NFL Draft analyst blasts ‘prima-donna’ Manziel

A certain draft analyst had not-so-nice things to say about Johnny Manziel. (USATSI)
A sure draft analyst had not-so-good issues to say about Johnny Manziel. (USATSI)

Nolan Nawrocki was an NFL Draft analyst with Pro Football Weekly before the publication closed final yr, and he has developed a status for slamming potential top picks in his player evaluations.

He wrote this about Cam Newton earlier than the 2011 draft: "Very disingenuous – has a faux smile, comes off as very scripted and has a egocentric, me-first make-up. All the time is aware of the place the cameras are and performs to them. Has an infinite ego with a sense of entitlement that regularly invites hassle and makes him imagine he's above the legislation – does not command respect from teammates and always will wrestle to win a locker room."

Then, last 12 months, he slapped Geno Smith with this label: "Not a scholar of the game.. Not committed or focused – marginal work ethic."

So, it is smart that we should always shine a light on some of Nawrocki's newest criticism. In any case..

Ah, Nolan Nawrocki. This is your annual moment.— Alessandro Miglio (@AlexMiglio) February 17, 2014

Writing for NFL.com, here is what Nawrocki needed to write about Johnny Manziel.

"Suspect intangibles – not a leader by instance or identified to inspire by his words. Carries a way of entitlement and prima-donna vanity looking for out the intense lights of Hollywood. Is understood to party an excessive amount of and is drawn to all the trappings of the sport… Has defied the odds and confirmed to be an excellent college-system quarterback, but nonetheless must prove he is prepared to work to be great, modify his hard-partying, Hollywood lifestyle and be capable to inspire his teammates by more than his playmaking ability."

Nawrocki additionally had interesting things to say about South Carolina defensive finish Jadeveon Clowney ("Is still immature and discovering his method – too much of a follower.") and Oregon tight finish Colt Lyerla ("Overly emotional and vulnerable to outbursts following a dysfunctional childhood that offered little route and far confusion related to a divorce.").

So, take all that for what it's price (though he seems to have been fallacious about Newton and Smith). And lest you think I'm attempting to bash Nawrocki – because I'm really not, though I believe the Lyerla criticism actually is not very good – I will embody what Mike Mayock stated final 12 months in regards to the analyst.

"When he puts that on the market, there is not any agenda. He is not trying to bash Cam Newton or Geno Smith. That is the suggestions he's getting from scouts and what he believes based on his tape research. Does that imply it's proper or fallacious? No. Now we have to attenuate that somewhat bit as a result of scouts can say loads of things to get their opinions out there for their very own vested reasons.. [But] I'd bang the table for Nolan Nawrocki."

Jets GM won’t commit to Geno as starter in 2014

While Geno Smith is not guaranteed the job in 2014, Mark Sanchez may not be back. (USATSI)

Coach Rex Ryan led the Jets to eight wins in 2013 and it saved his job. He did it with rookie quarterback Geno Smith, who seemed lots like.. nicely, a rookie quarterback for much of the season. There have been some highs mixed with loads of lows, although Smith confirmed progress and consistency down the stretch.

But in the course of the Jets' finish-of-season press conference Tuesday, basic manager John Idzik wouldn't decide to Smith as the workforce's starter in 2014.

“We're all excited about having Geno as a part of the Jets but we will at all times look to enhance each position in any manner we will and that doesn't change going into 2014,” Idzik stated via the New York Day by day Information. “We'll look at quarterbacks, yes we'll have a look at quarterbacks.”

When asked specifically if Smith would be the starter heading into training camp, Idzik mentioned: “We do not look too far into the longer term with that. Once more, Geno began 16 video games for us. You all witnessed how he did, how he completed sturdy. We're very, very excited and glad that Geno is with us.”

Nonetheless, both Idzik and Ryan remained optimistic about Smith's future with the Jets.

“He's a very resilient young man,” the final supervisor stated. “For him to begin all sixteen games, go through the highs and lows of an NFL season and just to see him develop as a player, see him handle a game, see him be extra efficient in the pocket, his accuracy, threatening with his legs, all of the issues that he did, they had been very constructive.”

Meanwhile, the Jets' franchise quarterback earlier than Smith's arrival, Mark Sanchez, will likely be released this offseason. He missed 2013 with a shoulder damage and he carries a $13.1 million cap hit in 2014, in accordance with Spotrac.com.

“We'll get to that in time," Idzik stated when requested about Sanchez's future with the crew. "He is a Jet. We take into account all our guys Jets till we decide or something occurs that modifications that. So with Mark – I met with him yesterday as effectively – our focus is to get him wholesome, simply as it has been actually the complete season and then we'll take it from there.”

Johnny Manziel Has the “Larry Bird Instinct” Says NFL Scout

johnny-manziel-talking-trash-gets-unsportsmanlike
Johnny Manziel is in the midst of his quest to win a second straight Heisman Trophy.

Johnny Manziel is six months away from being a 1st spherical draft choose.

And now, for the first time, someone has invoked the identify Larry Chicken when speaking about Johnny Manziel. I know, it caught me off guard, too.

A scout broke no new ground talking to Rick Gosselin of the Dallas Morning News about Manziel’s NFL prospects – customary-difficulty Drew Brees and Russell Wilson mentions – but then tossed in a bizarre comparability to the previous Boston Celtics nice who’s in the NBA Hall of Fame.

Manziel has an enormous man’s feet and fingers in a small man’s physique. He has the arm to make all the throws from the pocket and another scout raved about his “Larry Chook instinct” — the power to see everyone and all the pieces on the field.

