With the NBA season winding down and teams in the Western Conference still battling for positioning, the Memphis Grizzlies will try to move even with the Golden State Warriors when both teams take the floor in Oakland on Friday night.

The playoff seedings are still up for grabs and with not many games separating the fifth and ninth place teams in the tough Western Conference… both the Grizzlies and Warriors understand what is needed the rest of the way so they are not sitting at home come playoff time.

With a win over the Warriors, the surging Memphis Grizzlies (43-28) will have a chance to draw even with six-place Golden State… although I feel confident both teams will advance to the postseason.

The Grizzlies, since Jan. 10 have been one of the hottest and better teams in the league having won 28 of their 37 games, with only the San Antonio Spurs, which has won 15 straight the only hotter team with a better winning percentage. But, prior to the Grizzlies playing the type of basketball we’ve come to expect, they were sitting at the bottom of the Southwest Division at 15-19.

Memphis has won three straight and nine of 11 games and with the likes Portland, Golden State, Dallas and Phoenix all fighting for the final four playoff spots, the Grizzlies must continue to use what has gotten them to where they are… defense.

We know how important each of these games are for us,” said Marc Gasol, who along with Zach Randolph and Mike Conely are the cornerstones of this team.

With a win in Oakland, a place where they have had success in recent years, the Grizzlies can move a season-high 16 games above .500 and having won 15 of 19 games versus the West with the Trail Blazers coming up on Sunday, Memphis is poised to continue their success and make a strong playoff push.

After five days off, a well rested Golden State team will try to bounce back following last Saturday’s 99-90 home loss to San Antonio, a team that won without Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili in the lineup.

It’s a disappointing loss,” said Warriors’ coach Mark Jackson, who along with the Grizzlies are 13-5 since the All-Star break. “It’ll make us better.”

Starting swingman Andre Iguadala will be back in the lineup after missing the last three games due to a sore right knee and will give the Warriors another offensive weapon along with Stephen Curry, David Lee and Klay Thompson to go up against the tough defense of the Grizzlies who have allowed an NBA-low 90.2 points per game since the return of Gasol back on Jan. 14.

Golden State is a team that lives and dies from the outside and it’s all-or-nothing for them, where in their seven wins since March 5 have averaged 110.1 points per game and in their three losses have averaged only 94.0 ppg.

Memphis has won the last five contests in Oakland holding the home Warriors to only 88.8 points per game, but the oddsmakers are giving Golden State the slight edge making them a (minus -2.0) point favorite with an over/under of 188.0, but get the latest odds on the game up until tipoff right here at Wonder Punter.

It will be the high powered offense of Golden State versus the stingy defense of Memphis on Friday night and we all know defense wins games. Expect a good close game between these two teams but I predict the Grizzlies to continue form and leave Oakland with a tough road victory.

Spurs outlast Warriors for 13th straight win

OAKLAND, Calif. – No matter the lineup or location, the San Antonio Spurs are rolling by way of the NBA once more this spring, simply the way in which they’ve for many of the last two decades.

Particularly against Golden State.

Tony Parker had 20 points and five assists, Danny Green scored 18 points and the short-handed Spurs outlasted the Warriors 99-ninety on Saturday night time for their 13th straight victory.

“I assume they believe in themselves and in the system, they usually just hold working it. Other than that, I do not really know what to tell you,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich stated. “They’ve simply obtained great character. They by no means give in, and I feel they like the challenge when guys are out. They seem to take pleasure in it.”

Tiago Splitter added 17 factors and 14 rebounds because the league-leading Spurs (fifty three-16) pulled away with an eleven-0 run early within the fourth quarter. San Antonio, riding its longest successful streak in seven years, is 2 video games ahead of Oklahoma Metropolis for the top playoff seed in the Western Conference.

The Spurs did it even while resting stars Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili. They are 3-0 in opposition to Golden State this season, together with two wins in Oakland without their regulars, after eliminating the Warriors in the second round of the playoffs last yr.

“Everybody stepped up,” Parker stated. “When somebody’s not playing, it’s just different guys who will do it. And we belief one another.”

Stephen Curry scored 20 factors to go with six assists and six rebounds, and Andrew Bogut grabbed 17 boards because the Warriors head into a 5-day break on a bitter observe.

The Warriors (forty four-27) had won three straight but missed an opportunity to move up within the playoff chase after Portland lost at Charlotte. Golden State is still in sixth place in the West, 1 games behind the Trail Blazers and 1 ahead of Dallas.

San Antonio has won 51 of the past 59 conferences in opposition to the Warriors.

“We made some mistakes. It’s a disappointing loss. It’ll make us better,” Warriors coach Mark Jackson said. “Hopefully we see them down the street again, however there is a purpose why they’re the very best staff in basketball.”

After wins at the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night and at Sacramento on Friday night time, Popovich rested two of his veterans as he so typically does all through the NBA’s marathon schedule. Duncan, Ginobili and Parker all sat out San Antonio’s 104-102 victory against the Warriors on Dec. 19.

Jackson has been trying to take an analogous method during the season’s stretch run, although the wins aren’t all the time following. Swingman Andre Iguodala was inactive for the third straight sport with tendinitis in his right knee, and backup middle Jermaine O’Neal returned after sitting out the earlier two video games.

Even with all the lineup adjustments, Jackson noticed the matchup towards the Spurs as a “benchmark” for the place his team stands. He joked earlier than the game that the Spurs are like a bunch of “outdated dudes” at a leisure center whipping a bunch of high school All-People due to their smarts and savvy.

And that’s simply what it looked like firstly.

The Spurs opened the sport on a 22-7 run and held the lead a lot of the means. After the Warriors moved within four within the fourth quarter, Green’s 3-pointer capped an 11-0 spurt that put San Antonio ahead 87-74.

The Warriors made one final push before the Spurs rapidly regrouped. Parker spun for a reverse layup and Green came again with one other 3 to stretch San Antonio’s lead again to ninety four-82 with 2:18 left, sending a lot of the announced sellout crowd of 19,596 headed to the exits.

