But Drummond looked overmatched against Howard, who ended up with his highest-scoring game since joining the Rockets in the offseason. Howard went 13 of 18 from the field, while Drummond managed only nine points at the other end.

The Pistons shot 1 of 12 from 3-point range, and they also missed a number of shots inside from point-blank range. Houston lost Friday at Indiana in a 114-81 rout, but the Rockets overcame all their injury problems against Detroit.

"We just have to go out there and play, " Rockets coach Kevin McHale said. "It does not matter how many guys we have. It does not matter who is playing or who is not playing. We just have to go there and play together and play with some toughness. Toughness and togetherness overcomes a lot of stuff. "

Parsons scored 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting for Houston, and Garcia added 16 points starting in place of Harden. Omri Casspi and Aaron Brooks had seven assists each off the bench.

"I thought Aaron had a good game tonight, " McHale said. "I thought Patrick really started off well. We are not going to have Patrick for a while, which means that Jeremy is due to come back. "

Wilson, Seahawks dominate Saints

Seahawks Dominate Saints

SEATTLE – A couple thousand Seahawks fans were crowded in front of the television stage when Russell Wilson walked out of the locker room still in full uniform.

Instantly, the chant started.

Hard to argue against Wilson after a performance like Monday night's.

Wilson threw for 310 yards and three touchdowns, and the Seahawks became the first team to clinch a spot in the NFC playoffs with a 34-7 victory over the New Orleans Saints.

More important than wrapping up a spot in the postseason, the Seahawks (11-1) moved two games ahead of the rest of the NFC in the race for home-field advantage and hold the tiebreakers over New Orleans (9-3) and Carolina (9-3), the two closest pursuers.

The rest of the top teams better get ready to visit the Pacific Northwest in January. After this rout, the road through the NFC playoffs is almost certain to go through Seattle.

"For us to come out in that fashion and to win that game the way that we did was awesome," Wilson said.

Wilson was outstanding, picking apart the Saints' defense. He threw touchdown passes of 2 yards to Zach Miller and 4 yards to Doug Baldwin in the first half as Seattle built a 27-7 lead. Wilson added a pinball 8-yard TD pass to Derrick Coleman in the third quarter.

Wilson completed 22 of 30 passes and finished with a quarterback rating of 139.6. He has 22 regular-season wins in his first two seasons, tied for the most by a second-year QB, and is 14-0 at home.

Michael Bennett had a 22-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the first quarter to give Seattle a 10-0 lead, and the Saints never threatened. It was a dominating performance by the Seahawks, making up for a lackluster effort the last time they were given a national television spotlight, when they were taken to the final yard and final play by St. Louis.

Russell Wilson picked apart the Saints for 310 yards and three touchdowns Monday night.

Not this time. The most anticipated game in the NFC this season was a laugher.

Drew Brees and the Saints were stymied the entire night as he lost for the first time on a Monday night after nine straight wins, and they continued the belief New Orleans can't win outdoors late in the season. New Orleans didn't crack 100 yards of total offense until midway through the third quarter. Jimmy Graham was nearly invisible outside of his franchise-record 12th TD catch of the season in the second quarter that pulled the Saints to 17-7.

Brees finished 23-of-38 for 147 yards. Graham had three catches for 42 yards. Darren Sproles led New Orleans with seven catches, many of those checkdowns. The seven points matched the fewest scored by the Saints since Sean Payton became coach in 2006, and the 188 total yards were the fewest in his coaching tenure.

"Lot of things to look at," Payton said. "Lot of things we didn't do well."

It was K.J. Wright's job to shadow Graham, and he hounded the Saints star all night.

"The coaches told me, 'We're going to let you hold (Graham). Just do your job, win on your leverage, trust your guys around you and just play your best game.' That's what I tried to do," Wright said.

The Saints went three-and-out on their first possession, and that was just the start of their struggles. On their next possession, Brees was hit from behind by Cliff Avril and fumbled into the arms of Bennett, who returned it for the touchdown.

Brees was unable to take advantage of Seattle's depleted secondary. The Seahawks were without Brandon Browner (injury) and Walter Thurmond (suspension) but Byron Maxwell and Jeremy Lane played well in their places.

"We took one in the chin today," Brees said. "We got outplayed today. They played great. They made a lot of plays, and we didn't."

Seattle used the bye week to add wrinkles to its offense. Wilson was a threat not only passing but running, with the zone read again becoming an addition to the playbook. Wilson carried five times in the first half, three of those designed keepers.

But it was his passing that stole the show. Wilson was 14-of-19 in the first half for 226 yards and a rating of 148.1. He found Miller open for a 60-yard catch-and-run early in the second quarter, then capped the drive with a 2-yard touchdown pass to Miller and a 17-0 lead. Wilson later hit Baldwin for 52 yards. Seattle had seven pass completions of 12 or more yards in the first half. The Seahawks finished with 315 first-half yards, the most allowed by the Saints in a first half since 2005 against Minnesota.

Baldwin said Seattle saw a specific blitz package from the Saints on film and that the Seahawks knew they would have chances to go downfield.

"We wanted to be great against the blitz," Wilson said. ".. We knew they were going to bring some pressure and we like the sense of pressure because there is a lot of green grass behind it."

