC West after clinching a playoff spot look to continue their offensive surge where their 1,086 offensive yards in the last two weeks has been their best two-game stretch of the late season, with no signs of letting up.

The Peyton Manning lead offense put up a season-high 551 yards against a respectable Tennessee Titans defense in last Sunday’s 51-28 win and securing a playoff spot going into Week 15 doesn’t change the teams mindset.

I guess you have some security but our job is not finished- winning this division is number one and winning this conference is number two,” wide receiver Eric Decker said. “And we have to make sure that we get better as team as a whole. We have a big goal and expectations for this year and that’s just one week at a time and grinding away.”

Manning has been on fire the last two weeks throwing for 800 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions and his 39 completions against Tennessee set a team record. Manning has 45 touchdowns on the season, which is five shy of matching Tom Brady’s single-season set back in the 2007 season.

It’s safe to say Manning will recapture his record this season that he originally set with 49 back with the Colts in 2004, but he may be without one his top targets, Wes Walker, who suffered his second concussion in the last four games.

Welker is listed as doubtful, but with plenty of weapons at his disposal, who now have four players with at least 10 touchdowns (an NFL record), don’t expect the Broncos to miss a beat the rest of the way.

Tight end Julius Thomas (11 TDs) says… “All year, we’ve been talking about how dynamic our entire offense is. There are guys that maybe hadn’t been getting as many touches in the beginning of the season. Now, they’re going out there and they’re showing everybody what they can do.”

So, with a hot offense that now seems to be hitting on all cylinders, the Chargers (6-7) realize the task on-hand in Mile High and understand they must play error-free the rest of the way to have any chance for postseason play.

I can’t wait,” linebacker Jarrett Johnson said. “It’s going to be a great challenge. As a competitor and an athlete in the NFL, these are the opportunities you want. We worked ourselves into a hole and we have to depend on other people, but the only thing we’re focusing on is what we can control, and right now that’s Denver.”

And focused they better be, as the oddsmakers have made the Broncos a big (minus) -10.0 favorite at home. Get the latest lines here at Wonder Punter up until kick off.

Despite the spread, the Chargers are feeling good and confidence is high after their big 23-point win over the Giants and hope to continue in the right direction.

That is one of our better all-around games,” Chargers coach Mike McCoy said.

The Broncos enter Thursday night having defeated the Chargers four-straight times, including a 28-20 win back in San Diego on November 10 and predict another win for the Broncos over the Chargers.

Too much Broncos offense.

Michigan State, Arizona 1-2 in AP hoops poll

Indiana To Try To Crack Syracuse Zone

Michigan State stays No. 1 for a third straight week in The Associated Press’ Top 25 poll, receiving all but two of the first-place votes.

Arizona moved from fourth to second Monday, drawing the other No. 1 votes from the 65-member national media panel.

Kentucky remains third, while Syracuse jumps from eighth to fourth. Ohio State moves up two spots to fifth and is followed by Kansas, which had been second.

Completing the top 10 are Louisville, Wisconsin, Oklahoma State and Duke.

Memphis and Syracuse used wins in holiday tournaments to make the week’s biggest moves in the Top 25.

The Tigers won the Old Spice Classic, beating then-No. 5 Oklahoma State 73-68 in the championship game to move from 21st to No. 16. It was an impressive win, considering Memphis lost 101-80 at Oklahoma State two weeks earlier.

Syracuse beat Minnesota, California and then-No. 18 Baylor to win the Maui Invitational. The Orange moved from No. 8 to fourth with the three wins.

The Blue Devils dropped four spots after losing to Arizona in the NIT Season Tip-Off.

Villanova beat Kansas and Iowa to win the Battle 4 Atlantis and enters the poll at No. 14.

Gonzaga, which lost Dayton in the opening round at the Maui Invitational before beating Chaminade and Arkansas in the consolation bracket, had the week’s biggest fall from 11th to No. 19.

The Atlantic 10 has two teams in the rankings as No. 25 Dayton joined No. 21 UMass. Dayton finished third at the Maui Invitational by beating then-No. 11 Gonzaga in the opening round, losing to Baylor in the semifinals when a last-second shot didn’t fall, and beating California for third place. The Flyers’ last appearance in the Top 25 was the first two weeks of 2009-10.

The other newcomer is No. 24 San Diego State, which earned wins over Creighton and Marquette en route to the championship run of the Wooden Legacy. The Aztecs were ranked in 12 of the first 13 weeks last season.

Three teams dropped out of the poll this week, with North Carolina’s fall from No. 16 the biggest exit after a 63-59 loss to UAB on Sunday.

The Tar Heels were 12th in the preseason poll and the first poll of the regular season. Their home loss to Belmont dropped them to No. 24. North Carolina turned that drop around the next week when the upset of then-No. 3 Louisville moved it to No. 16.

The others to fall from the ranks of the ranked this week were Big East members who both lost two games. Creighton fell from 20th after losses to San Diego State and George Washington in the Wooden Legacy. Marquette dropped from No. 25 after losing at Arizona State and to San Diego State in the Wooden Legacy.

