Vikings at Packers: Odds, prediction and preview

Oct 27, 2013; Minneapolis, MN, USA; Minnesota Vikings operating back Adrian Peterson (28) is stopped by the Inexperienced Bay Packers defense during the fourth quarter at Mall of America Subject at H.H.H. Metrodome. The Packers defeated the Vikings forty four-31. Necessary Credit score: Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Vikings should play the spoiler position this time round of their annual rivalry sport with the Inexperienced Bay Packers. The 2 clubs squared-off twice last yr within the common seasons with each video games having vital postseason implications.

The third time they performed was towards each other in the playoffs, but there’s a chance neither team makes it back there this yr.

“This is an NFC North opponent, our rival. It’s a huge recreation for us, our most necessary recreation of the season, number one, because it’s the following game on our schedule, but also due to who the opponent is. It’s an opportunity for us to get a win in our division, so it could mean a lot to our team and our followers,” Vikings Head Coach Leslie Frazier instructed Packers media on Wednesday.

The Packers continue to anxiously await the return of their All-Pro quarterback in Aaron Rodgers. After he suffered a broken collarbone throughout the staff’s Week 9 Monday Night time Football game in opposition to the Chicago Bears, the crew has lost three-straight video games and went from leading the NFC North to being outdoors of the playoff picture looking in.

Sunday in opposition to the New York Giants, Scott Tolzien obtained his first NFL begin in hopes of stopping the bleeding. He was unable to take action, as he completed 24/34 passing and threw three interceptions in Green Bay’s 27-thirteen loss to the Giants on Sunday.

However at 2-eight, motivation generally is a downside on a cold day late in the season for a team like the Vikings enjoying in hostile territory. To not point out they’ve not won in Lambeau since Brett Favre was there quarterback, and nobody’s mistaking Christian Ponder for the future hall of famer.

This will most likely be a low-scoring defensive affair the place each offenses depend on their working recreation to hold them to victory. Packers rookie working back Eddie Lacy has run with the identical pushing brand of soccer as the good Adrian Peterson does, and watching these two look to grind out every yard on Sunday will probably be a battle to observe.

Matters: Aaron Rodgers, Adrian Peterson, Eddie Lacy, Inexperienced Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, NFL, Scott Tolzien

Mock Draft v1.0: MLS on Campus peers into the crystal ball two months out

UMD Athletics Media Relations

Let’s get a couple of issues out of the way first.

  1. The SuperDraft is two months from now.
  2. Neither the MLS season nor the school soccer season is over.
  3. Every single one of these Technology adidas names is a guess. Nobody’s been signed but.
  4. A superb chunk of the league is either still in search of, or has just recently employed their head coach.

This means most of those concerned MLS don’t know exactly what they want by means of players within the SuperDraft, and in any case, whatever they think they need might change between now and January as the rest of the NCAA Match plays out.

But the NCAA Match begins on Thursday, so if you want a rundown of which gamers you might want to have a look at so you’ll be able to pester your favourite team to draft them, here’s where you’ll start.

With out further ado, let’s make a mockery of this Draft:

Choose Team
1 Patrick Mullins (F)

When your team was tied for lowest objective output in the league and you’ve got the best faculty attacker in the nation within spitting distance of your stadium, you take him.

Greatest MLS comparability: Soony Saad

(Via Chivas USA

Philly want a left again and central midfielder. Stolz isn’t going to help a lot at left back, but boy can he ball in the middle of the park.

Finest MLS comparability: Marcelo Sarvas

(Via Toronto FC)

Andre Blake (GK)

Connecticut / GA

The ‘Caps have 4 goalkeepers on their roster right now, but there’s no way all 4 start with the group next season. And with a ‘keeper pretty much as good as Blake on this draft, you might do worse than taking the Jamaican to begin revamping.

Finest MLS comparability: Donovan Ricketts

four Schillo Tshuma (M/F)

Maryland / GA

5 Most likely the best pure chance creator available. It’s vital to have them when your forwards – Cooper, Hassli and Pérez – have combined for a little less than three assists per season of their MLS careers.