Don’t overlook Dustin Pedroia’s grittiness.

And David Eckstein’s braveness.

And Aaron Craft’s toughness.

Can the Jets please lose to the Ravens so I can fireplace up the Manziel-to-the-Jets banter? As a result of that’s where we’re headed Monday morning if Geno Smith turns the ball over a number of extra times and is benched for Matt Simms. I still think a number of QBs will go within the High 10, and the Jets, drafting within the 11-20 vary, could be out there for a QB if Geno Smith doesn’t get out of this three-week funk. Hell, he’s been terrible in four of the last 5 games. And don’t give me this, ‘he’s a rookie!’ business as a result of take a look at Glennon in Tampa and the rookie QBs final yr.

If the Jets had a capable QB this yr, they’d be a playoff staff … and that’s not one thing anyone stated in August.

Two defenses fantasy football players must own for the playoffs

Buffalo Bills DT Marcell Dareus
Marcell Dareus will muscle OLs

In the event you’re in stable place to make your fantasy soccer playoffs, it is time to begin planning forward, stashing useful players in your bench.

Or on this case, defenses. Within the Fantasy Sports activities Writers Affiliation Trade Insiders League – a one hundred twenty-workforce, 10-division battle royale – it appears to be like like I’ll make the postseason, a 40-staff, multi-stage survivor collection, so to speak.

I don’t usually carry two DTs except it is a formidably deep league like this one. I’ve completed so now as a result of I need to save a hammer FAAB bid for the postseason, and it helps to get a bounce on any benefit doable.

Ergo, I’ve paired the Houston Texans with the Buffalo Bills. Take a look at their remaining schedules by means of the standard fantasy playoffs.

Check out all those Jacksonville Jaguars duels. Squee.

When picking a DT, I focus a lot much less on factors allowed and as an alternative on the ditch matchups, and for these two golf equipment, I’m optimistic on how their respective defensive traces will overpower their opponents’ front five for many of these contests.

As for the midrange tilts: Geno Smith could torment the Bills’ secondary, however the New York Jets rook should be sacked a bunch within the process. The Atlanta Falcons’ offensive line ought to be weak enough to control, but with Roddy White transferring back into type, there’s extra threat than there was only a few weeks ago. Of course, smart betters usually go against Matt Ryan on the street.

The Indianapolis Colts’ absence of Reggie Wayne hasn’t stopped them in latest weeks, and T.Y. Hilton labored Houston the last time he confronted them. But with Gary Kubiak returning, it’s going to be helpful for Wade Phillips to give attention to simply D once more with out the crew being in second-half chaos.

I dig how the remainder of these matchups play out. Maybe the Denver Broncos will be in position to relaxation their playmakers, together with Peyton Manning (ankle), however I’ll wait on that one.

The Bills are still widely obtainable (sixty five percent of leagues I polled) and even Houston, who’s only unfastened in 22 percent, might still be snagged in a number of video games (for J.J. Watt alone).

Tim’s work has been featured by USA Today/Sports activities Weekly, amongst numerous outlets, and recognized as a finalist within the Fantasy Sports Writers Affiliation awards. The Boston College alum competes in Tout Wars and LABR and has won a number of trade leagues in both baseball and soccer.

Throughout baseball and football season, hear him every Wednesday on 1570 AM WNST in Baltimore. On Thursdays, he visits 106.1 FM WMTI in New Orleans and Sirius XM Fantasy Sports activities Radio, the place he typically crashes different exhibits, as nicely.

NFL Prediction Week 11 Monday Night Preview/Pick- New England vs. Carolina

NFL Free Pick and Prediction for the New England vs Carolina game, Week 11

New England Patriots (7-2) @ Carolina Panthers (6-3) 11/18- 8:30PM EST

Line: CAR -2.5

Over/Under: 46.0

Place your bets here upto $1000 bonus

Monday night, the New England Patriots will go on the road to face a Carolina Panthers team that is riding a five-game win streak and now claims the NFC’s stingiest defense.

With new a new group of receivers under Tom Brady’s helm, the challenge of putting up the numbers of year’s past has been any but fun as his inexperienced targets have dropped 12.2 percent of catchable balls for the league’s worst mark.

Coming off their bye week after routing the Pittsburgh Steelers 55-31, the Patriots (7-2) will now face a Panthers defense yielding only 12.8 points per game and last week beat the 49ers 10-9 on the road to move one-game behind the New Orleans Saints in the NFC South.

They’re one the best defenses in the league,” Brady said. “We have to play really well. I think our execution has to be the best.”

During their five-game win streak, the Panthers have outscored their opponents 140-57 as they go for six in a row… a feat that was accomplished back in 2005.

Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly, who earned conference defensive player of the week honors for an 11-tackle performance as part of a defense that sacked Colin Kaepernick six times will be facing Tom Brady for the first time on Monday night.

Tom Brady is a very cerebral guy, he’s been around a while, he knows where he’s going with the ball, he’s smart, he understands defenses,” Kuechly said. “So we’ve just got to do a good job of playing our job, doing our responsibilities and make sure we’re in the right spot.”

The Panthers defense also has 13 takeaways that tie for the league’s most and allows an average of only 82.0 yards on the ground for the NFL’s second-lowest mark.

On the Panther’s offensive side of the ball, third year quarterback Cam Newton is getting it done in all aspects.

He’s playing well efficiently. He does a good job,” said Panthers coach Bill Belichick about Newton. “He’s obviously a threat with the ball in his hands to run. He can make all the throws. He can put the ball on the sideline.”

