Wisconsin throttles Baylor, gains West final

Wisconsin Rolls Previous Baylor

ANAHEIM, Calif. – Ben Brust and his Wisconsin teammates obtained oodles of open pictures while they sliced and diced Baylor's vaunted zone defense. When the Bears had the ball, 7-foot Frank Kaminsky always appeared to be right in their way.

Brust, Kaminsky and their Badgers understand they dominated Baylor in a 69-52 victory Thursday evening because of a coach who at all times places them in the correct spots.

Bo Ryan has never been to college basketball's closing weekend, however the Badgers are thrilled to put him on the brink.

"That might be a very special thing to do, however we also know that he's not going to let us look too far ahead," said Brust, who scored 14 points. "When that point comes, we'll deal with it. I would definitely like to do this for him."

Kaminsky scored 19 points and blocked six shots whereas Wisconsin romped into the West Regional remaining, reaching the final eight for the third time in school history.

Brust hit three of the six three-pointers from the second-seeded Badgers (29-7), who jumped to a 14-point lead within the first half and never let up on the overmatched Bears (26-12).

Kaminsky and his disciplined teammates shredded the Baylor zone that performed so well within the first two games. Wisconsin additionally methodically shut down Baylor's gifted offense while moving into its second regional last in 13 years under Ryan, who has seen nearly every part except the Last Four in a 700-win coaching profession.

"I'd be honored to be part of that," Kaminsky mentioned.

Wisconsin advanced to the regional remaining Saturday in opposition to prime-seeded Arizona, which held off San Diego State 70-64 within the late sport at Honda Middle. The Badgers haven't been to the Last 4 since retired coach Dick Bennett obtained them there in 2000.

The Badgers superior by countering every little thing the Bears do nicely. Wisconsin wrecked Baylor's zone, negated their 3-level capturing acumen with perimeter defense, stored the tempo on the Badgers' preferred velocity and even held a 39-33 rebounding edge on Baylor, one of many nation's prime rebounding teams.

Ryan placed on a bit of a coaching clinic, but that's nothing new. The Wisconsin folk hero has led the Badgers to an NCAA match berths in every of his thirteen seasons, but solely obtained this near the Remaining 4 in 2005.

"We get 40 extra minutes, and I'm awfully happy with them," Ryan mentioned.

Kaminsky added one other outstanding performance to his junior season with the Badgers, racking up 10 points and 4 blocked pictures whereas Wisconsin took a 29-16 lead into halftime. Wisconsin held Baylor to a season-low in first-half points.

Cory Jefferson scored 15 points for the sixth-seeded Bears in their third Candy 16 trip in 5 years.

Isaiah Austin and Kenny Chery scored 12 points apiece for Baylor.

The Bears needed a late rally simply to match their lowest-scoring performance of the season in the ultimate seconds.

"Wisconsin actually performed an awesome sport, and we did a very poor job in making things powerful," mentioned Baylor coach Scott Drew, who nonetheless led his group to a strong finish after its 2-eight start to Huge 12 play. "They're extraordinarily arduous to strain and rattle… Once we acquired behind, we needed to do some things we wished we didn't need to do."

Three lower-bowl sections of the Anaheim Ducks' residence arena had been packed with red-clad Badgers followers, who usually prove in droves for his or her college's journeys to Southern California, together with three straight current journeys to the Rose Bowl.

That they had loads of time to rejoice while their Badgers shortly sapped all of the drama out of those schools' first meeting.

Baylor's flexible zone defense induced numerous problems for Nebraska and Creighton within the Bears' victories final week. With a few days to arrange, Ryan clearly figured out exactly methods to assault it.

The Badgers acquired multiple open seems on practically every possession in the first half, moving the ball across the perimeter for open three-level attempts or getting it down low to Kaminsky, who scored eight of Wisconsin's first 10 points. Brust hit two 3-pointers within the first half, and only a few open misses prevented Wisconsin from blowing it open early.

