NBA Prediction Sunday Game Preview/Pick- Houston vs. Miami

Free NBA Pick & Prediction Rockets vs Heat

Line: MIA -4.0

Over/Under- 208.5

The Miami Heat, losers of five of their last six games will try to get it together against a tough Houston Rockets team on Sunday afternoon in what has the makings of a great game.

The Heat (44-19) are experiencing their worst funk in three years and it couldn’t come at a worst time as they are trying to catch the Indiana Pacers for the top-spot in the Eastern Conference which will give them home court advantage through-out the playoffs in the East. They will be hard pressed to secure the best record in the NBA as of now with the season winding down unless they can go on a serious run.

Their loss on Friday night to visiting Denver was a hard pill to swallow given the fact that the Nuggets are not expected to make the playoffs.

Something is off, obviously,” Heat guard Dwayne Wade said.

Just not playing well,” four-time NBA MVP LeBron James added.

With just 19 games left in the season and a race to the finish between the Heat and Pacers, Miami needs to figure it out quick.

Five out of six, to our standards, that’s unacceptable,” forward Chris Bosh added. “We know we’re better than this. We have to do a better job. We have to have better urgency.”

It seemed not to long ago, the Heat were on a tear winning eight straight and 14 of 16 to challenge for the NBA’s best record but now are looking to put anything together and build some momentum.

Fittingly enough, Miami’s slump started with a 106-103 loss to the Rocket’s back on March 4and now will be trying to end it against the very same team who go in having lost two consecutive games of their own.

Houston (44-21) has lost to Oklahoma City and Chicago on this road trip and will be trying to avoid losing three-in-a-row for the first time all year.

And with a 4-0 record following back-to-back losses, they have to like their chances going up against the two-time defending champions looking to find their way again.

Despite Miami’s recent play of late, no one on the team is in panic mode just yet and know they just have to go out and play the type of basketball they are capable of.

We just have to take it on the chin and stay in the fight,” Bosh said. “We’re going to do that. We’re going to turn this thing around and we’re going to make a championship run. That’s going to be it, because we have to.”

Oddsmakers feel the Heat can get it done Sunday afternoon making the Heat a (minus -4.0) point favorite, but get the latest spread on the game up until game time right here at Wonder Punter.

Something as to give between these two teams who will be both coming out with a sense of urgency but it will come down to who wants it more and I have to favor the Heat to finally get out of their slump and win in a good game come Sunday.

NBA Prediction Wednesday Night Preview/Pick- Rockets vs. Lakers

NBA Free Pick & Prediction Houston vs. Los Angeles

Houston Rockets (36-17, 14-10 away) @ Los Angeles Lakers (18-35, 8-16 home) 02/19- 10:30PM EST

Line: HOU -8.5

Over/Under: 214.5

Former Laker Dwight Howard will make his long awaited return back to Los Angeles on Wednesday night to face his former team at Staples Center… and the fans will be waiting to give him a heavy dose of boos.

Last year in his first and only season with Los Angeles, expectations were high all around as the Lakers were expected to be serious contenders for an NBA championship with the addition of Howard and Steve Nash. What the Lakers encountered instead was a 2012-13 season filled with injuries, a disappointing slow start, a coaching change, internal conflicts and a quick first-round exit.

Despite the underachieving and disappointing end to last season, the Lakers felt they did enough to try to resign Howard to a long-term max deal in the off season, but to many… myself included, the writing was on the wall about Howard bolting from Los Angeles. The shoes of stepping in and trying to carry a storied franchise under the bright lights of Hollywood proved too much pressure on Howard and decided to sign with the Houston Rockets for $88 million dollars.

For Howard, the move to Houston seemed to have been the right one as he was named an All-Star and as the Rockets (36-17) are riding a season-high seven game win streak, Howard has been the main go-to-guy scoring an average of 24.7 points on 60.0 percent shooting with 12.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocks during the surge as they get set to open the second half of the season.

Let’s face it… L.A. was just not the right fit for Howard where he clashed often with Kobe Bryant and coach Mike D’Antoni in his offensive system. Houston has proved a safe-haven for Howard.

