No. 2 seed Wisconsin holds on, wins thriller over Oregon

MILWAUKEE – As an ear-splitting roar enveloped the world, the Wisconsin Badgers pointed to their chests and strutted off the ground as if they’d gained a prize struggle.

In a take a look at of basketball tempos, Wisconsin delivered the knockout punch.

Ben Brust hit a three-pointer with 1:07 left and the second-seeded Badgers returned to the Candy 16 after overcoming No. 7 Oregon’s transition game for an exhilarating eighty five-77 win Saturday night time in the NCAA tournament.

Trailing by 12 on the half, coach Bo Ryan’s veteran squad didn’t flinch.

“To have the ability to deal with that smack in the face within the first half and come again and deliver certainly one of our personal says quite a bit about this group,” Ryan mentioned.

Brust’s clutch three from the nook gave the Badgers (28-7) the lead for good in a conflict of types performed earlier than a boisterous pro-Wisconsin crowd at the something-but-impartial Bradley Center.

Traevon Jackson adopted Brust’s shot with three free throws, but missed one with 21 seconds left to give the Ducks (24-10) yet one more probability to tie.

Oregon gave it to Joseph Younger, who had made large shots all night time and scored 29 points. However he missed a rushed three from the wing, and the Badgers sealed it on the foul line.

“That shot he took, no one questioned it,” Oregon’s Richard Amardi said about Younger. “It looked good. Unfortunately it simply didn’t go it in after we wanted it.”

The red-clad followers erupted in delight. Their beloved Badgers are back within the NCAA regional semifinals for the first time since 2012. They may play Baylor or Creighton in Anaheim, Calif., on Thursday.

“As soon as that momentum swung, we have been in hassle,” Oregon coach Dana Altman said.

Frank Kaminsky led the best way with 19 points, Jackson finished with sixteen and Brust had 12 – all on 3-pointers.

Left off-kilter by the Geese transition sport early and trailing by 12 on the half, the Badgers hustled again within the second half to answer the Oregon cost. After 19 points on the break within the first half, Oregon had nothing in transition after halftime.

“Have you learnt what number of fast-break factors they received within the second half? Zero.” Ryan stated. “Oregon, one of many quickest groups within the nation, so you have to give the gamers a heckuva lot of credit.”

The half court docket sets belonged to Wisconsin. The pace performed extra their liking.

Buckets within the lane by Kaminsky, a soar-shooting 7-footer, and coach Ryan’s gritty guards set the tone inside, and later helped open up the perimeter.

“It’s match time and nobody wants to go house,” Kaminsky said. “You are doing no matter you may to remain in. If that means being physical down low with anyone – it is a battle.”

Still, as had usually occurred throughout the night, Young had an answer. His 3 from the wing with 2:50 left gave Oregon a seventy five-74 lead.

The Badgers hustled for 2 offensive rebounds on their next possession. Off a timeout, Ryan re-inserted Brust, who was saddled with four fouls.

The senior delivered in an enormous spot. Young could not ship one final time.

“Do no matter it takes to not make it your ultimate sport,” Brust said.

Jason Calliste had 20 points for Oregon, which set the tone early with in-your-face protection and an aggressive offense.

Wisconsin found its groove by attacking the basket, a plan that has labored all yr lengthy when the workforce has been having problems. Dekker added 12 factors and eight rebounds in one other usually balanced effort.

Within the first half, it was Oregon dictating tempo by setting a breakneck pace.

The Ducks quieted the Wisconsin followers in a hurry, attacking at almost every opportunity and flustering Wisconsin. The frustration peaked when the Badgers bench was whistled for a technical foul close to the top of the primary half after arguing a name.

Oregon pounced within the first 20 minutes. Typically it was Calliste driving to the bucket to attract fouls. Other occasions it was Young hitting mid-range jumpers.

Then Wisconsin discovered its approach in the second half.

Regardless of the disappointing ending, Oregon had regrouped fairly nicely since a midseason stretch of eight losses in 10 video games.

“We did not get stops and we didn’t rebound,” forward Mike Moser mentioned. “Simple as that.”

No. 10 Oregon rolls Texas in Brown’s finale

Oregon Crushes Texas In Brown's Remaining Sport

SAN ANTONIO – No. 10 Oregon first felt ignored by the BCS, after which got here to the Alamo Bowl overshadowed by Mack Brown's remaining game at Texas.

However the Ducks are flying residence with an attention-getting blowout.

Quarterback Marcus Mariota had 386 total yards and Oregon returned two interceptions for touchdowns, spoiling Brown's emotional farewell after 16 seasons at Texas with a runaway 30-7 victory Monday night.

The BCS-snubbed Ducks (eleven-2) dominated all through – despite the fact that their famously high-powered offense scored just one landing and repeatedly settled for subject targets. But the rout didn't seem to utterly balm the sting of not enjoying in a BCS bowl for the primary time in five years, with Oregon gamers after the sport still reflecting on their championship hopes derailed by November losses.

Oregon coach Mark Helfrich declined to reply whether this season was a success.

"That's so that you can resolve," Helfrich stated. "I don't think in these terms. I think of how nicely we can prepare and what's next."

Brown obtained heat goodbyes from a sellout crowd in what was practically a house sport for Texas (8-5). Even the college marching band spelled his title at halftime.

But the blowout was a ultimate reminder of why Brown is resigning after a rocky and tense season at Texas, which he led to a nationwide championship in 2005 but could not reverse a sharp decline lately.

