NCAA College Football Top 25 standings

With 12 full weeks of College Football in the books, here is the latest BCS Top 25 rankings going into week 13. The top 10 for the most part remains about the same with the exception of teams moving up and previous No. 4 Stanford falling five spots to No. 9 with their loss to USC on Saturday night and Oklahoma State earning a top 10 spot.

Three new teams… USC, Ole Miss and Minnesota enter the Top 25 as the college football season begins to wind down and teams continue to jockey for a BCS major bowl-bid which is granted to the top 16 teams.

NCAA College Football Recap- #3 Florida State Spanks #7 Miami

miami

#7 Miami Hurricanes- 14

#3 Florida St. Seminoles- 41

What was hyped as another potential “ACC Classic” battle between No. 3 Florida State and No. 7 Miami became a one-sided affair in the second half as the Seminoles blew out the Canes 41-14 to cement their position for a possible BCS Championship run.

The Seminoles (8-0, 6-0) showed their defensive might on the Canes in the second half by shutting them out and scoring 20 unanswered points to remain undefeated in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Heisman Trophy candidate Jameis Winston went 21/29 for 325 yards, one touchdown, but threw two interceptions to keep the Hurricanes (7-1, 3-1) in the game.

It’s a team that is understanding how to compete in big games and is learning to do it different ways,” Florida State Jimbo Fisher said. “We were very excited early and had to keep our emotions in check.

The second half we came out and were very physical and were able to run the football and take control. The defense was dominant. I’m just proud of the way our guys competed.

The Seminoles outgained Miami 517-275.

Just like baseball, sometimes you go out there and strike out,” said Winston. “Then you’ve got to come back and bounce back and my team really helped me through it.

I told the guys. No more turnovers and we’re going to go out there and win this game.”

We played the No. 7 team in the country and we won by 27,” Fisher said. “That’s a very good football team. “We’re just going to keep playing well and let people judge. This is a heck of a football team here.”

Miami coach Al Golden said this about the loss…

Give them credit. They made all the plays. We did not. It’s a high powered offense. They executed better than we did.”

To make matters worse.. Miami star running back Duke Johnson suffered a broken leg and is lost for the season.

Florida State has dominated three Top 25 teams they have played this season with a combined score of 155-28 and only have Florida as their only real challenge standing in their way to cap a perfect season.

NCAA Prediction College Football Preview/Pick- #7 Miami vs. #3 Florida St.

NCAA Picks and Predictions Miami vs. Florida St

#7 Miami Hurricanes (7-0) @ #3 Florida St. Seminoles (7-0) 11/2- 8:00PM EST

Line: FSU -22.0

Over/Under: 61.0

Easily the game of the week Saturday will feature two storied football programs fighting to get back into the national championship spotlight as No. 7 Miami Hurricanes travel into Tallahassee to battle the one of the countries best quarterbacks Jameis Winston and his No. 3 Florida State Seminoles in a classic ACC match-up that will determine which team stays in the BCS championship race.

This will be only the ninth time that Florida State (7-0, 5-0 ACC) and Miami (7-0, 3-0) have met with both sides undefeated, but both teams are doing their best to down play the game.

It’s just another game,” Miami receiver Stacy Coley said.

We’re going to prepare the same,” Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston said.

Both teams have a long history of classic battles but recently its all been one-sided as the Seminoles have dominated the last three meetings by a combined score of 101-56.

Just need to keep marching on,” Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said. “Another great opportunity.”

Miami and Florida State may both be perfect to this point, but its been the Seminoles who have been rolling over opponents whereas Miami as struggled to keep their record unblemished against inferior teams having to rally late to win.

But as history as proved when these two teams get-together.. it doesn’t matter who’s done what?

I mean, it’s why you come to UM,” a grinning Hurricanes linebacker Denzel Perryman said. “It’s a lot of fun. You’re competing with guys you played against in high school and Pop Warner, so it’s a lot of fun.”

Miami, we’re definitely going to be ready for them and we’re going to prepare well,” Seminoles safety Terrence Brooks said. “I can’t wait. It’s going to be a big stage and that’s what we all want.”

Heisman Trophy candidate Jameis Winston agrees…

“’That’s what I came here for… just the big games and the big-game atmosphere, playing football for Florida State,” said Winston.

Redshirt freshman Jameis Winston is amongst the nations leaders in many categories and everyone has taken notice.

He’s beyond his years,” said Miami coach Al Golden. “He’s talented. He’s mature with the football. Strong arm, can move his feet, can create from a bad situation and I just think he’s excellent. Regardless of his age or year in school, he’s excellent. He’s playing really well and they’re executing at a high level.”

