NFL’s strength of schedule: Raiders finally No. 1

The Oakland Raiders haven't had a successful season since 2002 and if the NFL's 2014 strength of schedule is any indication, that streak is prone to proceed for an additional yr.

Based on 2013 records, the Raiders will play the toughest schedule within the NFL subsequent season. The Raiders will play a total of 9 video games against 2013 playoff groups, plus a game in opposition to the 10-win Arizona Cardinals.

The Raiders schedule is as near a murderer's row as an NFL schedule can produce. Oakland performs all four teams that played in the NFC and AFC Championship games and that includes three games in opposition to the two groups that have been within the Tremendous Bowl.

Oakland might have it powerful, but they don't seem to be the only ones taking part in 9 games against 2013 playoff groups. The Broncos may also play a complete of nine games in 2014 against teams that made the playoffs in 2013.

The eight toughest schedules in the NFL belong to the eight groups in the AFC and NFC West. The two divisions will play one another in 2014. The two divisions mixed to send five of their eight teams to the postseason in 2013.

It pays to be within the AFC South in 2014. The four best power of schedules subsequent season belong to the the 4 groups in that division. Going into 2014, Indianapolis has the best energy of schedule, adopted by Tennessee, Houston and Jacksonville.

The Colts 2014 opponents have a combined 2013 document of 110-146. The Raiders 2014 opponents have a mixed document of 148-108.

In any case of this power of schedule speak, the plain question right here is: Does strength of schedule actually mean something?

Going into the 2013 season, the Carolina Panthers had the hardest power of schedule. After the 2013 season was over although, the Panthers had only played the 17th most tough schedule.

Loads of that had to do with the fact that Carolina performed the Falcons twice. Going into 2013, the Panthers strength of schedule was calculated using the Falcons 2012 record of 13-three. After 2013, it was calculated utilizing the Falcons 2013 report of 4-12.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers ended up playing essentially the most tough schedule in 2013, however before the season, they have been only projected to play the 17th hardest schedule.

Here's the 2014 power of schedule for each NFL crew (Mixed 2013 file of all sixteen opponents, mixed winning share)

2. Denver Broncos: 146-110,570

NFL Prediciton Week 12 Thursday Night Game Preview & Pick

Free pick and prediction week 12 Thursday nights game

New Orleans Saints (8-2) @ Atlanta Falcons (2-8) 11/21- 8:25PM EST

Line: NO -9.5

Over/Under: 53.0

Thursday night’s NFL match-up will feature two football teams going in opposite directions… and last year the roles were reversed as the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons will battle in the NFC South as the Saints will try to sweep the season series and extend the Falcons’ losing streak to five games… their longest in five years.

New Orleans (8-2) will be vying for their third straight victory and keep pace with the Seattle Seahawks who are 1½ games ahead of them in the NFC for best record.

These are the (games) that just sharpen you, build confidence moving forward,” quarterback Drew Brees said.

Atlanta (2-8) tied for worst record in the conference and one year-removed from an NFC-best 13-3 record has problems everywhere… injuries, poor running game and a struggling defense has caused what many feel around the league to have quit on each other as they have dropped four straight.

Cleary, we’re 10 games into this thing and certainly far, far away from where we want to be,” quarterback Matt Ryan said. “We’ve got six games to go. It’s about going out there and taking pride in what you do.”

These two teams were expected to compete with one another for the South Division title, instead it’s the Carolina Panthers who are challenging the Saints.

Drew Brees has led an offense that ranks second in the NFL with 419.1 yards and 28.8 points per game. Brees is completing 68.2 percent of his passes and is second to Peyton Manning with 3,369 yards passing and 26 touchdowns.

Defensively, the Saints are getting it done as well ranking fourth in the league with 305.4 yards and fifth with 18.3 points this season.

New Orleans enters Thursday’s contest having won 12 of 15 over the Falcons and this season with Atlanta having a down year, the oddsmakers have favored the Saints (minus) -9.5 on the road which may change as the game approaches, so check the latest odds here at Wonder Punter up until game time.