Leaving the sector for the last time with Texas, Brown flashed the "Hook 'em Horns" hand signal to the scattered remaining Longhorns fans who caught around to the tip of one other humbling loss this season. His gamers didn't say a word whereas surrounding Brown and his spouse, who walked side by side into the tunnel and toward the locker room.

Brown stated he had no regrets about making this his exit.

"I feel it is best for Texas. It's best for me, it is best for the players," he stated. "We need to win more than eight games. Last yr was nine. I really thought we had a chance to win all the video games this year. It didn't work. It is my job to make that work. I informed them tonight, the only remorse I had is we didn't win enough video games this yr."

Mariota led all rushers with 133 yards on 15 carries. He was 18 of 26 for 253 yards passing in his Heisman Trophy campaign tuneup for 2014, having announced earlier this month that he was coming back for his junior season.

His one landing cross was to Josh Huff, who turned a short go right into a spectacular sixteen-yard dash to the end zone.

But even Mariota was outscored by Oregon's protection – and so was Texas, for that matter.

Oregon's first touchdown got here on the third play of the game when safety Avery Patterson intercepted an overthrown go by Texas quarterback Case McCoy and returned it 37 yards to the tip zone. McCoy later bookended a dismal efficiency in his final recreation with another decide-six, this one returned 38 yards by linebacker Derrick Malone that despatched waves of burnt orange-clad followers streaming for the exits.

McCoy scored on a 1-yard rush within the first quarter for Texas' only landing. He finished 8 of 17 for forty eight yards and was pulled at instances within the second half for freshman Tyrone Swoopes.

Working again Malcolm Brown was the lone offensive constant for Texas, finishing with a hundred thirty yards on 26 carries.

"It's tough not to get a win for him," defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat said. "Miss Sally, she's like a second mother to us. She takes care of us. Coach Brown loves us "

Removed from the uplifting send-off Texas wanted for Brown, the college now shifts its focus to finding a substitute. New Texas athletic director Steve Patterson mentioned before kickoff that he wants a successor by Jan. 15.

Patterson stated coaches fascinated within the job have come ahead however would not discuss potential candidates.

"There's curiosity that is honest, and there's curiosity that's 'Assist me find a higher contract,'" Patterson stated.

Whoever Texas hires should not expect endurance from a fanbase that grew accustomed to successful underneath Brown, and then grew to become restless as the Longhorns slid from perennial BCS competition. Brown arrived in 1998 and went 128-27 by the end of 2009, when the Longhorns lost to Alabama in its second BCS title sport in five years.

He went out, nonetheless, 30-21 in his last four seasons.

Texas may do rather a lot worse than look to Oregon for learn how to pull off a training transition.

Although first-yr coach Helfrich could not get the Ducks to a BCS bowl as Chip Kelly did in every of his four seasons, Oregon still finished with a fourth consecutive yr of 11 or extra victories. This was the Ducks' third consecutive bowl win.

Enjoying before New Yr's Day was a disappointing comfort for the Geese after entering November unbeaten and ranked No. 2. Dropping to Stanford dashed their national title hopes, however they will be favorites to contend once more in 2014 with Mariota again.

"Yeah, it wasn't the season we hoped for," Huff mentioned. "That month of November was a tricky stretch for us however we had been capable of come collectively as a workforce and proceed to struggle for one another."

Seldom has the Alamo Bowl hosted blowouts like this lately. Seven of the earlier eight video games had been determined by a landing or less earlier than closely favored Oregon ended that run of drama, in front of what was the second-largest crowd in the bowl's 20-yr historical past.

NCAA Prediction Beavers vs ducks Preview and Pick

Free NCAA Pick and Prediction Beavers vs Ducks

Oregon State Beavers (6-5) @ #13 Oregon Ducks (9-2) 11/29- 7:00PM EST

Line: ORE -21.5

Over/Under: 68.0

When the #13 ranked Oregon Ducks take the field on Friday afternoon for it’s annual Civil War battle…. there will be no Pac-12 North title on the line, no Rose Bowl aspirations on the line and certainly no BCS national championship dreams on the line.

What these two schools will be playing for is bragging rights and pride… and to the victor… a better bowl.

My biggest surprise of the 2013 college football season was the Oregon Ducks (9-2, 6-2), who looked like world-beaters at one point crashing and burning, first losing to Stanford to dash their BCS hopes and then the kicker to Arizona losing 42-16 last weekend to put an end to any type of marquee bowl talks.

The embarrassing loss to the Wildcats dropped the Ducks from a No. 7 BCS ranking to #13 and most importantly… out of the Pac-12 Championship against Arizona State. Stanford will now represent the North against South winner ASU for the right to go to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on New Year’s day.

What could’ve been with the Ducks and their offensive juggernaut is now no more…

For Oregon State (6-5, 4-4) who were also once a BCS top 25 team has also fallen by the wayside. The capper being routed at home 69-27 to the Washington Huskies.

With their 6 wins, the are bowl eligible, but would like to end the season strong and improve themselves for a more attractive bowl. Lose on Friday and they’re no guarantees of any type of postseason play.

The Beavers went from winning six straight after losing their season opener to lesser opponent Eastern Washington to having the wheels come off again losing four in-a-row.

After the Washington pounding, the players did not speak to the media, but Oregon State coach Mike Riley said he believes his team will be ready to go for the Civil War.