The hype surrounding the game as been high and both teams will be full of emotion come Saturday night.

I don’t think there’s any question we have to invest in this2 emotionally,” Golden said. “I just think as coaches we don’t have to do as much this week, because it kind of sets itself up… The rivalry, it stands by itself, to be honest with you.”

They’re going to come with it,” Winston said. “And we’ve got to come with it, too.”

And that will be the key to Miami winning… stopping Jameis Winston.

Florida State is clearly the better team and Miami will need to be perfect to have a chance.

So My Prediction for the Miami vs Florida St. Game is “see below”

NCAA Prediction College Football Preview & Pick- #12 UCLA vs. #3 Oregon

ncaa

NCAA Prediction College Football Preview & Pick- #12 UCLA vs. #3 Oregon

#12 UCLA Bruins (5-1) @ #3 Oregon Ducks (7-0) 10/26- 7:00PM EST

Line: ORE -23.0

Over/Under: 71.0

The No. 12 UCLA Bruins will get the undaunting task of traveling in to Eugene to try and upset an Oregon team that has destroyed opponents in its wake as Heisman Trophy candidate Marcus Mariota continues to impress everyone, including Bruins coach Jim Mora who believes he will be a star on the next level.

I had a couple guys ask me, NFL guys, if I thought he could play at the next level,” Mora said. “I said, ‘Have you not watched him? I mean, he’ll rip it up at the next level.’ I mean this guy is ripping it up at this level. He’s really special.”

Mariota’s numbers are impressive considering most games he doesn’t even play the fourth quarter because they are so far ahead of the competition and the game is out of reach… 19 touchdowns, no interceptions and has also ran for nine TDs.

The Oregon quarterback believes however, he has much more room for improvement after he lost two fumbles in their blowout win over Washington State 62-38.

Obviously I’ve got to take care of the ball a lot better,” Mariota said. “I was pretty non-chalant with it in the pocket and we can’t have that.”

To make matters worse this Saturday, UCLA (5-1, 2-1 Pac12) will have to contend with the return of Oregon running back De’Anthony Thomas (ankle) after a three game absence.

Even without Thomas’ the last three games, Oregon (7-0, 4-0 Pac12) hasn’t missed a beat with their running game with Byron Marshall carrying the load and totaling 550 yards with seven rushing touchdowns.

On his practice sessions this week… “It’s great just to go out there, see guys having fun,” Thomas said. “I hope we can continue that, and put more points up on teams and I feel as long as we keep winning games, we should be successful.”

The Ducks will have a chip on their shoulder come Saturday as they have fallen to No.3 behind Alabama and Florida St. in the BCS polls.

That’s their opinions, we have no control over that,” Mariota said. “We’ll just continue to take it one game at a time.”

The Bruins will be looking to bounce back after their high-powered offense was stymied against #6 Stanford as they suffered their first-loss of the season 24-10. Coach Mora believes there are some positives he can take from the loss.

I believe that last week, we started seven true freshman if you include the punter against one of the best teams in America and we took it down to the end,” the coach said. “It was 17-10 there with 2:29 or whatever left on the clock. I think that’s a testament to the way our guys compete, I think it’s a testament to our coaching.”

Bruins junior quarterback Brett Hundley (also on the NFL radar) will also be looking to bounce back after last week’s sub-par performance. He was held to a season-low 192 yards passing and sacked four times.

Oregon coach Mark Helfrich is also impressed with what Hundley can bring to the table.

Hundley is the type of guy that can work with that, being an athletic guy, being a versatile guy, who can run, who can throw, who can make plays, (the) quick game down the field, all the things that they do,” Helfrich said.

The Bruins running game has been hampered of late without their top running back Jordan James who averages 115.8 yards a game.

One of the better games on Saturday, UCLA has a great offense, however the Ducks are an absolute offensive machine that scores points in bunches. Both teams possess good defenses with lots of speed… question is, can All-American linebacker Anthony Barr and the Bruin defense do enough to contain the high-flying Oregon offense? To put it simply.. NO! For that reason my NCAA Prediction and Pick for this Saturday´s Game is?

Pick: Oregon Ducks

NCAA Recap College Football Thursday Night – Canes Survive

Miami-Hurricanes-miami-hurricanes-24722701-638-430

NCAA Recap College Football Thursday Night – Canes Survive

Miami Hurricane’s coach Al Golden warned his football team going into Chapel Hill on Thursday night not to overlook a Tar Heels team that is having a down year, as they would be ready to upset the #10 Hurricanes and that they almost did until a last second touchdown by Dallas Crawford saved Miami from falling off the ranks of the unbeaten.

