UConn No. 1 in Lincoln; Stanford draws No. 2

Connecticut has landed within the Lincoln Region as the top seed for the women's NCAA tournament, which begins Saturday.

The Huskies (34-zero) will likely be making an attempt for a document ninth NCAA title, which might break a tie with Tennessee for most all-time.

Fellow unbeaten Notre Dame (32-0) additionally picked up a No. 1 seed as host of the Notre Dame Area, with Tennessee drawing the top seed in the Louisville Area and South Carolina getting the No. 1 seed within the Stanford Area.

Notre Dame plays in opposition to Robert Morris on Saturday. UConn opens Sunday in opposition to No. sixteen Prairie View.

It units the stage for the former Massive East rivals to meet in an historic national championship game and is simply the second time two groups have entered the NCAA match undefeated.

In the event that they do both get to Nashville, the Irish can be all that stands between Geno Auriemma and a report ninth title.

"We actually have not talked, I wager hardly at all, about this national championship or what number it's or any of that," Auriemma stated.

Regardless of being the 13th girls's staff to go unbeaten throughout the regular season, the Irish have felt almost unappreciated with most of the talk centered on the Huskies. Coach Muffet McGraw does not appear to mind.

"I like it as a result of we are able to get a chip on our shoulder and head into the event with a bit of chip," she said.

Although UConn and Notre Dame didn't play this season, the two teams know plenty about one another having met 12 instances over the previous three seasons. Notre Dame is not intimidated by Connecticut; the Irish have gained seven of the previous 9 meetings with the Huskies.

"It was very unusual to go through a complete season with out playing them, we're so used to it, 3 times yearly," McGraw stated. "We have gotten pretty good at beating them the last couple of years."

Earlier than the potential meeting of unbeatens, the 2 may need to go through SEC powers Tennessee and South Carolina, who also earned No. 1 seeds.

Whereas it is the twenty second time that the Girl Vols have earned a high spot, it's the primary for the Gamecocks. The Huskies, Lady Vols and Gamecocks all may should play on an opponent's residence court docket with a trip to Nashville on the line. Stanford, Notre Dame, Louisville and Nebraska, who're all internet hosting regionals, had been a mixed fifty two-3 at residence this season.

The Lady Vols, who gained the SEC tournament championship, are the highest seed in the Louisville Regional and would also like nothing more than to interrupt the tie with Connecticut and win their ninth NCAA title. They open up against Northwestern State and will probably be trying to end a five-12 months drought of not making the Closing 4. The Girl Vols won't have an easy path. West Virginia is the second seed. Host Louisville is the three seed and Maryland is the four.

Tennessee was concerned in the one different meeting between unbeatens. The Lady Vols routed Liberty within the opener of the 1998 tournament when both have been undefeated.

Like their SEC rivals, South Carolina would not have an easy street to the Ultimate 4. The Gamecocks may face an inspired younger North Carolina group in the regional semifinals before potentially taking part in host Stanford.

The Tar Heels and their stellar freshman class, led by Diamond Deshields, beat the Gamecocks in December. The Tar Heels also might have coach Sylvia Hatchell again on the sidelines at that point. The Corridor of Famer battled leukemia throughout the common season.

Whereas Hatchell's status is unknown for the match, Baylor shall be lacking coach Kim Mulkey for the first game. She is suspended for the primary round sport against Western Kentucky for comments she made last season after shedding to Louisville within the regional semifinals.

"I have not talked to the workforce in depth about me not coaching in the first recreation," Mulkey stated. "I will watch it on television at dwelling… I at all times tell the workforce something might happen to me on that sideline and it's best to be able to coach your self."

Connecticut may have to beat host Nebraska in the regional semifinals if each groups make it that far.

The host faculties have been chosen in October. Tennessee did not bid to host a regional because of a scheduling conflict at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Auriemma mentioned his school did not bid as a result of he didn't just like the concept of getting colleges host regionals.

"I do not imagine in it," Auriemma said. "I do not think it is fair and I informed our administration, 'We're passing on it. I don't want to do it.' So we did not."

Louisville coach Jeff Walz also would not like the concept of host websites for the regional rounds. Walz cited Louisville's eighty two-eighty one upset of prime-ranked Baylor in last 12 months's Oklahoma Metropolis Regional semifinal as evidence.

"I exploit us as an example," Walz stated. "If we played Baylor at Baylor last yr, I am not sure we win that game.. I am an enormous proponent of enjoying regionals on neutral flooring and I'm excited that we will again to."

The choice to have schools host regionals was made in an effort to attract larger crowds.

Last season, the NCAA posted an average attendance of 5,883 for all event games, a 21-p.c improve over 2012. But the event had posted average attendances of a minimum of 6,400 every year from 1998-2005.

