Nets’ Garnett not traveling, out next three games

Brooklyn Nets huge man Kevin Garnett has been coping with again spasms for eleven straight video games now as the group manages to outlive this stretch of the season with out him. And while he advised reporters this week he’s feeling higher and the condition is improving, his hope to return “soon” will not occur throughout this three-recreation highway journey for the Nets.

ESPN New York tells us Garnett will not journey with the group, meaning he’ll miss no less than three more games earlier than he can return to the lineup. The Nets blew out the Celtics 114-ninety eight Friday night to push their document to 9-2 without Garnett throughout this stretch.

Brooklyn Nets center Kevin Garnett is not going to travel with the crew on the highway and miss not less than the subsequent three games, coach Jason Kidd said Friday.

Garnett was to be re-evaluated on Saturday.

This present three-recreation road trip for the Nets may have them in Dallas on Sunday, in New Orleans on Monday, and in Charlotte on Wednesday. The earliest he can come back to the Nets’ lineup is Friday March 28 when the Nets host the Cleveland Cavaliers. In addition they face his old group, the Minnesota Timberwolves, on Sunday, March 30.

Report: Nets consider adding openly gay Collins

The Brooklyn Nets exercised Jason Collins. (USATSI)

ESPN reviews that the Brooklyn Nets been employed by out free real estate agent Jason Collins, the initial active male athlete ahead out as gay, and so are contemplating signing him to a agreement.

The Brooklyn Nets exercised Jason Collins this 7 days in Los Angeles, and sources informed ESPN.com on Thurs that they are providing strong concern to signing the free-agent center to the 10-day agreement that could position him to end up being the NBA's first dynamic openly gay player.

Sources with understanding of the Nets has been said by the problem, after letting Thursday's industry deadline pass without creating a offer for the LA Lakers' Jordan Hill, are usually weighing the inclusion of another big guy and have recognized Collins as a primary candidate to become listed on their frontcourt rotation via the 10-day path.

No ultimate decision has been produced, but sources stated the 35-year-aged has been auditioned by the group in an exclusive workout earlier this 7 days to assess the condition of his sport after last using Washington almost this past year.

The Nets are thinking about Jason Collins for a 10-day agreement, which may position him to end up being the NBA's first energetic openly gay gamer.

Nets common manager Billy King didn't attend the exercise, but said he has been told Collins is "in form."

Collins offers remained unsigned and queries have surfaced if the factors are basketball associated or out of a problem for the result of the initial out athlete in the locker space. The Nets might use another physical body down low after investing Reggie Evans to the Kings for Marcus Thornton, and Collins offers a large amount of what they're searching for. Collins made an appearance in 38 games last season, six for the Wizards after being traded from the Celtics simply.

NBA Prediction Thursday Night Game Preview/Pick- Brooklyn vs. Chicago

nets vs bulls pick

Free NBA Pick Nets vs. Bulls 2014

Brooklyn Nets (24-26, 8-15 away) @ Chicago Bulls (26-25, 14-10 home) 02/13- 8:00PM EST

Line: CHI -3.5

Over/Under: 185.0

For the first time in more than three long months, the Chicago Bulls have a chance to go two games above the .500 mark with a victory Thursday night against the visiting Brooklyn Nets.

Despite the loss of Derick Rose earlier in the season, the Bulls (26-25) have still been playing hard, especially the likes of All-Star Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson and now with the expected return of Carlos Boozer (calf strain) back, the Bulls will be in search of their fourth victory in five games as they get ready for the All-Star break.

On Tuesday night against the Atlanta Hawks in their 100-85 home win, Gibson scored a game-high 24 points and 12 boards but it was Noah who was a one man show recording his fourth career triple-double with 19 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists.

Noah has been getting it done all season for the most part and over his last four games has averaged 15.0 points, 13.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists. Against the Nets in his last five contests, Noah has been effective as well averaging 14.8 points and 10.8 rebounds… including last year’s first-round series that the Bulls won in seven games.

I think the big thing is he’s healthy. He’s gotten into rhythm,” coach Tom Thibodeau said. “I think missing camp set him back offensively. Defensively, he’s been terrific all year.”