Crawford, a redshirt sophomore was asked to step in for top rusher Duke Johnson who was injured earlier and he responded by rushing for a career high 137 yards on 33 carries. The biggest run being a go-ahead touchdown run from 3-yards out with 16 seconds left to give the ‘Canes a 27-23 victory.

We’re resilient,” Crawford said. “We’ve been through a lot over the years. It took a long time to get to this point. In years past, we’ve probably would have lost the game. But it’s all about believing, and that’s what we did tonight.”

With the victory, the Hurricanes (6-0, 2-0 ACC) assured themselves another week of staying unbeaten and possibly staying in the Top Ten.

Miami was their own worse enemy with a rash of injuries, quarterback Stephen Morris throwing a season high four interceptions, a nationally top-ranked defense giving up 500 yards of offense and having to come back from 10 points down early in the fourth quarter in order to keep their ACC Championship dreams alive.

Still standing in Miami hurricanes way of that happening are showdowns with No. 5 Florida St. and No. 19 Virginia Tech.

There’s no turning back for this group right now,” Miami coach Al Golden said. “They’re not turning back. There’s no finger-pointing. They’re too invested in each other and in what they’ve given and what they’ve sacrificed to turn back.

I told them all week we were going to have to win this game by playing until there were four zeros, and that was right until the very end.”

However, North Carolina ( 1-5, 0-3 ACC) had one last shot with a Hail-Mary from the Miami 28-yard line as time ran out from quarterback Bryn Renner, but was knocked away denying the Tar Heels of yet another Hurricane upset.

This is worst start for the Tar Heels since 2006, who had expectations of winning their division beginning of the season.

We’ve got a bunch of guys hurting in that locker room down there,” second-year UNC coach Larry Fedora said. “A bunch of guys that played their tails off tonight, gave everything they had, they did everything we asked… Just a tough one for us to swallow for us right now.”

NCAA Picks College Football Preview & Prediction #5 Florida St Seminoles. vs. #3 Clemson Tigers

collegefootball

NCAA Picks College Football Preview & Prediction #5 Florida St Seminoles. vs. #3 Clemson Tigers

#5 Florida St. (5-0) @ #3 Clemson (6-0) 10/19 8:00PM EST

Line: FSU -3.0

Over/Under: 64.0

Now that #3 Clemson Tigers survived their “catch” game last week against Boston College, they can now shift their focus to the No. 5 Florida St. Seminoles in what many are calling the biggest game in Atlantic Coast Conference history.

It may be the biggest game in ACC history. We don’t know,” said Tigers’ defensive end Vic Beasley. “But our goal is to win a national championship.”

This will be the ACC’s first top-five match-up of teams since #5 Miami and #3 Virginia Tech squared off in 2005.

Stakes will be high come Saturday night in Death Valley as both teams will be fighting to stay in contention for a BCS Championship.

Obviously, we know it’s a big game, got a lot of national relevance, conference relevance and all that,” Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said Sunday.

Florida St. (5-0, 3-0 ACC) is coming off a bye week after thrashing a Maryland football team 63-0, while Clemson (6-0, 4-0 ACC) struggled against a Boston College team, as they may have been caught looking ahead to the Seminoles.

Last year they got us, but feel I feel like we should have won. We’re looking for payback,” said Beasley.

Last year, the Seminoles rallied for a 49-37 victory against the Tigers.

Playing in Death Valley hasn’t faired well for the Seminoles, where they have not won since 2001 and are now facing a relentless Clemson defense.

I’m trying to get the ACC to give me 13 guys and give me two more lineman so we can block them,” Florida St. coach Jimbo Fisher said. “I’m serious, they bring pressure.”

Florida St. features a potent offense lead by freshman sensation and Heisman Trophy contender Jameis Winston who has led the Seminoles to an average of nearly 54 points a game.

He doesn’t look like any redshirt freshman I’ve ever seen,” Swinney said with admiration.

With an extra week to prepare against the Clemson defense, Winston says they’re ready.

They’re after our necks,” Winston said. “We beat them at our home field last year. They beat us at their home team the year before that. It’s just going to be a back and forth battle.”

Boston College coach Steve Addazio, who’s team has played both Florida St. and Clemson says this… “It will be one of the better games of the year. They both have really good defenses and both have two really good quarterbacks. Plain and simple, they are both really good football teams.”

Expect a great game, back and forth all night long, with a slight edge to the Tigers feeding off the home crowd.

PICK: Clemson Tigers