But, besides the less then disappointing season for both teams, the Civil War is their in-state championship and both teams will be playing for bragging rights for the next year.

For Oregon though, they are greatly disappointed after being ranked as high as No. 2 in the BCS and all indications pointed to a showdown with No. 1 Alabama possibly… now the Alamo or Holiday Bowl.

The Ducks string of four-straight BCS bowls is now history and the opportunity to play in a fourth straight Pac-12 championship is also gone.

We are just going to have to come back and bounce back,” Ducks quarterback and one-time Heisman hopeful Marcus Mariota said. “We have to come back and just fight and control what we can control.”

Mariota has been cleared to play in the Civil War after passing the concussion protocol. He suffered the head injury last week against the Wildcats.

The Oregon star has also been hobbled by a knee injury for the last four games, resorting to wearing a brace to allow him to play. The severity of the injury is unknown due to school policy, but Mariota insists it’s not an issue and is anxious to play Friday afternoon.

Besides having won five consecutive Civil Wars over the Beavers, Oregon is still an offensive threat and go in as heavy favorites at home with a (minus) -21.5 point spread. But, be sure to check Wonder Punter for the latest lines leading up to game time.

Oregon receiver Josh Huff ran his mouth last week before the Arizona game saying he would be disappointed with a Rose Bowl berth… because it’s all about the national championship game.

After the blowout loss to the Wildcats, Huff backed-off his comment and declared he will be ready for the Beavers.

We have Oregon State coming to us and it’s going to be tough to beat those guys if we played like we just played. A lot of people misunderstand me, I just want the best for my teammates. I have always been taught, never be satisfied,” he said. “As this Oregon State game comes up, I am going to do everything I can to get these guys ready.”

I expect an entertaining game and hope to see both teams play with passion and pride. Oregon to me is still dangerous and predict a high scoring affair.

NCAA Pick College Football 7th Nov Game Prediction – #3 Oregon vs. #5 Stanford

ncaapreview2013

NCAA College football preview for Thursday 7th November Oregon vs Stanford Prediction

#3 Oregon Ducks (8-0) @ #5 Stanford Cardinal (7-1) 11/07- 11:00PM EST

Line: ORE -10.0

Over/Under: 61.0

Get ready for another classic Pac 12 battle this Thursday night as No. 3 Oregon Ducks look to take their high-flying act into Stanford Stadium as it seeks revenge from last year’s loss against the No. 5 Stanford Cardinal for sole possession in the Pac 12 North division.

With the betting line making the Cardinal 10-point underdogs… oddsmakers are betting the Cardinal defense will have no way to slow down Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota and his offensive machine as they look to remain unbeaten (8-0, 5-0 Pac 12) and in the BCS Championship hunt.

Heisman Trophy candidate Marcus Mariota has thrown up some incredible numbers this year so far… 2,281 yards and 20 touchdowns and has ran for 587 yards and nine touchdowns, 64.0 percent completions with no interceptions. His last INT was against the Cardinal last year.

I though last year he was the best quarterback in the nation, and I feel the same way this year,” Shaw said. “I don’t care about stats. Stats don’t mean anything. You watch the film, you see a kid that makes every throw. Every throw is accurate. Twenty touchdowns and no interceptions? Every ball is perfect, every ball is in stride, every ball there’s no wobble on it. Everything’s pretty.

As a former receiver, you always appreciate that, a guy that just throws a pretty ball. And then when nobody’s open, he just takes off and outruns everybody. You’re designing a quarterback, that’s what you want.”

However, the same was said last year and the Cardinal (7-1, 5-1) marched into Eugene and upset the Ducks 17-14 in overtime to oust then No. 1 Oregon and any hopes for a national title.

If our guys use last year as a motivational factor to practice harder… we’ll take it,” Oregon coach Mark Helfrich said. “Any external motivation that was used to prepare, great.”

The Cardinal defense has risen to the challenge to stop two great quarterbacks and their offense already this season… UCLA’s Brett Hundley (10 points) and Oregon States’ Sean Mannion (12 points) in back-to-back games.

One key to Stanford’s success has been forcing miscues where they are ranked second in all of football with 33 straight turnovers.

Do they have one more stop in them with Mariota?

He’s a great player. He’s going to make some plays. But we can’t just let him take the ball, read what we are doing,” said Cardinal linebacker A.J. Tarpley. “We want to try and mix it up a little bit, whether that’s attacking him, try to show something that looks like something but it’s actually something else. We’ll mix it up. We don’t want them to get in their rhythm. Because once they do that, you can’t stop them.”

Last year, for the most part Mariota was ineffective against the Cardinal defense.

I think a lot of times we were hesitating a little bit and we were unsure of some of the fronts we were seeing,” Mariota said. “That’s the stuff we’re really going to have to clean up.”

I look for a much better performance all around from the Ducks this year and even though it’s a tough road game, I feel they can cover the spread and beat the Stanford Cardinal.

Thomas: Oregon to ‘put up 40′ on Stanford

On The Mark: Large Week Ahead

Oregon working again De’Anthony Thomas doesn’t count on Stanford to derail the Ducks’ nationwide championship hopes for the second 12 months in a row.

Oregon I really feel like,
this workforce, we should at the very least put up forty.

- Oregon RB De’Anthony Thomas

Last yr, Oregon misplaced its solely recreation of the season 17-14 in additional time to Stanford. But Thomas is confident this yr’s workforce will not be held to two touchdowns.