Greatest MLS comparability: Dilly Duka

6 We talked about that Philly wanted a left back. Philly, meet Ben Sweat. Tall, rangy, and desirous to get ahead, there will likely be no questions on this athleticism. He will have to rein in a few of these attacking instincts, though.

Greatest MLS comparison: Jordan Stewart

7 Lee Young-Pyo’s retirement decreases the average age of the Whitecaps’ defenders, but Jay DeMerit is getting up there in years, and it is advisable to have a smart, capable alternative ready within the wings just in case he will get injured at the very starting of the season. Again.

Best MLS comparison: Jason Hernandez

8 Kyle Venter (D)

New Mexico

Chicago are a bit of skinny at heart back, and if Venter’s still out there here, it’d be value it to add some depth.

Finest MLS comparability: George John

9 Marlon Hairston (M)

Louisville / GA

Still an “if” at this point as Hairston is by no means a surefire Generation adidas signee. Regardless, a team like San Jose may actually use a speedy box-to-box midfielder to draw attention away from their forwards, and canopy some of the ground left by the four-4-2.

Greatest MLS comparability: Andrew Jacobson

10 Even before Alessandro Nesta retired, the Affect had some work to do on the again. Enter the 6-foot-6, 208-pound German from UCSB.

Best MLS comparability: Kwame Watson-Siriboe

11 Jared Watts (M)

Wake Forest

12 Pedro Ribeiro (M)

Coastal Carolina

At 6-foot-three and 208 pounds, you’d think that Ribeiro can be a destroyer sort of midfielder. But then you definitely’d notice that he’s scored 31 targets and served up 25 assists over his 4 years at Coastal Carolina, and that he’s really just freakishly good at soccer.

Greatest MLS comparison: Juninho

thirteen Steve Neumann (M/F)

Mauro Rosales seems to have one foot out the door, and even when comes again he went the complete 90 just thrice in 2013. Having someone to platoon with Rosales, and even exchange him as Seattle’s attacking hub would be good. Neumann does precisely that – although there are concerns about his athleticism.

Best MLS comparability: Roger Torres

14 LA might just as simply commerce this choose away to see what they might get for it – it’s not like they don’t have plenty of good young gamers – but having Baiden round could be worth it. Suppose a Ghanaian Dax McCarty.

Finest MLS comparability: Dax McCarty

15 Kevin Cope (D)

Michigan St.

The rest of Round 1, in no particular order:

Luca Gimenez, M, Wake Forest – His eight goals and four assists this 12 months gave him the distinction of among the finest attacking talents in the ACC. Actually, he was First Team All-Convention.

Steve Birnbaum, D, California – Birnbaum is nursing an ankle harm in the meanwhile, so it’s powerful to know what form he’ll be in for the NCAA Event, but when he can prove he’s wholesome, he’ll probably be a lot increased up this record subsequent time around.

Enrique Cardenas, M, UC Irvine – The Big West Midfielder of the 12 months scored eight objectives, along with six assists, in 2013, as UC Irvine ended up winning the conference event.

Nikita Kotlov, M, Indiana – Masked in Indiana’s extra time futility for many of this season was the fact that they’ve some really good gamers. Kotlov is one among them. You’ll most likely be seeing him a fair amount subsequent yr

5 Others Who May Be Technology adidas:

Cristian Mata, F, Tulsa – The sophomore strike sensation had a wildly profitable year in his freshman season: 14 goals and 6 assists. He calmed down barely this year, with 10 goals and 7 assists. Productive, however there are athleticism questions.

James “C.” Nortey, F, Marquette – If not for offseason surgery in 2012 that led to him sitting out with a medical redshirt, he’d have been a junior. Regardless, the Ghanaian striker picked up right where he left off as a freshman, and with the NCAA Tournament in sight will have a great probability to eclipse his 9-aim document he’s set himself.

