Top-ranked UConn shoots 49 percent from the industry in its dominant victory over Number 2 Duke.(USATSI)

CLARINGTON, N. C. – No . one Connecticut came into Cameron Indoor Arena and did something no other group in women’s basketball has been in a position to do.

The particular Huskies dominated Duke.

Again.

UConn routed the second-ranked Azure Devils 83-61 on Tuesday night time behind 21 points and a career-high seven 3-pointers from Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis in her first game back again from an injury.

Breanna Stewart had 24 factors and 11 rebounds for the Huskies (11-0), and Stefanie Dolson acquired 14 points and Bria Hartley finished with 13.

UConn shot 49 %, held the Blue Devils with no field goal for a critical 8-minute stretch while pushing its prospect well into the 20s and converted the 52nd meeting of Em. 1 and 2 into the newest blowout in this series.

“I think I would end up being less than honest if I said I think we could come in here and earn by 20, ” said trainer Geno Auriemma, who earned their 850th career win. “Simply since we haven’t played in [12 days]. We weren’t sure what we should were going to get from [Mosqueda-Lewis and Morgan Tuck]. And I thought Duke coming to home and they’ve got a bunch of upperclassmen.. it would be a little bit different. ”

It wasn’t.

UConn won the seventh straight in the series — and the previous six were made a decision by an average of nearly 30 factors.

Chelsea Grey had 13 points and Haley Peters finished with 11 regarding Duke (10-1), which saw the 24-game winning streak at Cameron j. snapped – a run that will dated to UConn’s last go to in 2011.

“We didn’t do what we needed to perform defensively, ” coach Joanne L. McCallie said. “We didn’t come back the way we need to rebound. And we demonstrated little patience on offense in critical times. ”

The Huskies, the only people to beat Duke on its house floor since 2008, now have performed it three times since anybody otherwise has found a way to do it as soon as.

They also ruined the Blue Devils’ undefeated begin with a rout for the third amount of time in four seasons.

Stewart did much of the early harm in her first appearance ahead of the Cameron Crazies – or at least that which was left of them, with the Duke learners on winter break. She has been four points shy of the profession high she matched last 30 days against Oregon.

And every time Duke threatened to create a run, the Huskies found a method to get Mosqueda-Lewis a clean seem from behind the 3-point series. She was especially accurate in the corners while showing no indications of rust after missing eight video games with a nerve contusion on her correct elbow.

“I don’t think we would have won the overall game the way we won it without having her, ” Auriemma said.

The Blue Demons, who spent the second half looking to claw their way back into the video game, pulled to 65-52 on At the Williams’ layup with just under 7 minutes left.

After a timeout, UConn worked the particular ball around the perimeter to Mosqueda-Lewis, who swished her fifth a few to restore the Huskies’ 18-point guide and help them pull away for their seventeenth consecutive victory.

“That’s something that coach has been informing me since last year – which i need to shoot every shot such as it’s the last shot, and take every shot like it’s a significant shot, ” Mosqueda-Lewis said.

Tricia Liston plus Alexis Jones each finished along with 10 points for Duke, which usually earned only five free includes and was 4 of eighteen from 3-point range.

“Horrible shot selection, inch McCallie said. “Chucking up pictures. ”

The particular Blue Devils were denied their particular first victory against a Number 1 team since 2007 — and were in serious risk of being run right off its house floor in the first half.

Stewart scored fifteen points in the half, and twelve of those came during the 13-minute period in which the Huskies outscored Duke 35-11 and turned a one-point debt into a 38-15 lead.

“You can’t necessarily earn a game in five minutes, but you can drop a game in five minutes if you don’t perform certain things, and then your body language as well as the way you react in individuals five minutes, ” Auriemma said. “If we score enough points throughout those six minutes and you avoid, it’s going to be hard to catch up. ”

For the Blue Demons, this one couldn’t have started a lot worse. They missed 12 consecutive shots during that drought before points finally started to click late within the half behind Gray.

She reeled off 6 straight points before Chloe Wells’ 3-pointer with 35 seconds remaining in the half pulled Duke in order to 41-26.

