If there are rumors about a coach getting traded – as is the case with Jim Harbaugh – there are certain to be rumors about mentioned coach's gamers being unhappy with stated coach. And on this case, there are!

Ann Killion of the San Francisco Chronicle reviews (via PFT) that Harbaugh's "act has worn thin" among a number of members of the locker room.

"One source with inside knowledge of the team says that Harbaugh's act has worn thin within the locker room, particularly amongst some key 'face of the 49ers' sort players," Killion writes. "While the group is winning, that is not a problem. However a number of losses might expose a widening rift."

Ought to we be stunned by this? No, not really. For starters, if you've received the smoke of the trade rumors with the Browns popping up around the combine, you're going to get the fire that is rumors about 49ers gamers being sad. It comes with the territory.

And secondly, it's exhausting to think about that Harbaugh's act does not wear thin on a few of the players in the locker room.

However you know what doesn't wear skinny? Profitable. And beneath Harbaugh the Niners win like crazy. They're 36-11-1 in his three seasons teaching in San Francisco, good for a whopping766 winning proportion.

The 49ers have been to 3-straight NFC Championship games, they're about to open up a brand new stadium in Santa Clara and so they'll host Super Bowl L after the 2015 season in that very stadium.

There's plenty of explanation why they should desire a coach who does nothing however win to stay round regardless of how people within the locker room may reportedly really feel.

Madden: Niners owner has to choose Harbaugh

If the 49ers only keep one of these guys, John Madden says it should be Jim Harbaugh. (USATSI)
If the 49ers only hold one of these guys, John Madden says it should be Jim Harbaugh. (USATSI)

Former NFL coach and broadcaster John Madden lives simply outside of San Francisco, so he’s had a front row seat to the ongoing drama that the 49ers have develop into. It is gotten so unhealthy in the Bay Space that there may come a day where the crew has to choose between coach Jim Harbaugh and normal manager Trent Baalke, in response to CBS Sports activities NFL Insider Jason La Canfora.

If that day comes, Madden thinks the 49ers ought to dump Baalke and maintain Harbaugh, “It is rather a lot easier to get a suit than it’s to get a coach,” Madden advised KCBS on Wednesday. “The proprietor has to choose the coach.”

Principally, Madden would not think the 49ers should eliminate Harbaugh because they won’t discover anybody better to replace him with.

“Jim Harbaugh has executed an important job of coaching within the NFL irrespective of how you set it,” Madden mentioned. “Getting to a few championship games in a row with that group or with any group is a heck of a thing that he is accomplished… You inform me the place they’re going to get a man that is any higher than him.”

Madden is aware of one thing about dysfunction, he won Super Bowl XI as the coach of a Raiders group owned by Al Davis. The 77-12 months-previous Pro Football Corridor of Famer says the ability performs need to cease in San Francisco.

“The best mannequin [for working the workforce] is they get along,” Madden mentioned. “Eventually they have to decide collectively. It might probably’t be a power play. It could actually’t be the place one needs one participant and one needs the opposite, and so they have to have a power play over it. And in the event that they do, I believe the coach has to have it, as a result of if he would not just like the man and if he is not going to educate him and play him, then it doesn’t do any good to draft him.”

Madden thinks that Harbaugh ought to completely have the ultimate name on the 49ers roster, “When you get right down to fifty three [players], I feel the coach has to do that. He has to decide who the players are going to be,” Madden said. “The opposite energy – wage cap and all of that stuff – I would not need something to do with that and I don’t assume coaches ought to.”

Source: 49ers’ Brooks fined for hit on Brees

Brooks Fined For Hit On Brees

The NFL fined San Francisco 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks $15,750 for his hit Sunday on New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Brooks was penalized for a personal foul, which negated a sack and fumble and enabled the Saints to keep up possession for a recreation-tying area objective by Garrett Hartley within the fourth quarter. The Saints won 23-20 as Hartley made another discipline objective as time expired.

Brees described the hit as a clothesline tackle, with the preliminary contact going down at the chest and going throughout his neck and chin as he went to the bottom.

Brooks was fuming after the game, incredulous that he was penalized for the hit.

“I did not hit him with my hand or my helmet,” Brooks informed reporters, in response to the San Francisco Chronicle. “I basically bear-hugged him. That is just how football is played. I feel this s- is bulls-. Football, the best way they name stuff nowadays, it is watered down. It ain’t real no more.”

Brees instructed reporters Tuesday he does not suppose the hit was malicious, or even intentional, however that he believes it was a penalty.

“I don’t think what Ahmad Brooks did was intentional at all,” Brees stated. “I think he is a heck of a soccer player and a clean football participant. A hard-nosed, clean football participant.

Ahmad Brooks and Drew Brees

Linebacker Ahmad Brooks says he shouldn’t have been flagged for this hit on Drew Brees that negated a 49ers fumble recovery.

“But you look at the results of that … and again in actual time … you’ll be able to gradual it down all you want and watch it and say, ‘Look where the [arm is].’ However I can tell you how I felt when I bought hit. It felt like I obtained my head ripped off. And I stand up and I’ve bought a mouth filled with blood. So there was little doubt in my mind that, ‘Hey, it is gonna be a penalty.'”

49ers coach Jim Harbaugh mentioned Monday that he thought Brooks’ hit was authorized.

“Once we grade a player, if he has a penalty, we give him a minus,” Harbaugh stated, in response to the team’s website. “We did not assign a minus on that play. Thought he made a fantastic play, simply didn’t get the outcome.”

On Tuesday, NFL vp of officiating Dean Blandino mentioned the officials in Sunday’s recreation obtained the decision proper.

“You may’t make forcible contact to the pinnacle or the neck area, even when the contact begins beneath the neck and rises up,” Blandino said in an appearance on NFL Network. “If there’s pressure to that contact, it is a foul. Watch the initial contact, maybe across the shoulder, but it surely rides up into the neck area and brings the quarterback down with drive. That is why the flag was thrown for pointless roughness.”

49ers’ Brooks fumes over flag on Brees hit

Reaction To Brooks’ Hit On Brees

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks was fuming Sunday after he was known as for a roughing the passer penalty that negated a Drew Brees fumble that might have sealed a victory over the New Orleans Saints.

Ahmad Brooks and Drew Brees

Linebacker Ahmad Brooks says he shouldn’t have been flagged for this hit on Drew Brees that negated a 49ers fumble restoration.

Brooks burst into the backfield and leveled Brees with simply over three minutes left within the fourth quarter, forcing a fumble that was recovered by teammate Patrick Willis. If the play had stood, the 49ers, up 20-17 on the time, may need been in a position to run out the clock.

Brooks was flagged for hitting Brees in the head and neck on a violent sack that left Brees with blood on his chin. The Saints capitalized on Brooks’ penalty with a tying 42-yard discipline aim by Garrett Hartley, then gained 23-20 on a 31-yarder by Hartley as time expired.

“I did not hit him with my hand or my helmet,” Brooks told reporters, in response to the San Francisco Chronicle. “I mainly bear-hugged him. That’s just how football is performed. I feel this s- is bull-. Football, the best way they call stuff nowadays, it’s watered down. It ain’t real no extra.”

Brees, however, believes the call was right.

“All I bear in mind is simply getting garments-lined in the chin, and as I’m on the ground I am saying, ‘That’s bought to be a flag,”’ Brees said.

“One in all my teammates kind of picked me up and said, ‘Are you all right?’ And he said, ‘Don’t be concerned, there is a flag.’ I mentioned, ‘All proper, good.”’

49ers coach Jim Harbaugh stated Monday that he thought Brooks’ hit was legal.

“Once we grade a player, if he has a penalty, we give him a minus,” Harbaugh stated, in line with the group’s web site. “We did not assign a minus on that play. Thought he made an amazing play, simply did not get the consequence.”

On Sunday, Brooks even instructed the officers made the decision as a result of the Saints were playing at house.

“It was Drew Brees. And perhaps the officials were for the New Orleans Saints a little bit bit greater than the 49ers. I think it is B.S., man,” he said, in line with the Chronicle.

No Super Bowl loser has returned to the Super Bowl the next year since the Buffalo Payments in 1993, and the 49ers (6-4) have put themselves in a tough place, falling three½ games behind the NFC West-leading Seattle Seahawks (10-1).

“It was very irritating. The sport may have gone a very totally different direction than what it went,” Brooks mentioned. “I was simply mad as a result of that was a big play in the sport. We lost, and that’s probably the explanation why.”

Whereas he was protesting the penalty referred to as on him, Brooks took the opportunity to marketing campaign for the NFL to guard defensive players, as properly.

“They’re making an attempt to guard the gamers around the NFL as a lot as attainable, but I feel they defend the offensive gamers a little bit an excessive amount of,” he advised reporters. “We still get chopped in the defensive line. We nonetheless get reduce-blocked from the offensive linemen and so they do not do something about that. If you are going to shield everyone, then how about they alter the principles on [the] chop block?”

NFL Week 11 Game Recap- Saints Win 23-20 To Remain Perfect At Home

San Francisco 49ers (6-4)- 20

New Orleans Saints (8-2)- 23

New Orleans kicker Garret Hartley kicks three 4th quarter field goals and the game winning 31-yarder as time expires as the Saints rally late to beat the San Francisco 49ers 23-20 on Sunday to stay in first place in the NFC South and remain perfect at home with a 6-0 mark.

With the Saints trailing late in the fourth 20-17, New Orleans got a break when an apparent forced fumble by Ahmad Brooks and recovered by Patrick Willis became a 15-yard penalty when Brooks was flagged for an illegal hit to the neck of Drew Brees that left him bloodied.

