The Red Sox would possibly discover it difficult to exchange Saltalamacchia if he leaves via free agency. (USATSI)

At the least the Twins, Rockies and possibly Blue Jays have been identified as among the many groups that may very well be threats to steal free agent starting catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia from the incumbent Crimson Sox.

The Rangers appear to be one other chance to observers, but one person related with the Rangers suggested a return for Saltalamacchia wasn’t too seemingly in the meanwhile. They’ve recommended they’re going with Geovany Soto as their catcher, although they’ve no less than looked at different free-agent catchers.

The Red Sox made an early two-12 months supply for Saltalamacchia but they confirmed strong curiosity in free-agent catchers Carlos Ruiz and Brian McCann, but it surely is not recognized how anxious they’re to transcend two years. Boston made several key free-agent scores final winter with brief-time period deals, and the organization has some decent catching prospects on the way in which, especially Christian Vazquez and Blake Swihart.

The champion Crimson Sox need a catcher, and free-agent options are dwindling, with veterans A.J. Pierzynski and Dioner Navarro the following best choices on the board.

The Twins had to transfer Joe Mauer to first base, the Rockies are contemplating transferring Wilin Rosario to the outfield and the Blue Jays are presumably concerned concerning the offensive manufacturing from J.P. Arencibia (.227 on-base percentage last year).

Minnesota may very well be the biggest menace to the Red Sox, because the Twins have been linked so much to Salty, who batted273 final yr with 14 house runs, sixty five RBI and a profession-high804 OPS in serving to the Red Sox win the 2013 World Sequence. The Twins’ curiosity was first reported by Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe. The Rockies and Jays have checked in, however the extent of their curiosity is unsure.

The White Sox are additionally surveying the catching market but additionally aren’t viewed as the most certainly of the suits. The hometown Marlins (he is from West Palm Seaside) also are searching for catching help but he could also be out of their worth range.

Knicks’ Woodson fined $25K for comments

GREENBURGH, N.Y. – New York Knicks coach Mike Woodson has been fined $25,000 for public criticism of officials, the NBA said Friday.

In an interview Thursday on ESPN New York 98.7 FM’s “The Stephen A. Smith and Ryan Ruocco Show,” Woodson said that Carmelo Anthony isn’t getting “superstar” calls.

“Absolutely. And I’m not going to shy away from that, either. I think Melo gets hit more than ever,” Woodson said in his weekly radio spot.

“I’ve been at this thing 30 years, and sometimes I’m starting to wonder what’s a foul and what’s not a foul.”

Woodson specifically mentioned a play late in the Knicks’ overtime loss to the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday in which he felt Anthony was fouled. No call was made.

“The offense normally has the advantage when you’re making plays at the rim,” Woodson said. “… Melo draws a lot of contact, but he comes up empty a lot of times as well.”

Woodson also hinted Thursday that Anthony wasn’t being treated the same way by referees as other star players, such as LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant.

“They can’t see everything and I understand that, and sometimes they miss calls,” Woodson said of referees. “Yeah, I thought he got bumped on [a play late in overtime Wednesday], but hell, he didn’t get the call, so we have to move on.”

Anthony said he was “done talking” about referees after Wednesday’s loss, the fourth straight for the Knicks (3-8). But he was vocal about his displeasure with the officiating in a loss to the Houston Rockets earlier this month.

“You look at that and you see the way that some guys get their calls; me, I got to get cut, you’ve got to see blood for me to get a call down there,” Anthony said Nov. 14.

That night Anthony had 11 free throw attempts. He attempted 30 shots from the field. Houston’s James Harden attempted 18 free throws and 17 shots from the field.

“That’s where the frustration comes in,” Anthony said then.

For what it’s worth, Anthony is tied for fifth with the Sacramento Kings’ DeMarcus Cousins in free throw attempts per game at 7.5. Durant leads the league with 12.8 attempts per game.

Of course, that statistic fails to account for how many shots a player takes per game. It also doesn’t account for whether a player is taking open perimeter shots or contested shots near the basket.

In the Knicks’ offense, Anthony frequently has the ball with his back to the basket. His post touches have increased since center Tyson Chandler went down with an injury Nov. 5, so opportunities to draw fouls have also increased.

But only 13 percent of Anthony’s plays have ended in free throw attempts this season. For comparison’s sake, Houston’s Dwight Howard leads the NBA in percentage of plays that end in a free throw (31.5), according to ESPN Stats & Information.