I am lucky to be on this workforce and blessed to be on this group and taking part in for Thibs [coach Tom Thibodeau] and the coaching workers.”

The feeling is mutual inside the Bulls organization. Thibodeau was happy to see Rose again on the ground and was happy with the 25-12 months-old’s effort.

“It was good to have him back for sure,” Thibodeau mentioned. “I believe you see how he makes the game simpler for everybody. And the speed with which he plays, you bought to get accustomed to that, too. His teammates must get used to it again. He has to get used to it. But general I believed he performed very, very effectively. Some rust, however that is to be anticipated. However you might see as each minute went by he acquired increasingly comfy, and he ran the group great.”

Rose acknowledged throughout the week that he thought he’d have some rust, and he was right. He turned over the ball 4 times and seemed a little bit out of sync at times.

“We’ve been seeing it in follow,” Thibodeau stated of Rose’s aggressive play. “He’s hit the floor, he is aggressive, that’s the best way he performed earlier than the damage and he is back to enjoying like that, and for him that’s his sport. The speed, the quickness, but the energy to associate with it. That’s what makes him so particular and distinctive. There is no one like him.”

A noticeable distinction in Rose’s in-game routine is his new stretching regimen. After exiting the sport in the first quarter, he used a softball and then a smaller ball beneath his leg to keep it unfastened while he sat on the floor.

Rose even surprised the assembled media when he said he’s gained five inches on his vertical leap because the knee surgery in Might 2012.

LIVE BY THE NOISE, DIE BY THE NOISE: A LESSON THE SEATTLE SEAHAWKS REALIZED THE EXHAUSTING METHOD SUNDAY NIGHT TIME.

The Seahawks had been about to punt on their first possession when a suspiciously referee-sounding whistle rang out. Most of the Seahawks on the road stood up, so when the ball was snapped, the punt-block staff zipped proper previous the line and hammered Jon Ryan. The 49ers recovered the ball at the Seattle 33 as Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll lost his thoughts.. to no avail.

So, with the play and its ramifications clear, it’s time to widen the net. Someone blew that whistle, however who? It may have been a fan, yes, but we now have some other suspects in mind:

The refs: It’s a make-up name for final yr’s finish zone debacle.

Kaepernick: The man’s risking an eyebrow tonight, in any case.

Jim Harbaugh, 49ers coach: Unlikely. You attempt whistling with a clenched jaw.

Richard Sherman, Seattle cornerback: Just to set himself up for heroics.

Ken Griffey Jr., former Seattle Mariner: Hey, Russell Wilson’s star is quick approaching Junior’s in Seattle.

Pearl Jam, Seattle institution: Viral advertising for their next album gone horribly mistaken.

David Stern, former NBA commissioner: As a result of he is not carried out screwing over Seattle.

We might never know the reality.

Whenever we report about a player winning or losing more than a million dollars in a week playing online, more times than not that player is Viktor “Isildur1” Blom. Well, this week that was not the case.

On the flip side, the downslide of “MalACEsia” continued as he lost $1,055,541 in 2,526 hands over 25 sessions – an average loss of $417.87 per hand.

Other winners this week, albeit at a fraction of Heinecker’s score, were “proudlikeagoat” (+$436,227 in 23 sessions/1,570 hands), Alex “IReadYrSoul” Millar (+$349,650 in 15 sessions/1,242 hands), Gus Hansen (+$254,559 in 13 sessions/688 hands) and Kyle “cottonseed1” Hendon (+$223,216 in 6 sessions/269 hands).

Millar Over Blom in 10 Minutes; Heinecker Saturday’s Biggest Winner

Last week, Alex “IReadYrSoul” Millar lost $308,487 in just 1,018 hands of poker. On Saturday, Aug. 17, Millar rebounded by winning $273,000 playing $400/$800 no-limit hold’em against Viktor “Isildur1” Blom. Incredibly, he did so in just 40 hand over 10 minutes!