This is a test we’re going to have to try and overcome,” defensive Cameron Jordan said. “Honestly, why not have it? It’s a division opponent, it’s our rival. It’s going to talk a lot about the fortitude and what we have on this team.”

Atlanta is allowing 29.2 points per game—29th in the league and may have hit rock bottom last Sunday in their loss to the one-win Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Despite the backward season the Falcons are suffering through this year.. Atlanta owner Arthur Blank remains confident in Smith and general manager Thomas Dimitroff.

I absolutely do. And, they’ve earned it over the past five years,” Blank said. “It’s a tough business. We’ve had a lot if injuries, and issues on top of the injuries. These guys are proven leaders and proven by success. … They’ll do the work that has been done with my full support.”

With a season virtually lost, can the Falcons finish the season strong and with pride?

PICK: New Orleans

NFL Week 12 Power Rankings Wonder Punter

Power Rankings NFL week 12

Last night’s Monday night game brought to an end of another exciting week in football in which some teams improved their Power Rankings and others continued to fall as quarterback injuries have taken their toll. Week 11 also brought the end of the NFL’s only unbeaten team when Kansas City fell to the Broncos.

Here is this week’s Week 12 Power Rankings for teams 1-32 with records and last week’s ranking.

Place your bets here upto $1000 signup bonus

1 Denver Broncos (9-1 LW: 2)- Round 1 goes to the Broncos… rematch with KC in two weeks.

2 Seattle Seahawks (10-1 LW: 3) Other then a home game against the Saints, they should be able to run the table the rest of the way.

3 New Orleans Saints (8-2 LW: 4)- Undefeated at home so far… but the playoffs may mean winning on the road.

4 Carolina Panthers (7-3 LW: 6)- Beating quality teams now and only getting better.

5 Kansas City Chiefs (9-1 LW: 1)- Still a solid team on defense… but the offense will need to get better if they expect to make some noise in the playoffs.

6 New England Patriots (7-3 LW: 5)- Patriots are still looking for the flag… they got earlier in the year against the Saints. So…

7 Indianapolis Colts (7-3 LW: 7)- Good comeback win at Tennessee, but I still think Rams game.

8 San Francisco 49ers (6-4 LW: 8)- They were so close to being 8-2…. Two tough games in a row.

9 Cincinnati Bengals (7-4 LW: 10)- Their win on Sunday should put them in position for the AFC North crown and a first-round bye.

10 Detroit Lions (6-4 LW 9)- Can we do the fake field goal play over again?

11 Chicago Bears (6-4 LW: 12)- Big home win over the Ravens.. which Rams team will they face on Sunday?

12 Philadelphia Eagles (6-4 LW: 13)- Finally a team in the NFC East is playing like they want to win it.. Nick Foles getting it done.

13 New York Jets (5-5 LW: 13)- Jekyll and Hyde if you ask me… we just don’t know what team will show up on Sundays.

14 Arizona Cardinals (6-4 LW: 16)- Winning games despite no running game and a QB who’s thrown more INTs then TDs.

15 Miami Dolphins (5-5 LW: 21)- Gritty performance and win against San Diego with all the distractions staring at them.

16 San Diego Chargers (4-6 LW: 17)- If they could just finish games… but now they still have three games left against the Chiefs and Broncos.

17 Dallas Cowboys (5-5 LW: 15)- Big game against the resurgent Giants Sunday on the road.

18 Green Bay Packers (5-5 LW: 14)- No Aaron Rodgers…. No hope!

19 Pittsburgh Steelers (4-6 LW: 25)- Is this the same Steelers team who we all left for dead earlier? Held the Lions scoreless in the second half.

20 Cleveland Browns (4-6 LW: 18)- Big home game on Sunday against the Steelers. If they win… maybe still a chance?

21 Buffalo Bills (4-7 LW: 27)- Winnable games coming up against the Bucs, Falcons, Jags and Dolphins… Wildcard? hmmm maybe.

22 Baltimore Ravens (4-6 LW: 19)- Failing to score on first-and-goal at the Chicago 5-yard line. Story of the year for the offense.