With Carolina averaging 120.4 yards rushing per game, the running game is another aspect the Panthers will be looking to take advantage of against the Pats as they are third-worst in the NFL allowing 128.2 yards per contest.

Coach Bilichick believes his team will be well prepared for Newton having already faced Buffalo’s EJ Manuel and the Jets’ Geno Smith.

I think that a lot of the plays that Carolina runs we’ve seen from Buffalo and the Jets,” Belichick said. “The fact that we have seen some of those plays, we’ve worked on the basic blocking schemes and how to fit on them, where everybody needs to be.”

Yet, despite all the numbers pointing to the Panthers on the Monday night, the lines spread has them only (minus) -2.5 point favorites over the Patriots, but as always, be sure to check the odds here at Wonder Punter up until kickoff as they might change.

Defensively, the Patriots are getting it done with 29 sacks, which matches the Panthers. Chandler Jones for the Pats has 8 ½ sacks to lead the team.

Greg Hardy of the Panthers has six sacks to help the defense.

That’s our style of defense,” Hardy said. “We dominate. We take what we want. We do what we want.”

I expect a great game on Monday night, and give the Panthers the edge, however Tom Brady has an impressive 13-4 mark on Monday nights.

Monday Night Football is always pretty cool, especially when you play a really good team on Monday Night Football” he said. It’s a fun night.”

Free NFL Picks and predictions for Week 11

NFL Week 11 is going to be another great week of NFL games with the four big ones in my opinion being Cleveland @ Cincinnati, San Francisco @ New Orleans, Kansas City @ Denver (Sunday night) and New England @ Carolina (Monday night). Here is my quick preview for each game along with the spread and my pick/prediction for each match-up. Remember, you can check the latest lines and place your favorite bet(s) right here through Wonder Punter. Good Luck!

New York Jets (5-4) @ Buffalo Bills (3-7) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: Even

Over/Under: 40.5

With the Jets coming off their bye week, I have to think they will play the better game and expected a little from the Bills to this point. If Geno Smith is on…

PICK: NYJ

Baltimore Ravens (4-5) @ Chicago Bears (5-4) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: CHI -3.0

Over/Under: 45.0

The Ravens are coming off a big home win last Sunday against a Cincinnati team without much offensive production. The Bears will be without Jay Cutler. Still like the Bears in this one being at home.

PICK: Chicago

Cleveland Browns (4-5) @ Cincinnati Bengals (6-4) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: CIN -6.0

Over/Under: 42.0

The Bengals have lost back-to-back games in overtime and lost the last meeting with Cleveland but will go with Cincy in this one to get it done.

PICK: Cincinnati

Washington Redskins (3-6) @ Philadelphia Eagles (5-5) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: PHI -4.5

Over/Under: 53.0

Too much at stake for the Eagles with a chance to get into sole possession of first place with a win and Nick Foles has been great the last two weeks.

PICK: Philadelphia

Detroit Lions (6-3) @ Pittsburgh Steelers (3-6) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: DET -2.5

Over/Under: 47.0

The Steelers have been playing better ball since their ‘rock bottom’ game a few weeks backs, but with a healthy Lions duo of Stafford/Johnson… I like the Lions on the road.

PICK: Detroit
BetOnline
Atlanta Falcons (2-7) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-8) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: EVEN

Over/Under: 43.0

The ‘experts’ have it even.. I kind of agree. With a very disappointing Falcons team this year, can the Bucs win two in a row?

PICK: Atlanta

Arizona Cardinals (5-4) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (1-8) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: ARI -8.5

Over/Under: 41.0

As long as the Cardinals don’t have a ‘let-down’ game, they should win easily.

PICK: Arizona

Oakland Raiders (3-6) @ Houston Texans (2-7) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: HOU -7.0

Over/Under: 41.5

Texans head coach Gary Kubiak is back, Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor is questionable…. seems like a Texans win to me.

PICK: Houston

San Diego Chargers (4-5) @ Miami Dolphins (4-5) 11/17- 4:05PM EST

Line: SD -1.0

Over/Under: 45.5

Always tough for a West Coast team to travel East and play but with the Dolphins in the midst of controversy… can they stay focused?

PICK: San Diego

San Francisco 49ers (6-3) @ New Orleans Saints (7-2) 11/17- 4:25PM EST

Line: NO -3.0

Over/Under: 47.5

I expect a better performance this week from the 49ers, but New Orleans is just a very good team in the Dome. Should be a good. Too much Saints.

PICK: New Orleans

Minnesota Vikings (2-7) @ Seattle Seahawks (9-1) 11/17- 4:25PM EST

Line: SEA -12.0

Over/Under: 45.5

After last week’s solid road performance, I think the Seahawks have shaken off their two-week funk with those close victories.

PICK: Seattle

Kansas City Chiefs (9-0) @ Denver Broncos (8-1) 11/17- 8:30PM EST

Line: DEN -7.5

Over/Under: 49.0

The first of two anticipated meetings is soon upon us.. can the much ‘talked-about’ Kansas City defense do enough to slow down the Broncos?

PICK: Denver

New England Patriots (7-2) @ Carolina Panthers (6-3) 11/18- 8:30PM EST

Line: CAR -2.5

Over/Under: 46.5

Monday night showdown. Tough one for me… Pats 2-2 on the road thus far but are still the Patriots and the Panthers have won five straight. If Carolina has another defensive performance like last week, I like their chances.

PICK: Carolina

There are my predictions and Good luck with your teams and picks!