It was during that time that Millar won two significant pots over $200,000. Here’s a look at both:

Alex Millar & Viktor BlomAlex Millar & Viktor Blom

Hand #1: Millar ($142,758.50) opened for $2,700 only to have Blom ($127,239.50) three-bet to $9,600. Not to be outdone, Millar four-bet to $24,800 and then called when Blom shoved all in. Just like that, there was a $254,479 pot on the line.

Hand #2: Blom ($102,047.50) opened for $2,400 and then called when Millar ($137,945.50) three-bet to $7,500, which brought about a flop of 7-Spades4-Clubsj-Diamonds. Millar bet $6,400, Blom called and the 9-Clubs arrived on the turn. This time Millar slowed down with a check and Blom took the opportunity to fire out $18,400. Millar then woke up with an all-in check-raise and Blom called off his remaining $69,747.50. Millar had turned the nuts with the 10-Hearts8-Hearts, which was ahead of Blom’s j-Clubs9-Diamonds for a turned two pair. The 5-Hearts failed to pair the board on the river and Millar was awarded the $204,095 pot.

[wp_admanager_pro_display_adzone id=”29″]

As if things couldn’t get any worse for Blom, he went on to lose $179,000 to Kyle “KPR16” Fray at the $2,000/$4,000 fixed-limit Omaha Hi/Lo tables. Blom mitigated his losses in other games and ended up losing $236,000 on the day.

In was also on Saturday that Niklas “ragen70” Heinecker won $300,800, enough to make him the day’s biggest winner. The vast majority of that came at the $400/$800 NLHE tables, where the following pot took place:

Heinecker Continues His Winning Ways

Winning $300,000 in a day is great, but doing it back to back is even better. That’s a feeling Niklas “ragen70” Heinecker got to experience last weekend after he followed up Saturday’s $300,800 win with a $328,900 one playing $400/$800 NLHE on Sunday.

In his biggest pot, action was five handed when “HelicopterBen82” ($80,000) opened for $2,400 under the gun only to have “John R Turk” ($153,964.29) three-bet to $8,000 from the button. Heinecker ($143,148.60) then made it $19,200 from the small blind, “HelicopterBen82” got out of the way, and “John R Turk” five-bet to $42,200. A six-bet shove from Heinecker followed and “John R Turk” called.

“John R Turk”: k-Diamondsk-Clubs
Heinecker: a-Spadesk-Spades

The two agreed to run it twice, and Heinecker got lucky when the 5-Heartsa-Hearts3-Spades5-Clubs8-Clubs on the first gave him a winning pair of aces for half the pot. Much to “John R Turk’s” dismay, the 5-Diamondsa-Diamonds2-Spades7-Diamonds10-Hearts on the second did the same and Heinecker scooped the $289,944 pot.

That pot was nice, but it wasn’t the biggest of the day. That happened at a six-handed table when “HelicopterBen82” ($131,133.50) opened for $2,800, “Call_911” ($151,824.89) called and “MalACEsia” ($287,859.09) three-bet to $10,400 from the button. The blinds folded, “HelicopterBen82” called and then “Call_911” four-bet to $30,300. “MalACEsia” responded with a five-bet to $55,000, “HelicopterBen82” folded and “Call_911” moved all in. “MalACEsia” called the additional $96,824.89 and it was off to the races.

“MalACEsia”: q-Clubsq-Diamonds
“Call_911”: a-Heartsk-Hearts

The 4-Spades8-Hearts9-Hearts flop didn’t hit “Call_911” directly, but it did give him a flush draw to go with his overs. The 2-Hearts turn completed the said flush, and just like that “MalACEsia” was drawing dead. The meaningless 10-Spades was run out on the river for good measure to give “Call_911” the $315,847 pot.

Heinecker Banks $803,000 in Wednesday Action

HeineckerHeinecker

It was German domination this week as evidenced by Niklas “ragen70” Heinecker’s performance on Wednesday, which is when he won a whopping $803,500. He did so by playing and winning $160,000 in a three-hour morning session, followed by a four-hour session in the evening when he won an additional $640,000.