The common attendance for regional rounds last yr was 7,a hundred, a 38-% improve over 2012 but a far cry from 10 to fifteen years in the past. Average attendance within the regional rounds had been over 8,000 5 occasions in a seven-yr stretch from 1998-2004.

"I believe residence courts are a real a part of the women's event versus the men's event," Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer said.

Next 12 months, the regionals will likely be back at impartial websites.

Auriemma has one idea for serving to these impartial sites draw massive crowds.

"We do have to search out, I believe, 4 cities which are hotbeds or probably, for ladies's basketball and we have got to offer them an opportunity to host the regionals, and give it to them for a few years at a time, instead of only a one-shot deal," Auriemma stated.

The Huskies have made it to the Closing Four in a file six straight seasons. They hope to make it to Nashville to maintain that streak alive.

If the Huskies do win the national championship it would be the fifth time they went undefeated in a season. This would be the first time that they gained 40 games, joining Baylor as the only teams ever to perform that feat.

The defending national champions have won games by an average of 36 points. They open up at home towards Prairie View A&M on Sunday evening. The Lady Panthers grew to become the ninth team to reach the NCAA event with a shedding file when they won the Southwestern Convention championship.

Tennessee will be making its 33rd straight look in the NCAA match, entering into the sector ever year. 5 teams will probably be making their first trip – Akron, North Dakota, South Dakota, Winthrop and Wright State.

Whereas these colleges will be getting their first taste of the NCAAs, Chattanooga's Jim Foster grew to become the first coach to take four totally different groups to the NCAA tournament.

The non-public school didn't reveal the value of the 10-yr deal, which is able to start when its contract with adidas expires on the finish of June, but sources told ESPN.com that the worth of the deal, in money and merchandise mixed, is worth about $90 million.

That might make the deal price greater than the $eighty two million adidas is paying in money and product to Michigan over 10 years.

Notre Dame
Notre Dame and Underneath Armour have agreed to a ten-year deal price $90 million in cash and merchandise mixed, according to sources, that makes it the richest shoe and attire deal in faculty sports.

The deal may ultimately be worth even more to the Fighting Irish, as Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick famous that it allows the college to take a number of the cash in company inventory.

As of 12:30 p.m. ET Tuesday, shares of Under Armour have been up more than 3 p.c on the day and up greater than 80 % over final year.

Below Armour CEO Kevin Plank mentioned he first set foot on the Notre Dame campus in 1997, coincidentally the 12 months that adidas' first deal with the school started. That 12 months, Plank mentioned Underneath Armour's revenues had been $110,000. In 2013, Under Armour initiatives sales of $2.25 billion.

"We love the company we're partnering with, and we will not wait to develop with them," Swarbrick mentioned. "We do not believe we're partnering with a $2 billion firm. We're partnering with a $20 billion firm."

Swarbrick mentioned that whereas followers' focus could be on the uniforms, this deal is as a lot about working with Below Armour to share info that can improve know-how.

"We're in a really competitive business the place the margins between a 12-win season and an eight-win season are so small," he stated. "Mining the info is among the next frontiers, and provided that this deal is 10 years, we better be focused on those issues."

Underneath Armour presently has schoolwide offers with 12 other schools: Auburn, Hawaii, Maryland, Texas Tech, Boston Faculty, Utah, Northwestern, St. John's, Navy, Colorado State, South Florida and South Carolina.

Regardless of a history of pushing the envelope, Plank said he understands what Notre Dame means and says his company will deal with the varsity as a singular entity.

"Texas Tech is completely different from Maryland is different from Notre Dame," Plank mentioned. "We do not have to invent any new history. We do not have to tell any new tales. Notre Dame is sort of merely Notre Dame."

In an announcement that famous its 17-year partnership would come to an finish after this school yr, adidas said, "As with each business choice, we weigh our funding against the value to our model."

One point within the talks that was not negotiable was Under Armour getting any signage in Notre Dame Stadium.

"It is simply a type of issues that's just so central to our identity," Swarbrick mentioned. "We need to be Augusta-like in that method, and that is why after we discussed it one time it was by no means brought up in dialog once more.

"As an alternative, I agreed to let them put their emblem on the athletic director."

Sources: ND chooses Under Armour for gear

Notre Dame will use Under Armour gear for all its team sports when its apparel deal with adidas expires at the end of the school year, sources told ESPN.

Under Armour emerged as the leading candidate for Notre Dame in the last month. Sources say Under Armour founder and CEO Kevin Plank flew to South Bend, Ind., on Thursday to meet with school officials.