It was very frustrating. The game could have gone a totally different direction than what it went,” Brooks said. “I was just mad because that was a big play in the game. We lost, and that’s probably the reason why.”

All I remember is just getting clothes-lined in the chin and as I’m on the ground, I’m saying, ‘That’s got to be a flag,’” Brees said. “One of my teammates kind of picked me up and said, ‘Are you alright?’ and he said, ‘Don’t worry, there’s a flag.’

I said, ‘All right, good.’ Just took a moment, and you’ve got to get ready to go.”

After the penalty was assessed, Brees guided his offense down the field where the Saints had to settle for a tying 42-yard kick with 2:06 left.

Hartley, who had missed four field goals in the Saints’ previous three games, was not to be denied in this one as he made all three of his field goal attempts in the fourth quarter, including the game winner.

This team and this coaching staff and this organization never took their foot off the gas with me and here we are sitting at 8-2 and getting ready for Atlanta,” Hartley said.

San Francisco’s Colin Kaepernick passed for two touchdowns, but had another sub-par performance numbers wise with only 127 yards passing on 17 of 31 and sacked three times against one of the league’s best defenses as the 49ers (6-4) lost their second straight to fall 3½ games behind Seattle in the NFC West.

The greater the challenge, the greater the glory,” Niners coach Jim Harbaugh said. “That’s the way I look at it. I’m proud of our guys for the way they fight, and if we continue to do that, we’re going to win a lot of games.”

New Orleans (8-2) remains in first place 1½ games ahead of Carolina with the Panthers playing on Monday night against New England.

Bress finished 30 of 43 for 305 yards and one touchdown, but the team as a whole committed three turnovers, but thankfully the Saints defense did enough to keep them in it with a chance to escape with one.

You’re going to have games like this, Brees said. “You still find a way to win against a playoff-caliber opponent with a lot at stake at this point in the season. That says a lot.”

New Orleans receiver Marcus Colston finished with five catches for 80 yards to become the Saint’s all-time leader in yards receiving with 7,930, passing Eric Martin’s two-decade-old-mark of 7,854.

It’s definitely an awesome accomplishment,” Colston said. “It had a lot to do with some of the guys in this locker room and this coaching staff, but we’re in the midst of something a lot more meaningful right now.”

NFL Prediction Week 11 Game Preview/Pick- 49ers vs. Saints

49ers

49ers vs Saints Prediction and Pick

San Francisco 49ers (6-3) @ New Orleans Saints (7-2) 11/17- 4:25PM EST

Line: NO -3.0

Over/Under: 47.5

Making their first trip to the Big Easy since this year’s Super Bowl loss, the San Francisco 49ers will have yet another challenge to face when they must find a way to slow down the New Orleans Saints… a team that thrives under the Superdome lights in an NFC showdown Sunday afternoon.

New Orleans (7-2) has been dominating this year at home, outscoring their opponents 176-75 while going undefeated at 5-0 and looking to stay ahead in the NFC South over the hot Carolina Panthers.

In what will be another measuring stick for both teams, the 49ers (6-3) will be trying to avoid back-to-back defeats after dropping a tough 10-9 home loss to the Panthers last Sunday at Candlestick.

We’ve got a tough game coming up, and we’re not going to wallow in (the loss to Carolina),” 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said. “We’re going to move to New Orleans.”

New Orleans will be looking to win yet another home game after last weeks thrashing of the Dallas Cowboys on national television where they accumulated a regular season team-record 625 yards and recorded an NFL-record 40 first downs against the Dallas defense.

You don’t play many games like that, and every once in a while you find yourself on the good end and sometimes you find yourself once in a while on the bad end,” New Orleans coach Sean Payton said. “You hope when your career is done you have more experiences on the good end.”

The Saints also found some balance against the Cowboys on the offensive side of the ball where Drew Bress passed for 392 yards and the running game came up big with 242 yards after going in averaging only 79.8 yards per contest.

It’s important for us to have that balance,” Payton said.

Bress is on fire at home where he has completed 74.4 percent of his passes and averaged 367.2 yards passing while tossing 18 touchdowns and only two interceptions… none in the last three home games.

If not that wasn’t enough, the Saints average 463.6 yards and 35.2 points per game at the Dome, but San Francisco’s defense ranks fourth in the league allowing only 17.2 points per game, so something as to give.

And, it’s that 49ers defense that the oddsmakers are banking on making the Saints only slight favorites with only a (minus) -3.0 in the latest line spread, but as always, Wonder Punter will provide the latest odds up until kickoff, so check back often.

With last weeks loss still fresh in their minds, San Francisco must focus their attention on the offensive side of the ball where the Saints defense is allowing only 18.1 points.

After averaging 34.8 points a game during their five-game win streak and 357.6 yards, the Niners could only put together 9 points on 151 yards total against the Panthers.
BetOnline
The way we look at it as a unit. Offensively, we didn’t play well enough to win the game,” Harbaugh said. “Across the board, we take accountability for that and have fingerprints on it. I’m not going to go through and dissect position by position, raking anybody over the coals. I don’t think that’s the best thing for us.”

Coach Harbaugh added… “I think their mindset will be what it’s always been, it’s a blue-collar mindset. That involves fixing things, building things, sutures in our hands and the weapons are in our hands, our fate is in our hands.”

With Mario Manningham making his season debut last week, he will provide an added boost to an offensive looking to get back on track.

Tight end Vernon Davis is questionable for Sunday after suffering a concussion against the Panthers and receiver Michael Crabtree is an outside shot for his season debut following his Achilles injury in May.

San Francisco has won two straight over the Saints, but come Sunday and the way the New Orleans plays at home, I would be hard-pressed not to go with the Saints as my favorite.

NFL Week 10 Game Recap- Carolina Stops San Francisco To Win Fifth Straight

carolina-panthers-san-francisco-49ers

Carolina Panthers (6-3)- 10

San Francisco 49ers (6-3)- 9

Over/Under: 43.0

Much hoopla was made about the Carolina Panthers winning streak with people saying they haven’t beaten a “quality” opponent during their run… well now the Panthers can put all the nay sayers to bed (at least this week) with a dominate defensive performance on the road against the reigning NFC champs San Francisco 49ers on Sunday by shutting them out in the second half and notching that “signature” win 10-9 and extending their winning streak to five games.

Colin Kaepernick had no answer against the swarming Panthers defense as he was held to only 91 yards on 11 of 22 with one interception. He was also sacked six times for a 42.0 passer rating.

Kaepernick’s interception to Drayton Florence in the final minute assured Carolina’s victory while putting an end to San Francisco’s five-game winning streak.

San Francisco now sits at 6-3… 2 ½ games out of first place in the NFC West behind Seattle (9-1).

I don’t think it really bothers us, it gives us the opportunity to step up to the challenge. We did,” said wide receiver Steve Smith. A win like this can boost us, a win like this can continue to give us life throughout the season, and make us feel like we’re working for something, and we are.”

The difference in the game for Carolina (6-3) was Graham Gano’s 53-yard field goal with 10:05 remaining in the game as the defense took over from there shutting down any 49er drive after that.

This game is a maturity jump for us, because in the past what I’ve been part of, we’ve been somewhat uncertain of how we will turn out in these types of games,” Carolina quarterback Cam Newton said. “We needed that type of game, just to be in a dog fight, in somewhat of a barnburner, to show what type of team this really is.”

Cam Newton’s numbers were only slightly better then Kaepernicks going 16 of 32 for 169 yards, an interception and four sacks for a 52.7 rating.

Not the kind of numbers you would expect from two quarterbacks who have been leading their offenses to put up some points this past month.

As the game went on, it got more and more intense,” Smith said.

The 49ers may be without the services of Vernon Davis and rookie safety Eric Reid to concussions as they get set to take on the New Orleans Saints and the Washington Redskins in back-to-back road games.

We’ll do what we do, bounce back, regroup, refit and reorganize and come back this week,” coach Jim Harbaugh said.

San Francisco did however get All-Pro linebacker Aldon Smith back, but played limited snaps after missing five games due to undergoing treatment for substance abuse.

Receiver Mario Manningham also returned to action, making his season-debut after nearly 11 months due to knee surgery. He ended the afternoon with three catches.

Not the kind of offensive performance we were expecting, but both defenses stepped up to keep it entertaining.

For the most part, I don’t really think they did anything that necessarily confused us, 49ers center Jonathan Goodwin said. “They only gave up nine points. It’s hard not to give them credit. We expected it to be a physical game. Did we expect to score only nine points? Nah.”

This one really did come down to the way the defense played,” Panthers coach Ron Rivera said. “Any time you put yourself in a position where you can force the other team to kick field goals, you get a chance to win.”

And that they did and with the win as Carolina now sits one game back in the NFC South behind New Orleans (7-2).

NFL Sunday Night Football Preview/Pick Texans vs. 49ers

Houston Texans (2-2) @ San Francisco 49ers (2-2) 10/6 8:30PM EST

Line: SF -6.5

Over/Under: 41.5

In what figures to be a good battle between two football teams looking to get back to their winning ways, the Houston Texans travel into Candlestick Park on Sunday night for a Sunday night clash with the San Francisco 49ers.

The 49ers have regained some confidence in their play following a dominating win against the lowly St. Louis Rams last Thursday night 35-11. Coach Jim Harbaugh said, “I thought the team stared adversity in the face (with) a lot of grit and determination. The guys played with great energy and great toughness.”

Expectations have been high for both teams this season. Many thought to be Super Bowl contenders, however the Texans and Niners have both struggled early. San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick says, “We know the talent we have on this team. We know what we are capable of.”

San Francisco is still without All-Pro Aldon Smith (rehab facility), and Patrick Willis (groin) is still uncertain.

Winning betting sytem Click Here!