In his biggest pot, action was six-handed when Heinecker ($500,005.40) opened for $2,000 from the hijack and cleared the field to “MalACEsia” ($201,175), who three-bet to $7,200 from the big blind. Heinecker called and it was heads-up action to the 9-Spades5-Diamonds7-Spades flop. “MalACEsia” led out for $9,600 and then made it $80,000 to go after Heinecker raised to $25,600. The German simply moved all in and “MalACEsia” called off his remaining $113,825.

“MalACEsia”: a-Spadesq-Spades
Heinecker: 8-Hearts6-Hearts

Heinecker had flopped the nuts, but he needed to avoid a spade to hold. That’s exactly what he did as the 7-Clubs and 2-Hearts appeared on the turn and river respectively. The $403,347 pot was shipped to Heinecker.

“MalACEsia” was ravaged by Heinecker, and a couple others, before finishing the day down $914,000. It was a devastating loss, but fortunately he was able to get $829,100 of it back on Thursday after grinding for 9.5 hours. During that time there were some monster pots.

In one, action was six-handed when “proudlikeagoat” ($171,832) opened for $2,400 from the hijack and “MalACEsia” ($311,099.20) three-bet to $7,200 from the cutoff. The button and blinds all folded, “proudlikeagoat” four-bet to $18,400 and the flop came down 9-Hearts10-Diamonds5-Hearts after “MalACEsia” called. “Proudlikeagoat” was first to act and led out for $39,000, which prompted “MalACEsia” to move all in. “Proudlikeagoat” called off the $114,432 he had behind and the cards were turned up.

“MalACEsia”: a-Heartsq-Hearts
“proudlikeagoat”: 8-Hearts6-Hearts

Both players had flopped a flush draw, but “MalACEsia’s” was best. He was actually out in front with his ace high, but “proudlikeagoat” was drawing to two live cards as well as a non-heart seven. The 10-Spades turn was of little consequence, while the 3-Hearts river gave both players the flush. “MalACEsia’s” was best and he won the $345,461 pot.

Even though he won that pot, “MalACEsia” did lose the biggest pot of the day, which was a $423,800 monster. Have a look:

You have to grasp the mentality of Wild followers.

We are, frankly, a fragile bunch. We love the game of hockey and we expect we know it better than another Individuals (and no less than 52 % of Canucks followers). But we are additionally principally Atlanta-North in the case of holding onto teams.

The Wild organization, typically very advertising-savvy, makes an attempt to bolster our self-confidence with the whole State of Hockey thing, which alternately stokes the embers of pride or serves as a mocking tribute to our struggles with self-doubt.

So exercises like this are tricky for us. Because, if we’re being trustworthy, it’s a little embarrassing to peruse our all-time roster. It’s a visit from the Ghost of North Stars Past, a reminder that they had to transfer to Texas to win the Cup, which implies there’s no Worsley, Goldsworthy, Meloche or Ciccarelli obtainable.

It’s additionally a visit from the Ghost of Risebrough Past, and the string of schlubs that Lemaire’s teaching system and brilliance allowed Doug to get by with signing to one-approach contracts during his reign of apathy. With all due respect to Lubomir Sekeras…you’re Lubomir Sekeras.

And it’s also a slap within the face with the chilly, lifeless fish of actuality that, though we love the sport like no other Americans, we do not have an excellent track record of manufacturing individuals who can play the game at its highest levels.

Minnesota….well Minnesota produces grinders. The Sons of Minnesota are like the Shoveler in Mystery Men: we shovel very effectively. For each Parise we’ve a homicide of Brotens, a passel Christians, a Wyatt Smith. Here a Mark Parrish, there a Darby Hendrickson. No, we aren’t a flashy lot.

Yes, the historical past of the Minnesota Wild is relatively unremarkable, in pretty much all aspects. Heck, many of the “best” players we’ve managed to stuff into a Wild uniform tend to have one factor in common: they peaked earlier than they obtained to St. Paul (e.g. Heatley).

But they are all we now have. So right here is our list.