We enjoy each other,” Howard said of his current teammates. “I’m happy to be here. The guys are happy to be here and we’re just having a lot of fun. I think the biggest thing for our team is that we are free, we’re able to have fun with each other, but when we step between the lines we know it’s serious.”

And serious it will be as the Rockets, who have won six of their last seven on the road since Jan 11 will get set to open up a five-game road trip that will also pit them against Western Conference contenders Golden State, Phoenix and the L.A. Clippers.

There’s going to be some tough road games,” said All-Star guard James Harden. “We’re on a roll right now but it’s going to be some tough games when we get back and hopefully we can string (some wins) together.”

For the Lakers (18-35), this season as been nothing but a disaster in the injury department, missing much of their fire-power all season, one injury after another, losing seven straight and 13 of their last 15 games at Staples and … this is not what we expect from a prideful Lakers team. They are playing hard and no one can fault them for that, but they simply lack the talent to close out games and put together some wins.

With the NBA trade deadline set for Thursday afternoon, there is talk of the Lakers dealing away veteran center and the Lakers leading scorer this season Pau Gasol, who has also had his run-ins with coach D’Antoni as Gasol questioned his role in the D’Antoni system.

As a general manager, we’re always looking a year or two or three down the road,” Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak said. “Our approach going into this deadline might be a little different than it’s been in year’s past. We may look to shore up a position going into the playoff run. It may not be. But certainly I’m respectful and mindful of our record.”

And though the Lakers are going through their worst season in years, they have split two games in Houston this season and will be fired-up for the return of Howard.

The oddsmakers have the hot Houston Rockets as (minus 8.5) point favorites on Wednesday night, but get the latest odds up until tip off right here at Wonder Punter.

Yes, these two teams are going in opposite direction and the Rockets are heavily favored but I feel the Lakers will be ready to deal Howard and the Rockets a loss. Expect the L.A. crowd to pull out all stops to distract Howard as the Lakers will look to win their seventh game in eight tries against the Rockets at Staples Center.

NBA Prediction Friday Game Preview/Pick- Memphis vs. Houston

NBA grizzlies vs rockets picks

NBA Free Pick and Prediction Grizzlies vs. Rockets

Memphis Grizzlies (20-20, 9-7 away) @ Houston Rockets (29-15, 18-6 home) 01/24- 8:00PM EST

Line: HOU -7.0

Over/Under- 199.0

The Houston Rockets, in the midst of a three game winning streak look to continue their success against the Memphis Grizzlies at home on Friday night in the first game of a home-and-home series.

Memphis (20-20), winners of four of five, look to bounce back following a 95-92 disappointing loss to the New Orleans Pelicans, but have struggled this season with opponents in the Southwest Division where they are 0-10… the NBA’s only winless team in its division.

The Grizzlies go into Friday night’s game averaging 95.9 points per game, but during their last four games averaged only 88.8 points but thanks to the defense stepping up, allowed only 84.7 points in their last three… down from their season average of 96.6 points per contest.

We had a good thing going,” point guard Mike Conley said. “The schedule is not going to get any easier. We’re coming up against a tough stretch, and we have to get focused again.

We have to get ready for a very good Houston team.”

Memphis has won nine of their last 13 road games but have dropped 14 of 15 in Houston, which doesn’t bold well for their chances to get back over .500… a team that is better than their record indicates in my opinion.

They have the talent with Zach Randolph (17.1 ppg), Conley (18.1) and Marc Gasol (14.7) but haven’t seemed to get over the hump all season and not winning games in their own division is not helping their chances.

Shooting guard Tony Allen will be out for Friday’s game.

Houston (29-15), has been one of the better teams all season long and the duo of Dwight Howard (18.3 ppg) and James Harden (24.3) are getting it done. Now with a rash of injuries… Omer Asik, Terrence Jones, Patrick Beverly all out and Ronnie Brewer (sore calf) and Francisco Garcia (knee) listed as day-to-day, the Howard-Harden combo will continue to carry the team along with Chandler Parsons (17.2).

We’ve had a lot of guys hurt, lot of guys down. Whoever is out there is playing hard is playing for his teammates and that’s what makes you successful,” said forward Omri Casspi.