Gibson has been terrific over his last three games in place of Boozer averaging 22.7 points and 10.3 rebounds but Thibodeau will send Gibson back to the bench to give the second unit a lift. Boozer, the teams starting forward, leads the team in scoring with 14.8 points per game.

As for Brooklyn (24-26), the seasons early first half proved horrendous, but now have seem to have found their way as of late and will be looking for their fifth win in six games and also to avenge a 95-78 home loss to the Bulls back on Christmas day.

The Nets had high expectations with their veteran players and talent coming into the 2013-14 season, but now may be finally finding their groove as well. Point guard Deron Williams (6.7 assists), power forward Paul Pierce (13.4 ppg) and center Kevin Garnett (6.9 ppg) are the cornerstones of the team.

A veteran ballclub understands that the games right before the break are important because you’re planning vacations, or planning to go to All-Star weekend, and sometimes the game becomes secondary,” coach Jason Kidd said. “A lot of the guys, for the most part, didn’t play a lot of minutes, so we’ll see what happens (in Chicago).

Both teams are not known for their offensive power, but the Bulls under Thibodeau pride themselves on defense allowing an average of just 92.7 points per game and it’s that defense the oddsmakers are counting on as they have made the Bulls a (minus -3.5) point favorite with an over/under of just 185.0, but get the latest lines on the game up until tip off right here at Wonder Punter.

The Nets have been playing well as of late and although they haven’t faired well in Chicago losing their last 12 of 15 games in the windy city, expect a tight, well fought game from both teams as they look to finish the first half of the season strong, but if Boozer is able to go…. I have to favor the Bulls.

NBA: Who Makes the East All-Star Team?

NBA East allstars

Earlier this week, we discussed the probable Western Conference representatives for the All-Star Game in New Orleans. As a follow-up, we will now discuss the likely representatives from the Eastern Conference. Before we continue, however, we must make an addendum in relation to our earlier picks.

Per NBA rules, if any player is voted into the game as a starter but cannot play due to injury, the NBA commissioner is then charged with the duty of appointing a replacement starter. Accordingly, if Kobe Bryant, the leading vote-getter in the Western backcourt pool at the moment, is unable to play, commissioner David Stern would then be left to pick a replacement starter. Assuming Chris Paul (currently in third) misses the game due to injury as well, the replacement starter should turn out the be James Harden–the best player out of the remaining pool.

Let’s now take our attention the the Eastern Conference. The current leaders in voting for backcourt players are Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat and Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Wade has missed time due to the Heat’s insistence on holding him out of back-to-back games (due to his usual knee soreness at this stage of his career), and Irving missed games recently, Neither player appears to be suffering from serious injury at the moment, however, and should both be expected to start.

The rest of the Eastern backcourt pool, after the third returns, appear to be sentimental picks. Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls, despite having been ruled out for the season, is currently in third. Fellow Point Guard Rajon Rondo of the Boston Celtics is in sixth despite not having played a single minute this season. Heat sixth-man Ray Allen is in fifth despite coming off the bench, and Deron Williams of the Brooklyn Nets is in seventh–although he is averaging the fewest points, assists, and steals since his rookie season.

As for the frontcourt returns in the East, the current leaders are LeBron James of the Miami Heat, Paul George of the Indiana Pacers, and Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks. The most interesting facet of these returns is that neither James, George, nor Anthony has logged significant minutes as a Center. Though all three have the ability to play both Forward positions, it would be amusing to watch James matchup opposite Dwight Howard (likely the Center for the Western Conference).

Anthony, the player in third in voting, is more than 300,000 votes ahead of fourth-place Roy Hibbert of the Pacers. With the starters likely to be Irving, Wade, George, Anthony, and James, we’ll turn our attention to the likely bench representatives. Keep in mind that the bench is comprised of two backcourt players, three frontcourt players, and two wildcards.

The frontcourt is the easiest to predict with Hibbert and Heat big-man Chris Bosh coming in fourth and fifth. These are the most reasonable choices at this point, though Brooklyn Nets Power Forward Kevin Garnett is currently in sixth–obviously a sentimental pick. Head coaches should know better than to select Garnett given his abysmal play this season. Therefore, the third frontcourt player will likely be culled from either Bulls Center Joakim Noah, Pistons Center Andre Drummond, Knicks Center Tyson Chandler, or Celtics Forward Jeff Green.