NFL Prediction Sunday Game Preview/Pick- Saints vs. Jets

NFL Prediction Sunday Game Preview/Pick- Saints vs. Jets

New Orleans Saints (6-1) @ New York Jets (4-4) 11/03- 1:00PM EST

Line: NO -6.5

Over/Under: 45.5

Expected to be one of the better games on Sunday, New Orleans (6-1) defensive coordinator Rob Ryan will put his Saints defense to the test against his brother (and head coach) Rex Ryan and his New York Jets who look to rebound after last weeks road whipping at the hands of the Cincinnati Bengals.

The new and improved Saints defense this year is in large part to defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, who has implemented a 3-4 scheme to apply more pressure on the opposing quarterback and it has shown in the stat sheet where the Saints are a plus-eight in turnover differential, lead the NFL with 3.4 sacks per game and among the best with points allowed (17.1).

A huge improvement whereas the last five seasons (including their Super Bowl year of 2009) they have been second-to-last in yards allowed and gave up a league-record 7,042 last season.

When you have the league’s worst defense a year ago and you have the same players, people think that those players that were playing in that scheme were terrible,” said linebacker Curtis Loften. “So you get a new defensive coordinator that comes in and plays to the strengths of players in this locker room, and guys are playing out there confident, playing fast… like it’s a whole different team.”

Rob Ryan was fired after last season by the Dallas Cowboys, but has his 3-4 defense working this year which will spell trouble for Jets quarterback Geno Smith who has been sacked 28 times this year (second only to Miami’s Ryan Tannehill) and has thrown 13 interceptions… tied for third in the NFL.

Rob Ryan is 0-4 against his brother Rex in matchups with both as either coordinator or head coaches.

It’s a highly motivated group,” said Rob Ryan.

We all have egg on our face from last season and take that seriously. We want to be a hell of a lot better than what people think we are, so we’re just working hard to be a little tiny part of our success.”

After last weeks debacle against the Bengals… coach Ryan decided to skip the film session Monday.

I thought it would be more beneficial just to move on to New Orleans, get a start on them, and that’s what we did,” he said.

It’s no secret that the success of the Jets (4-4) this year is riding on the shoulders of rookie Geno Smith who must perform at more consistent level to give his team a chance to win. 93.7 passer rating in wins and 51.7 in losses.

I’m the type of guy that’s always going to put it behind me because you can’t get it back,” said Smith. “It’s come and gone. As bad as I want to take some of those throws back, to have some of those plays back, you can’t get them back.”

As for Drew Bress, he continues to remain of the league’s elite quarterbacks, leading the NFC with a passer rating of 109.2 and touchdown passes with 19. He currently ranks second in yards (2,290).

However, against the Jets, Brees is 2-2 with three touchdowns and five interceptions.

For New York to have a chance against the Saints, error-free football on both sides of ball must be played. Too much New Orleans I feel.

“When you have the league’s worst defense a year ago and you have the same players, people think that those players that were playing in that scheme were terrible,” said linebacker Curtis Loften.

“It’s a highly motivated group,” said Rob Ryan.

“We all have egg on our face from last season and take that seriously. We want to be a hell of a lot better than what people think we are, so we’re just working hard to be a little tiny part of our success.”

After last weeks debacle against the Bengals… coach Ryan decided to skip the film session Monday.

“I thought it would be more beneficial just to move on to New Orleans, get a start on them, and that’s what we did,” he said.

It’s no secret that the success of the Jets (4-4) this year is riding on the shoulders of rookie Geno Smith who must perform at more consistent level to give his team a chance to win. 93.7 passer rating in wins and 51.7 in losses.

“I’m the type of guy that’s always going to put it behind me because you can’t get it back,” said Smith.

PICK: New Orleans Saints

Dalton throws 5 TDs as Bengals blister Jets

Dalton, Jones Mild Up Jets

CINCINNATI – Marvin Jones usually tosses his receiver gloves into the stands on his method to the locker room, a means of letting followers share in the moment.

This pair – and this second – was all his.

Jones caught four of Andy Dalton’s career-excessive five landing passes on Sunday as the Cincinnati Bengals drubbed the New York Jets forty nine-9, a dominant efficiency that will turns heads across the NFL.

As Jones ran off the sector, he turned down the fans who needed a souvenir glove.

“I’m maintaining those,” mentioned Jones, who had profession highs with eight catches for 122 yards. “I will frame ‘em or no matter. I normally dish them out. Not this sport.”

The second-year receiver and third-yr quarterback went into the membership’s report ebook as its top landing mixture. Jones set a Bengals file for landing receptions, scoring on catches of 9, 6, 17 and 6 yards. He is the primary NFL receiver with 4 touchdown catches in a recreation since Randy Moss and Terrell Owens did it in 2007.

Dalton’s 5 touchdown passes gave him eleven in his final three video games, his best such span. He is the first quarterback to throw for five TDs in opposition to the Jets since Dan Marino in 1988.

“That is the place I wish to be,” said Dalton, who was 19 of 30 for 325 yards in little greater than three quarters. “That is how I want to be taking part in. It’s tough to do.”

The Bengals (6-2) won their fourth in a row and padded their AFC North lead by profiting from New York’s step-slow pass defense and its rookie quarterback, who had his worst day but. Geno Smith threw two interceptions that had been returned for touchdowns before heading to the bench early within the fourth quarter.

It was Cincinnati’s most lopsided victory during coach Marvin Lewis’ eleven seasons. The Bengals are 2½ games forward of second-place Baltimore, which had its bye week.