Taco Bell ends tradition of giving Michigan State basketball fans free tacos

Tragic information out of Michigan. Based on, a longstanding and fashionable promotion that supplied free tacos to Michigan State basketball followers each time the Spartans rating 70 or extra factors has not been renewed this season:

Various Taco Bell places in and around East Lansing had long provided a free taco to anyone who proved by means of ticket stub they’d attended an MSU basketball wherein the Spartans scored not less than 70 points. But the quick food large ended that point-honored promotion this yr.

“The sponsorship agreement with them ran out,” MSU associate athletic director Paul Schager said, “and they decided to not renew it, though it was a fan-favorite and something very constructive and very popular….

Schager said the promotion had been in place since 2004. He stated it was an excellent partnership for both events, however Taco Bell’s company officers made the decision to end the deal.

Taco Bell officials didn’t return’s call, both as a result of there’s no affordable justification for denying people free tacos after their workforce puts up 70 factors or because they’re busy crafting a new configuration of Taco Bell substances so superb it’s going to make everybody overlook all about this latest batch of unhealthy press.

Still, it solely takes one rogue franchisee to take a stand towards the stooges that brought this wonderful benevolence to a halt and start distributing free tacos again. Since Crunchy Tacos cost customers less than a dollar, a single taco can’t precisely be a huge investment to get people into the store and develop the kind of goodwill that can only include free tacos.

And isn’t that why you got into this enterprise in the first place, East Lansing-area Taco Bell house owners? It was about the tacos. Let the suckers over in regular Lansing worry about appeasing the fits. East Lansing is for two things: Michigan State Spartans basketball and the free-taco glee it begets. Let’s preserve it that method.

Agent says Jay Z ‘intimately involved’ in Cano talks

Cano leaves Boras | Jay Z takes swipe at Boras | Jay Z investigated by MLBPA

The highest free agent out there in this offseason’s free agency spree is superstar second baseman Robinson Cano. There’s some added drama to the Cano negotiations, too, since he dumped uber-agent Scott Boras in favor of Roc Nation Sports activities, a new sports activities company run by rap mogul Jay Z.

A person named Brodie Van Wagenen is the man primarily engaged on the Cano dealings for Roc Nation Sports, although Jay Z is far from a figurehead.

“What I believe persons are starting to acknowledge as nicely is that players of this magnitude don’t come alongside fairly often,” Van Wagenen mentioned. “And the opportunity to amass them is limited. And whenever you need to try to purchase impact, middle-of-the-order, dynamic gamers, uncommon expertise, you possibly can only do it in a couple of areas.”

Cano, 31, hit314/.383/.516 with 41 doubles, 27 homers and 107 RBI final season for the Yankees. He’s completed in the high six of AL MVP voting in each of the previous four seasons.

NFL Prediction Week 11 Thursday Night Preview & free Pick- Colts vs. Titans

NFL Free Pick for the Colts vs Titans game

Indianapolis Colts (6-3) @ Tennessee Titans (4-5) 11/14- 8:25PM EST

Line: IND -3.0

Over/Under: 42.0

Two football teams coming off bad losses this past Sunday will be looking to get back on track this Thursday night in an AFC South showdown, but the bigger challenge may be for the Tennessee Titans who lost quarterback Jake Locker for the season and will rely on backup Ryan Fitzpatrick to keep them from losing four straight.

Jake Locker was lost for the season when he injured his right foot in the second quarter of a 29-27 loss to previously winless Jacksonville Jaguars. Locker, who has been limited to 18 career starts, could need surgery.

Fitzpatrick will now try to get the Titans (4-5) back to winning after what seemed like a promising start to the season before losing Jake Locker to a previous injury as the Titans sit two games behind the division leading Colts (6-3) in the AFC South.

We’re just concentrating on these seven weeks,” coach Mike Munchack said. “That’s all we’re concerned about. Next year is next year (with Locker). Right now we just got to go forward and try to win a game.”

The Titans have dropped eight of nine to the Colts and will have to face them twice in three weeks. Their last win was Oct. 30, 2011.

Unfortunately for the Titans, Fitzpatrick went 0-2 as a starter for the injured Locker by losing to Kansas City and Seattle completing 54.3 percent of his passes with a touchdown and four interceptions. In relief for Locker on Sunday, he performed much better going 22 of 33 for 264 yards with two touchdowns, no interceptions and ran for a touchdown as well, in the loss.