As for Houston, after starting the season 2-0, they have dropped their last two games, and want to avoid losing three straight. Quarterback Matt Schaub needs to improve after being picked off for six interceptions so far. But, despite the struggles of Schaub, Texans coach Gary Kubiak has no plans to make a quarterback change. “We’re a very capable football team, but we’ve got to be a more consistent football team.” On Schaub, Kubiak says, “ He’s our quarterback.”

Expect the Texans to rely heavily on running back Arian Foster more on Sunday night, who rushed for 171 total yards last Sunday against a good Seahawks’ defense. The Texans may be without All-Pro linebacker Brian Cushing (concussion), who leads the team with 33 tackles.

The Texans and 49ers have split their previous two meetings. Each winning at home by three points.

I believe both are still a lot better then their record indicates. If Texan quarterback Matt Schaub can be more consistent, and stay away with costly interceptions, I like their chances. In the end though, I believe with the 49ers playing at home will give them enough win in a close one.

49er Going for a name change- ‘Hitner’ after fine

San Francisco 49ers security Donte Whitner, who has revealed he was fined $21,000 by the league for a hit throughout last Thursday evening’s victory over the St. Louis Rams, said Wednesday he is dropping the “W” from his final name.

“I actually put the paperwork in yesterday afternoon. Just waiting to get the paperwork out,” he said in a conference name with the Houston media. “So from right here on out till I retire, my name will be Donte Hitner, without the W.”

Earlier Wednesday, he had revealed his name change in a tweet.

Whitner also confirmed to reporters in Santa Clara, Calif., that he was altering his identify. He mentioned he’d like to get it modified on his uniform by Sunday’s recreation however admitted that is likely to be unrealistic.

“That’s what I do. It is my final title and removing a letter makes it fairly cool,” he stated, including that some fans already name him “Hitner” anyway.

The name change will not be low-cost for Whitner. A league official advised ESPN’s Darren Rovell that NFL guidelines stipulate that if a player changes his identify throughout an NFL season, he is required to purchase all of the remaining stock of merchandise with the old title that hasn’t been bought.

Whitner mentioned he had thought-about the title change within the offseason but that his mom wouldn’t go for it.

Apparently, she has modified her mind.

“I’m perpetually going to be her son and her little boy, so I’ve to take heed to what she says,” Whitner said. “In spite of everything of these hits and people speaking about it, I requested her again three nights in the past. She said, ‘I don’t have an issue with it, go ahead.’ So I went forward and did it yesterday.”

Whitner has been vital of the NFL’s crackdown on hits and has stated “it seems like on any massive hit, they make the call on what the hit looks like.”

The protection, who also has urged the NFL should use replay to find out if hits warrant penalties, mentioned his identify change is a protest against the league’s mandate in “the correct way.”

“I’m not out there head-searching, hitting guys helmet to helmet. I need to present guys can hit onerous and bring worry doing it the authorized means,” he stated.

“It is a powerful sport. This is a sport for grown males. After we signed up for that, everyone knows that. Should you don’t need to play football, you do not need to be bodily, you don’t need to be hit, do not come around guys that prefer to hit. That’s the game of football, simply do it the precise way.”

Whitner mentioned he is not frightened that his title change will make him a bigger goal for flags and fines in the future.

“You may continue to take a look at me, but when I am doing it the best method, what can you do?” he said.

49ers coach Jim Harbaugh, who spoke Wednesday before Whitner addressed the media, was unaware of his safety’s title change, but quarterback Colin Kaepernick was a fan of the transfer.

“It’s kind of catchy.. Good change,” he stated.

Whitner appeared to show his shoulder into Givens in a successful try and knock the ball free. He was referred to as for pointless roughness.

He has made up T-shirts with #LegalHitner on the front that he will sell to drum up support. He mentioned he’s produced about one hundred twenty five T-shirts and can soon open for enterprise.

FAN“The squeaky wheel gets the grease.” That outdated saying is getting an actual workout this season.

Mike Wallace whined after Week 1. He got targeted 11 instances and posted a 9/one hundred fifteen/1 line in Week 2. Antonio Brown whined during and after Week 2. In Week three, he popped off for 9/196/2 in opposition to the Bears.

That brings us to Frank Gore. After the Week 3 loss to the Colts, Gore was spotted reportedly giving coach Jim Harbaugh some “choice phrases.” Presumably, it had to do with the meager eleven carries he obtained in the loss. Properly, the Niners responded by riding Gore hard in Monday night’s 35-11 win at St. Louis. He sat out most of the fourth quarter and still rushed 23 occasions for 153 yards with a touchdown.

Everybody needs to know who’s the following squeaker to get greased. How about Hakeem Nicks, who had no catches on one target in Week 3. He’s scheduled to match up with a hobbled Brandon Flowers (knee) Sunday.

Anyway, back to Gore. Let’s not overreact to a shredding of an atrocious Rams protection that additionally obtained eaten up by DeMarco Murray (26/a hundred seventy five/1) in Week three. However not like most 30-yr-previous backs, Gore nonetheless has plenty of juice. He also performs behind arguably the league’s greatest run-blocking line and a positive schedule the remainder of the best way. The Niners still get to play the Jaguars, Redskins, Rams once more and Falcons in fantasy’s Super Bowl week. I might not contemplate this a promote-excessive moment on Gore.

D-WEALTHY’s DUD
Isaiah Pead was a surprise inactive 90 minutes before kickoff, sending house owners scrambling to get Daryl Richardson back into lineups. That turned out to be an enormous mistake. Richardson began and played just about each snap within the first half, but had actually no operating room. He also didn’t break any tackles and had an terrible drop. Richardson completed the primary half with 12 carries for sixteen yards and no catches.

When the second half opened, the Rams used Benny Cunningham as their each-down back. That lasted till the end of the third quarter, when Richardson obtained back in. He promptly received demolished by Navorro Bowman in go protection.

On the season, Richardson has now rushed forty two times for 114 yards (2.seventy one YPC). We’ll have to attend and see what’s up with Pead, however it’s time for a change. At worst, Richardson must be a part of a committee.

49ERS at RAMS QUICK SLANTS
Vernon Davis (hamstring) told NFL Community earlier than the game that he was at 85 p.c. He appeared to be operating tremendous and played a ton of snaps, ending with 2/18/1. … Sam Bradford was atrocious. He missed open receivers along with his arm and missed them together with his eyes. The Rams’ first thirteen possessions: PUNT, FG, PUNT, PUNT, INT, PUNT, PUNT, PUNT, PUNT, PUNT, PUNT, FUMBLE, PUNT. … I had Tavon Austin No. 1 on my most overvalued listing earlier than the season. He’s not good in visitors and there’s not loads of space in opposition to the defenses like the Niner’s. … Kendall Hunter seems absolutely recovered from his Achilles’ tear. It’s apparent that Hunter – not LaMichael James – is Frank Gore’s backup. … Folks that wrote off Colin Kaepernick following poor Week 2 and three performances should get punished. He only had 167 yards and two TDs Monday night time, however could have had a ton extra if the Niners needed it. The guy is going to complete as a prime-7 fantasy quarterback.

FANTASY FOOTBALL DAY #1
When the Patriots decided to not put Rob Gronkowski (back, forearm) on the reserve/PUP checklist, it was a sign that they anticipated him to play someday before Week 6. In any other case, they’d simply be wasting a roster spot for no motive. Properly, it now sounds like they’re doing just that for one more week.

Although Gronk continues to practice daily together with his teammates, a supply tells ProFootballTalk the tight end’s outlook for Sunday night time’s sport at Atlanta is just not optimistic.

Search for another questionable tag and tight lips from the Patriots, however owners want to search out different options. It doesn’t appear like Gronk has had a setback, however the Pats are three-zero and his forearm can all the time use another week or two to heal. Maybe Week 5 would be the return of the Gronk.

Meanwhile, Danny Amendola (groin) continues to apply on a restricted foundation, however is just not expected to play Week 4. Perhaps he’ll be again Week 5 as nicely. So what now we have is more of the identical for Tom Brady – Julian Edelman will lead the workforce in targets, Brandon Bolden will be the passing-down back, Kenbrell Thompkins will get loads of chances at X and Aaron Dobson would be the third wideout.

FANTASY FOOTBALL DAY #2
When Terrelle Pryor was first named the Raiders beginning quarterback, a lot of people in contrast his throwing potential to that of Tim Tebow. Myself included. As it turned out, we were fallacious at first and are getting more fallacious by the sport.

On Monday night, Pryor regarded like a fairly polished NFL quarterback that’s able to making big throws out of the pocket. Former NFL scout John Middlekauff tweeted that Pryor is additional alongside as a pocket passer right now than Cam Newton was four games into his NFL profession. Middlekauff also mentioned that if pressured to choose a QB for the subsequent 10 years, he’d go together with Pryor over Cam.

All of this is what makes Thursday’s information much more disappointing. In line with ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Pryor is unlikely to play towards the Redskins Sunday because of a concussion sustained late in Monday’s loss. Matt Flynn goes to start out and will drag your complete Raiders offense – including Darren McFadden – down with him. I wouldn’t drop Pryor though, there are massive fantasy issues ahead for him.

FANTASY FOOTBALL DAY #3
Le’Veon Bell says his foot is one hundred pc and he’s working towards in full. His offensive linemen are mentioning him in the identical breath as Adrian Peterson. But Ben Roethlisberger is saying he doesn’t feel like he can rely on the rookie. So what offers?

Effectively, Bell goes to need to earn it. I think his Week 4 workload will come down to how properly he plays early on. If he’s a minimum of getting what’s blocked and selecting up all his assignments, he’ll see 12-15 touches against a really dangerous protection. If he scuffles at first, he’ll lose a number of work to Jonathan Dwyer and Felix Jones. That makes Bell a dangerous flex play.