Despite the injuries, the Rockets have won four of five, won eight of 10 in January and are riding a three game win streak that has seen them light up the scoreboard to the tune of 119.7 points per game.

Houston is 2-0 against the Grizzlies this season, holding Memphis to just 89.0 points in those victories and it’s that success that has made the Rockets a (minus -7.0) point favorite according to oddsmakers, but get the latest spread on the game up until tipoff right here at Wonder Punter.

As much as I would like to think Memphis is due to finally win one in their division and against their division rival nonetheless… I just don’t see Friday night being the night to snap their woes in the Southwest. I’ve always been a fan of the Grizzlies but with the way the Rockets have been scoring at will, I have to predict the Rockets winning big and extending their win streak to four games.

Saturday night, the same two teams will be in Memphis to conclude their home-and-home series.

Nowitzki passes Reggie Miller on scoring list

Ellis Leads Mavs Rally Over Rockets

DALLAS – Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki climbed another spot increased on the NBA’s all-time scoring list during a spectacular efficiency Wednesday night.

Nowitzki passed Indiana Pacers legend Reggie Miller for the 15th spot when he hit a free throw with 2:eleven remaining in the first half of the Mavs’ 123-one hundred twenty win over the Houston Rockets. Miller finished his Hall of Fame career with 25,279 factors, 16 more than Nowitzki had getting into the night.

After a classic outing, Nowitzki has 25,298 career points. He poured in a season-high 35 points on thirteen-of-20 taking pictures, together with 14 points in the fourth quarter as the Mavs rallied from 14 down to drag off the comeback victory.

“That is not dangerous,” Nowitzki deadpanned after the win, referring to passing Miller. “Obviously I did not think when I first received right here that 15, sixteen years later, I’d be within the top 15 of scoring all-time, so it’s great. It was an incredible evening, but I’m actually extra completely satisfied concerning the win, to be honest. Meaning extra to me right now than any of the data.”

Nowitzki bumped Jerry West down a spot on the all-time scoring listing throughout the Mavs’ Nov. 12 win over the Washington Wizards. Nowitzki would undertaking to complete the season tenth on the listing if he stays healthy and continues scoring at his current clip of 20.6 points per game.

“Dirk doesn’t care about milestones,” Mavs proprietor Mark Cuban stated before the sport. “He could care less. Figuring out Dirk, he’d stick on sixteen for the subsequent two years if we’d win video games. That is all he cares about is successful. He actually would not care about that stuff.”

Brooklyn Nets center/ahead Kevin Garnett ranks 14th on the all-time scoring listing with 25,340 profession factors. The following retired participant that Nowitzki would pass is Alex English, who scored 25,613 factors in his career.

Melo on latest defeat: Like we’re not trying

Hawks Hand Knicks Fifth Straight Residence Loss

Hawks Hand Knicks Fifth Straight Residence Loss

NEW YORK – Following the New York Knicks’ fifth straight loss at Madison Sq. Backyard, a disgusted Carmelo Anthony said it looked as if the crew wasn’t even making an attempt in a 110-90 loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony was perplexed to describe the Knicks’ latest loss Saturday night time.

“We ain’t taking part in worth a s- right now,” Anthony stated. “We acquired to play harder.

“I am upset too in all of our effort. We are simply not getting it carried out. It ain’t nothing that Coach [Mike] Woodson is doing [or not doing]. It ain’t got nothing to do with X’s and O’s out there on the basketball courtroom. We are not getting it completed from an effort standpoint. It’s like we are not even attempting proper now.”

Although Anthony says Woodson is not to blame, Knicks fans nonetheless briefly chanted “Hearth Woodson” within the third quarter.

The house followers have not had a lot to cheer for thus far this season. The Knicks (3-6) haven’t received at the Garden since their ninety-83 season-opening victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Oct. 30. They’ve lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Charlotte Bobcats, San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets and Atlanta at residence.

In the course of the loss to Minnesota, the Knicks surrendered 40 points within the first quarter. In a a hundred and twenty-89 loss to the Spurs last Sunday, they trailed 21-four in the first quarter and fell behind by as many as 37.