“It is a assertion,” defensive end Carlos Dunlap mentioned. “This is likely one of the first video games we had been in a position to finish as a result of we jumped on them early. This was only a assertion recreation.”

New York (4-4) couldn’t break its sample of win-one, lose-one. The Jets took their most lopsided loss since a forty five-3 loss to New England in 2010.

“It’s been up-down, up-down all 12 months,” stated Smith, who was 20 of 30 for 159 yards. “That is the way in which it has been up to now. Typically we do it, different instances we don’t. That’s part of growing consistency.”

This one slipped away fast.

The Bengals bought touchdowns on their first two possessions whereas the Jets managed only one net yard in the first quarter – their fewest for 1 / 4 since 2009.

The Bengals figured they could benefit from New York’s man-to-man protection by throwing deep. Dalton’s line gave him loads of time and he was on target more often than not, setting up loads of massive performs.

The largest came from Jones, a fifth-spherical draft choose with a number of velocity. In his breakout game, he showed a very good pair of hands and some nifty strikes, too. His 30-yard catch arrange Dalton’s 4-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jermaine Gresham, who was uncovered at the back of the tip zone.

A.J. Inexperienced additionally had two catches that went for more than 50 yards each as Dalton confirmed he can full the lengthy throw – one in every of his largest deficiencies in his first two seasons.

“I might say that absolutely surprised me,” coach Rex Ryan mentioned of his protection’s collapse. “We got beat in each protection known to man. 5 touchdown passes? I don’t know what number of instances that is occurred in my lifetime. Not fairly often.”

Smith confirmed he’s nonetheless obtained an terrible lot to be taught. With the Jets trailing 28-6 popping out of halftime, Smith made two extra obvious mistakes.

Chris Crocker returned his first go of the second half 32 yards for a touchdown. Early within the fourth quarter, Adam “Pacman” Jones ran another back 60 yards for a score, sidestepping the diving Smith to achieve the top zone.

Smith has had three interceptions returned for touchdowns within the final two games. New England’s Logan Ryan ran one again 79 yards for a score in the course of the Jets’ 30-27 overtime victory last week.

Recreation notes

Bengals MLB

Rey Maualuga

was taken off the field on a cart within the first half after hurting his left knee and apparently struggling a concussion whereas making an attempt to make a tackle. Lewis stated Maualuga wasn’t critically injured… It was the primary time the Bengals returned two interceptions for a touchdown since Dec. sixteen, 1984, against Buffalo… Ryan stated he benched cornerback

Dee Milliner

during the recreation as a result of “he wasn’t getting it accomplished.”

NFL Prediction Sunday Game Preview & Free Pick- Jets vs. Bengals

jets

NFL Prediction Sunday Game Preview & Free Pick- Jets vs. Bengals

New York Jets (4-3) @ Cincinnati Bengals (5-2) 10/21- 4:05PM EST

Line: CIN -6.0

Over/Under: 41.5

With the halfway point of the NFL season upon us, the Cincinnati Bengals (5-2) find themselves with a two-game lead on both the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North and look to build on it as they seek their fourth straight win on Sunday against a Jets team coming off their biggest win of the season 30-27 over the AFC East leading New England Patriots.

For the Bengals, much of their success can be attributed to quarterback Andy Dalton and the kicking heroics of Mike Nugent who has two game-winning field goals in back-to-back weeks against Buffalo and Detroit.

These last couple have come down to the end and we’re finding ways to win the game,” Dalton said. “For us, it’s big. We’re 5-2 now and it sets us up where we want to go.”

Dalton, himself has played a big part of winning the last two games by completing 67.6 percent of his passes for 709 yards with six touchdowns, one INT and a 119.7 passer rating.

The task this week will be tougher for Dalton has he will be facing a Jets defense ranked fourth overall in the NFL, third with 24 sacks second against the run with 77.7 yards per game.

For the Jets (4-3), they know they can only go so far as rookie Geno Smith can take them, but he continues to make strides and impress on a weekly basis.

Just keep making strides,” coach Rex Ryan wants from Smith. “I think you see it on the practice field. I think he’s comfortable with our system.”

I think now it’s become his system.”

Smith realizes consistency is what he needs to improve on if he wants to experience success in the league.

I definitely want to continue to play consistently, and that’s something I have been working extremely hard at,” Smith said. “I’ve been beating myself over it because I know with that consistency at the quarterback (position), it usually leads to success with the team.

That’s something I’m trying to do, something I pride myself in, being a consistent decision-maker.”

With the Bengals lack of a solid running game, expect a heavy-dose of an air attack by Dalton, who has the weapons to make big plays such as Marvin Jones and All-Pro receiver A.J. Green.

Green has 43 receptions with 619 yards to be ranked amongst the league leaders.

New York has dominated the Bengals, winning nine of the past 10 meetings, but Cincinnati hopes it comes down to one-last kick to put Nugent in a position to win it.

I do it in the off-season when I’m just out by myself,” Nugent said. “If you can try to put as much pressure on yourself as you can when you’re practicing, put yourself in the situation, maybe that adds up and makes it easier when it actually happens.”

I like the Bengals in this match-up, but if Geno Smith can play with consistency.. he may be able to pull off another late game magic of his own.

My Prediction & Pick for this game will be,…..

Pick: Cincinnati Bengals

RG III: NFL will see fewer dropback passers

ASHBURN, Va. – When Peyton Manning entered the NFL in 1998, dropback passers have been the preferred fashion of quarterbacks. When Robert Griffin III entered 14 years later, one other fashion grew to become in style.