The real payoff will come when the Steelers come out of their Week 5 bye. By the time Week 6 rolls around, Bell could have confirmed to Big Ben and everybody else in Pittsburgh that he’s the one who should be dominating this backfield.

HARM FAST SLANTS: QUARTERBACK AND OPERATING BACK
Reggie Bush (knee) is working towards in full. He’s going to start and monopolize snaps forward of Joique Bell. … Mark Ingram (toe) isn’t practising. Pierre Thomas is a sneaky flex play once more. … Chris Ivory (hamstring) isn’t going to play this week. Bilal Powell is a high-quality flex. … Ahmad Bradshaw (neck) should be fantastic for Sunday, however maybe his absence from observe ought to lead to more work for Trent Richardson. … Ray Rice is practicing and seemingly headed for a sport-time name. It’s reportedly a matter of pain tolerance. … C.J. Spiller (quad) is training in full. He has a tricky matchup vs. the Ravens, however needs to be in lineups.

DAMAGE FAST SLANTS: WIDE RECEIVER AND TIGHT FINISH
Mike Williams (hamstring) and Vincent Jackson (ribs) both missed practice and are very questionable for Sunday. … Officially, Andre Johnson (shin) is a sport-time call. But he stated he expects to play. … Appears like Patrick Edwards (ankle) will play. I’d nonetheless somewhat roll with Ryan Broyles. … Kenny Britt (ribs) is questionable. It may very well be a Justin Hunter popping out get together. … Lance Moore (wrist) left Week three early and isn’t working towards. Kenny Stills would play a ton of snaps if Moore sits. … Both Fred Davis (ankle) and Jordan Reed (quad) are questionable for this week. Keep away from. … Miles Austin (hamstring) remains sidelined. He’s not possible to belief this week given history and the late start. His direct backup is rookie Terrance Williams.

“The squeaky wheel will get the grease.” That outdated saying is getting an actual workout this season.

Mike Wallace whined after Week 1. He bought targeted eleven occasions and posted a 9/115/1 line in Week 2. Antonio Brown whined throughout and after Week 2. In Week three, he popped off for 9/196/2 in opposition to the Bears.

That brings us to Frank Gore. After the Week three loss to the Colts, Gore was spotted reportedly giving coach Jim Harbaugh some “selection phrases.” Presumably, it had to do with the meager eleven carries he received within the loss. Well, the Niners responded by riding Gore hard in Monday night time’s 35-11 win at St. Louis. He sat out many of the fourth quarter and nonetheless rushed 23 occasions for 153 yards with a touchdown.

Everyone desires to know who’s the following squeaker to get greased. How about Hakeem Nicks, who had no catches on one target in Week three. He’s scheduled to match up with a hobbled Brandon Flowers (knee) Sunday.

Anyway, again to Gore. Let’s not overreact to a shredding of an atrocious Rams protection that also acquired eaten up by DeMarco Murray (26/one hundred seventy five/1) in Week three. However in contrast to most 30-yr-old backs, Gore nonetheless has plenty of juice. He also performs behind arguably the league’s finest run-blocking line and a favorable schedule the remainder of the best way. The Niners nonetheless get to play the Jaguars, Redskins, Rams again and Falcons in fantasy’s Tremendous Bowl week. I would not take into account this a promote-high moment on Gore.

When the second half opened, the Rams used Benny Cunningham as their every-down back. That lasted till the end of the third quarter, when Richardson received again in. He promptly received demolished by Navorro Bowman in cross safety.

On the season, Richardson has now rushed forty two occasions for 114 yards (2.71 YPC). We’ll have to attend and see what’s up with Pead, but it surely’s time for a change. At worst, Richardson needs to be a part of a committee.

He’s not good in site visitors and there’s not plenty of space against the defenses just like the Niner’s. … Kendall Hunter appears to be like totally recovered from his Achilles’ tear. It’s obvious that Hunter – not LaMichael James – is Frank Gore’s backup. … People that wrote off Colin Kaepernick following poor Week 2 and three performances deserve to get punished. He only had 167 yards and two TDs Monday night time, but could have had a ton more if the Niners needed it. The man is going to finish as a top-7 fantasy quarterback.

SNIPPET FOR DAY #1
When the Patriots determined to not put Rob Gronkowski (back, forearm) on the reserve/PUP list, it was an indication that they expected him to play someday earlier than Week 6. Otherwise, they’d just be wasting a roster spot for no motive. Well, it now feels like they’re doing simply that for one more week.

So what we have is extra of the identical for Tom Brady – Julian Edelman will lead the workforce in targets, Brandon Bolden would be the passing-down again, Kenbrell Thompkins will get loads of chances at X and Aaron Dobson would be the third wideout.

SNIPPET FOR DAY #2
When Terrelle Pryor was first named the Raiders starting quarterback, lots of people in contrast his throwing capability to that of Tim Tebow. Myself included. As it turned out, we had been unsuitable at first and are getting extra flawed by the game.

On Monday night, Pryor looked like a reasonably polished NFL quarterback that’s able to making massive throws out of the pocket. SNIPPET OF THE DAY #three
Le’Veon Bell says his foot is one hundred pc and he’s practising in full. His offensive linemen are mentioning him in the same breath as Adrian Peterson. However Ben Roethlisberger is saying he doesn’t really feel like he can depend on the rookie. So what gives?

Well, Bell is going to must earn it. I suspect his Week four workload will come down to how properly he performs early on. If he’s at least getting what’s blocked and selecting up all his assignments, he’ll see 12-15 touches towards a very bad protection. If he scuffles at first, he’ll lose quite a lot of work to Jonathan Dwyer and Felix Jones. That makes Bell a dangerous flex play.

The true payoff will come when the Steelers come out of their Week 5 bye. By the point Week 6 rolls around, Bell could have proven to Massive Ben and everybody else in Pittsburgh that he’s the one who needs to be dominating this backfield.

DAMAGE QUICK SLANTS: QUARTERBACK AND WORKING AGAIN

Goal Line Stand: Week 4 Rankings

fants

Arian Foster is out-touching Ben Tate fifty seven-35. So why does he have simply 21 more yards from scrimmage?

Film review reveals a player who isn’t emerging from piles with as many additional yards as we’re used to seeing. Houston’s run blocking actually appears improved on it’s down — by its standards — 2012, whereas Foster has been typically making the precise reads. He merely isn’t attending to the second stage as simply as he as soon as did. It’s to be anticipated for a participant who pushed his touch odometer past 1,000 the previous three seasons, and led the league in carries in 2012. That being stated, Foster hardly appears to be like out of fuel. In reality, he looked pretty much as good as he had all season within the first half of Sunday’s loss to the Ravens, however didn’t get a chance to get into a second-half groove and put on down the defense with Houston falling behind 24-9 early in the third quarter.

Reality be advised, there hasn’t been a lot distinction between Foster and Tate since Week 1, the place Tate seemed shot out of a cannon in opposition to San Diego’s horrible run defense and Foster seemed drained. Since, Foster has actually appeared a tad extra slippery, with Tate wanting a bit sluggish, significantly Sunday. Since Tate’s 60-yard scamper on his first carry of Week 2 — the place he received run down by (admittedly athletic) Titans LB Zach Brown — Tate has averaged simply four.05 yards on 17 carries. Foster, in the meantime, has averaged 4.29 yards on 31 totes since Week 2. We’re performing some serious cherry choosing here, however the point is, the emerging narrative that Foster is on his last legs while Tate is being unjustly diminished to second fiddle is overblown.

What’s not overblown are Foster’s utilization considerations. This is very much a committee in the intervening time, one which’s operating into the Seahawks’ buzzsaw defense this weekend. With Foster-Tate in basically a 60-40 timeshare, neither are notably excessive-upside performs in a game where the Texans could again fall behind early. Foster is an RB2, Tate a shaky FLEX choice. But Foster owners shouldn’t quit hope. Perhaps his RB1 days are behind him. The movie suggests he’s going to hit fewer dwelling runs than he did in 2010-12. What it additionally suggests, nevertheless, is that he still has loads of useful football left in his 27-year-old legs. It simply won’t be elite.

QB Notes: Peyton Manning may as nicely construct a beach house and placing green in the Eagles’ secondary. This could get ugly. … Drew Brees has yet to throw for fewer than 322 yards in a sport this season. A touchdown avalanche is coming. … Michael Vick is predictably taking a ton of hits, however has to this point been standing and delivering, both to his wideouts and fantasy owners. He’s out-pointed each quarterback not named Peyton Manning. … Robert Griffin III’s play has hardly warranted a prime-five ranking, however he’s been simply ok, and is going through a Raiders defense permitting a thoughts-boggling 76.5 completion share. Throw in Oakland’s comfortable front seven, and all the elements are there for an RGIII breakout outdoors of rubbish time. … Tony Romo is off to a slow-ish start, however eased by the Rams in Week 3 and is facing a Chargers protection that’s allowed probably the most passing yards within the league by the season’s first three weeks (1,022). Begin him with confidence.

The Patriots’ go protection seems to be to be for actual, but with Roddy White lastly trending again toward full well being, Matt Ryan stays a safe QB1. The sport is at the Georgia Dome, where Ryan boasts a profession 34-5 file in comparison with 23-19 on the street. … Russell Wilson’s 9.10 YPA is third within the NFL. … After one week in the QB2 wilderness, Brady is again in QB1 territory. Is the promotion warranted? It’s arduous to say. He’d be no better than No. eleven have been Aaron Rodgers and Cam Newton not on bye, whereas his 5.5 YPA is the worst within the NFL. Brady is coming off a superb game against a terrific defense, nonetheless, whereas he finally gave the impression to be on the same web page with rookies Kenbrell Thompkins and Aaron Dobson in Week three. Throw in the attainable return of Rob Gronkowski, and you’ve got a future Corridor-of-Famer who’s not worth betting against in a dome versus an harm-decimated protection.