Pat Connaughton

Last month, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick denied reports that the school had made a decision to go with Under Armour, saying he was conducting a full review with all the major players, including Nike. Swarbrick did say a decision likely would come after Jan. 1.

"We have been very happy with adidas, " Swarbrick told ESPN. com's Matt Fortuna at the time. "But it is just good business to use the expiration of a contract to review all options. "

Notre Dame's deal with adidas began in 1997. In 2005, the German shoe and apparel company signed a 10-year deal that lasted through this school year. When Notre Dame signed the deal, it was the top priority for adidas, but things changed when adidas began providing shoes and apparel for the University of Michigan in 2008. NCAA Prediction Rutgers vs. Notre Dame College Bowl Game Preview & Pick

ncaa picks notre dame

Rutgers Scarlet Knights (6-6) vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (8-4) 12/28- 12:00PM EST

NEW ERA PINSTRIPE BOWL- Bronx, NY

Line: ND -14.0

Over/Under- 53.0

The No. 25 Notre Dame Fighting Irish will take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Saturday in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl with hopes of closing out the season on a positive note for what has been a disappointing year to Irish standards.

A year ago, the Irish found themselves in the BCS championship thanks in part to a magical season that ended in a blowout loss to Alabama and this year expectations were high once again as they found themselves at 7-2 on November 2nd before dropping two out of their last three.

Notre Dame (8-4) fought hard at then-No. 8 Stanford in their regular-season finale back on November 30, but in the end fell 27-20, as Tommy Rees threw two picks late in the fourth quarter.

Not good enough obviously. Proud of the guys and my teammates and how we fought all year but you don’t come to Notre Dame to go 8-4, and everyone understand that,” said Rees. “You have to be better.”

The Irish have a long history of some memorable games in the Bronx going all the way to back to 1928 to as recent as 2010 when they beat longtime rival Army 27-3.

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly had this to say about the Irish returning.

We were privileged to play in New York City and Yankee Stadium in 2010. The treatment our university received from the Steinbrenner family, the New York Yankees and the entire organization was unlike anything we’ve experienced in my tenure at Notre Dame,” he said.

Starting next season, the Irish will be part of the ACC bowl lineup, which will include the Pinstripe Bowl, which is now four-years old.

Rutgers (6-6) also suffered a disappointing season losing three in a row before beating South Florida 31-6 to become bowl eligible for their eighth time in nine years. The Scarlet Knights will be moving from the AAC to the very competitive and tough Big Ten starting next year and would like a win Saturday to carry that momentum going into a new conference.

But, to have any chance against the Irish, the Scarlet Knights must get it together on defense where they gave up 38.0 points in their previous seven games before shutting down a woeful South Florida team.

The Rutgers secondary has been torched this season allowing 311.4 passing yards per game and have given up 3,596 yards through the air… the most in school history, so look for Rees to take advantage of a porous Rutgers defense where he has passed for 2,938 yards and 27 touchdowns with a 138.1 passer rating.

Notre Dame’s TJ Jones leads the receiving corps with 1,042 yards and nine touchdowns.

Oddsmakers don’t have much faith in the Rutgers defense stopping the Irish as they have made Notre Dame a huge (minus -14.0) point favorite going into Saturday’s contest, but get the latest odds up until kickoff right here at Wonder Punter.

Despite the sub-par seasons from both teams, expect a big crowd come Saturday as both teams are expected to draw well, especially the Irish with their fan base and the Scarlet Knights proximity to Yankee Stadium.

It’s a really attractive matchup,” embattled second-year Rutgers coach Kyle Flood said.

The Irish have won all four meetings against Rutgers and I predict an easy victory on Saturday for Notre Dame to take home the trophy.

N. Dame wins 1st NCAA men’s soccer title

CHESTER, Pa. – Confetti rained down, the Notre Dame struggle music “Victory March” blasted over the loudspeakers and everybody on the Fighting Irish’s soccer crew ran to 1 side of the sector to celebrate.

For the first time within the faculty’s proud athletic history, Notre Dame was on prime of the men’s school soccer world.

Notre Dame
Notre Dame won the NCAA men’s soccer title for the primary time in school historical past Sunday.

Led by objectives from Andrew O’Malley and Leon Brown, and one other massive game from College Cup co-Most Excellent Participant Harrison Shipp, Notre Dame received its first men’s soccer title with a 2-1 victory over Maryland on Sunday at PPL Park. The Fighting Irish finished the season 17-1-6.

“We’re all smiling big smiles,” mentioned sixty eight-year-old coach Bobby Clark, who received his first title in 27 years coaching at Dartmouth, Stanford and Notre Dame.

Patrick Mullins, the nation’s main scorer, scored for Maryland (17-four-5). The Terrapins have been attempting to win their fourth national championship and third under coach Sasho Cirovski.