The frontcourt crop of talent in the East is much deeper than the backcourt and should provide the wildcard choices as well for the bench. The only sure-fire backcourt bench choice would be Wizards’ Point Guard John Wall. The other backcourt bench selection should probably come from either Indiana with Lance Stephenson or George Hill, or Toronto with Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan both having impressive seasons. Out of these four players, Stephenson probably deserves a bench spot the most given his role as a valuable starter on the Eastern Conference best Indiana team.

With Wall and Stephenson on the bench for the backcourt and Hibbert and Bosh as sure-fire frontcourt selections, we can probably expect both Noah and Drummond to make the roster, with one filling the final frontcourt spot and the other as a wildcard pick. The last representative at wildcard should, in our opinion, be either DeRozan or Green, as both players are posting respectable numbers while leading teams that are competing for the Atlantic Division lead. With the Raptors currently leading the division, we’ll take DeRozan for the final roster spot.

The final returns are still a few weeks away, so we’ll have to wait and see how the rest of the season’s first half plays out.

Nowitzki passes Reggie Miller on scoring list

Ellis Leads Mavs Rally Over Rockets

DALLAS – Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki climbed another spot increased on the NBA’s all-time scoring list during a spectacular efficiency Wednesday night.

Nowitzki passed Indiana Pacers legend Reggie Miller for the 15th spot when he hit a free throw with 2:eleven remaining in the first half of the Mavs’ 123-one hundred twenty win over the Houston Rockets. Miller finished his Hall of Fame career with 25,279 factors, 16 more than Nowitzki had getting into the night.

After a classic outing, Nowitzki has 25,298 career points. He poured in a season-high 35 points on thirteen-of-20 taking pictures, together with 14 points in the fourth quarter as the Mavs rallied from 14 down to drag off the comeback victory.

“That is not dangerous,” Nowitzki deadpanned after the win, referring to passing Miller. “Obviously I did not think when I first received right here that 15, sixteen years later, I’d be within the top 15 of scoring all-time, so it’s great. It was an incredible evening, but I’m actually extra completely satisfied concerning the win, to be honest. Meaning extra to me right now than any of the data.”

Nowitzki bumped Jerry West down a spot on the all-time scoring listing throughout the Mavs’ Nov. 12 win over the Washington Wizards. Nowitzki would undertaking to complete the season tenth on the listing if he stays healthy and continues scoring at his current clip of 20.6 points per game.

“Dirk doesn’t care about milestones,” Mavs proprietor Mark Cuban stated before the sport. “He could care less. Figuring out Dirk, he’d stick on sixteen for the subsequent two years if we’d win video games. That is all he cares about is successful. He actually would not care about that stuff.”

Brooklyn Nets center/ahead Kevin Garnett ranks 14th on the all-time scoring listing with 25,340 profession factors. The following retired participant that Nowitzki would pass is Alex English, who scored 25,613 factors in his career.

3. Oklahoma City Thunder (5-1)- With Russell Westbrook back in the fold, things are looking up.

Whether you like to play the points, over/under or straight-up… you can find it right here at Wonder Punter.

Brooklyn Nets (2-2) @ Washington Wizards (1-3) 11/08- 7:00PM EST

The Wizards look to win back-to-back games as they take on the Nets.

PICK: Brooklyn Nets

Cleveland Cavaliers (2-3) @ Philadelphia 76ers (3-2) 11/08- 7:00PM EST

The Sixers have now lost two in a row after being a Cinderella team for the first three games. Cavs coming off a big win vs. Minnesota

PICK: Cleveland

Boston Celtics (1-4) @ Orlando Magic (3-2) 11/08- 7:00PM EST

The Celtics got their first win against winless Utah, but the Magic just beat a good Clipper team on Wednesday night.

PICK: Orlando

New York Knicks (1-3) @ Charlotte Bobcats (3-2) 11/08- 7:00PM EST

Trouble in the Big Apple with their beloved Knicks… Charlotte is an early surprise. I like the odds of the Bobcats winning.