And Griffin stated he anticipates seeing extra groups finding quarterbacks with his model than Manning’s in the future. That is due to how the professional sport has evolved with the adoption of more methods from the school sport.

GriffinSchool has drifted away from the dropback passer. So that you see much less and less of guys that may’t transfer a little bit on the school ranks, which makes it harder to get these guys in the pros.

- Robert Griffin III

“Faculty has drifted away from the dropback passer,” Griffin said. “So you see much less and less of fellows that may’t transfer a bit of bit on the school ranks, which makes it tougher to get these guys in the professionals. If you happen to take a look at some of the prime college quarterbacks which are coming out now, all of them can move a bit of bit.”

Manning, in fact, has not been identified for his legs all through his profession. But his mind and accuracy have made him one of many NFL’s best-ever quarterbacks. He is made a living out of fast selections, which offset how fast defenses have turn out to be during his career.

Nonetheless, lots of the younger quarterbacks, who at the moment are starting, characteristic a sport more like Griffin’s, with the flexibility to make use of their legs: Russell Wilson, Colin Kaepernick, Geno Smith, Ryan Tannehill, EJ Manuel (who at present is sidelined with a knee injury). Andrew Luck is extra of a dropback passer, however he, too, could run elements of what Griffin does, if the Colts desired, because of his athleticism. However they like him to make throws from the pocket.

“You don’t have to have world-class pace, but as long as you may move a little bit bit and threaten the protection together with your legs, it helps,” Griffin mentioned. “I do not assume that quarterbacks like Peyton are going to be extinct ever, but I believe there is a shift going to guys that can transfer a little bit bit. When you have got 6-[-foot]6, 6-7, 290-pound defensive ends working four.4s, it’s type of laborious to just sit back there in the pocket.”

That is not to say Griffin shouldn’t be a fan of Manning. He is a giant fan. Griffin did not want to get into the “sappy stuff” before playing towards Manning’s Denver Broncos on Sunday.

“He is an amazing quarterback, he is always been great,” Griffin mentioned. “He’s one of those guys, regardless that our kinds are various, he nonetheless paved the way for quarterbacks like myself to have the chance to play in the NFL, so you study from these guys and I’ve learned. I will not let you know what I’ve learned, however I’ve discovered.”

Manning stated he hasn’t been capable of watch numerous Griffin but said the Redskins quarterback is “obviously an impressive participant and a real problem for our defense.”

Jets stun Pats on Folk’s controversial FG in OT

Jets Shock Patriots In OT

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Rex Ryan was fired up. Bill Belichick was ticked off.

Everyone else was, properly, a bit confused.

After a newly instituted rule gave New England a penalty and Nick Folk another chance, he booted a forty two-yard subject objective with 5:07 left in additional time to give the New York Jets a 30-27 victory in opposition to the Patriots on Sunday.

“I was like, ‘You know what? It’s about time we got a break,'” Ryan stated, smiling. “That is really what I was pondering. It just worked out.”

People was extensive left on a 56-yarder, however the miss was negated when New England’s Chris Jones was known as for unsportsmanlike conduct on a 15-yard penalty that by no means had before been called in an NFL sport.

Referee Jerome Boger explained in a pool report that Jones was referred to as for pushing his teammate “into the opponents’ formation.” Umpire Tony Michalek threw his flag “nearly instantaneously as he observed the motion,” Boger said. “We simply enforced it as he referred to as it.”

Belichick disagreed with the applying of the rule.

“You may’t push in the second stage,” Belichick mentioned. “I did not suppose we did that.”

New York (four-3), given new life, ran the ball thrice to arrange Folk’s winner and ship the inexperienced towel-waving fans at MetLife Stadium right into a frenzy.

“It was something that we talked about probably in camp and stuff, and it simply skipped out of my thoughts,” Jones said. “It was my mistake and nobody else’s. I’ve simply bought to man as much as it and repair it next time.”

People thought the Patriots (5-2) might have been known as for 12 men on the sector. So did a couple of different Jets.

“I think I heard the whole stadium saying, ‘Please be on them,'” Ryan mentioned.

Then Folks received it.

“Folks Hero was the man he at all times is, kicking sport-winner for us,” Jets defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson said. “It was an important win throughout the board.”

It also saved People’s consecutive kicks streak intact, giving him sixteen straight to start the season.

An unsportsmanlike penalty on Chris Jones, center, gave the Jets new life in an eventual overtime win in opposition to the Patriots.

“Yeah, we’re not going to talk about that right now,” he stated, smiling.

Geno Smith threw a touchdown move to Jeremy Kerley and ran for another because the Jets topped Tom Brady and the Patriots, who tied it at 27 with 16 seconds left in regulation on Stephen Gostkowski’s 44-yard discipline objective.

New England had defeated New York in six straight regular-season conferences, and noticed its 12-sport profitable streak against AFC East opponents finish.

“Everybody has to take a look at themselves and do a better job,” Brady mentioned, “as a result of what we’re doing now is not ok.”

Brady opened additional time with a 16-yard pass to Rob Gronkowski, making his season debut. But the Jets stopped compelled New England to punt.

Gronkowski nearly made a one-handed grab late in regulation when he had a clear lane into the end zone. Gronkowski, who missed the primary six video games after having offseason surgical procedure on his back and damaged left forearm, had eight catches for 114 yards.

“I’m still mad about that one,” Gronkowski stated.

Brady threw a 17-yard TD pass to Kenbrell Thompkins with 5 seconds left to beat beforehand unbeaten New Orleans final week – leaving defensive coordinator Rob Ryan grimacing on the sideline. This time, Rob’s twin brother walked off the field celebrating a win.