“I couldn’t be more proud of them,” Popovich said. “Their effort with three games in 4 nights, this late in the season, and the again-to-again tonight, to finish off the three in 4 was real special as a result of everyone came off the bench and they gave the trouble they wanted to offer and I’m simply thrilled for them.”

The Spurs showed off all their best attributes via the game: smothering protection, precision passing and sharp taking pictures. The Warriors lastly discovered their touch late within the second quarter, once they scored 10 straight points and sliced San Antonio’s result in 50-47 at the half.

The teams traded scores for a lot of the third quarter, and the Warriors briefly took a one-level lead. The Spurs put collectively one other surge to go forward seventy six-69 entering the fourth quarter, and held on for their longest winning streak since rolling off thirteen in a row was from Feb. 13 to March 13, 2007.

“You don’t win 50-something odd games at this level and not have a good second unit,” said O’Neal, who had 9 points and seven rebounds. “They actually fly round.”

NOTES: Spurs reserve F Matt Bonner additionally sat out with a strained proper calf… San Antonio (15-1) and Golden State (thirteen-5) have probably the most wins within the NBA since the All-Star break… The Spurs and Warriors meet for the ultimate time this season April 2 in San Antonio.

NBA Prediction Wednesday Night Preview- Golden State vs. Los Angeles

Golden State Warriors (41-24, 20-14 away) @ Los Angeles Clippers (45-20, 27-5 home) 03/12- 10:30PM EST

Line: LAC -7.0

Over/Under- 211.0

The Golden State Warriors will travel into Staples Center on Wednesday night to try to slow down the red-hot Los Angeles Clippers, who have won eight straight and lead the Pacific Division.

The Warriors (41-24) have been on a tear of their own, but thanks in large part to Blake Griffin, the Clippers (45-20) are enjoying their longest win streak of the season and lighting up the scoreboard to the tune of 115.0 per game to bump their season average to 107.8 per contest.

Griffin, coming off a 37-point performance in a 112-105 win over the Phoenix Suns on Monday night has now scored at least 20 points a game over a career-high 23 games. Over that span he is now averaging 27.8 to boost his season average to 24.4 points per game.

He is one of those players you can’t stop,” teammate Danny Granger said.

The four-time All-Star has developed his game year after year since coming into the league and everybody is taking notice.

Blake has been doing it all year long, dominating all year long, he’s being consistent,” guard Darrin Collison said. “I think we are used to it which is a good thing. … He’s just reading the defense, if they’re pressing on him, he’s using his strength. If they’re playing off him, he’s taking that shot. He’s playing with a lot confidence right now.”

As well as the Clippers have been playing, the Warriors are right there with them having won five in a row to put themselves four games behind them in the Pacific Division and now sit three games ahead of the Dallas Mavericks and Memphis Grizzlies for the sixth spot in the Western Conference.

Golden State took apart the Mavericks on Tuesday night winning easily 108-85 thanks in part to another great defensive performance to give themselves a bit of breathing room against the teams chasing them for a playoff spot. They held the Mavs to just 36.6 percent shooting.

It’s a big-time win for us,” coach Mark Jackson said. “If you lose this game, then all of the sudden there’s three teams again within striking distance. I think this gave us some breathing room, especially with the fact that we have a big game (Wednesday) night against a red-hot Clippers team.”

The Warriors with their high-scoring offense combined with their stingy defense of late are winning by an average of 15.7 points over their last four games.

It’s fun,” Golden State reserve Jordan Crawford said who put up 19 points against the Mavericks. “To be on a streak like this heading into the playoffs and to move up the standings, it brings the competitive spirit out in everybody.”

Leading scorer Stephen Curry (23.3 ppg) has been slowed down offensively as he tries to play through a quadriceps injury averaging only 14.8 points during their winning streak.

With the final clash of these two teams for the regular-season on Wednesday night, there is no love-lost between them, so expect a high intensity game and perhaps some chippiness. Both teams are on fire, but oddsmakers are giving the home town Clippers a big (minus 7-0) point edge but stay up-to-date on the latest spread as game time approaches right here at Wonder Punter.

Golden State has won seven of the last ten against the Clippers but have dropped six of eight at Staples Center and playing in the second of a back-to-back I favor the Clippers to win a good one to increase their lead in the Pacific Division.

NBA Free Pick & Prediction Suns v. Warriors

After a huge home win against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Phoenix Suns will look to win the season-series against the Golden State Warriors on Sunday evening.

The Warriors, known for their offense all season have been getting it done with some solid defense as of late, winning three straight and all with a slumping Stephen Curry, who has failed to score over 20 points in four consecutive games for the first time in 2014. Golden State (39-24) is 8-2 since the All-Star break and understand it will be the defense that will ultimately win them games as no team as scored over 100 points during their three-game win streak and are 30-4 when they can keep their opponents under the century mark.

All in all I think we’re doing a great job of understanding who we are. We are a defensive-minded team,” center Jermaine O’Neil said. “We’ve got guys who can score the basketball, but I don’t want anybody to be fooled; we are a defensive-minded team and if we’re going to win it all, that’s what’s going to help us win it all.”

For Phoenix (36-25), despite winning three-of-four games, defense has taken a back seat to this high-scoring team who have allowed an average of 112.0 points over their last seven games. But, the bright spot has been the play of 7-year veteran Gerald Green over his last two games going for 33 in a 129-120 win over the Atlanta Hawks and for a career-high 41 in a 128-122 victory over Oklahoma City to help the Suns rally from a 16-point deficit.

I love the way he’s playing right now,” coach Jeff Hornacek said of Green. “We knew he could shoot the ball. There’s not too many guys that can get on a roll like that.”

Green entered this season with his seventh team with a career average of 9.4 points per game, however since Feb. 8 has been among the league leaders with 23.3 points per contest. Green scored 25 in a 122-109 win over the Warriors that night.

Goran Dragic has been big as well coming off a 40-point win last week against New Orleans and is averaging 25.2 points in his last five road games and with the Suns opening a nine-day stretch in which they play five of six on the road and trailing the Warriors by two games for sixth in the Western Conference…. Sunday’s game is a huge one along with every other game from this point on.

Phoenix is playing great basketball. They’re trying to knock on our door for that sixth spot,” said O’Neil. “They play with great speed, they play together, they shoot a lot of 3s. We’re going to try to slow those guys down and put them in a difficult situation on the defensive end.”