PICK: Charlotte

Toronto Raptors (2-3) @ Indiana Pacers (5-0) 11/08- 7:00PM EST

Clearly, the Pacers are the team to beat right now. Impressive win against the Bulls on Wednesday night.

PICK: Indiana

Oklahoma Thunder (3-1) @ Detroit Pistons (2-2) 11/08- 7:30PM EST

With PG Russell Westbrook back, expect the Thunder to start making a run. My bet is on OKC.

PICK: Oklahoma City

Los Angeles Lakers (2-3) @ New Orleans Pelicans (2-3) 11/08- 8:00PM EST

The Los Angeles Lakers will be playing the second of a back-to-back. Have to like the odds New Orleans winning plus they blew out Memphis on the road Wednesday night.

PICK: New Orleans

Utah Jazz (0-5) @ Chicago Bulls (1-3) 11/08- 8:00PM EST

Just what the underachieving Bulls needed, a winless Jazz team to come into town. Easy pick on this one.

PICK: Chicago

Dallas Mavericks (3-2) @ Minnesota Timberwolves (3-2) 11/08- 8:00PM EST

The Mavs will look to avoid two straight road losses after dropping one to Oklahoma City Wednesday night. Should be another tough battle for both teams, but see the T’Wolves as the favorite.

PICK: Minnesota

Golden State Warriors (4-1) @ San Antonio Spurs (4-1) 11/08- 8:30PM EST

All the oddsmakers have to be going crazy with this marquee matchup of two teams who are expected to light it up. Watch for the latest betting line here on Wonder Punter, but for a straight-up pick I like the Warriors on the road.

PICK: Golden State

Denver Nuggets (0-3) @ Phoenix Suns ( 3-2) 11/08- 9:00PM EST

With Phoenix coming off a tough road loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night, I like the odds of keeping the visiting Denver Nuggets winless on the young season.

PICK: Phoenix

Sacramento Kings (1-3) @ Portland Trailblazers (2-2) 11/08- 10:00PM EST

Portland is always tough at home… safe pick with Trailblazers.

PICK: Portland

NBA Game Recap- Heat Lose Again

heat

Miami Heat- 100

Brooklyn Nets – 101

Paul Pierce and Joe Johnson each score 19 points each for the Nets on Friday night to help halt a 13-game losing skid at the hands of Miami and give the Heat their first back-to-back lose since January 2013.

It was good that we got a taste of this type of atmosphere this early in the season to try to see where we’re at,” Pierce said. “Miami, whenever they come into town, they’re a measuring stick for everybody, so it was good for us to come out and get the win.”

As the Heat were trying to stage a furious comeback, Pierce and Johnson each hit two free throws to secure the win and drop Miami to 1-2.

After being down 11 points most of the fourth quarter, the Heat scored 10 unanswered points with seconds left to make it close before Brooklyn closed them out.

What you’ve done in the past doesn’t mean you can make it happen in the present, so we’ve just got to have a little more sense of urgency,” James said. “It’s not doomsday right now. We’re good, but we understand what we need to fix and correct.”

Brooklyn had suffered 13 straight losses to the Heat since their last victory over them on March 20, 2009.

You don’t want to have those types of losing streaks to any franchise,” said Nets point guard Deron Williams. “so it was definitely on our mind.”

Miami’s Dwayne Wade (21 points) returned to action after missing the Philadelphia game in which the Heat also lost.

This ain’t nothing new. We’ve dealt with this before. This storyline continues,” Wade said. “At the end of the day, we want to play better. We would love to play better, obviously the start, the first and the third, but we had a chance to win the game. We have to find a way to pull it out.”

This was a big and important win for the Nets who last year got swept by the Heat by an average of 21 points, so now with a new look lineup of Pierce and Kevin Garnett added to the mix to complement Deron Williams… Brooklyn now has a legitimate shot to challenge the Heat throughout the season.

The “Big Three” of James, Wade and Bosh scored 64 points while the bench play of Brooklyn outscored the Miami bench 36-22.