“I do not assume so,” Thomas informed Oregon’s official website. “I really feel like, this group, we should at the least put up forty.”

Slowing down Oregon’s offense would be the high precedence for Stanford when the fifth-ranked Cardinal (7-1, 5-1 Pac-12) host No. 3 Oregon (8-0, 5-zero) on Thursday evening in a matchup of the winners of the past 4 Pac-12 championships.

Oregon is averaging fifty five.6 points per recreation, the second-greatest in the nation, whereas Stanford is allowing 19.four factors per recreation.

To upset the Geese again, Stanford must shut down not only Thomas, who averages greater than 7 yards per carry, but also versatile quarterback Marcus Mariota, who averages more than 9.

Virtually every week, Stanford coach David Shaw delegates a backup quarterback to the scout staff in practice who can finest simulate the upcoming opponent. Not this week.

Shaw’s seek for any person on the roster to imitate Mariota and Oregon’s up-tempo offense was deemed a misplaced cause. There’s no one who may even come shut.

“Now we have to signal any person,” he joked.

In 21 begins, Mariota has put up online game-like numbers against practically every team he has confronted. That’s, apart from Stanford.

Final season’s loss to Stanford is Mariota’s solely loss of his career. Stanford’s victory ended then-No. 1 Oregon’s three-yr run as conference champion and dashed the Ducks’ nationwide championship desires – not to point out Mariota’s possibilities for the Heisman Trophy.

“If our guys use last yr as a motivational issue to observe tougher.. we’ll take it,” coach Mark Helfrich advised Oregon’s official site. “Any external motivation that was used to organize, nice.”

Duplicating final season’s efficiency is likely to be even more durable for Stanford.

Mariota has thrown for two,281 yards and 20 touchdowns and run for 587 yards and 9 TDs this season. He is completing sixty four percent of his passes and, perhaps most impressively, has not thrown an interception. The last time he was picked off was throughout last season’s meeting with the Cardinal.

“I thought last year he was the very best quarterback within the nation, and I feel the identical means this yr,” Shaw stated. “I do not care about stats. Stats don’t imply something. You watch the movie, you see a kid that makes every throw. Every throw is correct. Twenty touchdowns and no interceptions? Each ball is perfect, each ball is in stride, every ball there is no wobble on it. Every thing’s fairly.

“As a former receiver, you all the time recognize that, a man that simply throws a fairly ball. After which when no one’s open, he just takes off and outruns everybody. You’re designing a quarterback, that is what you need.”

The secret to Stanford’s success against Mariota stays considerably of a thriller.

The Cardinal credit score a bodily, hole-plugging three-four scheme beneath defensive coordinator Derek Mason, who emphasizes essentially the most fundamental fundamentals: tackling and discipline. Since shedding 27-21 at Utah on Oct. 12, Stanford has shut down Brett Hundley and UCLA (10 points) and Sean Mannion and Oregon State (12 factors) in back-to-again victories.

Now the Cardinal hope to make it three in a row with Mariota up subsequent.

“He is a fantastic participant. He’ll make some plays. However we can’t just let him take the ball, read what we’re doing,” mentioned linebacker A.J. Tarpley, who intercepted Mariota last season. “We wish to try and combine it up a bit of bit, whether or not that is attacking him, try to show something that appears like one thing but it surely’s truly something else. We’ll combine it up. We don’t need them to get in their rhythm. As a result of as soon as they do this, you’ll be able to’t stop them.”

Within the first 10 video games earlier than final season’s meeting, the Ducks seemed unstoppable beneath Mariota. Oregon led the Soccer Bowl Subdivision with 54.8 factors per recreation and never scored fewer than forty two.

Mariota accomplished 21 of 37 passes for 207 yards, one landing and the one interception towards Stanford. Apart from a 77-yard run in the first quarter, Mariota netted only 12 yards dashing, usually wanting flustered underneath heavy strain.

“I believe a lot times we have been hesitating a bit bit and we have been not sure of among the fronts we have been seeing,” Mariota mentioned. “That’s the stuff we’re actually going to have to scrub up.”

One of many staples of Stanford’s protection is also what Mariota avoids most: turnovers.

Stanford has forced a turnover in 33 straight games, the second-longest streak within the country. Being the first team to make Mariota throw an interception this season is a challenge Stanford is aware of will be tough, however it’s additionally one it’ll embrace.

“It is time,” cornerback Alex Carter said, “for him to throw one.”

Stanford’s harm-depleted defense acquired a lift Monday with news that defensive finish Henry Anderson will play towards Oregon.

Anderson has been out since mid-September. Stanford’s other beginning end, Ben Gardner, is out for the rest of the season.

Josh Mauro, who replaced Anderson while he was out, now will fill Gardner’s spot.

Thomas: Oregon should ‘put up 40′ vs. Stanford

De'Anthony Thomas has confidence in Oregon's ability to score against Stanford. (USATSI)
De’Anthony Thomas has confidence in Oregon’s potential to attain against Stanford. (USATSI)

Last season, Oregon’s offense was flying high heading into their November matchup with then-No. 14 ranked Stanford. The Ducks entered that recreation averaging 54.eight points per game, building a ten-0 report by outscoring opponents 348-90 in the first half.

At the finish of the primary half in Eugene, Stanford and Oregon had been tied 7-7.