The Colts are more likely to go run heavy in opposition to the Jaguars’ league-worst run defense, but enjoying as sound of soccer as any quarterback within the league, you don’t bench Andrew Luck in opposition to a staff missing both of its beginning cornerbacks. Luck’s utilization has been irritating — his 93 move attempts are twenty fifth in the NFL — but talent all the time wins out. Luck shouldn’t even need more than 25 attempts to put up QB1 numbers towards the Jags. … Philip Rivers’ numbers — 70.zero completion share, 7.ninety eight YPA, 116.2 QB score and 8:1 TD:INT ratio — are nice, nevertheless it’s straightforward to neglect he’s surpassed 200 yards simply once in three games. That was towards the Eagles, who should give up 200 yards to most quarterbacks earlier than halftime this season. Facing a Cowboys crew on the street that’s forced seven turnovers by way of three video games, Rivers’ scorching start will likely be put to the test.

Quarterbacks by no means blame their supporting solid for slip ups or poor performances. That’s Quarterbacking one zero one. But if Colin Kaepernick were allowed a moment of honesty? He’d most likely say something like, “how am I purported to information this team to more than seven points when Vernon Davis is out and Kyle Williams is starting?” Outdoors of Anquan Boldin — who doesn’t win with separation, but toughness — Kaepernick flatly didn’t have a receiver capable of getting open last weekend, and the Colts responded by bearing down on the box and eliminating his running lanes. Kaepernick has been far from good the past two weeks, as his six turnovers would attest. But what’s he supposed to do? Gap up in an Alex Smith-like shell as the 49ers protection gets embarrassed by Seattle and run throughout by Ahmad Bradshaw? Possibly Kaepernick has been forcing the problem. It will be tough to pin all six turnovers on his teammates. However somebody needs to try to make performs for the 49ers while they wait on Davis — who needs to be again this night — and Kaepernick has continued to do so, perhaps at the expense of your fantasy matchup. Possibly he’ll break again out tonight, maybe he won’t. It’s going to be robust in a brief week on the street. However to suggest that defenses have figured Kaepernick out is a lazy assumption devoid of context. There are few higher buy-low targets.

Terrelle Pryor (concussion) could possibly be absent from these rankings by this time tomorrow if he doesn’t acquire clearance, but the early signs suggest he’ll play towards the Redskins, and the season-lengthy indicators recommend he’ll shred them. Washington has allowed a hard-to-believe 1,464 yards by way of its first three video games, and is 31st both in opposition to the cross (333 yards per sport) and run (one hundred fifty five). If there was ever a week to start Pryor in a one-QB league, this is it. … Jay Cutler is off to a strong, if measured, start below new coach Marc Trestman. 300 yards might not be in the offing towards the Lions, but there are few stabler plug-and-play QB2s. … Eli Manning’s 931 yards are sixth in the NFL, but coming off a recreation where he absorbed a preposterous seven sacks, he may not make it out alive in opposition to the Chiefs’ league-main pass rush on the highway. … Maybe Ben Roethlisberger will survive the yr as a solid QB2, in any case. How he fares against the Vikings’ shaky secondary and go rush might be a huge indicator.

Lace Joe Flacco up towards the league’s most damage-ravaged protection, which permitted 11.four yards per try to Geno Smith final Sunday. … The fantasy numbers aren’t fairly there but for Ryan Tannehill, but the peripherals (66.four completion percentage, 7.seventy three YPA) suggest they soon will be. He must cease fumbling and taking so many sacks, nevertheless. Only (vastly) improved protection will be certain that. … Sam Bradford: Pretty Sam Bradford-y to this point in 2013, though — as standard — he’s been harm immensely by drops. Per Professional Football Focus, his pass catchers have already muffed 12 passes. … Alex Smith: What quarterbacking at 55 miles per hour appears to be like like. … Game-supervisor Matt Schaub has watched his yardage totals go from 346 to 298 to 194. Don’t be stunned if he sets one other new low vs. Seattle this weekend. … Although they’re both coming off robust fantasy efforts, start Geno Smith and Brian Hoyer at your own danger.

Arian Foster is out-touching Ben Tate fifty seven-35. So why does he have just 21 more yards from scrimmage?

Film overview reveals a participant who isn’t emerging from piles with as many additional yards as we’re used to seeing. Houston’s run blocking really appears improved on it’s down — by its requirements — 2012, while Foster has been typically making the best reads. He simply isn’t getting to the second level as simply as he once did. It’s to be anticipated for a player who pushed his touch odometer previous 1,000 the past three seasons, and led the league in carries in 2012. That being said, Foster hardly looks out of gas. The truth is, he regarded as good as he had all season in the first half of Sunday’s loss to the Ravens, however didn’t get an opportunity to get into a second-half groove and put on down the defense with Houston falling behind 24-9 early in the third quarter.

Truth be informed, there hasn’t been a lot difference between Foster and Tate since Week 1, where Tate appeared shot out of a cannon towards San Diego’s horrible run protection and Foster appeared drained. Since, Foster has really appeared a tad more slippery, with Tate looking a bit sluggish, significantly Sunday. Since Tate’s 60-yard scamper on his first carry of Week 2 — the place he got run down by (admittedly athletic) Titans LB Zach Brown — Tate has averaged simply 4.05 yards on 17 carries. The movie suggests he’s going to hit fewer home runs than he did in 2010-12. What it also suggests, nevertheless, is that he nonetheless has plenty of helpful football left in his 27-year-outdated legs. It just may not be elite.

Luck’s usage has been frustrating — his ninety three move attempts are 25th within the NFL — but talent all the time wins out. Luck shouldn’t even need greater than 25 attempts to put up QB1 numbers in opposition to the Jags. … Philip Rivers’ numbers — 70.zero completion proportion, 7.ninety eight YPA, 116.2 QB score and eight:1 TD:INT ratio — are nice, however it’s simple to neglect he’s surpassed 200 yards just once in three games. That was towards the Eagles, who ought to surrender 200 yards to most quarterbacks before halftime this season. Dealing with a Cowboys group on the road that’s compelled seven turnovers via three games, Rivers’ scorching begin can be put to the take a look at.

Quarterbacks never blame their supporting cast for slip ups or poor performances. That’s Quarterbacking one hundred and one. But if Colin Kaepernick were allowed a second of honesty? He’d in all probability say something like, “how am I alleged to guide this group to more than seven factors when Vernon Davis is out and Kyle Williams is starting?” Outdoors of Anquan Boldin — who doesn’t win with separation, however toughness — Kaepernick flatly didn’t have a receiver capable of getting open final weekend, and the Colts responded by bearing down on the field and eliminating his working lanes. Kaepernick has been removed from good the previous two weeks, as his six turnovers would attest. But what’s he speculated to do? Hole up in an Alex Smith-like shell as the 49ers protection gets embarrassed by Seattle and run throughout by Ahmad Bradshaw? Possibly Kaepernick has been forcing the problem. It will be tough to pin all six turnovers on his teammates. But someone needs to attempt to make plays for the 49ers whereas they wait on Davis — who needs to be again this evening — and Kaepernick has continued to do so, maybe on the expense of your fantasy matchup. Perhaps he’ll break again out tonight, perhaps he gained’t. It’s going to be powerful in a brief week on the street. But to recommend that defenses have figured Kaepernick out is a lazy assumption devoid of context. There are few better buy-low targets.

Terrelle Pryor (concussion) could possibly be absent from these rankings by this time tomorrow if he doesn’t achieve clearance, but the early signs recommend he’ll play against the Redskins, and the season-lengthy signs suggest he’ll shred them. Washington has allowed a hard-to-consider 1,464 yards through its first three video games, and is thirty first both against the move (333 yards per sport) and run (155). If there was ever a week to start out Pryor in a one-QB league, this is it. … Jay Cutler is off to a powerful, if measured, start underneath new coach Marc Trestman. 300 yards might not be within the offing in opposition to the Lions, however there are few stabler plug-and-play QB2s. … Eli Manning’s 931 yards are sixth in the NFL, however coming off a game the place he absorbed a preposterous seven sacks, he might not make it out alive against the Chiefs’ league-leading move rush on the road. … Possibly Ben Roethlisberger will survive the 12 months as a stable QB2, in spite of everything. How he fares towards the Vikings’ shaky secondary and cross rush might be an enormous indicator.

Lace Joe Flacco up towards the league’s most damage-ravaged defense, which permitted 11.4 yards per attempt to Geno Smith final Sunday. … The fantasy numbers aren’t fairly there but for Ryan Tannehill, but the peripherals (sixty six.four completion proportion, 7.73 YPA) counsel they quickly will be. He needs to cease fumbling and taking so many sacks, however. Only (vastly) improved safety will make sure that. … Sam Bradford: Fairly Sam Bradford-y thus far in 2013, although — as normal — he’s been damage immensely by drops. Per Professional Football Focus, his go catchers have already muffed 12 passes. … Alex Smith: What quarterbacking at 55 miles per hour seems like. … Sport-supervisor Matt Schaub has watched his yardage totals go from 346 to 298 to 194. Don’t be shocked if he units one other new low vs. Seattle this weekend. … Although they’re each coming off strong fantasy efforts, start Geno Smith and Brian Hoyer at your own threat.