Source: Knicks owner expects title this year

NY – Not many pundits consider the New York Knicks can win the NBA title this season.

But staff owner and Madison Square Backyard executive chairman James Dolan expects them to take action.

In a current assembly with the teaching employees and a few group executives, Dolan mentioned he believes the Knicks have enough talent to win a title and that he expects them to take action this season, league sources with knowledge of the proprietor’s message throughout the assembly confirmed.

“He informed them he believes they have sufficient talent to win it all,” one supply stated, “and he expects it to occur this year.”

The Knicks received fifty four games final season, completed in second place in the Jap Conference and won a playoff sequence for the primary time in 13 years.

However many teams in the upper crust of the convention improved within the offseason.

The Chicago Bulls have 2010-11 league MVP Derrick Rose back after he missed last season following ACL surgery. The Brooklyn Nets added veterans Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to a deep roster, and the Indiana Pacers – who defeated the Knicks within the second round of the playoffs – added Luis Scola and count on to have ahead Danny Granger back.

Due largely to wage-cap restrictions, the Knicks had a quiet offseason relative to these teams. They added 7-foot sharpshooter Andrea Bargnani, re-signed reigning Sixth Man Award winner J.R. Smith and signed free brokers Metta World Peace and Beno Udrih.

Primarily based on these offseason moves, many NBA pundits predict that the Knicks will finish no greater than fifth in the East.

That is why, according to sources, Dolan’s expectations left some staffers within the assembly with an uneasy feeling.

“A number of folks have been a bit shocked, shocked. However he is the proprietor. He has a proper to count on it,” one supply stated.

When requested Wednesday in regards to the assembly, which was earlier reported by the New York Each day Information, Knicks president and GM Steve Mills would neither affirm nor deny that it happened.

“When it comes to an edict, we try to win every year. And our purpose is to try to win a championship and attempt to be as aggressive as we can presumably be,” Mills stated.

It’s certainly understandable that Dolan would expect New York to win a title this season. The Knicks, who last received it all in 1973, have the second-highest payroll in the league behind the Nets, in line with basketball-reference.com.

Nets proprietor Mikhail Prokhorov, incidentally, expects his team to win all of it this season, as properly.

For what it’s price, Knicks coach Mike Woodson has stated several times that he thinks the Knicks have enough expertise to compete for a title. However Dolan’s expectation may put further strain on the coach, the players and team executives this season.

An added layer to Dolan’s title expectation is that the owner needed to make use of youthful players on the end of the roster.

According to sources with data of the workforce’s pondering, Dolan directed the front workplace to maintain youthful gamers with the ultimate roster spots in order that they’ll develop throughout the organization.

Some members of the group’s hierarchy had hoped to keep veteran players in the final three roster spots, significantly if the expectation is for the Knicks to win now.

In the end, New York kept three coaching camp invitees on the 15-man roster: 23-yr-outdated guard Toure’ Murry, 26-year-outdated guard Chris Smith, the youthful brother of J.R. Smith, and 24-year-old middle Cole Aldrich. They lower 30-yr-outdated veteran forwards Ike Diogu and Josh Powell.

4. Indiana Pacers- Last years team was good, now with Danny Granger back and the addition of Luis Scola… they will be even better.

9. Memphis Grizzles- The addition of Mike Miller should help with a team depleted with shooters.

10. Brooklyn Nets- Can an aging Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce be the difference that Deron Williams and new coach Jason Kidd need to contend?

11. New York Knicks- J.R Smith is still on the shelve and Amar’e and Kenyon Martin are not quite ready for back-to-backs yet.

12. Minnesota Timberwolves- A full year of a healthy Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio can finally make the Wolves a playoff contender after a drought of nine seasons.

18. Detroit Pistons- Two big additions with the face of the franchise now Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings.

“That is the character of our enterprise, man. I don’t know what Boston was going by at the end of the day. I know Ray needed to make the very best decision for him and his family and his career. Doc [Rivers, former Celtics coach], KG and Paul did that as properly. You possibly can’t criticize somebody who does one thing that’s finest for his or her family.”

James, after all, left the Cleveland Cavaliers to sign with the Heat in 2010. His “resolution” stays infamous to this present day.