“They’re worthy winners and I am genuinely blissful for Bobby for all he’s achieved for school soccer,” Cirovski mentioned. “I hope he enjoys this one. At Maryland, we shoot for the celebs yearly. We intention excessive. And once you aim that top and when you don’t attain it, you continue to end up on the moon, which is larger than most individuals.”

Shipp, a finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy as the nation’s greatest player, set up O’Malley’s profitable purpose with a wonderfully positioned free kick in the 60th minute. O’Malley leaped for Shipp’s kick and directed a header past goalkeeper Zack Steffen’s outstretched arms.

Coming into Sunday’s title sport, O’Malley, a senior defender, had scored just twice in his collegiate profession – and, in keeping with Clark, he missed a few chances throughout the season.

But he did not miss when it counted.

“The goal itself was actually put on a silver platter for me,” O’Malley stated. “It could have been powerful for me to screw it up, I suppose. Harry simply performed an attractive ball and all I needed to do was redirect it to the again put up.”

O’Malley, from close by West Chester, said it was further special to score the championship-deciding objective in front of a lot of his household and pals, who made the quick commute to watch him play at PPL Park.

“I sort of jokingly mentioned after the sport – but I’m a little bit critical -that people suppose I’m good now,” O’Malley said. “So, hopefully, I will simply experience that.”

Brown tied it at 1 within the fortieth minute with a tricky-angle shot. He entered the game as a reserve when Vince Cicciarelli was forced to go away when he broke his collarbone in the tenth minute.

Luke Mishu and Nick Besler have been both credited with assists after Besler flicked on a long Mishu throw-in proper to the foot of Brown, who slid a troublesome-angle shot past Steffen.

Mullins, Maryland’s own Hermann Trophy finalist, opened the scoring for the Terrapins in the 35th minute.

Moments earlier, Mullins thought a penalty kick was warranted when a volley from Alex Shinksy from cleared off the aim line by what looked to be the arm of Notre Dame’s Patrick Hodan. But Hodan was not referred to as for the hand ball and then Mullins used his personal hand to carry the ball down and deposit a shot past goalkeeper Patrick Wall.

“Within the heat of the moment, I hit it down with my hand and, like all good ahead, I hit it within the web,” Mullins mentioned. “That is not who I’m and I’m very upset in how that play resulted… I will regret that one for the rest of my life.”

Mullins, who shared College Cup Most Excellent Player honors with Shipp, had 19 objectives this season and completed his college career with forty seven, second in program historical past.

But for Cirovski, it was the character Mullins displayed in admitting to an intentional hand ball that shows what MLS groups will probably be getting when the Maryland senior is likely selected as one of many prime picks in next month’s draft.

“After I construct my stadium, I will bronze a statue with him out front,” Cirovski stated. “He is made from the most effective stuff on earth. It affected him. It affected him loads… His conscience was hurting.”

For Shipp – who completed his senior season with 12 targets and 11 assists, including three within the College Cup – it was not solely gratifying to win a national title but to do so for Clark.

“I believe this program has known for the previous few years that we’re headed in the suitable path,” Shipp said. “We had an amazing regular season (final yr) however I feel we kind of realized that it was time for this program to take the next step. And we thought the one logical place to try this was to succeed in the ultimate 4 and win a nationwide championship.

“And to do it for this guy – our coach – is wonderful. He’s most likely probably the most underappreciated college soccer coach in the nation.”

NOTES: The Besler family has received two major soccer titles in the past week. Besler’s brother, Matt, a U.S. national workforce defender, won the MLS Cup with Sporting Kansas Metropolis last Saturday… In Mullins’ 4 years at Maryland, the Terrapins have lost only two games wherein he scored… In the semifinals Friday, Notre Dame beat New Mexico 2-zero, and Maryland topped Virginia 2-1… Along with Shipp and Mullins, Patrick Hodan (Notre Dame), Besler, O’Malley, Grant Van De Casteele (Notre Dame), Tsubasa Endoh (Maryland), Steffen, Jordan Allen (Virginia), Darius Madison (Virginia) and Michael Calderon (New Mexico) have been chosen to the School Cup All-Event Team.

Notre Dame in the Pinstripe Bowl

Report: Notre Dame To Play In Pinstripe Bowl

Notre Dame plans to accept a bid to the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium, according to multiple reports.

A person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press that Notre Dame officials have informed bowl organizers that the Fighting Irish will play in the Dec. 28 game in New York against a team from the American Athletic Conference.

CBSsports. com earlier reported Notre Dame's decision.

The Fighting Irish were left without a pre-arranged bowl destination this season. Notre Dame's final choice came down to the Hawaii Bowl or the Pinstripe Bowl. The Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego also was a possibility.