RB Notes: Looking stronger every week, Jamaal Charles might finally blast again into the fantasy stratosphere in opposition to the Giants’ strolling-dead defense. Charles’ 18 catches are tied for the league lead amongst operating backs. … The NFL hasn’t found a solution for LeSean McCoy by way of his first three games in Chip Kelly’s offense, however Denver’s high-ranked run defense — 43.3 yards per recreation, 2.3 yards per carry — can be by far the hardest problem he’s confronted. … The most surprising a part of Doug Martin’s so-so (however still solid) start? He’s caught just 4 passes via three video games after snagging forty nine as a rookie. That should change in a big approach going forward. Though new Bucs QB Mike Glennon is thought for his large arm and big body, he was also recognized for checking it down at NC State. With the Bucs lacking a succesful slot risk or go-catching tight end, you better imagine the Muscle Hamster might be racking up targets, restoring the receiving threat that helped make him third in the NFL in yards from scrimmage final season.

Matt Forte’s 363 yards from scrimmage are fourth amongst running backs, whereas his 18 catches are tied with Jamaal Charles for the working-back lead. … Alfred Morris is averaging 5.6 yards per carry. So why does he have simply forty of them? Because the Redskins have spent the complete season playing from behind. Astonishingly, Morris has gotten the ball as soon as whereas Washington’s had a lead. That ought to lastly change this weekend with the Redskins taking over an opponent extra their velocity within the Raiders. … DeMarco Murray is an effective participant. Perhaps an ideal one. So take this amusing, however mostly pointless, statistic with a grain of salt. For his profession, Murray has averaged four.eight yards on his 383 carries. When you take out his fifty one totes in opposition to the Rams, however? His YPC plunges from four.eight to 4.3. Murray gets a run defense almost as soft because the Rams’ in San Diego this weekend.

Squeaky wheel, is thy name Frank Gore? For a lot of causes, the answer is sort of definitely “yes.” Rightfully upset after he obtained just eleven carries in Sunday’s blowout loss — regardless of averaging 7.forty five yards per tote — Gore reportedly had some “selection phrases” for coach Jim Harbaugh. Gore has since downplayed the situation, but all indicators point to a a lot greater workload towards the Rams. St. Louis is contemporary off getting torched by DeMarco Murray, whereas the 49ers have confirmed completely incapable of transferring the ball via the air since Week 1. It all provides as much as re-emphasizing the run sport in opposition to a division rival in a should-win sport, and to fantasy owners lastly getting a giant week out of their pseudo RB1. … Ray Rice (hip) expects to play Sunday, but might find yourself a game-time choice for the second consecutive week. If the Ravens declare him able to go on Friday or Saturday, nonetheless, he’ll be a should begin RB1 in opposition to the Payments’ battered run protection. If Rice finally ends up once more sitting out, Bernard Pierce will be a plug-and-play RB2 in a far juicier matchup than the one he bumped into last Sunday towards the Texans.

Darren McFadden’s first three games by carries/yards/YPC: 17/48/2.eight, 19/129/6.eight and 12/9/zero.8. The increase-or-bust trend is about to continue for one more week against the Redskins’ saloon-door run protection. DMC can be bumped down, although, if Terrelle Pryor (concussion) can’t go. To date, the operating lanes opened up by Pryor’s scrambling ability seem like the difference between DMC’s 2012 and 2013. … Contemporary off a terrible matchup in his abbreviated first week as a Colt, the opponent for Trent Richardson’s second sport in blue-and-white couldn’t be more inviting. Thus far, the Jaguars’ overmatched entrance seven is allowing 167.7 yards per game on the ground, and 5.2 yards per carry. The Colts’ coaching employees is intent on making things difficult, nevertheless, with head man Chuck Pagano saying Wednesday his running back rotation would stay the identical as it did in Week three’s upset win. Ahmad Bradshaw touched the ball 22 times towards the 49ers, with T-Rich taking the rock thirteen times. Do we actually anticipate Bradshaw to get the ball 9 extra instances than Richardson for the second consecutive week? No. Is it a fluid enough state of affairs to keep Richardson out of the ranks out of the RB1s for not less than one more sport? Unfortunately, yes. T-Rich could finish the timeshare by doing what he’s anticipated to do in opposition to the league’s worst run protection.

Update: With Ahmad Bradshaw (neck) now declared out for Week 4, Trent Richardson has been ran into the highest 10.

Bilal Powell is brief on talent, however he’s all of the sudden lengthy on volume in an offense that’s lacking Chris Ivory and rediscovered the run in Week three. With so many query marks across the running-back panorama, Powell is a legit RB2. … Is Invoice Belichick the brand new Mike Shanahan in terms of seemingly arbitrary use of his backs? Stevan Ridley’s homeowners appear to assume so, but the answer is a flat “no.” Ridley simply led all Patriots backs in snaps and touches last season, and goes to do so again in 2013. His uneven first three weeks — largely the result of two fumbles and two robust run-game opponents — aren’t going to alter that. Start him confidently against Atlanta’s injury-smoked floor unit. … Don’t let Montee Ball and Ronnie Hillman’s rubbish-time carries idiot you: Knowshon Moreno remains the unquestioned leader of Denver’s running-back carousel. … David Wilson was two holding penalties away from a 13/70/1 day in Week 3. He’s getting nearer, however is a decidedly boom-or-bust possibility towards Kansas City’s apparently elite defense. … Joique Bell might be bumped down if Reggie Bush (knee) keeps trending in the appropriate route, moved up if it doesn’t.

A struggling and gimpy Daryl Richardson (foot) is an uncompelling choice against the 49ers’ run protection, although it’s missing Aldon Smith and Patrick Willis. He’s a desperation FLEX play. … A 50-% participant by snaps for the first time in Week three, Giovani Bernard continues his effortless kick past BenJarvus Inexperienced-Ellis on the depth chart. … Hold your expectations low for Le’Veon Bell’s debut. Perhaps he’ll be instantly thrust into an each-down position, however it appears unlikely after he’s missed a lot time. He is a solid FLEX play, nevertheless. … Keep away from the Browns backfield. … Take a flier on Isaiah Pead.

WR Notes: Calvin Johnson scored his third landing Sunday. He scored his third touchdown on November 18 last season. … The Eagles’ protection misses tackles for a residing. Demaryius Thomas breaks them for a dwelling. You do the maths. … Julio Jones leads the NFL in receiving yards, and is third in yards from scrimmage. His 157 yards after the catch lead the league. … DeSean Jackson’s 18.9 yards per catch led all receivers with at the very least 10 receptions, whereas his seven grabs of 20-plus yards are tied for first with Antonio Brown. … Pierre Garcon’s 39 targets are third within the league behind Cecil Shorts and Jimmy Graham. He’s caught at least seven passes in all three games.

Anxious Torrey Smith doesn’t have a touchdown? You shouldn’t be. Baltimore’s No. 1 receiver has cleared 85 yards in all three video games, and has six catches of 20 yards or longer. He’s overdue to get loose for a rating, and Buffalo’s forest fireplace of a secondary gives the most effective alternative for pay dirt he’ll see all season. Smith is a WR1 for Week 4. … Antonio Brown was annoyed heading into Week three, however wasn’t precisely struggling. He’s caught no less than five passes in all three video games, and is now squaring off with a Vikings secondary that received torn up by Josh Gordon in Week 3, and Brandon Marshall in Week 2. Headed across the pond, the Steelers aren’t going to mess with the formulation that brought them their first offensive success of the season. … Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) is as healthy as he’s been since Week 1, however a showdown with shutdown CB Darrelle Revis curbs his WR1 appeal.

A sport-time choice headed right into a rough matchup, Andre Johnson (shin) has the potential to tumble down the ranks. Johnson’s sturdiness is once more a difficulty. … Josh Gordon’s 19 Week 1 targets had been essentially the most for any receiver in a single recreation this season. It’s a number he’s unlikely to match again in 2013, let alone Sunday. Evidently, nonetheless, he proved his WR2 bonafides against the Vikings. Gordon might be a WR1 in comparatively short order. … Hakeem Nicks correctly observed that he “can’t throw the ball to (himself)” after his Week 3 doughnut. Count on Eli Manning to overcorrect this week. To not placate his frustrated wideout, however as a result of he has to if the Giants are going to avoid an 0-four begin. … Coming off three straight underwhelming efforts, Marques Colston isn’t a very robust breakout candidate against Brent Grimes and the Dolphins. … By the grace of garbage time, Cecil Shorts is essentially the most focused participant in the league via the primary three weeks. With Blaine Gabbert back on the controls for Week four, not even garbage time could also be sufficient to avoid wasting Shorts from his hopeless situation.

Dwayne Bowe’s drawback? He’s too good for Alex Smith, who doesn’t like looking greater than 6-eight yards past the line of scrimmage. Bowe likes to do his work deep, which could as nicely be 20,000 leagues beneath the sea to Smith. The Chiefs are going to have to begin manufacturing touches for their $fifty six million receiver closer to the LOS, however till they do, he’s a middling WR3, and a wasted talent. … Coming off a season-high snap rely, Roddy White would possibly finally be ready to erupt, although the Patriots’ secondary is formally legit. Taking part in by way of a high-ankle sprain, White has just seven catches on 10 targets. … T.Y. Hilton is shaping up as a boom-or-bust WR3, however the growth potential is excessive towards the Jaguars’ undermanned and overwhelmed secondary. … With Danny Amendola (groin) nonetheless out indefinitely, Julian Edelman remains a PPR superstar, however a normal-league “meh.”