The Suns have taken two of three so far, but they got spanked 115-86 back in Oakland on Dec. 27 to give them four-straight losses in the Bay Area and with the way the Warriors are playing defense, the oddsmakers have made Golden State a (minus -7.5) point favorite, but get the latest spread up until game time right here at Wonder Punter.

Stephen Curry went for a triple-double in that big win with 14 points and career-highs of 16 assists and 13 boards and I expect him to shake off his slump and lead his team to a big win on Sunday night to help give the Warriors some breathing room over the charging Phoenix Suns.

Following their big 103-97 win at Phoenix on Tuesday night, the Miami Heat will be looking to win another tough road game in the second of a back-to-back at Golden State on Wednesday night.

The Heat (36-14) came away with a big win on Tuesday without the services of Dwayne Wade, who was a late scratch due to a migraine but thanks to LeBron James who went off for 37 points on 12-of-22 shooting, the Heat will look for their second straight win before heading into the All-Star game.

With Wade on the bench, he watched as his team rallied from an early 12 point deficit to go 2-1 on a six-game road trip. The Heat are 8-6 on the year with Wade out of the lineup, compared to 28-8 when in uniform.

All-Star Wade had been on a roll over his previous four games averaging 21.3 points on 62.5 percent shooting and although he did travel with the team to Oakland, he remains questionable for Wednesday’s contest.

For Golden State (31-21), they will be looking to sweep the season series against the Heat after beating them 123-114 back on Jan. 2 in Miami… a game in which All-Star Stephen Curry went for 36 points, including 8 of 15 from behind the arc. Curry also dished out 12 assists.

One of the best shooters this NBA will see,” James said of Curry. “I mean, if you can find a better shooter than him right now, especially with the way he handles the ball—and the light that he has, it’s more than green, it’s fluorescent—you hope that he misses.”

The Warriors have been struggling over their last 15 games at 7-8 and with both centers Andrew Bogut (shoulder) and Jermaine O’Neil (wrist) out with injuries and David Lee listed as day-to-day, the Warriors will need another big night from Curry and also Klay Thompson if they want to come away with a win on Wednesday night.

Despite their lack of depth at center and struggles as of late, the oddsmakers have made the home Warriors a slim (minus -1.5) point favorite but stay up to date with the latest spread up until tip off right here at Wonder Punter.

It’s always tough for any team to win on the second game of a back-to-back, but I just feel Miami will surprise the Warriors on Wednesday night and predict the Heat leaving Oakland with a big win going into the All-Star break. Expect a close and exciting game from tip to finish as both teams want to finish the first half of the season strong.

On Tuesday night, the Golden State Warriors will look to keep the momentum going against the visiting Washington Wizards after shutting down the NBA’s highest scoring team… the Portland Trailblazers on their last time out.

The Warriors (27-18) have enjoyed recent success against the Wizards beating them six straight times and are 10-3 this season against the Eastern Conference, but are just 2-5 in their last seven games allowing 108.4 points per game on 47.8 percent shooting. Before their defense decided to go south, they had been holding opposing teams to 98.3 on 42.9 percent.

However, the Warriors defense made a guest appearance on Sunday night as they held the Blazers to just 33.7 percent in a 103-88 win to snap a three-game skid. “Just what the doctor ordered,” Golden State coach Mark Jackson said.

All-Star Stephen Curry is the go-to man when it comes to scoring (24.1 ppg) to help pace the Warriors at 104.0 points per game, but understands defense is the key to winning…. “We understand that’s been one of our problems—just letting teams kind of cake walk around on the offensive end doing whatever they want to do early in the game,” Curry said.

As for the Wizards (21-22), they are a much improved team from last year, but are still performing below expectations this season as Saturday’s loss to Utah 104-101 denied them their sixth opportunity to go over the .500 mark for the first time since starting 2-1 back in the 2009-10 season. Their knock has been they are playing at their opponents level as evident in their loss against lowly Utah.

We were running in mud half the game, in my opinion,” coach Randy Wittman said. “We wouldn’t commit ourselves to our pace.”

Washington had won five of six away from home before Saturday’s loss, and it’s no surprise the success of the Wizards is on the shoulders of point guard John Wall (20.0 ppg, 8.0 assists per game) who must perform at a high level every night to give his team a chance to win, especially with a bench that only scores 24.8 points per game.

The Warriors are last in the league in bench scoring with 22.9 and were outscored 51-27 but won 112-96 win at Washington back on Jan. 5, a game that saw Golden State beat the Wizards for the tenth time in thirteen meetings.

Golden State starters center Andrew Bogut (8.0 ppg) and power forward David Lee (19.2) are listed as day-to-day, so look for guard Klay Thompson (19.0) along with Curry to keep the offense productive.

Despite the recent struggles on the defensive side of the ball for the Warriors, the oddsmakers have made them a big (minus -8.0) point favorite at home, but stay up to date with the latest odds on the game up until tipoff right here at Wonder Punter.

I like the young Wizards, but with the Warriors having won six straight in the series, I see no reason for them not to have a let down on Tuesday night and predict Golden State winning easy.

Riding back-to-back wins over the Houston Rockets, the Memphis Grizzlies will travel into Portland on Tuesday night to face a Blazers team looking to bounce back after a 15 point loss to Golden State.

Memphis (22-20) is 4-1 in their last five games but will take on a Trailblazers team in search of their sixth straight home win and getting back to winning after going 2-3 in their last five games.

In Saturday’s loss to Golden State, the Blazers shot a season-low 33.7 percent while their 15 point loss equaled their season worse.

That’s a rough game,” coach Terry Stouts said. “Golden State did a nice job with its defense. It was one of those nights where we didn’t have enough at the offensive end.”

For Portland of late, they have been a different team at home versus on the road… at home they are outscoring their opponents by an average of 10.4 points where as on the road in their last three defeats, they have been outscored by an average of 12.0 points.