Notre Dame regularly tries to play games in the New York area, where it has a large following. The Irish played Army in a regular-season game at Yankee Stadium in 2010, the first college football game at the new stadium. Notre Dame will play Syracuse next season at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N. J.

The Fighting Irish (8-4) will likely play Rutgers if the Scarlet Knights beat USF to become bowl-eligible on Saturday or Houston (8-4).

Notre Dame didn't have a contractual tie-in with any bowls this season, so in a sense it was BCS or bust. The Irish were left to wait for spots to open in third-tier games. The Big 12 didn't have enough bowl-eligible teams to fill its spot in the Pinstripe Bowl.

The Pinstripe Bowl becomes a Big Ten-Atlantic Coast Conference game starting in 2014. Notre Dame joins the ACC next season, though not for football. It will have access to the ACC's bowl lineup.

NCAA Prediction Week 14 College Football Game Preview/Pick- #25 Notre Dame vs. #8 Stanford

ncaa picks

NCAA Free Pick and prediction Notre Dame vs. Stanford

#25 Notre Dame (8-3) @ #8 Stanford (9-2) 11/30- 7:00PM EST

Line: STAN -15.0

Over/Under: 49.0

With the Pac-12 North title already won and a shot at the Rose Bowl next week with winning the Pac-12 championship, No. 8 Stanford will turn their attention to hosting the No. 25 Fighting Irish Saturday night in a game where nothing more then winning and playing for pride will be stake.

Stanford (9-2) has been on roller-coaster ride the last three weeks with the Oregon Ducks, winning, then losing, then winning the Pac-12 North Division title for sure after last weeks Oregon lost and Cardinal win.

Stanford will play the #12 ranked Arizona State Sun Devils next weekend for the Pac-12 championship and the right to represent the Pac-12 in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena in January.

I remind people that we don’t go through all the ups and downs that maybe even the media and the fans go through because we keep our minds on our jobs,” Stanford coach David Shaw said. “If we win a big game, they don’t cancel the next week. If we lose a game, they don’t cancel the next week.”

Shaw stressed to his team, just worry and focus on the week ahead and it will work out.

It’s been very emotional,” Stanford wide receiver Ty Montgomery said. “You definitely learn a lot of lessons. It’s kind of a blessing to experience some highs and some lows. Depending on how you look at it, you can always take something positive out of something negative. It’s been a good experience to be able to fight and bounce back.”

It’s simple now for the Cardinal… beat the Sun Devils next week and make a trip to their fourth-straight BCS bowl game… the Rose Bowl.

However, a win against Notre Dame is still important because if Stanford losses to Arizona State, their win over the Irish could mean the difference between the Alamo, Holiday, or Sun Bowls…. all less then desirable than a BCS bowl.

The Cardinal will be looking for sweet revenge after last year’s game in South Bend that saw the Irish win 20-13 in overtime on a disputed play when Cardinal Stephan Taylor was ruled by officials to have been stopped short of the goal line on fourth down. That Stanford loss helped keep the Irish magical season of 2012 alive.

That loss is history and Shaw wants his team focused for Saturday night.

We don’t go back in our rooms and cry, which for some reason is what people wants us to do, because that’s what some people do,” Shaw said. “When you have a stake in it, and you’re in it, you take the lessons learned and go forward.”

The game plan for Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly this time around is to establish the run, can eliminate the Cardinal from big plays and keep them under 20 points on the scoreboard.

Going in Saturday’s game, the Cardinal rank third in the nation against the run, allowing just 89.5 yards per game, while the offense is averaging 33.4 points a contest. And to boot, have won 15 straight home games.

So, it’s easy to see why all the numbers point to Stanford who have been favored at (minus) -15.0 points over the Irish. Of course, the line may move, so be sure to check through Wonder Punter up until game time for the latest spread.

The Irish (8-3) have had a season that saw them move up, down, out and finally back in the polls again. They believe last week’s tough game against unranked BYU will help them be mentally ready and physically prepared to put up a fight against the highly-favored Cardinal.

We need to continue to build on that and develop that, and that’s the way we’ve got to play this game of football,” Brian Kelly said.

I’m taking my chances with the Cardinal who have won three out of the last four meetings against the Irish and this year have the more talented and seemingly better prepared football team.

Kelly has described the series between the two schools as “a great rivalry.”

PICK: Stanford

State Of The Florida Gators

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Embattled Florida Gators coach Will Muschamp should be feeling higher about his job security after receiving votes of confidence from university president Bernie Machen, athletic director Jeremy Foley and South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier on Wednesday.