It was the second time in three games Brady was held with out a touchdown go, both losses. Brady completed 22 of forty six for 228 yards and had an interception returned 23 yards for a touchdown by Antonio Allen.

“That was huge,” Smith stated.

Smith, who threw three fourth-quarter interceptions in a Week 2 loss at New England, was 17 of 33 for 233 yards. He had a primary-quarter interception returned seventy nine yards for a landing by rookie Logan Ryan that appeared to set the tone for an ominous afternoon for Smith.

Smith rebounded and gave the Jets a 24-21 lead within the third quarter on an 8-yard run that left the crowd chanting “GEE-NO! GEE-NO!”

“I’m by no means going to crumble,” Smith mentioned. “No matter what occurs. You realize, that’s simply not in me.”

On third-and-14 from the 24, Smith took off left and was met by Marquice Cole, who slammed into the quarterback. But Smith reached out as he was taking place and obtained the primary down.

He once more had all receivers tied up two performs later when he sprinted to his proper, faked out Cole with a nice shake transfer and dived into the nook of the tip zone.

The Jets, in a 21-10 gap, opened the second half by immediately placing strain on Brady and getting a rating out of it. Brady threw for Gronkowski and Allen stepped in front. He did a diving somersault into the end zone simply 33 seconds into the third quarter.

Stevan Ridley had given the Patriots a 21-10 lead with a 17-yard run on which he bounced outside proper sort out and scored untouched. The drive was set up by a 38-yard punt return by Julian Edelman.

Recreation notes

Brandon Bolden

had a 1-yard TD run for the Patriots… Kerley caught eight passes, six of them for first downs on third-down performs… Chris Jones and

Chandler Jones

each had two sacks for the Patriots… Logan Ryan’s INT marked the 34th straight game wherein New England has pressured a turnover, the longest active streak in the NFL.

Rex: Horrible seeing Brady top brother Rob

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – Tom Brady wounded two Ryans with one dagger Sunday.

“It was a horrible day for the Ryan family,” New York Jets coach Rex Ryan mentioned Monday, reflecting on the New England Patriots’ final-second victory over the New Orleans Saints. “It’s a good factor my dad is out of teaching. It was powerful.”

RyanIt was a horrible day for the Ryan household. It’s a good thing my dad is out of coaching. It was powerful… You need every crew in your division to lose, particularly New England.

- Jets coach Rex Ryan

Ryan felt unhealthy for his brother, Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, who appeared like he was going to be sick on the sideline after Brady’s landing pass lifted the Patriots to a 30-27 win. About 250 miles away, watching on TELEVISION in New Jersey, the Jets’ coach felt worse for himself and his staff.

A New England loss would have set up a first-place battle Sunday between the Jets (three-three) and Patriots (5-1) at MetLife Stadium. Now the Jets, coming off a 19-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, are two games behind.

Even once they’re not in the identical stadium, Rex Ryan will get haunted by Brady.

“Heck, yeah, you wish to see them lose, no question,” Ryan stated, adding that his instant response was more animated than that of his brother. “You need every group in your division to lose, particularly New England.”

Ryan stopped wanting calling Sunday’s showdown a must-win. The Old Rex would have hyped it as a playoff-sort game or would have made all of it about him versus Invoice Belichick, but Ryan doesn’t do brash anymore.

“‘Should-win’ is likely to be just a little much right now, even for my deal,” he mentioned, mocking his old ways. “I am infamous for throwing those unhealthy boys out.”

But Ryan acknowledged it is a “enormous” game. There was a particular sense of urgency within the locker room. The Jets have dropped five straight to the Patriots, and they understand a sixth consecutive loss would cripple their probabilities within the AFC East.

“To me, it’s a must,” working again Chris Ivory stated.

The Jets missed an important chance in Week 2, falling 13-10 in a Thursday night game. A pissed off Brady suffered one of many worst statistical days of his profession, however the Jets imploded with three fourth-quarter interceptions by rookie quarterback Geno Smith.

From the Jets’ perspective, there’s unfinished business.

“We should always’ve received that recreation,” Ivory stated.

Rookie defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson said, “We left one hanging.”

The Ryan-coached Jets are three-7 in opposition to the Patriots. The Jets’ last win got here in the 2010 divisional playoffs, arguably the franchise’s most important victory since Super Bowl III in 1969.

Since January 2011, Brady has owned the Jets, successful the close ones (two video games determined by a subject purpose) and successful by blowout (a 30-level win last Thanksgiving).

For most of Sunday night, Ryan took pleasure in seeing his brother’s defense frustrate Brady. The Saints sacked him five times and held him to a 74.7 passer score. Then came the ultimate drive, culminating with Brady’s 17-yard scoring cross to Kenbrell Thompkins with 5 seconds left.

Rob Ryan fumed.

Rex Ryan fumed extra.

“I do not think [his] was as unhealthy as my reaction,” Rex Ryan mentioned.

He took umbrage with critics who second-guessed his brother’s defensive technique on the end of the game. Ryan did not title names, but he was clearly miffed.

After-the-fact criticism “is the one perception you’re going to get from the so-known as specialists that I’ve seen get crushed by [Brady],” he said. “Now they’re going to make that decision? Yeah, right. I might put my probabilities with a Ryan over any person else.”

On Sunday, Ryan will get to defend the family honor.

Steelers throttle Jets for 1st win of season

Steelers Notch First Win Of Season

VIDEO PLAYLIST video

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Pittsburgh Steelers were bored with seeing that dreadful zero in the win column.