Canada: Andrew Brunette

A veteran of not one, not two, but three expansion franchises, Andrew Brunette sits behind only Marian Gaborik in targets scored in a Wild sweater, and fourth total in assists and factors. While fellow Canadian Pierre-Marc Bouchard can tie goalies in knots (Bonjour, Monsieur Khabibulin), his history of injuries and incapacity to produce within the post-season (9 profession post-season factors in 21 games) easily yields to Brunette’s Wild playoff prowess, the cherry on the top of which is of course the objective that ended the profession of Patrick Roy, and different related play. While Brunette was not identified for his skating, dimension, or overwhelming skill, he does stand out in his constant play over his profession and his skill to make these round him higher.

Honorable Mentions: Bouchard, Wes Walz

Finland : Niklas Backstrom

Finland obviously comes right down to Mikko Koivu or Backstrom. It is particularly tough to choose since they’ve been with the crew for the pretty much the same amount of time (Koivu’s got yet another year). The Org has made the Wild Koivu’s crew however it could relatively simply be argued that Backstrom has been extra valuable to the group throughout their careers. He got here in and has constantly been number one ever since; Koivu needed to build his game and rep to get to the place he is right this moment.

For Koivu, the most typical argument towards him is whether or not or not his sport as we speak is worthy of how much he’s asked and paid to do. There are fewer questions on Backstrom’s sport, and although his final contract had a moderately lofty cap hit, he got here out of it with a brand new hit that’s remarkably decrease because he desires to play in Minnesota.

With that kind of gesture, who cares where a man comes from?

Backstrom is a high second-tier NHL starting goalie. Koivu is likely to be a second line center being asked to play on the top line.

Honorable Point out: Antti Miettinen… Oh, and Mikko Koivu

USA: Ryan Suter

It was tempting to talk about Zach Parise or Brian Rolston, however the ’13 season confirmed that Ryan Suter was the real prize when Chuck Fletcher gained the Parise/Suter Lottery on July 4, 2012. Suter spent more time on the ice this year than Mike’s Uncle Scoop, who’s spent a long time of winters trying making an attempt to land Sneaky Pete, the monster Northern, out on Lake Waconia. And consider me, he appears lots higher, too. After a shaky begin to the season (-7 within the first 10 games) learning to play with someone not named Shea Weber, Suter settled in and located his sport.

Adding to his value is how effectively Jonas Brodin established himself in a Wild sweater. Appearing as a mentor and a stabilizing issue for the young Swede, Suter performed himself into a Norris nomination and his companion nearly right into a Calder nomination.

As much as we like Parise and Rolston, neither can put that on his resume.

Honorable Mentions: Parise, Rolston

Sweden: Jonas Brodin

This one is a stretch, and we will cop to that immediately.

But considering that the one critical rivalry comes from Rickard Wallin and Kim Johnsson, we’re sticking with our story. Brodin was drafted in 2011, and arrived in North America a yr later, able to play in Houston. An damage slowed his improvement and later, accidents paved the best way to strive his hand within the NHL.

He never seemed back. He led all rookies in ice time and didn’t look out of place next to Ryan Suter. Granted, we think that Ryan Suter could make Martin Skoula appear to be an NHL defenseman, however we’ll still take a guy who can transfer the puck out of hurt’s method over the man who journeys on the Blue Line on a nightly foundation. Brodin’s skating is remarkable and his imaginative and prescient is what hockey wet dreams are made from.

Honorable Mentions: Wallin, Johnsson

Russia: Andrei Zyuzin

The pickings are fairly slim here. Exactly 4 Russians have donned a Wild uniform, and the others are … not outstanding. Frankly, the one thing that units Zyuzin apart here is that his title isn’t Sergei Krivokrasov, Maxim Sushinski, or Andrei Nazarov.

Honorable Mention: I don’t know, um, Vladimir Putin?

Slovakia: Marian Gaborik

Maybe the player with probably the most outright talent to ever grace the home locker room of the Xcel Vitality Heart, Marian Gaborik offered scores of Oohs and Aahs amongst Wild fans. The one factor that saved Gaborik from scoring was a hacky-sack. That mentioned, his speed was, and still is, an actual sight. Once you see him transfer up the ice, you surprise how a human being can transfer that quick on the ice with out assistance from an Acme Ice Rocket.