Towards the Hawks (6-four), the Knicks were inside five (84-seventy nine) with eight:39 remaining before permitting a 14-2 run during which Atlanta scored on three layups and a dunk.

“You’re not going to beat anyone taking part in gentle and not hard like we did,” Woodson said. “They played extraordinarily extremely onerous tonight and we just did not compete with them.”

Woodson mentioned he may tinker together with his lineup once more. The Hawks shot 56.4 % from the field in opposition to a Knicks protection minus the injured Tyson Chandler, who’s out for no less than a month with a fractured leg.

The players spoke afterward within the locker room.

J.R. Smith – after a three-for-18 night from the ground that saw him miss eight-of-9 3-point tries – took among the blame.

“Excuse my language however I was playing like s-,” he said. “I performed horrible. I’ve been taking part in horrible since I obtained again and I wasn’t blissful about it.”

Anthony, who led the Knicks with 23 points and 12 rebounds, left the Garden baffled and indignant.

“You just got to do more I suppose,” Anthony said. “Simply try to go out there and get it performed as a team. I am not going to do it on my own. I do not want to do it by myself. We received to do it as a group. We preserve digging ourselves deeper and deeper.

“It is frustrating. Messed up feeling. Nasty feeling. I actually am kind of puzzled right now.”

Cuban: Howard wrong for going to Rockets

DALLAS – Mavericks owner Mark Cuban lost the recruiting battle for Dwight Howard to the Houston Rockets, but Cuban believes that is because the massive man made a bad resolution.

“Clearly, he made a mistake in judgment,” Cuban said Thursday, a bit of more than 24 hours before the Mavericks play Howard’s Rockets in Houston. “Do I blame him? No, that is what younger youngsters do. They make mistakes in judgment.”

The Mavs and Rockets had been two of the five teams that made pitches to Howard and his brokers in Los Angeles this summer season. Cuban thinks Howard, 27, had already made up his mind to sign with the Rockets and staff up with 24-yr-old rising famous person shooting guard James Harden.

Cuban Clearly, he made a mistake in judgment. Do I blame him? No, that’s what young kids do. They make errors in judgment.

- Mavs owner Mark Cuban,
on Dwight Howard’s decision
to signal with the Rockets

Mavs famous person Dirk Nowitzki is 35, but Cuban considers it foolish to decide in free agency primarily based totally on the age of potential co-stars.

“You select teams. You do not select players,” Cuban mentioned. “If he made a selection off of a person participant, yeah, he made a mistake. You choose groups. You choose organizations. You select coaches. And it’s simply not relative to Houston. That is simply the way I look at it, because if he is that good, then the right organization …

“Put apart Dwight. Any young superstar trying to make a transfer, in case you’re that good, then the suitable organization gets all the best pieces round you. So it’s not about you’d relatively play with this man. In the event you’re that good and you’ve got [wage-cap] flexibility, the precise organization will put the suitable pieces round you and get you there.”

The Dallas front workplace’s observe report of success was a big a part of the Mavs’ pitch to Howard. Dallas had a streak of 11 50-win seasons, which included two journeys to the NBA Finals and a championship in 2011, snapped within the lockout-shortened 2011-12 campaign after Cuban opted to let Tyson Chandler and others leave in free company as a result of he wanted the wage-cap area to chase a celebrity in free company. The Mavs’ streak of 12 playoff seasons ended last season, as Nowitzki handled injuries whereas being surrounded by a supporting forged consisting primarily of one-12 months rental players.

The Rockets, who pulled off a surprising blockbuster trade to land Harden earlier than final season, have received one playoff series in the past 17 seasons.

Nowitzki, nevertheless, would not blame Howard for deciding that Houston was the best vacation spot for him.

“Houston clearly is an up-and-coming team,” Nowitzki instructed ESPNDallas.com. “[Chandler] Parsons to me is a phenomenal participant, an up-and-coming player, and Harden is one of the best within the league at getting to the basket and scoring. They are going to be a handful.”

Dwight HowardDwight Howard tied a profession excessive with 26 rebounds in his Rockets debut on Wednesday evening.

Cuban stated he thought the Mavs have been an extended shot going into their assembly with Howard and his representatives because of his feeling that Howard was leaning heavily to Houston. Nonetheless, Cuban left the assembly believing that the Mavs had a legit chance, as did Nowitzki.