Memphis (22-20) has won three consecutive games away from home and have seem to finally been playing like the team we expected all year long with the return of last season’s reigning NBA defensive player of the year Marc Gasol. In their past six games with Gasol back in the lineup, the Grizzlies have stepped it up on the defensive end allowing just 86.2 points per game on 40.3 percent shooting.

In their home-and-home sweep of Houston, Memphis held the high scoring Rockets to an average of just 84.0 points in the two games… 21 below their season average on just 38.8 percent shooting.

We’re ready to win and we prepare like we want to win,” forward James Johnson said. We travel like we want to win, and everybody is holding each other accountable. When you put those things together, we beat teams bad.”

The Grizzlies will have another true test on Tuesday night as they will face the NBA’s highest scoring team at 109.0 points per contest and who have always played well at home. The Grizzlies did however take the final three games over the Blazers last season.

And for a Memphis team that reached the Western Conference finals last year, Tuesday’s showdown will also be a great measuring stick for the Trailblazers who have exceeded expectations this season so far.

Oddsmakers are making the Blazers a slight (minus -4.5) point favorite at home, but get the latest spread on the game up until tipoff right here at Wonder Punter.

Shooting guard Tony Allen will be out of action for Tuesday’s game for Memphis and small-forward Nicolas Batum is listed as day-to-day, but look for all the stars of both teams to step up and shine in Tuesday’s important matchup… LaMarcus Aldridge (24.3ppg) and Damien Lilliard (20.7, 5.7 assists per game) and for the Grizzlies… Zach Randolph (17.0 ppg) and Mike Conley (18.0, 6.2 apg) to all bring their ‘A’ game. In the end, a great game is expected, but it will be tough to go against the Blazers at home. I favor and predict the Trailblazers winning in a close one.

Nets end Warriors’ win streak, run at history

Nets Snap Warriors' Streak At 10video
Nets Stop Warriors With Defense

NEW YORK – The Road Warriors' run is finished. The Brooklyn Nets are suddenly the NBA's hottest team.

Joe Johnson scored 27 points in the Nets' season-high fourth straight victory, a 102-98 win Wednesday night that snapped Golden State's 10-game winning streak and prevented the first 7-0 road trip in NBA history.

Kevin Garnett scored 11 of his 13 points, one of his best efforts in a Brooklyn uniform, in the final quarter and stole Stephen Curry's pass with the Warriors down three with 12 seconds left as the Nets overcame an early 16-point hole."They came out and gave us a big blow in the first quarter. I thought we kept our composure and then fought back, " said Garnett, who was in double figures for just the sixth time this season."That's a very good team that we played tonight and a very good team that we beat tonight. "Shaun Livingston made the tiebreaking free throw with 1: 12 left when he appeared to get away with hooking Curry, then Johnson made four in a row for just enough breathing room to allow the Nets to remain unbeaten in 2014 and climb into eighth place in the Eastern Conference

Curry scored 34 points for the Warriors, who were bidding for a franchise-record 11th consecutive victory overall and the first unbeaten road trip of seven or more games in NBA history. But they didn't make a field goal after Klay Thompson's 3-pointer with 4: 07 remaining that gave them a 93-89 lead until Curry's jumper with 5. 8 seconds to go.

"Certainly a tough loss, " Warriors coach Mark Jackson said. "Disappointed that we did not finish it the right way. Give them credit. It was a great job by them, but we will not lose sight of the fact that we were 6-1 on this road trip. "

Brooklyn scored nine straight points after Thompson's basket as fans stood across the final minutes of one of the Nets' most spirited efforts of the season – some taunting director and Knicks fan Spike Lee, who sat courtside wearing a hat in the Nets' black-and-white colors but read "KNICKS. ""We got down, but we didn't give in, " said Andray Blatche, who had 17 points off the bench. "We continued to fight and we closed it out. "

Livingston finished with 13 points for the Nets, playing without point guard Deron Williams after he underwent treatment for both ankles this week. They will try to wrap up a perfect homestand Friday against Miami.

The Nets snapped a winning streak of 10 or more games for the third time in their NBA history, having ended Detroit's 11-game run on Jan. 31, 2006, and the SuperSonics' 12-game streak on Nov. 21, 1982, in Seattle.

David Lee scored 20 points for the Warriors, who ran out of gas just shy of the record books and had to settle for their second 6-1 road trip in the last two years.

Their trip started on Dec. 29 in Cleveland, and included an impressive victory at Miami, but perhaps left the Warriors with too little left after a 101-80 win at Milwaukee on Tuesday.

"It's a long road trip, but you can't let that be an excuse for how the game ended, " Curry said. "We've got to find a way to win. "

Golden State made its first four 3-pointers in racing to a 20-10 lead, and it was 32-16 after Harrison Barnes' 3-pointer made the Warriors 13 of 17 from the field and 5 of 6 behind the arc.

But Mirza Teletovic and Johnson hit 3s before the period ended and the Nets forced Golden State to miss six straight shots to generate some momentum. Brooklyn then surged ahead late in the second with a 14-4 run, and brought a 59-52 lead to the locker room on Teletovic's 3 that beat the buzzer.

"We just kept playing, " Livingston said. "I think we locked in. I mean, we were playing good D. They hit some shots, they came out guns blazing. "

Livingston's dunk gave Brooklyn a 67-56 lead with 6: 46 left in the third, but the Nets managed just eight free throws the rest of the period. Barnes' 3-pointer with 32 seconds left gave the Warriors a 76-75 lead to take to the fourth.

Game notes

The Nets won for the first time in seven games on Wednesdays this season… Jackson was born in Brooklyn, while Nets coach Jason Kidd grew up in the Bayand used to attend Golden State games. Kidd called Jackson, also a former point guard who became an NBA head coach without any coaching experience, a "role model" and both said they have talked during the season as Kidd makes that transition now.

Curry pours in 36 as Warriors pile it on Heat

Warriors Win Seventh Straight

MIAMI – Recreation-high in points. Game-high in assists. Recreation-excessive in steals. Oh, and for good measure, he made as many 3-pointers as all the Miami Warmth roster.

Stephen Curry had another night time to recollect.

And the Golden State Warriors continued their surge.

Curry completed with 36 points, 12 assists, four steals and made eight 3-pointers, David Lee completed with 32 factors and 14 rebounds, and the Warriors ran past the Warmth 123-114 Thursday night to extend the NBA's longest present successful streak to seven games.