Game notes

Wilson averaged 10.3 yards per pass attempt, while Brees was at 3.9… New Orleans was 25th in the NFL in run defense, but held

Free-kick excitement at end of half falls short with Phil Dawson’s failed attempt

(USA At this time Sports Photographs) Have you learnt the NFL’s free-kick rule? For those who have been watching the top of the primary half of Thursday’s recreation between the San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams, you bought a tutorial. You simply did not see history being made.

The rule is an obscure one. Any group that fair catches a punt then can subsequently attempt a free kick, like a kickoff, that counts for three factors if it goes by the uprights. One of the best half? The protection cannot rush the kick.

That actual scenario performed out on the finish of the first half when the Rams couldn’t run the clock out because the 49ers used all their timeouts. When Kyle Williams truthful caught the ball on the San Francisco 39-yard line, it appeared that Jim Harbaugh would then send out Colin Kaepernick for a ultimate Hail Mary heave with only seconds remaining on the clock.

Not so quick!

The sneaky, obscure-rule-loving Harbaugh instead despatched out kicker Phil Dawson for what would have been double historical past.

The Chargers’ Ray Wersching is believed to be the last person in league history to successfully make a free kick, hitting a 45-yarder against the Buffalo Payments in 1976, though many have tried them through the years, together with Neil Rackers in 2008.

However Dawson’s 71-yard kick would have bested the all-time lengthy mark of sixty three by nearly a whole first down. Sadly, it went method left. At the very least, it was a far more worthwhile try than Rackers’ was.

Maybe it was ill-conceived. Dawson, after all, had missed a fifty three-yard “regular” subject purpose earlier within the sport and is off to a troublesome start this season, having missed as many kicks as he is made since leaving the Cleveland Browns.

Oh nicely. In case you are a football geek, it was thrilling during the buildup.

Brian Hoyer does in first half what Brandon Weeden wishes he could do

(USA At this time Sports activities Images)

Maybe the

Cleveland Browns

should put

Brian Hoyer

on the trade block.

Starting for an injured Brandon Weeden — everyone’s favorite quarterback in Cleveland — Hoyer torched the Minnesota Vikings for three early touchdown throws, certainly one of them to Josh Gordon in his first game of the season.

Who’d have thought it could be an early shootout — Hoyer at Christian Ponder?

Now we know why Hoyer obtained the start over Jason Campbell, Weeden’s de facto backup.

Then, as the ultimate slap in the face of Weeden, field-objective holder Spencer Lanning threw for the third TD of the first half, on a faux.

Philadelphia Eagles’ high-octane offense started with low-grade gasoline in Week 2

(USA Immediately Sports Pictures)

Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly was credited with reshaping the future of NFL offenses after one recreation.

Well, Kelly’s offense came up quick in Week 2 in opposition to the San Diego Chargers.

Philadelphia produced only 10 points within the first half of Sunday’s game. Most NFL observers believed no group might determine find out how to deal with Kelly’s system, but San Diego did a very good job. And Philadelphia’s defense isn’t that good. The Chargers won 33-30 on a area purpose in the final seconds.

The first half was not very prolific for the Eagles, especially in comparison with last week’s first half towards the Redskins.

San Diego had 18 first-downs at halftime time compared to Philadelphia’s 10.

San Diego ran 35 performs in comparison with Philadelphia’s 30.

San Diego compiled 291 yards in comparison with Philadelphia’s 248.

The Eagles’ offense rallied within the second half (Michael Vick finished with 428 yards passing, so it wasn’t all that dangerous), but it surely wasn’t enough to get the win. The Week 2 loss showed that we’d need to pump the breaks a bit on the Philadelphia bandwagon.

Tom Brady masters the struggle face a few times in the first half

You can really feel for Tom Brady. Just a bit bit, anyway.

For a man whom former New England Patriot and current NFL Network commentator Willie McGinest referred to as “irritatingly demanding,” Brady is just not used to what he dealt with Thursday night time.

His game in opposition to the New York Jets was plagued with a limited offensive talent pool, considering the litany of personnel losses the Patriots have suffered, and Brady’s endurance didn’t look like his sturdy suit as New England slid by New York 13-10.

First, after Brady missed Aaron Dobson on a third-and-5 with just over 5 minutes left within the second quarter, the quarterback appeared, um, nonplussed.

Mind you, Brady already had watched Dobson drop two passes and run the improper route in the long run zone, wiping out all the nice emotions from Dobson’s first-NFL-play touchdown. (Nicely, we assume Dobson erred because, you realize, Brady has been to 5 Super Bowls and stuff.)

Then, when Brady got back to the sideline, he let free even more, as you’ll be able to see in the GIF on the high of this put up. Any lip readers out there?

Do we rip Brady for this at all? If it was Jay Cutler, he’d be referred to as a horrible chief. Resumes apart, you must point out the way in which certain quarterbacks are handled shouldn’t be precisely equal.

“I believe I’ve to do a greater job with my physique language, and I undoubtedly can improve that,” Brady stated after the sport. “I would not say it is a real strong point of mine right now.”

That stated, when Julian Edelman is your most dependable receiver, you may see why Brady is perhaps mad. He finished the game 19-of-39 passing for 185 yards and a landing.

Come back soon, Gronk!