When it’s your turn to step up, you’ve got to step up, and that’s where we’re at,” said tight end Delanie Walker.

He’s going to be the starting quarterback from now on because Jake is out for the year, so Ryan has no choice but to play (well). I feel like he did a great job against the Jaguars. This is his opportunity to be the man now.”

With Fitzpatrick calling the signals now, he will need all the help he can get in the rushing game which will open it up for him… which means running back Chris Johnson will have to step up as well, where on Sunday’s loss he gained just 30 yards on 12 carries.

For the Indianapolis Colts, a blowout 38-8 loss to the Rams at home ruined every ones picks as Indianapolis committed a season-high five turnovers on Sunday’s ugly loss. Andrew Luck had three passes picked off to match the total for his first eight games combined and was sacked three more times.

I think all we want is to never play like that again,” tight end Colby Fleener said. “The feeling after that game was just disgust.”

If the Colts want to find success against the Titans, they too will have to improve upon their running game where all they were able to muster against the Rams was 18 yards.

Tennessee ranks 21st in the league against the run allowing 114.9 yards per game.

We realize how important the important the run game is to our success,” Luck said. “We’ll improve, and we’re looking forward to the Titans.”

Despite the Colt’s woes from Sunday’s game, they still go into Thursday’s match-up favored with a line spread of (minus) -3.0 as they look to bounce back in a big way, but be sure to check the latest betting lines up until kickoff and place your bet.

Certainly we’re not going to going to bury our head in the sand on this past game,” Colts coach Chuck Pagano said. “We’ll address the issues like we always address them. We know there are things that need to be fixed and we’ll go to work on fixing those things.”

Expect the Colts to be a lot better on both sides of the ball on Thursday and see them being able to cover as the pressure will be on Fitzpatrick to led the Titans the rest of the way.

NCAA college football free Picks LSU vs Alabama 11th November

#13 LSU Tigers (7-2)@ #1 Alabama Crimson Tide (8-0) 11/09- 8:00PM EST

Line: ALA -12.5

Over/Under: 55.0

What else would we expect from the Southeastern Conference but another “must-see” game that may become another SEC “classic” between No.13 LSU as they travel into Tuscaloosa, AL to try to knock off No.1 Alabama in a Saturday night marquee match-up.

With the Crimson Tide (8-0, 5-0) in the drivers seat once again in the BCS standings and favored for their third-straight consecutive national championship, the oddsmakers have them defeating the Tigers (7-2, 3-2) and staying ahead of the other four unbeaten teams as they continue to push forward for another BCS title shot in the Rose Bowl come January.

The Tide know all they have to do is take care of business and not worry about the other unbeaten teams.

Probably not, but I’m not thinking about everybody else,” said Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron. “I could care less about what their record is. It’s no disrespect to them. They’re all having great seasons, but we’re worried about us and what we need to do to take care of business.”

If Alabama can get past an LSU Tigers team, they won’t be challenged again until their final season-finale against No. 7 Auburn.

This is not the kind of game that anybody could not get excited about playing in,” Bama coach Nick Saban said.

The Tigers themselves could very well have been in championship talks if it not weren’t for a pair of three-point road losses to then-No. 9 Georgia and Mississippi.

I can tell you that our guys are in college football for these kind of games,” LSU coach Les Miles said. “We look forward to playing in them. It’s a great opportunity for all. Any time you line up against Alabama, there’s a rivalry. There’s national prestige.

I think the greatest compliment that we can pay an opponent is our best efforts, and certainly Alabama will get that.”

LSU has won two of the last three regular-season meetings and all three have been decided by four points or less.

Last years game won by the Tide 21-17 was decided by T.J. Yeldon’s 28 yard touchdown pass from McCarron with 51 seconds remaining.

Last year’s game hurt,” LSU defensive tackle Ego Ferguson said. “We played a great game until the last minute. Now, I’m just getting ready for this game. Every year we play, it’s a huge game, a rivalry game. Everybody is doubting us. I just want to prove them wrong. We play better when everybody’s against us.

This is a chance to showcase our talent. It’s like an Ali-Foreman fight every time we play. The intensity level is like no other game.”