23 St Louis Rams (4-6 LW 20)- In a division with Seattle and San Francisco… it’s tough.

24 New York Giants (4-6 LW: 26)- Four wins in a row now with Dallas coming up.

25 Oakland Raiders (4-6 LW: 24)- Is Matt McGloin the answer at quarterback?

26 Tennessee Titans (4-6 LW: 22)- How big do the losses to the Jags and Colts look now in an AFC race that’s up for grabs.

27 Washington Redskins (3-7 LW: 23)- So much for running the tables like last year.

28 Houston Texans (2-8 LW: 28)- Still playing hard… that’s all you could ask for at this point.

29 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-8 LW: 31) Two in a row… and they had some winnable games throughout the season.

30. Atlanta Falcons (2-8 LW: 29)- Unlike the Texans, this is a football that has quit on everybody. Embarrassing!

31 Minnesota Vikings (2-8 LW: 30)- Playing for a quarterback in next year’s draft.

32 Jacksonville Jaguars (1-9 LW 32)- It was fun while it lasted.

NFL Predictions Week 11 Preview and Picks

free-nfl-picks3

Free NFL Picks and predictions for Week 11

NFL Week 11 is going to be another great week of NFL games with the four big ones in my opinion being Cleveland @ Cincinnati, San Francisco @ New Orleans, Kansas City @ Denver (Sunday night) and New England @ Carolina (Monday night). Here is my quick preview for each game along with the spread and my pick/prediction for each match-up. Remember, you can check the latest lines and place your favorite bet(s) right here through Wonder Punter. Good Luck!

New York Jets (5-4) @ Buffalo Bills (3-7) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: Even

Over/Under: 40.5

With the Jets coming off their bye week, I have to think they will play the better game and expected a little from the Bills to this point. If Geno Smith is on…

PICK: NYJ

Baltimore Ravens (4-5) @ Chicago Bears (5-4) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: CHI -3.0

Over/Under: 45.0

The Ravens are coming off a big home win last Sunday against a Cincinnati team without much offensive production. The Bears will be without Jay Cutler. Still like the Bears in this one being at home.

PICK: Chicago

Cleveland Browns (4-5) @ Cincinnati Bengals (6-4) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: CIN -6.0

Over/Under: 42.0

The Bengals have lost back-to-back games in overtime and lost the last meeting with Cleveland but will go with Cincy in this one to get it done.

PICK: Cincinnati

Washington Redskins (3-6) @ Philadelphia Eagles (5-5) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: PHI -4.5

Over/Under: 53.0

Too much at stake for the Eagles with a chance to get into sole possession of first place with a win and Nick Foles has been great the last two weeks.

PICK: Philadelphia

Detroit Lions (6-3) @ Pittsburgh Steelers (3-6) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: DET -2.5

Over/Under: 47.0

The Steelers have been playing better ball since their ‘rock bottom’ game a few weeks backs, but with a healthy Lions duo of Stafford/Johnson… I like the Lions on the road.

PICK: Detroit
BetOnline
Atlanta Falcons (2-7) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-8) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: EVEN

Over/Under: 43.0

The ‘experts’ have it even.. I kind of agree. With a very disappointing Falcons team this year, can the Bucs win two in a row?

PICK: Atlanta

Arizona Cardinals (5-4) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (1-8) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: ARI -8.5

Over/Under: 41.0

As long as the Cardinals don’t have a ‘let-down’ game, they should win easily.

PICK: Arizona

Oakland Raiders (3-6) @ Houston Texans (2-7) 11/17- 1:00PM EST

Line: HOU -7.0

Over/Under: 41.5

Texans head coach Gary Kubiak is back, Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor is questionable…. seems like a Texans win to me.

PICK: Houston

San Diego Chargers (4-5) @ Miami Dolphins (4-5) 11/17- 4:05PM EST

Line: SD -1.0

Over/Under: 45.5

Always tough for a West Coast team to travel East and play but with the Dolphins in the midst of controversy… can they stay focused?