“As athletic director, I’m a thousand p.c satisfied that Will Muschamp is the guy to steer this football program,” Foley stated in an announcement posted on the varsity’s athletics website. “Nothing has modified in what we really feel about Will Muschamp from the day we hired him. Everyone around here needs the same thing. We need to do what is right for the University of Florida.

Will Muschamp

Will Muschamp needs two wins in the last three games against South Carolina, Georgia Southern and Florida State to maintain alive the Gators’ 22-year streak of playing in a bowl recreation.

“We understand that this football season has not gone the way any of us needed it to go, actually not the way in which our fans wished it to go and, most of all, not the way Will Muschamp wished it to go.”

With 4 straight losses, Florida (4-5, 3-4 SEC) has fallen below500. The Gators had been crushed soundly 34-17 by Vanderbilt on Saturday on homecoming. It was Vandy’s first win at Florida since 1945.

Muschamp, in his third season because the Florida coach, has a 22-13 file and is 13-10 within the SEC and 1-1 in bowl games. He has five years remaining on his contract at a mean wage of $2,928,791.

“We now have a history of being profitable. We have a historical past of fixing issues once they need to be fixed, and that is what’s going to happen right here,” Foley mentioned. “And Coach Muschamp is the one that may repair it.”

Machen echoed those sentiments in his assertion.

“I need the Gator Nation to know that I have full confidence in Coach Muschamp and his leadership of the football program,” he stated.

With troublesome video games remaining towards No. 10 South Carolina on Saturday and No. 2 Florida State on Nov. 30, the Gators are in a combat to proceed a 22-yr streak of going to a bowl game.

Gators Now we have a historical past of being successful. We have now a history of fixing issues once they should be fastened, and that is what’s going to occur here. And Coach Muschamp is the one that will fix it.

- Jeremy Foley, Florida ADVERT

“I’m fine,” Muschamp stated Monday when asked about the personal toll of a difficult season. “I am a football coach. I go to work each day trying to find ways to get this football group better and get them to improve on how we play. That’s part of your job whether or not you are 9-1 at this level or you’re the place we are.

“It’s irritating. It’s very irritating, but you work and individuals are dependent on you to do a superb job, do an excellent job for the players and do a good job for the college. That is my job.”

The endorsements for Muschamp started Wednesday morning with Spurrier, who won the Heisman Trophy at Florida as a participant and guided the Gators to their first nationwide championship as a coach.

“I admire the best way he coaches his crew, runs the present down there,” Spurrier stated throughout the weekly SEC teleconference. “Last 12 months, I think he was SEC Coach of the Year. I feel after they beat FSU they were third within the nation in that BCS poll, and if Notre Dame had misplaced to Southern Cal, I believe Florida would have been in the nationwide championship sport final yr.

“Obviously this 12 months they’ve had a rash of accidents everywhere in the workforce that’s actually damage them. However they’ve still acquired plenty of ballplayers and so they’re nonetheless a really exhausting-nosed, bodily-type crew.”

Florida has lost 10 players for the season, together with seven starters. Quarterback Jeff Driskel broke a bone in his lower right leg early in Week 3 in opposition to Tennessee. Florida’s greatest participant, senior defensive sort out Dominique Easley, tore his ACL in practice days later. Tailback Matt Jones suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee throughout a Week 6 loss at LSU. Three beginning offensive tackles have missed important time with accidents this season.

The listing stored growing, as Muschamp introduced this week that starting middle linebacker Antonio Morrison would miss the remainder of the season with torn cartilage in his right knee.

Spurrier stated he’s by no means seen that many injuries on certainly one of his teams.

“Our groups, for some motive, we have not had a whole bunch of accidents,” he said. “I do not know why, however I don’t suppose I’ve ever seen quite as many as they’ve had.”

NCAA Prediction College Football Week 12 Free Pick- # Stanford vs. USC

stanford

NCAA Preview, Pick and Prediction for the Stanford vs USC Game Week 12

#4 Stanford Cardinal (8-1) @ USC Trojans (7-3) 11/16- 8:00PM EST

Line: STAN -4.0

Over/Under: 45.5

Coming off their biggest win of the year last Thursday night against then No. 2 Oregon, the No.4 Cardinal will now try to keep the momentum going by going into the Coliseum and taking on a resurgent USC team as they try to keep pace in the BCS race and win a PAC 12 North title and conference championship.

The Cardinal (8-1, 6-1) coming off an impressive win over the Ducks have to be feeling good about their chances on Saturday evening as they have beaten the Trojans four-straight times and can control their own destiny with a win and only a weak Cal team and a season finale match-up against Notre Dame standing in their way to hosting a second-consecutive Pac-12 championship on December 7th.