The last few years both teams have played in some dramatic finishes.. last year’s game, and in 2011 the “Game of the Century” (1 versus 2) came down to kickers with LSU winning in overtime 9-6. In 2010, LSU won 24-21.

Great defense on both sides, people making plays left and right, Alabama linebacker C.J. Mosely said.

This Saturday night, it’s all the line once more and a perfect performance may be needed to come out victorious.

Coach always tells u to go out and play our best game,” Alabama receiver Kevin Norwood said. “We don’t look for pretty good, we look for the best that we can play.”

Defensive battles have been the status quo between these two teams in recent years, but the betting lines tell a different story for this year’s game prediction which you can find up to the minute here at Wonder Punter.

Get ready for another great game!

Yankees have eyes on FAs Ellsbury, Garza, Drew

Could Matt Garza be wearing pinstripes next season? (USATSI)
Could Matt Garza be wearing pinstripes next season? (USATSI)

The Yankees have been discussing several big-name free agents – including new ones Jacoby Ellsbury, Matt Garza and Stephen Drew – as they weigh the best way to remake their crew.

The Yankees are still aiming to chop their payroll from $230 million to under $189 million, however with several free agents and retirees of their very own, they have many choices. In addition they like Carlos Beltran, Shin-Soo Choo, Brian McCann and Masahiro Tanaka, as beforehand reported.

They remain the favourite to re-sign Robinson Cano, the highest free agent available on the market, however a spot of about $a hundred and fifty million existed between the edges, with Cano on the lookout for $310 million and the Yankees willing to supply $one hundred sixty million or so up to now.

The Yankees’ flexibility comes from all their free brokers and retirees, including Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte, Hiroki Kuroda, Curtis Granderson, Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain and naturally Cano. That represents about $eighty million in 2012 contracts.

The interest in Drew is intriguing in that iconic shortstop Derek Jeter is predicted to be again. Jeter has days to resolve whether or not to select up his possibility for $9.5 million, with nothing mentioned to indicate but that he may not achieve this following his harm-plagued 12 months.

NBA Game Recap- Lakers Bench Blowout Clippers

Los Angeles Clippers- 103

Los Angeles Lakers- 116

For one night anyway, the “Hallway Rivalry” between the Clippers and Lakers became a laugher when the Lakers bench punished the Clipper starters in the fourth quarter to the tune of 41 points and 76 total points on a night from the reserves as the Lakers rolled to a 116-103 ‘unexpected’ win.

Not many people expected this young Kobe-less Lakers team to show up on opening night and beat a Clippers ball club many picked to contend for a Western Conference championship.

This is not the same Lakers team of 2012-13… this team is younger, quicker, more athletic, and playing with energy. No expectations… just play the game.

It’s not a bad thing to be the underdog sometimes,” said Lakers’ Jodie Meeks. “No expectations. We go out there and play hard. What’s the worst that can happen? We lose, and people say we’re no good?”

Not one Laker starter played in the fourth quarter as coach Mike D’Antoni elected to stay with his bench and they responded to the tune of 41 points scored to the Clippers 24.

Mike (D’Antoni) did a great thing: He didn’t bring his starters back in.” Rivers said. “There was a point where I was thinking: ‘Please bring them back in.”

Xavier Henry led all players with 22-points (12 in the fourth quarter).

We’re a deep team, and people don’t think we’re that good,” Henry said. “That always fuels us. People are saying we’re going to finish 12th or whatever, but we have a great group of guys who go out there and play hard. We’re young, we’re athletic. We go after it.”

All the talk coming in to the game was about the Clippers finally being “the team” in L.A. New coach in Doc Rivers, new faces, new attitude, new identity, high expectations. But, it was the Lakers who were not quite ready to relinquish the title of “L.A.’s Team.”

We were not ready tonight,” said Rivers. “(The Lakers) have heard for probably the last two months how good (the Clippers) were going to be… so you knew that they were going to play like this was the world championship—with that type of energy. And I thought we never matched it. Everything they did was harder than us and more physical than us. They destroyed us on the glass and destroyed us in turnovers. So it was a good lesson for us.”

The Clippers swept the Lakers last season winning all four.

You’ve got to give it to them. They outplayed us,” Griffin said. “They did a good job. They were ready. They turned up the heat in the fourth quarter and didn’t respond.”