So naturally one of many fundamental stories heading into Thursday night time’s rematch has been whether or not or not Stanford can once again slow the game down and limit Oregon’s opportunities to attain. In accordance with operating again De’Anthony Thomas, the 2013 Geese should have no trouble discovering the tip zone.

“I feel we are a better team, only a new generation of gamers,” Thomas instructed GoDucks.com. “We’ve got a whole lot of guys that can contribute to the offense and that is what makes this offense to dynamic.”

Thomas was then asked if he thought Stanford may maintain the Ducks offense to 14 points – Oregon’s total from the 2012 loss.

“I do not assume so,” Thomas replied. “I really feel like this team, we should always at least put up forty.”

Thomas’ comment was relayed to Stanford coach David Shaw on Monday. Shaw, who earlier within the day questioned if the 10-level spread was too low, didn’t have a problem with the comment.

Stanford’s protection does enter the sport banged up, which is never preferrred playing the Geese. Nevertheless, the Oregon game is expected to mark the return of defensive end Henry Anderson. The 6-6 senior has not played since struggling a knee damage in September, and his return could not come at a greater time after the lack of Ben Gardner to a season-ending pectoral harm.

While the matchup of Oregon’s offense and Stanford’s defense will be a serious focus leading up to the showdown, the Cardinal will not be able to tug the upset off without some sustained drives on offense. With the Ducks allowing simply 3.forty one yards per keep on the ground and permitting opponents to convert third downs at a 33.1 percent charge (each Prime 20 nationwide rankings), Stanford will want considered one of their best offensive performances of the season as well to pull the upset.

No. 2 Oregon passes FSU in BCS standings

Oregon has handed Florida State for the No. 2 spot in the second version of this season’s BCS standings.

Florida State was No. 2 last week and received comfortably on Saturday, but the Seminoles found themselves chasing the Geese in this week’s standings, launched Sunday night.

No. 1 Alabama barely increased its stranglehold on the top spot, whereas Florida State dropped to No. three regardless of beating NC State 49-17 on Saturday.

The Crimson Tide, ranked first by both polls used within the BCS calculations, are also listed first by four of the six computer systems. The Geese and Seminoles every lead one pc.

Ohio State remained No. 4, whereas Stanford moved up one spot to enter the highest 5.

Oregon, which beat UCLA forty two-14, has a much wider lead on the third spot than Florida State had final week. The Seminoles led by a minuscule0028 in the BCS average final week, while Oregon now enjoys a0306 benefit.

UCLA fell from No. 12 to No. 20 after the loss to Oregon.

Also dropping in this week’s standings had been two teams that suffered their first losses of the season Saturday. No. 9 Missouri dropped four spots after dropping in two overtimes to South Carolina, and No. 15 Texas Tech fell 5 spots after losing to Oklahoma.

The Sooners changed Texas Tech at No. 10 with the win, whereas the Gamecocks shot up seven spots to No. 14.

No. 6 Baylor handed Missouri and fellow unbeaten Miami, which remained No. 7 after needing a late comeback to beat Wake Forest on Saturday. No. 8 Clemson moved up one spot within the standings.

4 SEC groups are just exterior the top 10: No. eleven Auburn, No. 12 Texas A&M, No. 13 LSU and No. 14 South Carolina.

Two new Big Ten teams entered the standings this week – No. 22 Michigan State and No. 24 Wisconsin – as did Notre Dame at No. 25.

Virginia Tech, which had been No. 14 and a favorite of the computers final week, tumbled out of the highest 25 after a loss to Duke. Nebraska and Oregon State additionally fell out of the standings after losses on Saturday.

No. sixteen Fresno State and No. 17 Northern Illinois, the nation’s high two groups from outside the automated qualifying conferences, both moved up one spot from last week. Northern Illinois closed last week’s hole on the Bulldogs by about a third.

One of those schools will earn a BCS bid if it finishes in the prime 12, or if it finishes within the prime sixteen and forward of an AQ conference champion. That appears to be a strong chance this season as a result of Fresno State and Northern Illinois are both forward of the highest groups from the American Athletic Conference: No. 19 Louisville and No. 23 UCF.

The schools from the AAC, previously the Large East, are nearly invisible to the computer systems. Louisville is unranked by 5 of the six computers, while UCF is unranked by two. Meanwhile, Northern Illinois is ranked No. three by the Sagarin pc, though the highest and lowest pc rankings are thrown out of the calculations.

No. 18 Oklahoma State and Wisconsin are only within the standings because of their poll rankings. Both teams are unranked by all six computers.

NCAA Prediction College Football Preview & Pick- #12 UCLA vs. #3 Oregon

NCAA Prediction College Football Preview & Pick- #12 UCLA vs. #3 Oregon

#12 UCLA Bruins (5-1) @ #3 Oregon Ducks (7-0) 10/26- 7:00PM EST

Line: ORE -23.0

Over/Under: 71.0

The No. 12 UCLA Bruins will get the undaunting task of traveling in to Eugene to try and upset an Oregon team that has destroyed opponents in its wake as Heisman Trophy candidate Marcus Mariota continues to impress everyone, including Bruins coach Jim Mora who believes he will be a star on the next level.

I had a couple guys ask me, NFL guys, if I thought he could play at the next level,” Mora said. “I said, ‘Have you not watched him? I mean, he’ll rip it up at the next level.’ I mean this guy is ripping it up at this level. He’s really special.”