Alex Bono, GK, Syracuse – The Orange didn’t have a particularly great season, but don’t blame Bono. He was large, incomes eight shutouts in 18 begins en path to successful third-team All-ACC honors. That’s barely down from last yr when he surrendered 17 objectives in 20 contests and made a ridiculous 79 saves.

Omar Holness, M, UNC – Does he ultimately line up in central midfield, or on the wing? Or does somebody make him a fullback? There are some long-term questions for Holness, however he does things like this. Groups like things like that.

A.J. Cochran, D, Wisconsin – The 6-foot-3, 195-pound junior heart again simply gained Huge Ten Defensive Player of the Yr. And he’s left-footed. Go wild, American soccer followers!

5 Seniors That May Also Be First-Rounders

Pete Caringi, F, UMBC – Caringi has drawn massive accolades this season, scoring 12 goals as the Retrievers went sixteen-1-2. If he can stick with it within the NCAA tournament, he’s prone to go in the first spherical.

Jimmy Ockford, D, Louisville – The ACC Defensive Participant of the Yr is clearly very good at defending (it’s proper there in the title), however he’s also one thing of a purpose threat. He tallied 4 instances in his senior season in River City.

Mackenzie Pridham, F, Cal Poly – Pridham scored at fairly a clip, ending the 12 months with 14 targets to win his second straight Big West Offensive Player of the 12 months. The Ontario native is a US permanent resident, so he’ll depend as a domestic participant, however Toronto FC appears to have the within track for the time being: He spent the summer season training with them.

Reinaldo Brenes, F/M, Akron – Brenes is a extremely rated ahead, and even though his aim numbers dipped this yr, he still completed with the staff lead with six strikes. He’s comfy taking part in between the strains, however there are questions on his long-time period spot.

Victor Chavez, F, UCLA – Completed second in scoring on UCLA with six targets and six assists, despite missing six video games as a result of injury. Is sort of a ‘tweener, and should must convert to midfield at the MLS level.

A.J. McCarron: Can We Just Acknowledge That He’s Very Good?

A.J. McCarron SI CoverA.J. McCarron is quarterback for Alabama. Alabama is a superb staff. This has seen him thrust into the Heisman highlight. Now Sports activities Illustrated appears to be asking whether or not he’s among the many best of all time. It’s time to quiet down with a healthy draft of perspective.

A.J. McCarron’s manufacturing has not been extraordinary. McCarron has posted some wonderful numbers for his career. He completes sixty seven-sixty eight % of his passes. He has thrown sixty seven touchdowns to 13 interceptions in 37 begins. In 2012, he finished first nationally in passer rating and third in yards/try. These numbers impress, but ought to be qualified.

We credit score agency over structure for quarterbacks. McCarron has played his whole profession with first spherical linemen, first spherical ability players and gamers who might be first spherical picks. His coordinator, Doug Nussmeier, is among the many sport’s finest. Those factors didn’t make A.J. McCarron, but they impacted his improvement. Give him Logan Thomas’ surroundings (new line, all new running backs and huge receivers for 2 years working) the past couple years and he appears so much different.

ASSOCIATED: Katherine Webb And Dee Dee Bonner Watched A.J. McCarron Beat LSU

McCarron’s numbers don’t blow away his friends. He’s about on par with every high-tier potential NFL quarterback prospect. He has never been the standout quarterback in his convention and even his division. Johnny Manziel won the 2012 Heisman and is having a greater 2013. One can make a case for Zach Mettenberger having a strong 12 months this yr, as well as Tyler Wilson in 2011.

He has additionally been touchable at times. His numbers, as one would anticipate, dip towards Prime 25 defenses. Alabama has confronted one of those this season, Virginia Tech. McCarron completed 10/23, averaged 4.eight YPA and had a 1-1 TD-INT ratio. See LSU games in previous seasons.