Oh, man, it seemed like it happened so fast,” Clippers’ Chris Paul said. “Those guys executed their game plan, and when you’re missing somebody like Kobe, you feed off that energy”

For tonight at least and ‘til next time… the Lakers own the bragging rights.

Gonzalez gets rumors, but not seeking trade

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – Tony Gonzalez understands the logic behind all of the trade speak.

The Atlanta Falcons tight end realizes plenty of folks need to see him stroll away from the NFL wearing his first Tremendous Bowl ring. That would clarify the 37-12 months-old’s willingness to address trade rumors, even when the subject has turn out to be a recurring distraction for the 2-5 Falcons.

Tony GonzalezTony Gonzalez says he is not asking to say goodbye to the Atlanta Falcons because the trade deadline nears.

“I completely understand it,” Gonzalez told late Monday night. “All people out there needs to know that I am not naive to it. I see it, too. That is the last [nine] weeks of my profession. And right now, issues are wanting.. you by no means know.

“However, like I mentioned, I really like my guys on this staff an excessive amount of to go ask for a trade. It would be one thing that would come from them the place they stated, ‘Hey, it is smart as a result of we might get something good for you and ship you to a workforce that’s a contender.’ So I perceive the thought course of behind that.”

Gonzalez even referenced a comment made by one tv analyst.

“When Jimmy Johnson says that it will be respectful of [the Falcons], I see that,” Gonzalez mentioned about Johnson, the Fox analyst who mentioned the Falcons should sit down with Gonzalez and ask him whether he wants to play for a contender. “And like I stated, if that is one thing they wanted to do and so they requested me, then, yeah, I would take heed to them, after all. Yes, I’d sit down with them.

“You have at all times got to take heed to them in something. I don’t care if you happen to’re not open to it or [are], you still hear and see what’s up.”

The Falcons have made it clear they haven’t any intentions of trading Gonzalez. Coach Mike Smith known as the concept “preposterous” whereas general manager Thomas Dimitroff absolutely supported his coach’s stance. The need not to commerce Gonzalez goes all the way to the top of the group.

But what if a crew such because the undefeated Chiefs, who’ve made it clear they would take Gonzalez back with opened arms, makes an offer to get Gonzalez out of Atlanta earlier than Tuesday’s commerce deadline?

“We’ll know by [4] o’clock tomorrow,” Gonzalez mentioned. “But, like I stated, I’m not going to be the one to go asking for a trade. It must come from them.”

Gonzalez remains to be owed $three.7 million this season. The Falcons acquired him in 2010 from the Chiefs in exchange for a second-round draft choose. That pick ended up being Javier Arenas, now a backup cornerback and kick returner for the Arizona Cardinals.

Raiders to handle DC’s gestures ‘in-house’

Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis might understand his defensive coordinator’s thought process, nevertheless it doesn’t mean he endorses what Jason Tarver was caught doing in his staff’s eventual 21-18 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. And Tarver himself issued a mea culpa for his actions.

Jason TarverRaiders defensive coordinator Jason Tarver apologized Monday for his gestures directed towards officers in Sunday’s recreation.

Tarver flipped a middle finger, on separate events, at the officials after a private foul was known as on cornerback Mike Jenkins for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell with eight:forty eight left in the third quarter.

“It was simply an emotional outburst by a coach within the heat of the sport,” Davis informed “We don’t condone those actions and we’ll deal with it in-house.”

Tarver, in the meantime, issued his apology in an announcement Monday afternoon.

“I apologize for my motion on the sideline of yesterday’s game,” Tarver mentioned within the release. “It was within the warmth of the second, and I regret drawing attention away from the Raiders gamers and what they achieved.”

The flag, by the best way, was picked up and no penalty was levied in spite of everything.

The Raiders, not the NFL, are anticipated to impose self-discipline on Tarver, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

In 2010, Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Chuck Cecil was hit with a $40,000 fantastic for flipping off the refs when he disagreed with a penalty towards his staff.

Raiders coach Dennis Allen was requested in his weekly information convention about Tarver’s actions and apology.

“I do not know if it is a kind of stuff you just say, ‘Let’s forget about it,'” Allen stated.

“Pay attention, he’s made his assertion about what’s happened. I think the only factor I’ll say is I feel he is carried out an excellent job with this protection. I think he is a fiery and emotional man and I believe our gamers have actually taken to that, and I believe they’ve embraced that kind of perspective and he has the defense enjoying at a high stage proper now.”