Mariota’s numbers are impressive considering most games he doesn’t even play the fourth quarter because they are so far ahead of the competition and the game is out of reach… 19 touchdowns, no interceptions and has also ran for nine TDs.

The Oregon quarterback believes however, he has much more room for improvement after he lost two fumbles in their blowout win over Washington State 62-38.

Obviously I’ve got to take care of the ball a lot better,” Mariota said. “I was pretty non-chalant with it in the pocket and we can’t have that.”

To make matters worse this Saturday, UCLA (5-1, 2-1 Pac12) will have to contend with the return of Oregon running back De’Anthony Thomas (ankle) after a three game absence.

Even without Thomas’ the last three games, Oregon (7-0, 4-0 Pac12) hasn’t missed a beat with their running game with Byron Marshall carrying the load and totaling 550 yards with seven rushing touchdowns.

On his practice sessions this week… “It’s great just to go out there, see guys having fun,” Thomas said. “I hope we can continue that, and put more points up on teams and I feel as long as we keep winning games, we should be successful.”

The Ducks will have a chip on their shoulder come Saturday as they have fallen to No.3 behind Alabama and Florida St. in the BCS polls.

That’s their opinions, we have no control over that,” Mariota said. “We’ll just continue to take it one game at a time.”

The Bruins will be looking to bounce back after their high-powered offense was stymied against #6 Stanford as they suffered their first-loss of the season 24-10. Coach Mora believes there are some positives he can take from the loss.

I believe that last week, we started seven true freshman if you include the punter against one of the best teams in America and we took it down to the end,” the coach said. “It was 17-10 there with 2:29 or whatever left on the clock. I think that’s a testament to the way our guys compete, I think it’s a testament to our coaching.”

Bruins junior quarterback Brett Hundley (also on the NFL radar) will also be looking to bounce back after last week’s sub-par performance. He was held to a season-low 192 yards passing and sacked four times.

Oregon coach Mark Helfrich is also impressed with what Hundley can bring to the table.

Hundley is the type of guy that can work with that, being an athletic guy, being a versatile guy, who can run, who can throw, who can make plays, (the) quick game down the field, all the things that they do,” Helfrich said.

The Bruins running game has been hampered of late without their top running back Jordan James who averages 115.8 yards a game.

One of the better games on Saturday, UCLA has a great offense, however the Ducks are an absolute offensive machine that scores points in bunches. Both teams possess good defenses with lots of speed… question is, can All-American linebacker Anthony Barr and the Bruin defense do enough to contain the high-flying Oregon offense? To put it simply.. NO! For that reason my NCAA Prediction and Pick for this Saturday´s Game is?

Pick: Oregon Ducks

NCAA Prediction College Football Preview & Pick- #6 Stanford vs. #25 Oregon St.

NCAA Prediction College Football Preview & Pick- #6 Stanford vs. #25 Oregon St.

#6 Stanford Cardinal (6-1) @ #25 Oregon St. Beavers (6-1) 10/26- 10:30PM EST

Line: STAN -3.5

Over/Under: 57.5

Stanford’s defense will be put to the test again this Saturday night as they travel into Corvallis to battle one of the nation’s most high-powered offenses, the Oregon St. Beavers, who have made their way back into the Top 25 and in the midst of their longest winning streak in nearly 13 years.

The Cardinal, one week removed from shutting down and beating another prolific offense, the UCLA Bruins 24-10.. Stanford will look to retain it’s hold in the BCS and stay in the conversation for a possible shot at a national title.

Nothing ever surprises me on that stuff,” coach David Shaw said. “I don’t know what to say about it. It’s so early. I wish they’d come out with one (poll) at the end of the season and say who’s playing. We know what it’s for. It’s for the TV shows, it’s for the rankings, it’s for the conversation, it’s for everybody that doesn’t play or coach football.”

Oregon St. (6-1, 4-0 Pac12) winners of their last six, will look to win it’s seventh-straight game since the end of the 2000 season when they won the Fiesta Bowl.

Sean Mannion leads the Beaver attack and is first in the nation with 2,992 passing yards, 29 touchdowns and only three interceptions.

His top receiver Brandin Cooks, also leads the country in receiving yards with 1,176 on 76 catches and 12 touchdowns.

Facing the Beavers however, will be a Stanford (6-1, 4-1 Pac12) passing defense that has limited their opponents to an average of 247.1 through the air and holding opponents to an average of 98.0 rushing yards over the past five games.

Stanford may be without receiver Devon Cajuste who suffered a right knee injury. It was initially feared he had torn a ligament, but x-rays came back negative.

Defensive end Henry Anderson (knee) is expected to miss his sixth-straight game.

Despite injuries on both sides on the ball, coach Shaw is confident about the depth on his football team to get the job done on a weekly basis.

That’s always been the goal in recruiting is to recruit smart, tough players and to recruit enough of them so if somebody gets hurts we can still play out style of football,” Shaw said.

Should be another great Pac12 match-up with these two schools… explosive offense versus a solid defense. Will Stanford be able to duplicate their defensive performance again, but this time on the road?

So for My NCAA Prediction and pick for this game?

Pick: Even

“I am form of shocked he would hold his quarterback and crew in there,” Aliotti informed reporters after the Ducks’ 62-38 win, based on The Oregonian. “And still he threw the ball with 20 seconds left. But he did.