"Curry was spectacular," Warriors coach Mark Jackson said. "If he would not make the All-Star team, I would retire."

If the Warmth had a vote, Jackson's job could be protected.

"Probably the greatest shooters this NBA will see," Heat star LeBron James mentioned. "I mean, if you will discover a better shooter than him right now, particularly with the best way he handles the ball – and the light that he has, it is greater than green, it's fluorescent – you simply hope that he misses."

He did miss a few. Just not very many.

Curry was 13 for 22 from the floor, eight of 15 from past the arc. Lee made thirteen of 17 photographs. The Warriors made 15 three-pointers; the Warmth managed solely eight.

"It's a good experience in opposition to a championship-caliber team," Curry mentioned. "They know tips on how to get it achieved so to return in here and play the way we did, it exhibits we're on the fitting path."

Klay Thompson scored 16 points and Harrison Barnes added 15 for the Warriors.

James scored 26 points and Dwyane Wade added 22 for the Warmth, who had all five starters in double figures. Chris Bosh scored 19, Mario Chalmers had 17 and Shane Battier added eleven for Miami.

However the Warmth allowed Golden State to shoot fifty six %, plus finish with a forty-31 rebounding edge.

"They performed a heck of a ball sport," Warmth coach Erik Spoelstra mentioned. "They deserved to win this one."

About the only blip for the Warriors were turnovers. They'd 20, which Miami changed into 32 points. Without those, this may need been rather a lot worse.

"More than anything it retains the ball rolling," Lee stated after matching his season-excessive for scoring. "Anytime you play the champions like this it is a measuring level. Tonight was no exception."

They were sizzling from the get-go. The Warriors opened by making eleven of their first 13 pictures – and somewhat unbelievably, had been trailing at time, down 29-28 for a couple of seconds late within the first quarter.

Golden State scored on 14 of its first 21 possessions and led 38-33 after the opening quarter, placing up the highest point total for any period towards the Heat this season. Issues cooled, albeit slightly, in the second, and the Warriors went into the break with a 65-sixty one advantage.

After which the third quarter was all about Curry.

He was dazzling, wowing Julius Erving at one finish, Johnny Manziel on the opposite and just about frustrating the Heat in any respect factors in between.

"Nothing you can do," Wade mentioned. "You contest it and hope he misses."

Curry went on a private 7-0 run early in the interval, all of them jumpers, one the place he gave a fast look-back to James after a excessive-arcing, excessive-difficulty connection from the appropriate nook. That barrage gave Golden State a 13-point lead, and a 3 from Curry put the Warriors up 91-seventy six with 3:27 left in the quarter.

Curry had 14 in the quarter, matching his output from the whole first half. The lead was all the way down to 9 getting into the fourth, down to 6 when James made a 3-pointer with 5:18 left – however Curry's ultimate three of the night time pushed the margin back to nine with about 3 minutes remaining, and the Heat by no means obtained closer.

"Classic Steph," Lee stated.

Game notes

Golden State's 123 factors were probably the most allowed by the Warmth at home in a non-time beyond regulation game since James, Wade and Bosh became teammates… Attendance was 20,350, tying the largest house common-season crowd for the Heat at AmericanAirlines Arena… The one others with at the least 35 points and 12 assists towards Miami in a sport: Michael Jordan and Allen Iverson

NBA Playoffs: Who Survives the Loaded Western Conference? Predictions

western conference

NBA Prediction Western Conference 2013

On Wednesday, we set our sights on the playoffs by predicting which eight teams comprise the Eastern Conference playoff bracket. As a follow-up, we will now shift our focus to the Western Conference and project the eventual representatives.

The Western Conference is decidedly stronger than the East this year based on team records. As of Friday, the team in ninth overall place in the West, Golden State, boasts a record of 14-13. This record would be good enough for 4th in the East, but unfortunately places the Warriors in the lottery based on the loaded Western Conference.

Were the season to end tonight, the Western Conference playoff representatives would comprise, in order, of Oklahoma City, Portland, San Antonio, Los Angeles (Clippers), Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, and Denver. This current standing is a result of some unexpected early season performances.

Portland has been the most surprisingly upstart team of from the West so far. A balanced rotation and lethal offense has given way to a league-best 22 wins. An equally surprising playoff team, as of today, is Phoenix. Loaded with young talent and playing cohesively under first-year head coach Jeff Hornacek, the Suns appear well-suited to compete for a playoff berth.

It may be easier to predict the playoff representatives by eliminating the teams set on “tanking” this season. Sacramento and Utah, though they both play host to an abundance of young talent in players like DeMarcus Cousins, Ben McLemore, Derrick Favors, and Trey Burke, would be better suited to set their sights on the NBA Draft, when college phenoms Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, and Julius Randle are expected to declare for the pro’s.

For four of the teams currently out of the playoff mix, injuries have been a source of collective misfortune. Golden State, at ninth, lost Andre Iguodala to a hamstring injury for 12 games, posting a record of 5-7. The Los Angeles Lakers, 11th with a record of 12-13, have been derailed by injuries to their entire point guard staff, and Kobe Bryant’s latest injury is sure to set them back even further.

New Orleans was without budding star Anthony Davis for seven days after the sophomore power forward broke his hand, and the Pelicans went 3-4 in his absence. Memphis has likely been the most unlucky team out of all of them, as they have had to play without Defensive Player of the Year Marc Gasol, starters Mike Conley and Tayshaun Prince, and rotational swingman Quincy Pondexter who has been lost for the season.

Of the teams currently outside of the playoff mix, the ones most likely to play their way out of the lottery would have to be Golden State and Minnesota. The Warriors possess possibly the most dangerous offenses led by “Splash Brothers” Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Iguodala’s return to the lineup shores up the team’s defense and allows second-year wing Harrison Barnes to return to the bench.

The Timberwolves have lighting it up of the offensive end, coming into Friday scoring the 3rd most PPG at 105.7. Their most apparent struggles have been on the road (5-9) and against other teams in the Western Conference (6-8).