I think we’re at that point in the season now where we can’t afford to go up and down,” Stanford coach David Shaw said. “It’s November, and there’s only one way you can play in November, and that’s all-out.”

The Cardinal know they still have an outside shot at a possible national championship with a #4 ranking in the BCS Poll.

(The BCS) is all hypothetical scenarios. It doesn’t matter at this point. We lose a game, whew, it’s all for naught,” linebacker Shayne Skov said. “The recipe for us ending up anywhere relevant is for us to win the rest of our football games.”

USC will be trying to stop a four-game (three in a row in L.A.) skid at the hands of the Cardinal with a win on Saturday as they are riding a three game win streak and four-of-five since the Lane Kiffin firing back in September.

Interim coach Ed Orgeron has given the Trojans new life as they sit tied for second place with the Bruins for the Pac-12 South title one game behind Arizona State who they lost to earlier which led to Kiffen’s firing.

First year Trojan starter Cody Kessler has sparked the Trojans offense and seems to have found his grove during the winning streak having struggled earlier in the season.

Kessler has completed 74.3 percent of his passes for 9.24 yards per attempt with four touchdowns and one interception during the three win streak.

The Trojan running game has also picked up, however with the Stanford defense allowing only 98.7 rushing yards per game… tops in the conference, we can see why the points spread has made them the favorites, but be sure to follow the latest odds here at Wonder Punter up until game time.

I too predict a Stanford win come Saturday with a terrific defense, a seasoned quarterback in Kevin Hogan and a powerful running game (205.0 yards per game) led by senior Tyler Gaffney who is third in the Pac-12 with 1,043 yards while averaging 4.9 per carry with 14 total touchdowns.

It will be an entertaining game but too much Stanford.

PICK: Stanford

With Week 11 of college football starting Thursday night, here is my picks along with the betting lines for each of the BCS Top 25 teams in action. Find your favorite game(s) and place your bets with us!

#1 Alabama Crimson Tide (8-0) vs. #13 LSU Tigers (7-2) 11/09- 8:00PM EST

Line: ALA -12.5

Over/Under: 55.0

Expect another classic SEC battle between two great football teams. May be closer then spread, but with the Tide at home, I like them to cover.

PICK: Alabama

#2 Florida State Seminoles (8-0) @ Wake Forest Demon Deacons (4-5) 11/09- 12:00PM EST

Line: FSU -35.0

Over/Under: 54.5

With the way the Seminoles have been playing with Heisman Trophy candidate Jameis Winston running the offense, the oddsmakers have them heavily favored to win easily on the road.

PICK: Florida State

#3 Oregon Ducks (8-0) @ #5 Stanford Cardinal (7-1) 11/07- 9:00PM EST

Line: ORE -10.5

Over/Under: 61.0

The oddsmakers have the Ducks favored big on the road against a tough Stanford defense. I’m comfortable with the Ducks covering the line but feel it may go under on the score.

PICK: Oregon

#6 Baylor Bears (7-0) vs. #10 Oklahoma Sooners (7-1) 11/07- 7:30PM EST

Line: BAY -14.5

Over/Under: 73.5

Wow 73.5 points on the over/under, Baylor can score but they haven’t been tested with a good defense yet that the Sooners bring in. Tough decision on total points. I like the spread better with Baylor to win.

PICK: BAYLOR

#8 Missouri Tigers (8-1) @ Kentucky Wildcats (2-6) 11/09- 12:00PM EST

Line: MIZZ -14.5

Over/Under: 56.5

I like the way Missouri plays on both sides of the ball and see no problem handling the Wildcats on the road to cover.

PICK: Missouri

#9 Auburn Tigers (8-1) @ Tennessee Volunteers (4-5) 11/09- 12:00PM EST

Line: AUB -7.5

Over/Under: 55.0

I have to agree on the spread with Auburn favored in a close one. Expect the Vols to play inspired football at home.

PICK: Auburn

#11 Miami-FL Hurricanes (7-1) vs. Virginia Tech Hokies (6-3) 11/09- 7:00PM EST

Line: MIA -6.5

Over/Under: 44.0

Can the Canes bounce back after last weeks beating at Florida State? Oddsmakers think so, but not as much being that they are at home.

PICK: Miami

#14 Oklahoma State Cowboys (7-1) vs. Kansas Jayhawks (2-6) 11/09- 4:00PM EST

Line: OKST -31.0

Over/Under: 53.5

Big road win last week and it will be a big home win this week… look for the Cowboys to roll over the Jayhawks and cover on all fronts.

PICK: Oklahoma State

#15 Texas A&M Aggies (7-2) vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs (4-4) 11/09- 3:30PM EST

Line: TA&M -19.5

Over/Under: 66.5

Johnny Manziel to light it up on the Bulldogs. Safe bet on the spread.