PICK: San Diego

San Francisco 49ers (6-3) @ New Orleans Saints (7-2) 11/17- 4:25PM EST

Line: NO -3.0

Over/Under: 47.5

I expect a better performance this week from the 49ers, but New Orleans is just a very good team in the Dome. Should be a good. Too much Saints.

PICK: New Orleans

Minnesota Vikings (2-7) @ Seattle Seahawks (9-1) 11/17- 4:25PM EST

Line: SEA -12.0

Over/Under: 45.5

After last week’s solid road performance, I think the Seahawks have shaken off their two-week funk with those close victories.

PICK: Seattle

Kansas City Chiefs (9-0) @ Denver Broncos (8-1) 11/17- 8:30PM EST

Line: DEN -7.5

Over/Under: 49.0

The first of two anticipated meetings is soon upon us.. can the much ‘talked-about’ Kansas City defense do enough to slow down the Broncos?

PICK: Denver

New England Patriots (7-2) @ Carolina Panthers (6-3) 11/18- 8:30PM EST

Wonder Punter NFL Week 11 Power Rankings

NFL-Power-Rankings

NFL Power rankings for week 11 2013

With a 10 full weeks of NFL games in the books, let’s take a look at our new NFL Power Rankings for Week 11 which will begin on Thursday. The Indianapolis Colts who were a constant top 5 teams in our rankings took a hit with their bad loss at the hands of the Rams, as did some other teams after Sunday and Monday night’s game. The Carolina Panthers made the biggest jump with their impressive defensive performances win at San Francisco. And Tampa Bay and Jacksonville are in the win column… finally.

1 Kansas City Chiefs (9-0)- Even with the bye week, I will keep them in No. 1 spot, however they will be challenged in the next two of three weeks with the Denver Broncos on the bill.

2 Denver Broncos (8-1)- Denver’s next three games…. KC, at New England, at KC. Things are about to get interesting in the AFC.

3 Seattle Seahawks (9-1)- Seattle put together a full road game against the Falcons on Sunday and dominated them. Much more impressive win.

4 New Orleans Saints (7-2)- World beaters at home… except in the NFL you only get to play half at home during the regular season.

5 New England Patriots (7-2)- Coming off their bye week, they will have a great road test at Carolina on Monday night.

6 Carolina Panthers (6-3)- One quality victory down with a road win at San Fran., can they duplicate another at home against the Patriots on Monday night?

7 Indianapolis Colts (6-3)- I don’t think anyone is sure what happened to them on Sunday’s ugly home loss to the Rams…. They couldn’t have been looking ahead to the Titans, could they have?

8 San Francisco (6-3)- A bounce here, a bounce there, who knows… but teams 6 and 7 beat them at Candlestick.

9 Detroit Lions (6-3)- Big road win at Soldier Field to take over sole possession over first place in the NFC North.

10 Cincinnati Bengals (6-4)- Back-to-back road losses at Miami then Baltimore.. lose to Cleveland on Sunday and they may have a problem.

11 New York Jets (5-4)- Coming off their bye week with winnable game at Buffalo on Sunday.

12 Chicago Bears (5-4)- Can Josh McCown hold it together ‘til Cutler makes it back… whenever that is.

13 Philadelphia Eagles (5-5)- Nick Foles has had two great back-to-back games. My favorites now to win a weak NFC East.

14 Green Bay Packers (5-4)- Despite their quarterback injuries, they have a winnable game at the Giants on Sunday.

15 Dallas Cowboys (5-5)- In what was probably their ‘rock bottom’ game on Sunday, they are still in first place in the NFC.. but barely.

16 Arizona Cardinals (5-4)- Too bad they have play in the same division as the Seahawks and 49ers.

17 San Diego Chargers (4-5)- Too bad they have to play in same division as the Chiefs and Broncos.

18 Cleveland Browns (4-5)- Win at Cincinnati on Sunday and they may have a chance to win what is now a weak AFC North.

19 Baltimore Ravens (4-5)- It’s a good thing the defense showed up on Sunday against the Bengals because the offense was nowhere to be found.