As for the teams most likely to fall out of the playoff picture, Phoenix is definitely the most prime suspect. With the eighth toughest Strength of Schedule in the league, the Suns can be expected to succumb to their lack of veteran leadership, and they would also be better suited to try their luck in the upcoming draft.

We can say with reasonable certainty that there are five locks in the West for the playoffs: Oklahoma City, Portland, San Antonio, Los Angeles, and Houston. Assuming the Suns eventual regression, that leaves three spot for four real contenders in Dallas, Denver, Golden State, and Minnesota. Denver can probably be counted on to stumble a bit without projected starters Danilo Gallinari and Javale McGee, both of whom are without timetables for their returns. They should be able to hang on to one of the last two playoff spots, as fellow competitor Minnesota has the second toughest schedule in the NBA.

We’re counting on the eventual Western Conference playoff bracket consisting of, in no particular order, Oklahoma City, Portland, San Antonio, Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Denver, and Golden State. Look for us to revisit these projections as the season winds on.

NBA Prediction Week 7 Game Preview/Pick- Pelican vs. Warriors

New Orleans Pelicans (11-11) @ Golden State Warriors (13-12) 12/17- 10:30PM EST

Line: GSW -8.0

Over/Under: 207

The Golden State Warriors, losers of their last two out of three and two in a row look to get back to winning when they host the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday night.

Golden State coach Mark Jackson believes in order for that happen, they must first put in the effort and now is the time, as they get ready to open a three-game home stand.

Much of the problem with the Warriors can be contributed to turnovers due to the absence of primary ball handler Andre Iguodala who has missed the last 12 games because of a starined left hamstring.

The Warriors turnovers per game has climbed to 17.2 per game—among the worst in the league. Shooting guard Stephen Curry has been struggling in the role of playmaker as he has committed 59 turnovers in Iguodala’s absence.

In their game versus the Phoenix Suns, the Warriors committed 20 turnovers in a 106-102 defeat.

Right now the turnovers are hurting us and we are not playing 48 minutes with a sense of urgency,” Jackson said. “We came in talking about we had to be the hardest working team because this team plays extremely hard and they’re talented, and we did not do that. I’m disappointed and we’ve got to find answers, individually and collectively.”

Jackson in his frustration went on to say…. “I am finding that the guys in the suit and tie want it more than the guys in uniform.”

With Iguodala’s return still uncertain, the Warriors (13-12) are also looking to Klay Thompson to getting back to a hot hand, where right now he is shooting just 33.3 percent, averaging 15.0 points, but is just 6 of 20 from 3-point range.

The Pelicans (11-11) find themselves trying to stay afloat as well as their top player Anthony Davis recovers from a broken hand suffered back on December 1st. Guard Tyreke Evans is still out with sprained ankle as well.

The team is 3-3 in Davis’ absence and are in a second game of a five-game road trip, which concerns coach Monty Williams after Sunday’s 102-93 loss to Denver.

We just didn’t have the type of juice that you need to have on the road to win a game,” Williams said.”

The Pelicans are now 4-6 away from home and guard Jrue Holiday adds… “There are a lot games left. This is a big road trip.”

The Warriors have won five straight and seven of their past nine against the Pelicans, the oddsmakers have made Golden State a big (minus -8.0) point favorite against the visiting Pelicans, but get the latest spread on the game up until tip off right here at Wonder Punter.

Despite, the absence of Iguodala, the Warriors are still a dangerous team and I predict them winning big on Tuesday night to open their home stand.

NBA Prediction Week 6 Wednesday Night Game Preview/Pick- Dallas vs. Golden State

nba picks

NBA Free Pick & Prediction Mavericks vs. Warriors

Dallas Mavericks (13-9) @ Golden State Warriors (12-10) 12/11- 10:30PM EST

Line: GSW -6.0

Over/Under: 209

As the Golden State Warriors prepare for a stretch of a home-heavy schedule that they want to take full advantage of, they first must improve on the defensive side of the ball while riding a hot Stephen Curry.

Warriors coach Mark Jackson believes Curry is playing his best basketball where he is averaging 30.1 points while hitting 26 3s in his last seven games. The fifth-year guard is averaging career highs of 23.6 points to go along with 8.9 assists.

In Monday night’s game against Charlotte, Curry finished had a season-high 43 points, including five 3-pointers along with nine assists in a 115-11 loss.

He’s been playing at a whole different level,” Jackson said. “He’s playing and acting like he’s the best player on the floor night in and night out, carrying us down the stretch, making plays, choosing when to take over offensively and he know when to facilitate.”

But, it’s the defensive play that has Mark Jackson worried as his Warriors (12-10) get set to take on two of the highest-scoring teams in the league, Dallas (103.4) and the Houston Rockets (107.5) on Friday.

But, first up is the Mavericks (13-9), who look to win their second-straight over the Warriors after winning 103-99 in Dallas on November 27th.

Curry had a game-high 29 points and went 6 of 10 from behind the arc in that contest.

Golden State survived a tough stretch in which they played seven of eight on the road, going 4-4, but will now play seven of their next nine games in Oakland, where they are 6-2.

And it’s that home record that has made the Warriors a big (minus) -6.0 point favorite over the Mavs. With the line likely to move, get the latest up to the minute spread up until tip off right here at Wonder Punter.

In the past 11 games, the Warriors allowed teams to hit the 100 mark nine times, whereas in their first 11 games, opponents hit the century mark only three times.

Dallas, who had won three-straight, looks to rebound after losing to the Sacramento Kings 112-97 on Monday night, but with a win against the Warriors can wrap a four-game swing with three victories.

We’re doing great on the road,” guard Jose Calderon said. “It was two (wins) in a row, so we wanted to go four out of four. … We’ve got to try to put that one out (of our minds) and just try to forget about it.

Much of Dallas’ success this season can be attributed the off season signing of ex-Warrior Monta Ellis, who is averaging a team-high 21.5 points per game to compliment Dirk Nowitski, who is averaging 21.1 points per contest.

The Warriors have won the last two overall meetings over the Mavericks and three of four at home against them and it’s with their recent home success that I predict the Warriors winning Wednesday night.