“They need stats, they acquired stats. But we bought an important stat, and that’s the ‘W,’ and we’re blissful about that.”

Aliotti apologized for these comments Sunday night time.

“The bottom line is, I am sorry,” Aliotti mentioned in a press release released by the varsity. “I am embarrassed that I bought caught up in the second after the game. There isn’t any excuse, but typically proper after the sport the adrenaline continues to be flowing and I made a huge, human error in judgment. I want I may take it again, and I promise it will not happen again.

“I’d prefer to apologize to Mike Leach and Invoice Moos (Washington State athletics director), Washington State and its followers, and Oregon and our fans.”

Trailing fifty five-24 to begin the Cougars’ first drive of the fourth quarter, Halliday made 28 more passes to break a 15-year-outdated FBS document set by Drew Brees with Purdue – by six attempts.

“That is total (B.S.) that he threw the ball on the finish of the sport like he did,” Aliotti said, referring to Leach after the game. “And you can print that and you’ll send it to him, and he can remark, too. I believe it’s low class and it’s (B.S.) to throw the ball when the game is totally over against our kids which can be basically our scout crew.”

Halliday completed fifty eight of 89 passes complete for 557 yards and 4 touchdowns for Washington State (4-four, 2-3 Pac-12). He didn’t hand the ball off once through the fourth quarter.

But the Ducks (7-0, 4-0) picked off Halliday four instances, together with one interception that was returned fifty one yards for a touchdown by Terrance Mitchell early in the fourth quarter. Halliday leads the nation with 17 interceptions.

“I’m repeating myself,” Aliotti reiterated, unprompted, a number of questions later in the media session. “But again, in the long run he is nonetheless throwing at a time when most guys would try to finish the sport and go home.”

Washington welcomed a particular and unlikely visitor to the pregame locker room prior to its recreation against Oregon on Saturday – actor Will Ferrell.

Ferrell is a proud USC grad and school soccer enthusiast, and doubtless had a relationship with Washington coach Steve Sarkisian when he was an assistant with the Trojans.

We are able to only hope Ferrell gave some sort of Frank from Previous Faculty style pep speak while within the locker room. While the Huskies couldn’t pull out a win, Washington students were excited to see Ferrell grace the house sideline at Husky Stadium.

NCAA College Football Preview/Pick- #2 Oregon vs. #16 Washington

 oregon-washington-betting-odds

NCAA College Football Preview/Pick- #2 Oregon vs. #16 Washington

#2 Oregon Ducks (5-0, 2-0 Pac 12) @ #16 Washington Huskies (4-1, 1-1) 10/12 4:00PM EST

Line: ORE -13.5

Over/Under: 76.0

Just how good are the #2 Oregon Ducks? We will all find out on Saturday afternoon as they will face their toughest opponent yet, the #16 Washington Huskies in Seattle.

Will the Huskies be able to rebound at home after last weeks heartbreaking loss at #5 Stanford? We will find that out as well… and they better be ready because the high-flying Oregon Ducks with their mile-a-minute offense look to make a statement to the nation that they are deserving of a No. 2 ranking, as they have just humiliated every team in its path so far.

At stake for the Ducks will be to stay pace in the Pac 12 North with the #5 Stanford Cardinal, stay deserving of their ranking as the BCS standings are due to come out next week, extend the nation’s longest winning streak to 18 games and look for it’s tenth straight win against the Huskies.

The last road loss for the Ducks was to their nemesis Stanford on Nov. 7th 2009, when they went down in defeat 51-42.

The Oregon Ducks’ offense machine is led by sophomore Heisman Trophy candidate Marcus Mariota who is 17-1 as a starter and has at least one touchdown pass in all of his 18 games.

I think as a unit, we’ve all gotten better with Marcus,” said Bralon Addison. “Marcus does some amazing things with his legs and has the arm to complement those legs. It’s almost like he’s playing a video game out there.”

Even more amazing for Mariota and the Ducks is that he has yet to play a full game this year and they are still averaging at least 55 points a game in their first five games… first time in school history. The Ducks rank second in the nation in points with an average of 59.2 and average 630.4 in total yards while blowing out opponents by an average of 47.4 points a game!

Yet, Washington believes they have the firepower to keep pace offensively with the Ducks and their hurry-up no huddle offense. The Oregon offense averages less then two-minutes with their scoring drives.

The Huskies rank fifth in college football in total offense with 557.0 yards per game. With the Ducks bringing a completely different style of offensive than they faced against Stanford, they may have to try to slow down the pace of the game by relying more on a balanced attack of rushing and passing.

On the Stanford loss and Oregon offense… Washington coach Steve Sarkisian says, “We have to learn from it, but we have to get ready for a completely different style in Oregon this week.”

Washington does have Bishop Sankey, who ranks fourth in the nation with 146.4 yards rushing a game.

The Ducks have plenty of speed on defense as well where they rank second in the nation with allowing only 11.8 points per game. The Huskies rank 11th with giving up only 14.8 points a contest.

With No. 16 Washington on the docket this Saturday, the Ducks still have showdowns with No.11 UCLA and fifth-ranked Stanford coming up.

I expect a good game from both teams, however just don’t see the Huskies having enough on both sides of the ball to win. Both teams will light it up on Saturday night in a must-watch entertaining game.