Nick Saban and AJ McCarron are so cute together

Profitable is the one factor, nevertheless it’s overrated. McCarron supporters concede the purpose about his numbers, but argue it ought to be trumped by how a lot he has received. McCarron has a 35-2 file as a starter. He may win his third-straight national championship tshis season. That makes him accomplished, however not necessarily nice. Even if you happen to move past the tens of different guys contributing to crew wins…

Faculty soccer is structured to make every main program appear to be it is successful. Non-convention schedules are assured wins. Even convention schedules have change into watered down. Alabama is 10-zero. They have performed one sport against a team that was a single-digit underdog, Texas A&M. Alabama played three groups that belonged on the identical subject in 2012, Georgia, LSU and Texas A&M. They played one in 2011, LSU. McCarron went four-2 in these games.

ASSOCIATED: 10 NFL Groups Will Be within the Marketplace for a Quarterback Early in the 2014 NFL Draft

McCarron does have the national championships. We call it that in college soccer to make it sound momentous and fuel TELEVISION rankings. But the sport, as constituted, is a reputation contest. Greater than half the FBS is precluded from the title earlier than enjoying a down. A workforce doesn’t must go undefeated (Alabama 2012) and even win its division (Alabama 2011). It doesn’t must fight its way by a playoff. You turn into a champion by being popular, having things kind out your means on the season’s finish and winning the best delayed exhibition sport. It’s a nice achievement. Let’s not equate it with Tremendous Bowl rings.

A.J. McCarron is a positive quarterback. It’s natural to view current historical occasions as more significant. Superlatives play properly when embracing debate. It appears like a slight, mentioning that A.J. McCarron is not among the best faculty quarterbacks you will ever see. It shouldn’t. McCarron has had a very good career. He’s been among the many Top 10-15 passers in the country his past two seasons. That has spurred Alabama’s recent run. Nick Saban is completely happy to have A.J. McCarron as his quarterback. So would just about every other coach within the nation. That’s reward enough for a gifted faculty soccer player.

Crosby, Pens take shutout vs. Ovi, Capitals

Penguins Shut Out Capitals

WASHINGTON – Even Sidney Crosby acknowledged his objective – and the lickety-cut up sequence of passes that led as much as it – was “fun” and “one of many nicer ones.”

Crosby delivered that spotlight-reel objective and an help to get the higher of a quiet Alex Ovechkin prior to now league MVPs’ first matchup as division rivals, and the Pittsburgh Penguins ended a 3-sport road dropping streak by beating the Washington Capitals four-zero on Wednesday night time.

Crosby’s one-timer from a tough angle whereas leaning on his left knee capped fairly a sequence of touches from Evgeni Malkin on the point to Chris Kunitz in the slot to James Neal slightly behind the online to Crosby in the left circle. When the puck flew previous goalie Braden Holtby with 29 seconds left within the third interval to make it 3-zero, Crosby raised his fists, threw his head again and set free a yell.

“It’s powerful to get these,” Crosby stated. “Groups know the place all people is on the ice. To get that many fast passes in – you enjoy these, because you do not see these too often. It is proper up there.”

Even Holtby sounded impressed afterward.

“For Crosby to one-time that one off his off-wing, put it the place he did – guys like which might be going to attain goals,” Holtby said, pursing his lips and shaking his head.

With Pittsburgh “smothering” Washington, as Penguins coach Dan Bylsma put it, Marc-Andre Fleury wanted to make only 18 saves for his second shutout this season and twenty fifth in the NHL.

“It was not our day at all – on power play, PK, 5-on-5,” said Ovechkin, who hit a publish early but in any other case was largely held in check. “That form of games happen.”

Pittsburgh wound up with forty pictures. Paul Martin, off a move from Crosby, and Beau Bennett, with an help from Malkin, scored lower than 5 half minutes aside to present Pittsburgh a 2-0 lead in a first interval it dominated. Neal tacked on the Penguins’ fourth goal 7:16 into the final interval.

The Penguins beat the Capitals for the fifth time in a row.

Washington had been playing its finest hockey of the season, going into Wednesday with three consecutive wins total, and six straight at dwelling.

Pittsburgh and Washington came in as the top two golf equipment in the new Metropolitan Division. The last time they played each other as members of the same division was 1993.