PICK: Texas A&M

#16 Fresno State Bulldogs (8-0) @ Wyoming Cowboys (4-4) 11/09- 12:15PM EST

Line: FRES -9.5

Over/Under: 79.0

The O/U at 79.0 is so-so for my taste…. points will be scored but I feel more comfortable with the spread.

PICK: Fresno State

#19 UCLA Bruins (6-2) @ Arizona Wildcats (6-2) 11/09- 10:00PM EST

Line: UCLA -1.0

Over/Under: 56.0

This is a tough one to call for me… I like the Bruins all around, but at only with a (minus) -1.0 favorite on the road… I would tempted to bet the points better on the over.

PICK: UCLA

#20 Louisville Cardinals (7-1) @ Connecticut Huskies (0-7) 11/08- 8:30PM EST

Line: LOU -27.5

Over/Under: 49.0

Louisville is a still a solid football team on both sides of the ball… Cardinals to cover on all betting lines.

PICK: Louisville

#21 Central Florida Knights (6-1) vs. Houston Cougars (7-1) 11/09- 7:00PM EST

Line: UCF -11.0

Over/Under: 64.5

Both teams can score, I like the over on 64.5.

#22 Arizona State Sun Devils (6-2) @ Utah Utes (4-4) 11/09- 4:00PM EST

Line: ASU -7.0

Over/Under: 64.0

Even though the Sun Devils go into Utah as the favorites, the Utes are a different team at home. It’s a toss-up for me on this one.

PICK: Pick-Em

#23 Notre Dame (7-2) @ Pittsburgh Panthers (4-4) 11/09- 8:00PM EST

Line: ND -4.0

Over/Under: 51.0

The Panthers will be ready for this one at home… I see a possible upset. I like the Panthers and the points.

PICK: Pittsburgh

#24 Wisconsin Badgers (6-2) vs. Brigham Young Cougars (6-2) 11/09- 3:30PM EST

Line: WIS -7.5

Over/Under: 55.5

Because it’s a Badger home game… Wisconsin to cover the (minus) -7.5

PICK: Wisconsin

#25 Texas Tech Red Raiders (7-2) vs. Kansas State Wildcats (4-4) 11/09- 12:00PM EST

Line: TTU -3.0

Over/Under: 60.0

KSU is having a down year, are on the road against a high-powered offense in Texas Tech who have lost two in a row and looking to take it out on somebody… but yet the oddsmakers have them only favored at a (minus) -3?? Give the points to KSU and take the Red Raiders.

PICK: Texas Tech

NCAA College Football Game Recap- #22 Michigan St. Whips #21 Michigan

msu vs. mich

#21 Michigan- 6

#22 Michigan St.- 29

Saturdays game between No. 21 Michigan Wolverines and No. 22 Michigan State Spartans was to be a battle between two rivals, instead became a laugher as the Spartans battered the Wolverines for a full 60 minutes and showed their defensive might in a 29-6 blowout and put the Spartans (8-1, 5-0 Big 12) in the drivers seat for a Legends Division championship.

Spartan coach Mike Dantonio took a calm approach leading up to this weeks big game.

Don’t worry about all the things that are being said—just keep your mouth shut,” Dantonio said. “Get ready to play, start the game and finish stronger than when you started. We are going to let the lion out of the cage at 3:30, and that’s what happened.”

Michigan State dominated the Wolverines sacking the quarterback seven times and held Michigan to a whopping minus -48 yards rushing… their worst rushing performance in school history. Minus -41 of it in the first half.

Two years ago was nothing,” Michigan State linebacker Denicos Allen said. “it was a lot worse today, and I think they felt it.”

Today’s loss by Michigan (6-2, 2-2 Big 12) was their biggest to their division rival since 1967 and the Spartans have now won five of the last six meetings.

We’re going to bully people—that’s the game of football,” Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi said. “We didn’t want any personal fouls—we had one stupid one, I think on special teams at the end—we talked really about not getting any penalties. … They’ve got a good football team, but we’ve got a great football team.”

Michigan State is ranked No. 1 in all of college football in total defense, and they showed why on Saturday taking it to the Wolverines from beginning to end.

A lot of negative yardage plays. There were some pretty good runs once in a while, but when you snap the ball for a 20-yard loss and get sacked I don’t know how many times, your yardage part of it isn’t very good,” Michigan coach Brady Hoke said. “You put yourself behind the 8-ball, not executing and then you’re forced into doing things you don’t want to do.”

Saturday was all about the Spartans defense and with it, Michigan has now lost 10 straight road games against ranked opponents—the last victory was 2006 at Notre Dame.