20 St. Louis Rams (4-6)- The Tavon Austin show and a blowout win at Indy.

21 Miami Dolphins (4-5)- In week one following the bullying-blowup, they lose to the winless Bucs.

22 Tennessee Titans (4-5)- First they lose Jake Locker for the year, then they lose to the worst team in the league.

23 Washington Redskins (3-6)- In a weak NFC East, they show no signs of wanting it.

24 Oakland Raiders (3-6)- Have now lost 12 straight on East Coast trips and now word Terrelle Pryor may be out for awhile.

25 Pittsburgh Steelers (3-6)- What’s all this talk about trading away ‘Big Ben?’ Will that make them better… and will anybody take a banged-up quarterback?

26 New York Giants (3-6)- Must I keep talking about the NFC East anymore… they’re still in it but have some tough games coming up.

27 Buffalo Bills (3-7)- It’s all about building a foundation for 2014.

28 Houston Texans (2-7)- Still better then their record indicates.

29. Atlanta Falcons (2-7)- I used to think they were better then their record indicated.

30 Minnesota Vikings (2-7)- With Christian Ponder’s status up in the air for Sunday’s game, will we see another quarterback change for the Vikings?

31 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-8)- Guess they didn’t want to be ranked last in the league.

32 Jacksonville Jaguars (1-8)- Well for about 32 hours they were ranked 31st….

“I will meet with Jonathan Martin face to face and listen to what he has to say,” Ross stated Monday at Raymond James Stadium before the Dolphins’ game against the winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers. “Then, I will cope with it from there. A lot has been said about loads of different things.”

Ross promised to make changes all through the organization following the NFL’s investigation. He described the scenario as a “nightmare” and was not proud of the detrimental media attention his group has gotten as a result of actions in his locker room.

“Steve known as me and said he wasn’t certain what happened,” Dungy stated. “He’s within the process of discovering that out. However he desires to look forward and see how he may guarantee their locker room and whole organization was working in the best way. He wanted to get some former gamers that he respects and former coaches and put collectively a recommendation of greatest practices.

“… I believe he wanted to get some ex-Dolphins. I think he wanted to get some guys that he revered that would say, ‘That is how football is. That is normal. This is what we had in nice locker rooms and that is the way you get it.’ I think he picked some nice guys.”

The group, which Ross desires to ultimately increase to seven or nine individuals, will offer recommendation to each the owner and coach Joe Philbin on learn how to create a better in-house tradition in Miami.

NFL Week 10 Monday Night Recap- Buccaneers No Longer Winless

Tampa Bay Buccaneers v Miami Dolphins

Miami Dolphins (4-5)- 19

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-8)- 22

Line: MIA -2.5

Over/Under: 39.5

With Monday night’s victory, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-8) joined the Jacksonville Jaguars (who won on Sunday) as the last of the remaining teams to win an NFL game as they held the Miami Dolphins (4-5) to a whopping 2 yards rushing on the night for a 22-19 victory to assure themselves a winless season and avoid their 5th 0-9 start in franchise history.

It was rookie quarterback Mike Glennon’s 1-yard touchdown toss to tackle Donald Penn that made the difference as the Buc’s defense held on the final 10 minutes to give them a much deserved victory.

Glennon finished 11 of 21 for 139 yards, with one touchdown and one interception in his sixth pro start.

Much can be said about the Miami Dolphins mindset coming in with the swirling controversy regarding allegations of daily harassment on tackle Jonathan Martin (who has since left the team) by veteran guard Richie Incognito (who has since been suspended) pending a formal NFL investigation.

Nonetheless, the Buccaneers will take it any way they can.

It’s good to stand up here after a win,” Bucs coach Greg Schiano said. “We have to build off this.”

Miami (4-5) was down early 15-0, before coming back to take a 19-15 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

But, Tampa’s defense stepped-up sacking Ryan Tannehill twice on Miami’s final possession before Darrelle Revis picked-off Tannehill’s pass on a fourth-down attempt intended for Mike Wallace with 1:35 remaining.

We have good guys on this team who understand adversity and understand how to handle it,” Tannehill said. “This is a good test. I’m not saying it’s easy. I’m not saying it’s fun to deal with. But I have faith in these guys.”