“It was a game you have been trying ahead to, a team that you simply want to beat,” Capitals coach Adam Oates mentioned. “A measuring stick.”

There was a time when Crosby and Ovechkin dominated the NHL – with their slick play on the ice and by drawing plenty of consideration off it – and their rivalry meant games between the Penguins and Capitals were should-see affairs. That included an exciting seven-recreation playoff sequence won by Pittsburgh in 2009, when each star scored eight targets.

Over the next few seasons, though, Crosby’s accidents and Ovechkin’s all of a sudden sporadic scoring diminished the attraction of the matchup.

Both appear to be again on the top of their powers: Ovechkin, who won his third Hart Trophy final season as NHL MVP, entered the day tied for the league lead with 17 goals, whereas 2007 MVP Crosby was tied for the points lead.

“There’s at all times these type of little matchups in the sport that as a participant you realize are there. That is simply sort of a pure factor occurring. You’re used to it. These ones, there’s a few more eyes on the video games,” said Crosby, who scored his eleventh purpose. “I do not suppose that is a nasty factor. I believe it brings out the perfect in everyone.”

Sport notes

Washington’s energy play entered the day ranked second in the NHL at 24 percent, however went zero for 3… The Capitals have been shut out twice of their past sixteen games after going with out a goal simply once final season… The Penguins gained all three games in opposition to the Capitals last season, Pittsburgh’s first sweep in opposition to Washington since 2006-07… Pittsburgh hasn’t dropped four consecutive highway video games since a skid from Dec. 29, 2009, to Jan. 3, 2010… Malkin began the game with a league-excessive 10 assists in November… Six of the teams’ previous eight video games in Washington had been decided by one purpose.

NCAA Prediction College Football Week 13 Thursday Night Game Preview/Pick- Rutgers vs. #18 UCF

Prediction and free pick for Thursday night game Rutgers vs UCF

Rutgers Scarlet Knights (5-4) @ #18 UCF Knights (8-1) 11/21- 7:30PM EST

Line: UCF -17.5

Over/Under: 58.0

No. 18 ranked UCF will be looking to improve upon their performance from last week as they will try to remain atop the American Athletic Conference and keep their BCS bowl hopes alive when they host Rutgers on Thursday night.

UCF (8-1, 5-0 AAC) had to rally from seven points behind last week against last place Temple and pull out a 39-36 victory with a 23-yard field goal as time expired.

It was a good win in a tough situation. When we had the opportunity to make plays, we made them. That was the difference in the game,” UCF coach George O’Leary said.
With the Knights at 5-0 in the AAC, they still have games with Louisville and Cincinnati, both 5-1 chasing them.

O’Leary on last week’s disappointing performance….

We’ve got to play better than that if we’re going to continue to win. We’ve just got to play a team game. Offense and defense have to compliment each other. That didn’t happen.

We were very fortunate to come out with a win. We looked like we were out of sync on defense. We weren’t making plays, and you can’t do that. We’ve got to get that fixed before Thursday.”

UCF quarterback Blake Bortles passed for a career-best 404 yards and four touchdowns leading the offense to a season-high 657 yards against Temple.

However, the Knight’s defense gave up a season-high 518 yards to Temple, but they hope to get back defensive back Jacoby Glenn (ankle) and defensive end Miles Pace (appendectomy) on the field again.

Hopefully we get a couple of the starters back that didn’t play against Temple,” O’Leary said. ‘We’ve got to put a lot work in two days of practice. We’ve got to be resilient and move on.”

Rutgers (5-4, 2-3 AAC) will try to derail the Knights and become bowl-eligible for the eight time in nine seasons at the same time on Thursday night, but have struggled defensively giving up 600 yards in two of its last three games.

The Scarlet Knights are dealing with some turmoil this season as freshman defensive back Jevon Tyree left the team last week after accusing defensive coordinator Dave Cohen of verbal abuse and a physical threat during a study hall session in the spring.

According to Rutgers University, it said that Cohen was reprimanded by coach Kyle Flood and has since apologized.