There were no changes at the top of the conference race in the Top 25 with the Big Ten still having five teams, followed by the Big 12 with four.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

NFL Prediction Preview & Pick- Cincinnati vs. San Diego Week 13 Sunday Game

NFL Pick Bengals vs. Chargers

Cincinnati Bengals (7-4) @ San Diego Chargers (5-6) 12/01- 4:45PM EST

Line: EVEN

Over/Under: 48.5

Despite San Diego’s record at 5-6, they are coming off a big win last Sunday at Kansas City and looking to stay in the hunt for a wild-card spot with a win over the AFC North leading Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday afternoon.

The Bengals (7-4) are coming off a late-season bye week and begin a five-game stretch as they seek an AFC North title and to make some noise come playoff time.

But, in order to do that they must improve upon their dismal road record of 2-4 which is tied for worse with the Dallas Cowboys for teams with a .500 record or better.

They have lost their last two road games at Miami and at Baltimore and if they lose Sunday will be in trouble as the Ravens will only be one-game back for the division lead after winning on Thanksgiving night against Pittsburgh.

A win would give the Bengals some cushion with a two-game lead with four to play with only one remaining road game against the Steelers.

We have five games to really make a run and put our name out there, wide receiver Marvin Jones said. “The bye week was a big help. I’ve never had a late bye week like that. We’re ready to make this last push and go for it all.”

For that late push to be successful, the Bengals must improve their offense where they have been held below 270 total yards in three straight games and quarterback Andy Dalton must improve his accuracy where he has thrown eight picks in that same span.

Everybody throws interceptions from time to time,” offensive coordinator Jay Gruden said. “If you’re going to play quarterback, you’re going to throw an interception from time to time. You can’t dwell on it, you’ve got to move on and figure out a way to win the game.

But obviously eight interceptions in three weeks is too many.”

Dalton is tied for third in the NFL with 15 interceptions… but is one of six quarterbacks in the league with over 20 touchdowns passes at 21.

Another 93-yard passing performance with a 47.4 percent completion percentage as he did against the Browns two weeks ago will may not get it done again on the road this Sunday. Dalton was at 64.8 percent through his first nine games.

The Chargers I feel have been a better football team all year long then their record indicates and with four of their last five games at home can make a move to strengthen their position for a wild-card spot.

Trouble is they are only 5-7 at home since the start of the 2012 season…. that must change quick if they wish to be part of any post-season games.

Maybe their big road win last week at Kansas City can get give them the boost they need the rest of the way?

It’s the kind of win that can save the season,” Rivers said. “That doesn’t meant it saved it, but it certainly can keep it alive.”

The offense has been descent all year, but the defense is an AFC-worst 389.5 yards per game allowed and they rank 27th in the NFL yielding 29.0 points per contest in their last four games.

So with both football teams having some problems, they oddsmakers have made the line leading up to kickoff EVEN, but may change, so be sure to check the latest spread here through Wonder Punter up until kickoff.

Cincinnati has won the last two meetings over the Philip Rivers’ led Chargers, but I think San Diego will do enough on Sunday to win in a close one.

PICK: San Diego

Panthers at Dolphins: picks , prediction

Nov 18, 2013; Charlotte, NC, USA; Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (1) reacts with the fans after the game. The Panthers defeated the Patriots 24-20 at Financial institution of America Stadium. Necessary Credit: Bob Donnan-USA AT PRESENT Sports activities

The 7-three Carolina Panthers will attempt to increase their winning streak to seven video games when they journey to Miami to take on the 5-5 Dolphins Sunday.

The Dolphins, who’ve been at the middle of a media firestorm since offensive deal with Jonathan Martin left the staff and guard Richie Incognito was suspended, remain in the thick of the playoff race within the AFC after earning a 20-16 win over the San Diego Chargers last week.

The Panthers are a recreation behind the New Orleans Saints in the NFC South and their 24-20 victory over the New England Patriots Monday evening really moved the Dolphins to inside two games of first place within the AFC East.

Quarterback Cam Newton, who is creating into the most effective quarterbacks within the league, will go up against a Dolphins’ defense that has struggled at occasions. Newton has completed 189-of-299 passes for 2,179 yards with sixteen touchdowns and eight interceptions. He’s additionally rushed for 328 yards and 4 touchdowns.

The Dolphins have been particularly unhealthy in opposition to the run as of late, so expect the Panthers, who now have three healthy (nicely, for essentially the most half) backs to look to use that weak point.

The Panthers’ defense has became probably the greatest units in the league, rating fifth in opposition to the cross and third against the run. The absence of Panthers’ defensive finish Charles Johnson, who was injured Monday, could be key if the Dolphins hope to maintain Ryan Tannehill clean and upright. On the season, Tannehill is 224-of-366 for 2,474 yards with 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

The Panthers are a four.5 favourite and I count on them to cowl in a reasonably shut sport.

He wants to get back on this soccer group and desires to get back and play soccer. Richie Incognito, the soccer participant, so that’s the only thing he is aware of. He’s lacking it to dying. He’ll be alright.”

Incognito is scheduled for a grievance hearing with the Dolphins on Thursday. He is trying to recoup misplaced wages and either return to the Dolphins or get launched.

Pouncey returned Wednesday after missing the previous week with an sickness. Pouncey also confirmed that he met with NFL investigators at Miami’s observe facility in relation to Martin’s claims of harassment and bullying contained in the locker room.

They bought all the questions they needed to get out of us and we gave all of them the trustful solutions.”