Even towards the Seahawks’ robust secondary, DeAndre Hopkins might be bumped up the ranks if it turns into clear Andre Johnson (shin) shall be on a snap depend. … Take into account Miles Austin (hamstring) iffy with a touch of doubtful. His harm history makes it laborious to imagine he’ll play, but for now, Dallas is insisting he’ll. … Tavon Austin has 18 grabs through his first three video games, however is averaging just 6.6 yards per catch, and has a protracted of only 14. Sam Bradford isn’t getting Austin out into house. He’s a WR4, albeit one with room to grow. … The two touchdowns looked good final week, however Kenbrell Thompkins still managed to harness simply three-of-7 targets, making him 9-of-28 on the season. Thompkins has made strides, but isn’t yet a legit starter. … Monitor Ryan Broyles this weekend.

TE Notes: Julius Thomas seems due for a dud. He particularly seems attributable to get held out of the end zone. But these aren’t compelling sufficient causes to bet in opposition to him as he takes on a workforce with two struggling inside linebackers, and a good worse security duo. … With Miles Austin (hamstring) trying shaky, Jason Witten might be in for his first 10-plus target afternoon of the season. … Rob Gronkowski would already be the No. 2 tight end if we knew for certain he was going to play, but with the Pats, we’d not find out until inactives are announced. That’s an issue since New England is taking part in within the Sunday night time recreation. For now, pencil Gronk in — it’s something it’s important to do if there’s a chance he’ll play — but have a contingency ready for the fourth consecutive week.

Jordan Cameron’s 31 targets are second amongst all tight ends, while his 4 touchdowns are tied for first. He’s one or two more big weeks away from cementing himself as the every-week No. three total tight finish. … If Vernon Davis (hamstring) is energetic, you begin him and don’t look again. … Tony Gonzalez’s gradual start is formally a bit of a priority. He failed to benefit from a juicy Week three matchup in the Dolphins, and will now be squaring off with a Patriots workforce that routinely eliminates tight ends. So far this season, no workforce is allowing fewer fantasy points to tight ends than New England, although they’ve yet to sq. off with a talent better than Scott Chandler. It could be a wonderful signal for Gonzalez going ahead if he could finally have one thing like a 5/60/1 night time.

Martellus Bennett’s involvement in the sport plan appears poised to differ week to week, however he’s nonetheless top-of-the-line tight-end bets to seek out the top zone on a weekly basis. He’s Kyle Rudolph with more quantity. … Jared Cook dinner’s expertise is protecting him among the many TE1s, however the Rams’ unimaginative offense is limiting his upside. Sound acquainted? … Low-upside TE1 Brandon Myers has a tricky matchup in a Chiefs defense that’s to date been making the middle of the sector a tough place for tight ends to roam. … Expected to have his snap-count restrictions eliminated in his second week again, Heath Miller has critical upside towards a Vikings defense that’s gotten absolutely scorched by enemy tight ends up to now in 2013. … You need to have the ability to do better than Owen Daniels towards the Seahawks.

Coby Fleener is an upside chase until additional discover. He hasn’t had much consistency on the NFL level. … For now, Charles Clay is still only a bench stash, but he’s nonetheless one of many extra intriguing TE2s. … Per Professional Football Focus, Kyle Rudolph is averaging simply 0.ninety seven yards per cross route run, placing him behind the likes of Scott Chandler and Delanie Walker, to call a few. He’s touchdown-or-bust. … Zach Miller is a particularly desperate touchdown chase. … Marcedes Lewis (groin) is lastly set to make his 2013 debut. Blaine Gabbert figures to make it forgettable. … With two scores in three weeks, Joseph Fauria remains somebody to control near the bottom of the ranks.

Free-kick excitement at end of half falls short with Phil Dawson’s failed attempt

2013-09-27_0607

(USA At this time Sports Photographs) Have you learnt the NFL’s free-kick rule? For those who have been watching the top of the primary half of Thursday’s recreation between the San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams, you bought a tutorial. You simply did not see history being made.

The rule is an obscure one. Any group that fair catches a punt then can subsequently attempt a free kick, like a kickoff, that counts for three factors if it goes by the uprights. One of the best half? The protection cannot rush the kick.

That actual scenario performed out on the finish of the first half when the Rams couldn’t run the clock out because the 49ers used all their timeouts. When Kyle Williams truthful caught the ball on the San Francisco 39-yard line, it appeared that Jim Harbaugh would then send out Colin Kaepernick for a ultimate Hail Mary heave with only seconds remaining on the clock.

Not so quick!

The sneaky, obscure-rule-loving Harbaugh instead despatched out kicker Phil Dawson for what would have been double historical past.

The Chargers’ Ray Wersching is believed to be the last person in league history to successfully make a free kick, hitting a 45-yarder against the Buffalo Payments in 1976, though many have tried them through the years, together with Neil Rackers in 2008.

However Dawson’s 71-yard kick would have bested the all-time lengthy mark of sixty three by nearly a whole first down. Sadly, it went method left. At the very least, it was a far more worthwhile try than Rackers’ was.

Maybe it was ill-conceived. Dawson, after all, had missed a fifty three-yard “regular” subject purpose earlier within the sport and is off to a troublesome start this season, having missed as many kicks as he is made since leaving the Cleveland Browns.

Oh nicely. In case you are a football geek, it was thrilling during the buildup.

Greg Cosell’s Film Study: Geno Smith impresses, as does the Titans defense

(USA At the moment Sports Photographs)

NFL analyst and NFL Films senior producer Greg Cosell watches as a lot NFL sport film as anyone. All through the season, Cosell will join Shutdown Nook to share his observations on the teams, schemes and personnel from across the league.

In Cosell’s first post each week, he’ll feature a couple of of the video games from the previous week and break down the coaching decisions and players who stood out.

Broncos forty nine, Ravens 27
• What made Peyton Manning’s document-setting night time much more spectacular is that his offensive line did not have an awesome night. Despite the fact that the Ravens rarely blitzed (the only first-half blitz was a zone blitz out of the nickel), they still got plenty of strain and hit him often as he released the ball. Left sort out Ryan Clady even struggled in protection in the first half. The place Manning excelled was in opposition to the Ravens’ two-deep shell: In 33 snaps in opposition to that look he went 15-of-23 for 303 yards and four touchdowns, with 13.2 yards per attempt.

• Broncos operating again Knowshon Moreno is a mechanical and robotic runner. Rookie Montee Ball will beat him out as quickly as he turns into a greater go protector.
• Broncos tight end Julius Thomas had two touchdowns, but he wants work in go protection and run blocking.
• The Ravens drafted linebacker Arthur Brown in the second round, but he played simply six snaps. Josh Bynes and Daryl Smith have been the linebackers in Baltimore’s nickel defense. Fellow Ravens rookie Matt Elam did not start at safety however changed Michael Huff in the fourth quarter.
• The Ravens’ safeties limit what they will do in coverage and pressure, and cornerback Jimmy Smith did not have a good game – an actual concern for the Ravens.
• Tight end is one other concern for the Ravens. Dallas Clark played 60 snaps, exhibiting very little confidence in Ed Dickson.
• Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco missed some reads and did not pull the trigger on some throws. He also missed some throws with poor ball placement.
• Broncos security Duke Ihenacho is a participant to observe. He jumped off the display screen. He matched up with the tight end in nickel “man free” protection, and likewise flashed within the run sport.

49ers 34, Packers 28

(USA In the present day Sports Photographs)

• The read option was clearly not a part of the 49ers’ sport plan. Instead, they used a number of quick drops and quick throws by Colin Kaepernick. I liked Kaepernick’s willingness to stick throws into tight windows. If Kaepernick didn’t miss some open throws (both as a result of he was inaccurate or didn’t pull the set off) he could have thrown for over 500 yards.
• Sticking with their common method, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman used some movable chess items to gauge how the Packers would adjust. Their chess pieces were receiver Anquan Boldin and tight end Vernon Davis, who have been focused on 26 of Kaepernick’s 39 makes an attempt.
Left sort out Joe Staley graded out very properly in an awesome matchup towards Packers outdoors linebacker Clay Matthews.
The 49ers’ vertical assault on offense comes from tight ends Davis and Vance McDonald. McDonald can run vertical seam routes together with his good velocity.
Packers rookie left tackle David Bakhtiari struggled in move protection. The Packers’ move offense as an entire lacked rhythm, although Aaron Rodgers made some excellent particular person throws.
• 49ers rookie safety Eric Reid performed nicely. He has more overall expertise than Dashon Goldson, who left San Francisco and signed a huge contract with Tampa Bay this offseason.

Titans sixteen, Steelers 9

(USA Right this moment Sports activities Photos)

• The Titans have a run recreation basis. They played vital snaps in three-tight end units, and used a mixture of inside zone run performs and power runs with both guard (left guard Andy Levitre or rookie proper guard Likelihood Warmack) pulling. The large query for the Titans: Does Shonn Greene higher fit sustaining run sport approach than Chris Johnson?
• Titans quarterback Jake Locker showed the ability to make improvisational plays, however still has accuracy issues (he missed huge-open Kendall Wright on a 3rd and 14 to finish Tennessee’s first collection) and has a tendency to play fast within the pocket. That is why his reads have to be simplified.
• Steelers security Troy Polamalu was a big factor close to the road of scrimmage in opposition to the run and nonetheless looks explosive.
• The Titans’ protection was quicker and sooner than the Steelers’ offense. Tennessee’s front seven regarded athletic and lively. Pittsburgh’s offensive line was physically handled. Left deal with Mike Adams was driven again too many occasions.
• This was a dominant defensive efficiency by the Titans.

Jets 18, Buccaneers 17

• Overall, Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith performed a very professional sport. He was very poised within the second half. He was calm in the pocket and didn’t play fast in response to pressure. He confirmed some anticipation, plus willingness to make robust throws. He did present some expected rookie tendencies, like locking onto his first read and was a beat late on certain throws.
• Additionally: offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg didn’t attempt to cover Smith. He had an aggressive strategy.
• The Jets’ offensive line wants to protect Smith better, or he’ll have some dangerous games. Guard Vladimir Ducasse, a 2010 second-spherical choose, isn’t a NFL starter.
• Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis, returning from a torn ACL, performed about 50 of the Jets’ seventy three snaps.
• The Buccaneers’ protection regarded very quick and really lively.