PICK: Oregon Ducks

Oregon TE Colt Lyerla unhappy with the way coach Mark Helfrich addressed his absence Saturday

Colt Lyerla missed Oregon’s game Saturday against Tennessee. (Getty Images)

After Oregon’s fifty nine-14 throttling of Tennessee Saturday, coach Mark Helfrich was very in line with the way in which that he described star TE Colt Lyerla’s absence.

In his publish-game press convention, he used the word “circumstances” thrice. He gave no further clarification on what these circumstances might be. Aside from they precipitated Lyerla to miss the sport. And Lyerla is unhappy with the way Helfrich chose to address the state of affairs.

From The Oregonian:

“I’m really upset with the way in which coach Helfrich said that after the game,’’ Lyerla said Sunday. “Actually dissatisfied. I really feel harm about this. I watched just a little bit of what he stated, then started reading all of it, and.. it was unfair.’’

Lyerla mentioned that he was sick this week, and missed sufficient practices by workforce rules that he knew that he wasn’t going to be able to play Saturday. So he was informed to stay home on Saturday.

As Jason Fast noted, the way Helfrich used the word circumstances left a lot of prospects open, as Lyerla missed some practices this summer season because of private causes. It may make for an ungainly greeting between the 2 when Lyerla goes back to apply on Tuesday.

“I do not know why he stated that,’’ Lyerla informed Fast. “It made me really upset. It’s not my fault I obtained sick. I simply felt he could have had my again slightly bit extra as an alternative of throwing me under the bus.’’

Another Oregon prep football coach arrested, this time for assault

Michael James Cole, 28, faces assault charges after allegedly punching a player -- OregonianMichael James Cole, 28, faces assault charges after allegedly punching a participant — Oregonian It hasn’t been a very good week for Oregon prep soccer coaches.

First, Oregon City (Ore.) High head coach Kevin Strasser was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of stealing and pawning a scholar’s watch. True story.

Later that same night, police apprehended Lake Oswego (Ore.) Lakeridge High volunteer coach Michael James Cole for allegedly assaulting a player during apply, according to another Oregonian report. Bad times.

When a teammate accused Portland State University-sure senior defensive end Marqueese Royster of lacking his assignment, a shoving match ensued and members of the Pacers restrained the 6-foot-1, 251-pound Royster, the report said.

That’s when the 28-12 months-previous Cole, standing 6-foot-7 and 265 kilos, reportedly took it upon himself to resolve the scenario within the worst method possible — by punching the defenseless 17-year-previous Royster within the face. Not good.

“You by no means touch a child. Get off the sphere,” Lakeridge defensive coordinator Jimmie Thomas yelled as he tackled Cole to the bottom, Lake Oswego Police Department spokesman Sgt. Tom Hamann told the Oregonian.

Royster’s mother reportedly called 911 upon witnessing the incident first-hand. He spent the night time in Clackamas County Jail on assault and disorderly conduct prices before posting $1,100 of his $eleven,000 bail. Cole has been suspended from his volunteer post pending an investigation and is scheduled to seem in court next month, the report stated.

[wp_admanager_pro_display_adzone id=”20″]

Oddly, Cole transferred from Lakeridge to Lake Oswego earlier than a short stint at Portland State during a journeyman post-highschool football career — just as the Portland State-certain Royster transferred from 2011 state champ Lake Oswego to Lakeridge following a sequence of racist tweets directed at him from at the very least three of his classmates.

Any coach worth his salt ought to have been delicate to Royster’s state of affairs, particularly in an age when everybody on any faculty employees should concentrate on the dangers of bullying — cyber or otherwise — however then again Cole was a volunteer, which makes the very fact he’s only been suspended from his submit all the more puzzling.

Oregon lands high-scoring transfer Joseph Young and hopes to get him eligible immediately

Joseph Young (USATSI Oregon received a late boost last summer when it landed one-year transfer Arsalan Kazemi to plug a hole in its frontcourt.

It’s possible Houston transfer Joseph Young could do the same for next season’s backcourt if he’s able to get eligible immediately.

Young, Houston’s leading scorer last season, canceled all his visits to other schools and committed to Oregon on Friday, according to multiple reports. He’ll have a chance to seek a waiver to play right away based on the precedent the NCAA set last year when it granted Trey Zeigler that right after he left Central Michigan when the school fired his dad as head coach.

It’s always dangerous to rely on the NCAA to follow precedents, but there are similarities between Young’s departure at Houston and Zeigler’s at Central Michigan. Young left Houston earlier this month when his father refused reassignment, opting to quit his job rather than accept a demotion from director of basketball operations to a community service role.

Whenever Young becomes eligible in Eugene, whether that’s as a redshirt junior for the 2013-14 season or as a redshirt senior the following year, his scoring ability will help the Ducks. The former top 100 recruit averaged a team-high 18.0 points per game and shot 42.5 percent from behind the arc last season as a sophomore, leading Houston to a solid 20-13 season.

If Young were to beat the odds and play next season, the possibilities are tantalizing for the Ducks.

They could start a backcourt of Dominic Artis, Young and Damyean Dotson with UNLV transfer Mike Moser and returning forward Ben Carter in the frontcourt. They’ll still miss the toughness and rebounding Kazemi and Tony Woods provided, but that’s a talented enough unit to challenge Arizona for the Pac-12 crown and make another run in the NCAA tournament.

If Young cannot play until the following year, then outside shooting is not such a strength for next season’s team. Regardless, Oregon coach Dana Altman continues to find transfers capable of helping his program sustain its success.