On the Golden State Warriors: taking the 3-and-D concept to the extreme

Nov 16, 2013; Oakland, CA, USA; Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry (30) attempts a shot in opposition to the Utah Jazz in the second quarter at Oracle Enviornment. Obligatory Credit: Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports activities

Lately, the idea of “three-and-D” function players has been popularized all through the NBA, and for good purpose. Teams have appropriately discovered that three-level shots and attempts at the rim are essentially the most environment friendly shots on the court, and subsequently are key parts of profitable in immediately’s NBA.

Conversely, defending the three-ball and accumulating points in the paint are vitally essential in their very own right. There are a dearth of true submit scorers within the league immediately, which means that players that can each shoot the three and defend on the perimeter (thus guarding towards the three-point shot and conserving opposing guards from easily stepping into the lane) are at a premium.

There are only a specific amount of stars within the NBA, of course. And groups have recognized that the role players that fill in round these stars must do a minimum of one factor exceptionally, or a couple of issues fairly effectively. Some of the frequent overlapping talent sets is capturing and protection, or, on the very least, the flexibility to protect the perimeter at a mean rate without fouling.

The Houston Rockets have been masters of accumulating these position players for years, from the times of Ron Artest and Courtney Lee, to Chase Budinger and Carlos Delfino, to Chandler Parsons, Omri Casspi, and Francisco Garcia. A excessive volume of three-point pictures at good effectivity, plus stable, no-foul perimeter defense equals profitable basketball.

Now, we arrive on the 2013-14 Golden State Warriors. This is a group that, after it’s gutsy swap that centered around giving leading scorer Monta Ellis to accumulate oft-injured but defensive-minded center Andrew Bogut from Milwaukee, had quite a lot of query marks getting into the 2012-13 campaign. Of course, the biggest query was (and stays) well being, however the roster was more than solid.

They had been nonetheless overlooked for much of final season, until a late charge and a playoff series victory over the fifty seven-win Denver Nuggets in the first spherical catapulted them firmly onto the nationwide stage. Stephen Curry’s report-breaking three-point barrage within the postseason and the play of younger wing players Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes gained much of the attention, and rightly so. But David Lee’s season-ending harm suffered in the playoffs and Andrew Bogut’s 32-video games-played regular season put a damper on the ultimate end result and the outlook heading into this season.

The Warriors lost sixth man Jarrett Jack to Cleveland through free company, however were in a position to transfer the expiring offers of Andris Biedrins, Richard Jefferson, and Brandon Rush to the Utah Jazz (together with 2014 and 2017 first round draft picks) in order to clear sufficient cap house to signal star wing Andre Iguodala to a four-year, $forty eight million pact.

The new Warriors beginning lineup? Stephen Curry, Andre Iguodala, Klay Thompson, David Lee, and Andrew Bogut. That’s fairly strong, to say the least. The bench? Shored up with off-season acquisitions Marreese Speights, Toney Douglas, and Jermaine O’Neal, who join two second-year gamers in Harrison Barnes and Draymond Green.

Not exactly a stellar bench. However it’s straightforward to see what Golden State’s front office is making an attempt to accomplish. Curry and Thompson are sharpshooters. Barnes is a (perceived) “three-and-D” participant. Iguodala has been arguably the most effective one-on-one wing defender within the NBA over the previous few years. And in the paint? A wholesome Bogut, backed-up by an getting older but still very defensively-efficient O’Neal is fairly respectable. Lee fits excellent next to Bogut, as they each complement every others weaknesses.

The Warriors’ defense is definitely quite impressive. They rotate in unison and change seamlessly at almost every event. Bogut and Iguodala are two of the premier (if not the premier) defensive players at their respective positions, and might help cover for the shortcomings of sub-par defenders like Lee or common-at-greatest defenders like Curry and Thompson.

Offensively, the Curry-Lee choose-and-roll/pop game is deadly. It’s choose your poison, with a Curry jumper in all probability being the worst possible poison to choose. The Lee elbow jumper isn’t a ton higher, and he’s decent enough when rolling to the rim as properly. Area the ground with Thompson and a slashing Iguodala, and you’ve got your self a pleasant recipe for a high-octane offense.

However, let’s be picky for a quick moment. The downfall of this workforce could middle around the stagnant nature of the offense sans Curry. If the Warriors are to be thought-about true contenders, there’s nothing fallacious with taking a more in-depth take a look at their greatest flaw.

In fact, there isn’t lots of scoring within the paint or much in the way of publish offense going on with these Warriors. This doesn’t matter when Curry, Thompson, and firm are scorching hot, however there aren’t a complete lot of locations to go for offense when the bench takes the floor.

This predicament led to two consecutive isolation plays for Klay Thompson on this sport in opposition to Utah. The first resulted in a help defender swatting away a feeble shot try, whereas the second progressed within the following style:

The Warriors give Thompson the ball in isolation contained in the three-level on the correct wing. He takes a pair dribbles into the lane, and is straight away quadruple-teamed right in entrance of the rim.

He’s unable to get a shot up and/or draw a foul, and sloppily kicks the ball out to Lee. He can’t catch the ball cleanly, and the play finally ends with a scramble and the ball sailing out of bounds. The ball is circled in the screenshot under. It isn’t significantly near any players.

It must be pointed out that the Warriors’ floor spacing and stability was horrific in this possession, as well as in the preceding possession when Thompson discovered his shot being knocked aside by a assist defender that he by no means saw coming, so it will probably’t be solely blamed on Thompson. But that’s part of the difficulty: the starting lineup performs one way, however the bench has no hope or prayer of enjoying in a similar way. Thus, the bench will struggle to search out it’s way, particularly if they run continual isolation units for Klay Thompson.

Clearly, this was a crude option to show that the Warriors’ second crew lacks a sure…path. The Warriors offense is Stephen Curry, and gamers like Thompson and Barnes play off of him. Without a backup point guard that can be trusted (Toney Douglas has only played in 7 of 12 video games to this point, even with Curry missing 2 video games already), the bench is rudderless.

Clearly, it is a playoff workforce. However rely me as somebody that is still skeptical of this crew for two causes, which are actually one big, looming purpose: the bench, and the history of great injuries to key gamers.