Seneca Wallace happy to be with Packers after ‘miscommunication’ with 49ers

(USA At this time Sports activities Photographs)

In order for a quarterback and coach to get alongside, there needs to be efficient communication between both males. It is easy to know why Seneca Wallace is no longer enjoying for Jim Harbaugh’s San Francisco 49ers.

Wallace, who signed with San Francisco almost two weeks ago after New Orleans launched him, not too long ago signed with the Green Bay Packers. That occurred after Harbaugh mentioned he thought the quarterback was retiring.

Apparently, Wallace was solely walking away from the 49ers, not soccer.

“I have been around this game lengthy enough where I can see what’s going on,” Wallace recently advised the Des Moines Register, “and I spotted right away the rationale they introduced me right here was to get Colt to take a pay minimize.”

Wallace is referring to Colt McCoy, who recently had his base salary reduced from $1.5 million to the league minimum of $630,000 (with incentives if he have been to achieve certain taking part in time marks). After that deal was reached on August 24, Wallace believed his time in San Francisco was over.

That is when Wallace decided not to accompany the group to San Diego for the 49ers’ preseason finale final week. In Harbaugh’s defense, if Wallace knowledgeable the coach he did not plan to journey with the group, it is simple to know why he thought the quarterback was retiring.

Ironically, Green Bay will play against San Francisco on Sunday, and conspiracy theorists – which may embrace Ray Lewis – believed the signing was only a plot by the Packers to choose Wallace’s brain. However, Packers coach Mike McCarthy refuted that notion on Monday by mentioning the quarterback’s expertise and saying, “Just speaking soccer with him final night, I felt assured that he’ll be able to play Sunday.”

Despite the confusion, Wallace advised JSonline.com it was all simply ‘miscommunication’ between each events. Wallace also stated he known as Harbaugh to clear the air.

“You’ll be able to never dream about how issues labored out,” Wallace mentioned. “I mean, it was tough. It was a tough couple weeks however what occurred is behind me and now I’m transferring forward and focusing on being here in Green Bay and being the best provider as a back-as much as A-Rod.”

That is one thing everyone can perceive.

Colt McCoy named Colin Kaepernick’s backup despite uneven performance for 49ers

(USA In the present day Sports activities Photos) Colt McCoy hoped to play well within the 49ers’ preseason game against the Vikings Sunday night for certainly one of two causes. He both wanted to prove that he deserved to be on the roster, or perhaps increase his commerce value to a team that truly desires him.

[wp_admanager_pro_display_adzone id=”18″]

McCoy appeared on the surface to have failed at each. But seems to be can be deceiving. Despite a sub-par efficiency, McCoy apparently has won the backup job. So said head coach Jim Harbaugh after the game.

Rumors had whirled prior to the sport about McCoy’s future in San Francisco after the 49ers added Seneca Wallace, their fifth quarterback, to the roster. However the first a part of Branch’s tweet — the half about McCoy restructuring his deal — likely helped agency up McCoy staying in San Fran.

After Colin Kaepernick’s night time was carried out against the Vikings, McCoy entered midway through the second quarter and truly acquired right into a rhythm, hitting a couple of excessive-share passes and escaping heavy stress just a few times. However Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway hoodwinked McCoy by faking a blitz and dropping into protection, snagging his fifth pass of the game and intercepting it.

The 49ers gave the impression to be calling a fairly vanilla sport with a whole lot of protected passes for McCoy, maybe wanting to spice up his confidence — and, simultaneously, his trade worth. Although he completed 11-for-15 passing, he threw for less than 109 yards (with a number of of these coming after the catch) and was sacked as soon as. McCoy’s finest throw of the evening was a pleasant contact cross downfield for 19 yards to new receiver Jon Baldwin.

Now what happens to the opposite quarterbacks on the roster? Seventh-rounder B.J. Daniels changed McCoy and continued his stable play this summer; he seems to be a greener version of Kaepernick, perhaps without the “wow” traits. And whither Wallace? Might the 49ers think about preserving four quarterbacks considering that Wallace also has flexibility as a receiver? (Sorry, Scott Tolzien. We’re counting you out right here.)

With the previous Heisman runner-up and national champion at Texas apparently assured of a roster spot, there’s some real intrigue about what the 49ers will do. Yes, one of the hallmarks of this 49ers regime is knowing when to turn the web page. They dumped 2012 first-rounder A.J. Jenkins in a deal for Baldwin. But after buying and selling two draft picks (a fifth and a seventh) for McCoy and a sixth-rounder, the 49ers apparently need to hold him around a little bit longer.

49ers CB Tarell Brown hires a new agent

Tarell Brown has a new agent (USA Right this moment Sports Photos)

Late last week, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Tarell Brown fired his previous agent when, unbeknownst to him, a $2 million base wage escalator in his contract was voided when he didn’t take part in the team’s voluntary workout program this offseason.

Six days later, Brown has a brand new agent. In accordance with Liz Mullen of the SportsBusiness Journal, the seventh-yr cornerback has hired Joel Segal of Lagardere Unlimited.

Brown is at present scheduled to earn $925,000 in base salary, but 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh has hinted that the team goes to work with Brown and his new agent to resolve the situation.

“He bought hit by, that’s an actual torpedo,” Harbaugh stated of Brown on Sunday. “But, he’s been very professional. And the thing I feel for all of us is finding the solution. There’s an answer there. And soon that all of us put our minds together and provide you with the fitting plan, it will hopefully get to the point the place you giggle about that and chuckle about that. That’s the way I’d wish to see it go.”

After enjoying in a reserve function for the first 4 seasons of his profession, Brown, a 2007 fifth-round select of Texas, has emerged as a starter over the past two seasons. Brown has ninety seven tackles, six interceptions and 29 passes defensed whereas enjoying in 98.three percent of the 49ers’ 2,074 defensive snaps between the 2011 and 2012 regular seasons. In 5 playoff games, Brown has a pair of interceptions and will probably be one of the crew’s two beginning cornerbacks this season and beyond, offered an extension may be labored out.

Another potential long-time period starter at cornerback for the 49ers is Chris Culliver, which creates a moderately interesting state of affairs in the workforce’s defensive backfield as Culliver employed Segal to characterize him earlier this offseason.

Jim Harbaugh’s jab at Seahawks rings hollow after Eric Wright trade

Eric Wright at Buccaneers OTAs, June, 2013. (AP) The rivalry between Pete Carroll and Jim Harbaugh is well-documented, and goes back to a specific “What’s your deal?” incident when both men were coaching in what was then the Pac-10. Now that Harbaugh has taken the San Francisco 49ers to a Super Bowl, and Carroll is firmly in charge of the super-buzzy Seattle Seahawks, it’s safe to say that this NFC West competition has an unusual amount of enmity around it.

Put simply, Carroll and Harbaugh respect each other, but you won’t see them barbecuing in the backyard together anytime soon.

In June, Harbaugh upped the ante when he was asked about Seattle’s recent rash of PED suspensions, notably linked to the drug Adderall. Harbaugh took a clear shot at his enemies up north, while stumping for the relative cleanliness of his own program.

”You don’t know what it is,” Harbaugh said of banned substances in general. “Even when people say what it is, you don’t know that that’s what it is. I’ve heard this thrown out or that, but that’s usually the agents or the players themselves saying it’s, for example, Adderall. But the NFL doesn’t release what it actually is, so you have no idea. You’re taking somebody at their word that I don’t know if you can take them at their word, understanding the circumstances.

”It has no place in an athlete’s body. Play by the rules. I always want to be above reproach, especially when you’re good, because you don’t want people to come back and say, ‘They’re winning because they’re cheating.’ That’s always going to be a knee-jerk reaction in my experience, ever since I was a little kid. We want to be above reproach in everything and do everything by the rules. Because if you don’t, if you cheat to win, then you’ve already lost, according to Bo Schembechler. And Bo Schembechler is about next to the word of God as you can get in my mind. It’s not the word of God, but it’s close.”

One wonders what Bo Schembechler would think of the trade made on Friday. The 49ers sent a conditional pick to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for cornerback Eric Wright, who served a four-game suspension just last year for a violation of the league’s substance-abuse policy. Wright later admitted to using Adderall, and he missed four games after his appeal was denied. Wright was arrested for an alleged DUI charge in 2012 that was later dropped, and per Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, he was arrested for a similar charge on July 12 of this year. He posted $5,000 bond in that case.

This is not to demonize Wright at all — I’ve spoken to him before, and he’s always seemed like a decent guy to me. But no NFL coach should take off on the ethics of another team when that player who could solve your positional issues, despite a checkered past, could be just around the corner.

“At the end of the day, this game is about winning,” Wright told me last July at Travelle Gaines’ gym in Los Angeles. “It’s about putting in the time and hard work to win. It’s a rare breed of guys out there who don’t care about the game. The perception is tough, but there’s nothing you can do to shake that, other than to continue to put the best product out there on Sundays. Nobody’s going to talk about the work we all put in here — it’s irrelevant to them, because it’s our job and it’s what they feel we should be doing. Anybody can go out there and have their own personal obstacles to overcome. Not just athletes, but in general. But we’re in that spotlight, so things come out. People have an opinion, and they care enough to actually say something about it. That just comes with the territory. You know it, you understand it, and you work through it.

“And the end, though, nobody cares about anything but wins and losses in this game, and we have to do the best we can to prepare ourselves to get those wins.”