Coach Flood, however says he doesn’t think the current allegations are affecting the team.

I have seen nothing but a spirited football team with a lot of energy that’s getting ready to play an excellent football team in UCF, he said. “I think the players and the coaches are focused.”

With UCF going in as (minus) -17.5 and at home, the odds are stacked in their favor to come away with a win Thursday night. Be sure to check the latest odds here at Wonder Punter up until kick off as the line spread may change.

I do expect a better all-around performance from the Knights and predict an easy victory over the Scarlet Knights.

4 Carolina Panthers (7-3 LW: 6)- Beating quality teams now and only getting better.

21 Buffalo Bills (4-7 LW: 27)- Winnable games coming up against the Bucs, Falcons, Jags and Dolphins… Wildcard? hmmm maybe.

22 Baltimore Ravens (4-6 LW: 19)- Failing to score on first-and-goal at the Chicago 5-yard line. Story of the year for the offense.

23 St Louis Rams (4-6 LW 20)- In a division with Seattle and San Francisco… it’s tough.

24 New York Giants (4-6 LW: 26)- Four wins in a row now with Dallas coming up.

25 Oakland Raiders (4-6 LW: 24)- Is Matt McGloin the answer at quarterback?

26 Tennessee Titans (4-6 LW: 22)- How big do the losses to the Jags and Colts look now in an AFC race that’s up for grabs.

27 Washington Redskins (3-7 LW: 23)- So much for running the tables like last year.

28 Houston Texans (2-8 LW: 28)- Still playing hard… that’s all you could ask for at this point.

29 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-8 LW: 31) Two in a row… and they had some winnable games throughout the season.

30. Atlanta Falcons (2-8 LW: 29)- Unlike the Texans, this is a football that has quit on everybody. Embarrassing!

31 Minnesota Vikings (2-8 LW: 30)- Playing for a quarterback in next year’s draft.

32 Jacksonville Jaguars (1-9 LW 32)- It was fun while it lasted.

Hawks Hand Knicks Fifth Straight Residence Loss

Hawks Hand Knicks Fifth Straight Residence Loss

NEW YORK – Following the New York Knicks’ fifth straight loss at Madison Sq. Backyard, a disgusted Carmelo Anthony said it looked as if the crew wasn’t even making an attempt in a 110-90 loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony was perplexed to describe the Knicks’ latest loss Saturday night time.

“We ain’t taking part in worth a s- right now,” Anthony stated. “We acquired to play harder.

“I am upset too in all of our effort. We are simply not getting it carried out. It ain’t nothing that Coach [Mike] Woodson is doing [or not doing]. It ain’t got nothing to do with X’s and O’s out there on the basketball courtroom. We are not getting it completed from an effort standpoint. It’s like we are not even attempting proper now.”

Although Anthony says Woodson is not to blame, Knicks fans nonetheless briefly chanted “Hearth Woodson” within the third quarter.

The house followers have not had a lot to cheer for thus far this season. The Knicks (3-6) haven’t received at the Garden since their ninety-83 season-opening victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Oct. 30. They’ve lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Charlotte Bobcats, San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets and Atlanta at residence.

In the course of the loss to Minnesota, the Knicks surrendered 40 points within the first quarter. In a a hundred and twenty-89 loss to the Spurs last Sunday, they trailed 21-four in the first quarter and fell behind by as many as 37.

Towards the Hawks (6-four), the Knicks were inside five (84-seventy nine) with eight:39 remaining before permitting a 14-2 run during which Atlanta scored on three layups and a dunk.

“You’re not going to beat anyone taking part in gentle and not hard like we did,” Woodson said. “They played extraordinarily extremely onerous tonight and we just did not compete with them.”

Woodson mentioned he may tinker together with his lineup once more. The Hawks shot 56.4 % from the field in opposition to a Knicks protection minus the injured Tyson Chandler, who’s out for no less than a month with a fractured leg.

The players spoke afterward within the locker room.