Also, not many gamers can release the puck from their stick and beat a goalie cleanly better than Gaborik. When paired with buddy and fellow Slovak Pavol Demitra, Gaborik was the most effective participant on the ice most nights. Over 125 games in two seasons with Demitra, Gaborik potted 72 targets and garnered sixty eight assists.

Honorable Mention: Demitra

Czech Republic: Martin Havlat

At 0.77 factors per game in two seasons, Havlat trumps Filip Kuba and Marek Zidlicky in production for the Wild. Havlat’s skating, stickhandling and on-ice vision made him an enormous part of the Wild for the two seasons he spent right here. However, his greatest value came in being the piece that brought Dany Heatley to the Wild.

Honorable Mentions: Kuba, Zidlicky

REST OF THE WORLD CATEGORY

Latvia: Sergei Zholtok

In the early years, Zholtok was one of many Wild’s most-dependable scorers. Throughout Zholtok’s three seasons with the Wild, he finished 4th, 5th, and 4th in scoring, respectively from 2001-2002 to 2003-2004. And he completed 4th in 2003-’04 despite getting traded on the deadline. Keep in mind: finishing prime 5 in scoring on those Wild groups was something akin to discovering the wheel, such had been the offensive struggles of these growth-era Wild teams.

Zholtok really personified the crazy, shocking, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid run to the Western Conference Finals in ’03: scrappy, onerous-working, unassuming…. Zholtok went dwelling to Latvia to play out the lockout, where his life would sadly end. Fittingly at residence, however on account of coronary heart problems – a destiny that was exhausting for most people who knew or rooted for him to reconcile.

Honorable Mention: Richard Park (South Korea), Owen Nolan (Eire)

Study finds that baseball games average less than 18 minutes of action

(USA Today) If you like non-stop action, baseball probably isn’t the sport for you.

At least that’s what a recent study conducted by the Wall Street Journal would suggest. According to their findings, the average three hour baseball game contains well over two and a half hours of killing time in the stands or at home, with just 17 minutes and 58 seconds of game action taking place.

Though that amount of time wouldn’t cover a weekly 30-minute sitcom with the commercials taken out, according to a WSJ study from 2010, it’s actually seven minutes longer than the average NFL game. So at least baseball gets the overwhelming nod in that regard.

Here’s a little more on the study, including how the Wall Street Journal came up with their final numbers for baseball.

The WSJ reached this number by taking the stopwatch to three different games and timing everything that happened. We then categorized the parts of the game that could fairly be considered “action” and averaged the results. The almost 18-minute average included balls in play, runner advancement attempts on stolen bases, wild pitches, pitches (balls, strikes, fouls and balls hit into play), trotting batters (on home runs, walks and hit-by-pitches), pickoff throws and even one fake-pickoff throw. This may be generous. If we’d cut the action definition down to just the time when everyone on the field is running around looking for something to do (balls in play and runner advancement attempts), we’d be down to 5:47.

So maybe baseball doesn’t really have an advantage over the NFL.

The next natural question to ask after learning these findings has to be: How does all of that downtime divide up?

The Journal study covers that as well. Of the three games they watched, the time between batters averaged 33 minutes, 39 seconds, which nearly doubles the action time. The time between innings averaged 42 minutes, 41 seconds. And the time between actual pitches averaged 1 hour, 14 minutes and 49 seconds.

If you’ve ever wondered why baseball tries to make it a goal to speed up the game, this study should put it into perspective. For many of us, the downtime is an opportunity to soak in the atmosphere at the stadium or play armchair manager at home. For the casual fan, tag-along friend, or even beat writers who attend up to 162 games a year, it can seriously drag. Especially if the game isn’t competitive. And when the game drags, out comes the dreaded “Wave” or something else that irritates those paying attention.

Obviously there’s not a lot baseball can do to significantly cut down on the inactivity, but it’s always in their best interests to try. The idea is to get people to want to come back and spend their money again, and eliminating as much of the inertia as they possibly can goes a long way towards winning over those straddling the fence.