On the other end, the Bears had little of the poise they confirmed in their first two video games. Baylor missed 12 of its first 15 shots and fell behind by 14 late within the half.

Baylor finally deserted the zone early within the second half, but Traevon Jackson hit a 3-pointer for Wisconsin on the following possession. The Bears confirmed their athleticism and talent with a number of one-man drives to the hoop in the second half, however the Badgers calmly stuck to their plan in a blowout win.

Brandon Bolden gets start for Pats, gains 100 yards, puts himself back in your fantasy plans

Brandon Bolden, chain-mover (USAT Pictures)

First of all, take a fast look at the Week 3 workload distribution in New England’s backfield:

Steven Ridley – 26 snaps, 12 touches, forty three yards
Brandon Bolden – 26 snaps, 8 touches, 100 yards
LeGarrette Blount – 24 snaps, 14 touches, sixty five yards

That, buddies, is a committee. If you view the Pats running again situation some other approach, then you’re kinda delusional. Bolden obtained the start on Sunday, Ridley saw motion all through, and Blount served as the fourth quarter nearer. Those three backs mixed to gain over 200 scrimmage yards against Tampa, so you may’t say the three-headed method wasn’t efficient.

Head coach Invoice Belichick supplied his model of praise in his postgame comments:

“I assumed all our backs ran nicely,” Invoice Belichick mentioned. “Brandon did a very good job for us but Stevan and LeGarrette, they all had some good runs, some key runs for us. It’s a tricky defense to run the ball against, but we had been able to chip away and a minimum of preserve them honest and keep out of a whole lot of lengthy-yardage situations and that helped us.”

Bolden was making his 2013 debut, having missed the opening weeks with a knee concern. He caught a display screen go on New England’s first play from scrimmage, gaining 12 yards. On the staff’s second play, he lined up outdoors in a five-receiver set. On the next play, he returned to the backfield.

So it would be correct to say that Bolden was deployed in quite a lot of ways, in an almost Vereen-like method. He finished his day with three carries for 51 yards towards the Bucs, including five catches for forty nine. He did not essentially have an error-free afternoon, but it was nonetheless a nice performance — enough to earn him future touches, certainly.

Bolden averaged four.9 yards per keep on fifty six makes an attempt final season, so we’re talking about a player with a decent on-subject historical past, tied to a productive offense. He’s unowned in 98 % of Yahoo leagues as of this writing, too. On the very least, he appears more likely to make a PPR splash within the weeks forward. Ridley fumbled his way into this job-share, and Bolden will clearly benefit.

Pinnacle Gains Approval In Missouri For Ameristar Casinos Purchase

Pinnacle Entertainment has been negotiating a buyout of fellow US gaming company, Ameristars Casinos Inc., and on Wednesday Pinnacle received good news from Missouri gaming regulators. The gaming commission approved the purchase, opening the door for the deal to be complete.

The gaming industry in the US has been fast-changing in recent years, with dozens of states authorizing new casinos. Pinnacle initially inquired earlier this year into buying Ameristar, and the purchase price of $2.8 billion was agreed upon by both parties.

One of the major hurdles in the process was the Federal Trade Commission, which expressed concern over the areas of the country where Pinnacle would be acquiring Ameristar Casinos. Missouri and Louisiana were the two major markets of concern, with Pinnacle and Ameristar both owning several casinos in these states.

The lack of future competition should all the casinos be run by Pinnacle was a concern, and to alleviate any conflict, Pinnacle agreed to sell one casino of their own, Lumiere Place, and another two other hotels in St. Louis. Additionally, Pinnacle agreed to sell an Ameristar casino resort in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

The approval of the Missouri Gaming Commission on Wednesday gave hope that the FTC will ultimately approve the sale of Ameristar Casinos, Inc.

As states are starting to explore the option of regulated online gambling, several gaming companies, including Pinnacle, have started to either form partnerships, or acquire, other casino companies, with the hope of someday in the near future operating online casinos.