“I really thought it went great, however the issue with those meetings is they don’t really let on how it went or what they preferred,” Nowitzki mentioned. “They went out of the room, came back in, had a few extra questions for us. We answered these. I assumed Cuban was improbable in his presentation, even offered among the advertising stuff we could have completed right here. So I believed we were really prepared.

“I believed it went properly. But if you ask the other four teams – or Houston acquired him, but the other three that didn’t get him – they’d in all probability say the same. It’s a little deceptive in those meetings. However we gave it our greatest shot. It did not work out our way, and we moved on as a franchise.”

The Mavs moved on by signing several free agents, a crop headlined by guards Jose Calderon (4 years, $29 million) and Monta Ellis (three years, $25 million). The Mavs, who acknowledged that they have been making an attempt to promote Howard on a two-yr rebuilding plan, wouldn’t have been capable of afford both player if they’d signed Howard to a max contract except they made different major roster moves.

Pleased with Plan B – and it’s truly Plan D contemplating the Mavs’ hopes to land Deron Williams or Chris Paul when the original choice was made to strip down the title roster – Cuban insists he’ll have no wonders about what could have been whereas watching Howard play towards the Mavs.

“None. Not even somewhat bit, because I believe we got here out fairly good,” Cuban stated. “If we were caught, then perhaps. However like I say about each different staff, I hope they suck.

“I say that every year. It is nothing private. I nonetheless like Dwight as a person. However I still want the Rockets, like every other staff, to have a horrible season. It is nothing personal. I just need them to suck.”

D’Antoni says Kobe like great Secretariat

Kobe Bryant is used to hearing comparisons to the NBA’s all-time greats, to everybody from Michael Jordan to Elgin Baylor, however Los Angeles Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni referenced not only a different sport but a special species in describing Bryant on Tuesday.

“Kobe is a singular particular person and he’s very headstrong,” D’Antoni instructed “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” on ESPN Radio. “And one of the the reason why he’s been the perfect within the game, and will likely be and is, is that he is that way.

“You are undoubtedly not dealing with him, you are attempting to work with him. And he has sure ideas and you take that away from him after which he turns into slightly bit extra regular. And he’s something but normal. So it’s a problem on the identical time.

“It is most likely like using Secretariat. I imply, you rise up there, there’s numerous instances all you might be doing is using. He’s carrying you. And Kobe’s carrying us rather a lot. Obviously you want to sure things to melt up, however you’ll be able to’t take away his spirit.”

Secretariat, after all, is the thoroughbred racehorse that gained the Triple Crown in 1973 and captivated the nation.

Bryant, in the meantime, is lacking opening night time for the first time since 2006 as he recovers from Achilles surgical procedure on his left leg. D’Antoni confirmed after the shootaround that Steve Nash, Steve Blake, Nick Young, Shawne Williams and Pau Gasol have been the Lakers’ starters in opposition to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Bryant played a median of 45.7 minutes in the seven video games main as much as suffering the Achilles tear on April 12 and later suggested it was his resolution to play as much as he did and that D’Antoni couldn’t have benched him even when the coach had tried.

D’Antoni was asked if a extra aggressive teaching model would be better suited for dealing with the headstrong Bryant.

“I better carry around an elephant gun or something,” D’Antoni joked. “Previous coaches, I think everyone will inform you, you got to be who you are, since you try to be any person you are not and it will get you. It’d work for 5 minutes nevertheless it’s not going to work in the long term. I attempt to stick to who I am and attempt to make it work. I believe the underside line, although there are some bumps and bruises right here and there, is Kobe will lead you to victories.

“And sometimes it’s a must to swallow your pleasure a little bit bit. You may’t get into a ‘put him in a corner, put me in a nook’ form of match. You do not get that far. Generally it takes simply attempting to determine it out collectively. Finally he desires to do the identical thing I do. He wants to be nice and win. And I would like him to be nice and win. So we just received to try to figure it out.”

Los Angeles Clippers coach Doc Rivers stated Tuesday he want to see Bryant play in the remaining three Lakers-Clippers video games this season.