Sure, the bench is okay total. However basic consensus nonetheless overrates Barnes’ skills on both ends of the ground, and Speights and Douglas merely aren’t superb players. O’Neal is cooked on the offensive facet of the ball, and Inexperienced doesn’t present a lot on that end, both. Backup level guard is by far the most important concern, nonetheless, given Curry’s injury historical past and the shortage of depth behind him.

In what was a special treat to Warriors and NBA fans alike, Curry managed to start out 78 of eighty two video games final season. Nonetheless, he’s already missed two games this yr to completely different ailments, playing in 10 of 12 contests. And his ankles seemingly haven’t even been a problem yet. Here’s hoping that they gained’t be, as a result of starting Iguodala at point guard isn’t exactly an answer. (Incidentally, they’re 0-2 to date this 12 months when Iguodala begins at the ’1′ and Barnes slides into the beginning lineup on the ’2′-spot.)

Even ignoring the opportunity of accidents to Curry and the lack of depth at point guard, there isn’t a lot scoring at all on the bench. Barnes isn’t nearly environment friendly enough to be a web optimistic on the court, and until he figures that out, the starters will be run into the bottom by coach Mark Jackson.

Golden State sacrificed depth for a extra high-heavy, star-laden rotation. In the playoffs, it ought to absolutely work and be efficient. Over the course of an eighty two-game season with two fragile, harm-susceptible key starters in Curry and Bogut? A roll of the cube, to be sure.

D’Antoni repeatedly harassed that the Lakers intend to be cautious with Bryant, but also noted that he was “surprised” at how good he appeared in apply Tuesday.

“He hasn’t played since April however he seems pretty good,” D’Antoni stated. “I do not know why that surprises me, nevertheless it does. He was up and down pretty good. A little rusty here and there, but good.”

When requested if he seen any of Bryant’s teammates taking it easy on him, or if he was frightened about pushing Bryant too onerous, D’Antoni laughed and said, “No. They better beat him up while they’ll as a result of after he will get back they will not be capable to.”

The Lakers (5-7) could use Bryant’s scoring potential usually and especially late in games. Fellow shooting guard Jodie Meeks is the team’s main scorer at thirteen.7 factors a recreation, by far the lowest workforce scoring leader in the NBA. The question is how lengthy it should take Bryant to step back into that position once he returns.

“I do not know, we’ll see,” he mentioned. “It is always different while you get out on the practice flooring and when the game actually begins. It stays to be seen. I do not know.

“My duty is to make life easier for my teammates. That is my job and that is [Pau Gasol’s], job to command double-groups, command load defenses where we will get some guys some open looks and high proportion opportunities. If I can step out on the ground and try this, that is an accomplishment.”

Bryant mentioned he’s working to change his sport and compensate for the issues he cannot yet do.

“There’s sure things that I used to do this I can not do now,” Bryant said. “I will not attempt to do them. You have to figure out different ways.

“I simply got to glide and just react. If you have limitations, you must be trustworthy with your self and self-assess. You probably have those limitations, you must determine a strategy to be efficient around these. You possibly can’t be stubborn about it.”

Kobe Bryant

Kobe Bryant mentioned he could see himself returning to sport action by the tip of November.

D’Antoni repeatedly confused he felt Bryant “wants just a few extra steps” and that caution should be exercised in how the Lakers deal with his return. However he also conceded the ultimate choice on when Bryant would return can be made by Bryant and Lakers coach Gary Vitti. D’Antoni may not even be aware about the decision till the final second.

The Lakers play Friday in opposition to Golden State, the crew Bryant was initially injured in opposition to. They host Sacramento on Sunday before leaving on a weeklong journey through Washington, Brooklyn and Detroit. They host Portland on Sunday, Dec. 1, then have nearly per week off earlier than touring to Sacramento on Dec. 6.

“Do you know Kobe? You may guess whose decision that will probably be,” D’Antoni joked.

When requested if he may see Bryant enjoying Friday, D’Antoni stated, “That will shock me.”

When asked if it was unattainable for Bryant to play Friday, D’Antoni said, “That might be, well, nothing is unattainable, but that might shock me.”

And Sunday?

“I do not know when the surprise goes,” D’Antoni stated. “We’ve to urge warning. It will be somewhat bit.”

Iguodala’s late shot lifts Warriors over OKC

Warriors Win Thriller Over Thunder At Buzzer

OAKLAND, Calif. – Silence one second, pandemonium the subsequent.

In 2.3 seconds, Andre Iguodala flipped the script on the Oklahoma Metropolis Thunder by hitting the largest shot of his Golden State Warriors tenure.

Iguodala made a baseline fadeaway as time expired to lift the Warriors to an exciting 116-one hundred fifteen victory over the Thunder on Thursday night, capping a back-and-forth recreation between two teams anticipated to contend for the Western Convention title.

“Those are the moments when your mind is just racing,” mentioned Iguodala, who completed with 14 factors and nine assists. “When Klay (Thompson) threw the pass, I used to be considering I might get to the basket. As soon because the ball hit my hands, my toes have been set simply to catch, flip around and shoot – something I labored on a lot throughout my profession. The state of affairs was there and the whole lot simply labored out.”

“That final timeout, it was pretty darkish in that huddle,” Jackson said. “You lookup and also you say, `How did they climb all the way in which back? How?’ You begin beating yourself up. “He is precisely who we thought he was,” Jackson said. “We’re so lucky to have him on this basketball crew.”

Oklahoma Metropolis outrebounded Golden State 48 to 31, however could not put collectively enough stops to match a powerful offensive effort from its three big stars.

However 19 turnovers cost Oklahoma Metropolis more than something, handing the Warriors extra alternatives to do what they do finest: shoot.

Reserve Draymond Inexperienced gave Golden State a one hundred-86 lead early in the fourth quarter, twisting his method for a layup after taking a pointy pass from Thompson. The Warriors still had to hold off a furious last push from the Thunder to earn by far their biggest win this young season.

“That was an important NBA sport,” Thunder coach Scott Brooks mentioned. “Playoff depth in November. Great crowd, nice environment. They’re a terrific staff. Couldn’t ask for a greater sport. Unfortunately, any person had to lose.”