Believe it or not, but the Buccaneers have not been all bad this year despite their record.. in four of their losses, they held fourth-quarter leads before losing in the final 89 seconds of regulation or overtime.

This time, they learned how to finish.

It had the same feeling going down the stretch,” Schiano said. “But our guys bowed up and made some plays.”

Miami owner Stephen Ross broke his silence regarding the bullying scandal that has given the Miami Dolphins a black-eye around the nation.

We need to look at ourselves. We have to examine everything internally,” Ross said. “This is so appalling to me. I know I’m capable of overreacting. I want to get everybody’s feedback because we all know the football locker room is a different workplace than most of us are accustomed to. I don’t want to make any excuses.”

Ross has since formed an independent advisory group to review organizational conduct policies and to make recommendations on areas for improvement. Tony Dungy, Don Shula, Dan Marino, Jason Taylor and Curtis Martin are included in that group.

With the lack of a running game, the Dolphins became a one dimensional team.

Tannehill went 27 of 42 for 229 yards, two touchdowns and a game ending interception.

We moved the ball well through the air but we didn’t have any balance. That caught up to us at the end of the game,” Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said.

There’s a lot of football left to be played. November and December is going to determine who moves forward,” Philbin said. “We have to learn from the mistakes we made and prepare better and play better.”

Tough night and an even tougher week for the Miami Dolphins.

To be continued….

NFL Prediciton Week 10 Monday Night Football Game Preview/Pick- Miami vs. Tampa Bay

miami

Miami Dolphins (4-4) @ Tampa Bay (0-8) 11/11- 8:30PM EST

Line: MIA -1.0

Over/Under: 41.0

With the Miami Dolphins going through a week of bad headlines surrounding alleged internal harassment between players and now a league investigation, can the Miami Dolphins stay focused on playing a full 60-minutes of football against the winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night? here is the prediction

Right now we’re focused on sticking together as a team, having each others backs as a team, and getting ready to play a football game,” Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill said. “At the end of the day, we’re playing a Tampa Bay team on the road on Monday. So we have to deal with this, yes, but we also have to get ready to play a football game.”

At stake for the Dolphins (4-4) is to get back to winning football as they seek their second straight win and look to get back in the playoff hunt.

The Dolphins won their first three games to start the season, then dropped four straight before winning last week at home against the Bengals in OT.

You never want to lose four games in a row,” coach Joe Philbin said. “And we had an excellent football team coming in town. It was time for us to step up and we had to make a decision—what are we going to be? And I thought they answered the bell pretty well.”

Protection will be an issue for the Dolphins who will be without offensive linemen Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito sidelined. Martin left the team before last week’s game due to alleged bullying by Incognito, who was suspended indefinitely this week.

For the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-8), they are coming off one of their better games last week giving Seattle all they can handle before blowing a fourth-quarter lead for the fourth time this season and falling to the Seahawks 27-24.

Tough loss, but there’s a lot of good things on that tape. … Things we can build off of,” coach Greg Schiano said.

One thing to build on is the 24 points scored against a great Seahawks defense… which was a season-best for the Bucs. They rank second to last in points per game (15.5) and yards per game (304.4).

Rookie quarterback Mike Gleenon has shown great improvement over the last three games with five touchdowns and no interceptions.

Another bright spot has been rookie running back Mike James who ran for a career-high 158 yards on 28 carries filling in for the injured Doug Martin.

Those are things that are getting us excited and encouraged,” Schaino said. “Three games without an interception. That’s how we have to play the game. I’m mad at myself for not getting us there sooner.”

The oddsmakers are also encouraged by the Bucs recent play by giving the Dolphins a slight advantage with the spread with a (minus) -1.0 for the Dolphins. Be sure to visit Wonder Punter before game time to place your bet on Monday’s game.

Tampa Bay has also won the last two at home versus the Dolphins and three of four against them.

With the betting line as close as it is, I feel the Buccaneers are ready to upset the Dolphins and notch their first victory of the season.

PICK: Tampa Bay