“I’ve two sides to that. The competitive aspect of me says ‘sure,’ ” Rivers mentioned. “The rational facet of me thinks different things. I mean, he will be back. I would like him to be again, I really do. I feel Kobe is important to L.A. I feel he’s important to the NBA and I believe we must always cherish him as long as he’s going to play and I really consider that. I couldn’t stand playing in opposition to him in Boston.

“I can’t get pleasure from playing against him right here, however I do like seeing him on the ground. He is a uncommon one. He’s a one percenter. There may be only a few guys to ever play like Kobe Bryant and I believe all of us, every time we get an opportunity, we should always take that chance and watch him play.”

Within the meantime, the Lakers will try to figure out find out how to win without Bryant, who’s sidelined indefinitely as he continues the rehabilitation course of.

With Bryant out, Dwight Howard with the Houston Rockets and the rest of the Lakers’ roster revolving round growing old superstars in Nash and Gasol, D’Antoni acknowledged that making the postseason might be a tall job.

“I can perceive why ESPN, I feel they picked us 12th and I understand that,” D’Antoni stated, referencing the ESPN.com NBA Summer time Forecast that predicted the Lakers would end twelfth in the Western Conference. “If my producer instructed me, ‘OK, make them 12th,’ I could put out a case there why they’re 12th.

“But when my producer says, ‘Make them a playoff workforce,’ right here you go: Kobe will get effectively, Steve Nash has a very good 12 months, Pau Gasol is without doubt one of the finest centers within the league, they put it together, a couple of the young guys reach the potential that they haven’t but, and that is what we have now to do.

“Maybe I have about six eventualities and 4 of them should work out. You recognize, Xavier Henry has to have a really, really good yr – thus far he has bounced around somewhat bit – so simply so many issues like that that we’re working on, and if that happens, then yeah, we’ll make the playoffs.”

New GM Rosas steps down from Mavericks

The temporary tenure of Gersson Rosas in the Dallas Mavericks’ front office is over.

The Mavericks and Rosas parted firm Tuesday, On the eve of Dallas’ season opener in opposition to the Atlanta Hawks and barely greater than three months after Rosas was hired away from the Houston Rockets’ front office to serve as Dallas’ new general supervisor.

Sources briefed on the state of affairs told ESPN.com that the abrupt parting was triggered by the fact that Rosas – employed by the Mavericks to work in assist of longtime president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson – needed a greater share of management over Dallas’ basketball operations. Issues about how Rosas would fit into the Mavericks’ front-workplace construction and accept a supplementary function to Nelson, sources stated, surfaced nearly instantly after Rosas’ arrival in late July.

“I made the personal decision to resign as general supervisor of the Dallas Mavericks after determining that the place was not one of the best fit for me at this point in my career,” Rosas mentioned in an announcement released by the staff after ESPN.com reported his exit.

“The choice was made solely by me,” Rosas continued, “as I firmly believe this transformation is in my greatest interest.

“Mark Cuban asked me to reconsider my determination, but graciously accepted my choice and we part as buddies. I would like to thank Mark and the Dallas Mavericks for the opportunity.”

The intent when the Mavericks hired Rosas late in free agency was to inject a brand new voice and contemporary ideas in terms of scouting, analytics and recruitment to a entrance-workplace group spearheaded by Nelson and longtime government Keith Grant, whose association with the franchise dates to Dallas’ inaugural NBA season in 1980-81.

The reality in Dallas is that closing say on all matters has at all times belonged to Cuban, one of the league’s extra active homeowners. But Cuban has grown very close to Nelson after effectively over a decade collectively and spelled out clearly in numerous interviews after hiring Rosas that Nelson would remain his top advisor and proper-hand man.

Rosas, 35, labored his manner from an intern to government vice chairman of basketball operations in Houston and was certainly one of three members of the Rockets’ entrance workplace to be poached by different teams through the offseason, following the departures of Sam Hinkie to Philadelphia and Arturas Karnisovas to Denver.

A local of Colombia, Rosas was initially targeted by the Mavericks to bolster their pro and faculty scouting efforts after working extensively with the Rockets’ profitable D-League franchise.