Now, they have one victory. They think this could possibly be only the beginning.

Ben Roethlisberger threw a fifty five-yard touchdown go to Emmanuel Sanders, Shaun Suisham kicked 4 field objectives, and the Steelers received their first game by beating the New York Jets 19-6 on Sunday.

“We’re not going to stop,” defensive finish Brett Keisel mentioned. “Clearly, it wasn’t the beginning we wished, however the males on this locker room believe there’s a chance that something great might come out of this if all of us work toward it.”

The Steelers (1-four) have been off to their worst begin since 1968, once they lost their first six video games throughout a season in which they completed 2-11-1.

“Oh, it is big,” Roethlisberger stated.

The victory was additionally the 600th in franchise history, including the postseason, as Pittsburgh grew to become solely the fourth group to reach the milestone and the first from the AFC.

“It is tough because when you’ve that zero, your mind automatically goes to, ‘Let’s get this first win,’ ” safety Ryan Clark said. “Now, you’re just trying to win every recreation and there’s not as a lot pressure on each and every play.”

Pittsburgh was coming off a bye after last playing two weeks in the past in London, a 34-27 loss to Minnesota at Wembley Stadium. The Steelers appeared quite a bit sharper than New York, which had a brief week to arrange after a 30-28 win at Atlanta final Monday night time.

“I think getting away (helped), having a bye and everyone wanting in the mirror, to see what you are able to do to help this crew win,” said Keisel, who left with a rib harm but would not count on to be sidelined.

Geno Smith was intercepted twice by a Steelers protection that entered as the one staff and not using a takeaway. The last came with the Jets (3-three) on the Steelers 12 with just over three minutes left when Smith was hit by Jarvis Jones as he threw. The wobbly cross was picked off by Lawrence Timmons – sealing the win for Pittsburgh.

“I am simply annoyed to lose the sport,” Smith mentioned. “I understand there’s going to be rising pains and things to learn, however we don’t go on the market with that mindset.”

It may very well be a pricey loss for the Jets. Operating back Bilal Powell (shoulder), large receiver Clyde Gates (shoulder), cornerback Kyle Wilson (head) and running back Mike Goodson (knee) all left and did not return. There was no quick phrase on the severity of the accidents.

“They outplayed us,” Jets coach Rex Ryan stated. “We now have to play with extra consistency, obviously. We’re striving for consistency and we’re not fairly there.

“We’ve to get there in a rush.”

Roethlisberger completed 23 of 30 for 264 yards. Antonio Brown had 9 catches for 86 yards and also accomplished a 15-yard cross, and Heath Miller caught six passes for eighty four yards.

Smith, who was turnover-free at Atlanta whereas throwing for 3 touchdowns, was 19 of 34 for 201 yards.

Sanders gave Pittsburgh a sixteen-6 lead just 2:30 into the second half together with his fifty five-yard grab. On a third-and-1 play, he received in entrance of Antonio Cromartie – who was questionable with a hyperextended knee – and was large open as Roethlisberger’s throw arrived. Sanders sprinted the remaining 20 yards untouched earlier than doing a leaping somersault into the tip zone.

“I appeared up and saw Emmanuel operating by himself and sort of had to hesitate for a second because I couldn’t imagine he was so large open,” Roethlisberger said. “The only thought in my head was, `Don’t overthrow him.”

Pittsburgh received its first takeaway of the season – a span of 18-plus quarters – on the Jets’ subsequent possession when Clark picked off Smith’s throw to Konrad Reuland into triple coverage in the pink zone. The rookie later said he was attempting to throw the ball away.

“Now we have the mindset that we will climb out of this hole collectively,” Keisel said. “This was a step in the proper path.”

Game notes

NFL Scores Monday Night Game Recap- Jets vs. Falcons

NFL Scores 2013 8th October Monday night game recap – Jets vs Falcons

All signs pointed to the Falcons winning on Monday and snapping their two game losing streak with the Jets starting a rookie quarterback on the road who has struggled to find his way in the NFL thus far this season.

But, New York Jets’ (3-2)quarterbackGeno Smith looked anything but like a rookie guiding the Jets to a winning drive and beating the slumping Atlanta Falcons (1-4) 30-28 in the final seconds.

Jets-Hero

Geno Smith played his best game of his young career, 16-20, 199 yards and three touchdowns. Most importantly.. no interceptions. Smith had an NFL leading 11 turnovers, including eight interceptions going into Monday night’s game.

Smith orchestrated a two-minute drive after the Falcons took the lead 28-27 with just 1:54 left on the clock.

I’ve been in this situation before time and time again,” Smith said. “My confidence is always sky-high. Nothing can bring me down. I’m just going to continue to work. And we’re putting this one behind us. We’re getting on that bus, we’ll enjoy it for a little bit, then get back to work.”

He’s a rookie,” Atlanta safety William Moore said, “and we make him look like a 10-year veteran.”

The Jet’s Nick Folk hit a 43-yard winning field goal on the final play as time expired.

The Atlanta Falcons who were considered Super Bowl contenders at the beginning of the season are now in a three-game skid.

Atlanta’s red-zone offense failed them once more in the first half when they failed to score on forth-and-goal from the one yard line. Time expired and the Falcons walked into the locker room at half to a chorus of boos.

The Atlanta Falcons who are suffering their longest losing streak since the 2007 season now head into a bye week scratching their heads without answers.

Falcon quarterback Matt Ryan ended the night, 36 of 45, 319 yards passing, two touchdowns and no interceptions. For more recaps and NFL Scores please select from the options above this page