J.R. Smith – after a three-for-18 night from the ground that saw him miss eight-of-9 3-point tries – took among the blame.

“Excuse my language however I was playing like s-,” he said. “I performed horrible. I’ve been taking part in horrible since I obtained again and I wasn’t blissful about it.”

Anthony, who led the Knicks with 23 points and 12 rebounds, left the Garden baffled and indignant.

“You just got to do more I suppose,” Anthony said. “Simply try to go out there and get it performed as a team. I am not going to do it on my own. I do not want to do it by myself. We received to do it as a group. We preserve digging ourselves deeper and deeper.

“It is frustrating. Messed up feeling. Nasty feeling. I actually am kind of puzzled right now.”

NCAA Week 12 Game Recap- USC Upsets #4 Stanford

USC vs ´Stanford recap college football week 12

#4 Stanford Cardinal (8-2)- 17

USC Trojans (8-3)- 20

Line: STAN -4

Over/Under: 45

Wow, yet another upset in the BCS standings as unranked USC beats No. 4 Stanford at the Coliseum with an Andre Heidari 47-yard field goal with 19 clicks on the clock left to take down the Cardinal and ruin any chance for a possible BCS championship with a 20-17 upset.

To many it may be a major surprise, but those of us that follow West Coast football know that the Trojans have been playing great football since the firing of Lane Kiffin back in September and have responded well under interim coach Ed Orgeron who has them believing in themselves.

USC (8-3, 5-2 Pac-12) has now won five of their last six, but none bigger then Saturday night’s victory over a team that has owned them the last three trips to the Coliseum and four overall.

In our tight-knit family, there was a belief that we were going to find a way to win the game,” Orgeron said. “I’m proud our young men. This is something that they’ve wanted for a long time now.”

The Stanford Cardinal (8-2, 6-2), one week removed from last Thursday’s major upset of then No. 2 Oregon was only able to muster a season-low 17 points against a ‘bend but don’t’ break Trojan defense that accounted for two fourth quarter interceptions to help seal the upset.

USC junior kicker Heidari nearly lost his job twice this season, and he missed an extra point in the first quarter, but when it counted, he delivered the winning kick to spoil any title hopes the Cardinal may have had.

They all said, ‘We know you got this. You do it every day in practice,’” Heidari said of his teammates. “They believe in me.”

The Trojans came together on a night that before then was a question mark amid the last year of their NCAA sanctions with depleted scholarships and a program in search of the next head coach.

I don’t know if I pulled them together,” Orgeron said. “I think they just came together. The leadership of this program is really coming to the forefront.”

On the offensive side of the ball, Nelson Agholor had eight catches for 104 yards, while Marquis Lee had six catches for 83 yards. Quarterback Cody Kessler passed for 288 yards and 1 touchdown and has really come into his own this season.

As for Stanford, star running back Tyler Gaffney did his part by rushing for 158 yards and two touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough as the Cardinal could not regain the lead after trailing 17-10 at halftime.

I think this it the first time anyone on the team has lost to them,” Gaffney said. “It’s a tough thing to swallow.”

They’re a good team, and they got healthy at the wrong time for us, Stanford coach David Shaw said. “In the second half, we did a heck of a job defensively. We just didn’t make enough plays on offensively. That’s not going to win on the road in this conference.”

With each big victory, USC interim coach Ed Orgeron is making himself a stronger candidate for the vacant Trojan head coach position.

Obviously, there is going to be some decisions here after we play UCLA (on Nov. 30),” Oregeron said. “That’s out of my hands.”

Hugh win for a proud storied football program looking to get back on top.

NFL Prediction Week 11 Game Preview/Pick- 49ers vs. Saints

49ers vs Saints Prediction and Pick

San Francisco 49ers (6-3) @ New Orleans Saints (7-2) 11/17- 4:25PM EST

Line: NO -3.0

Over/Under: 47.5

Making their first trip to the Big Easy since this year’s Super Bowl loss, the San Francisco 49ers will have yet another challenge to face when they must find a way to slow down the New Orleans Saints… a team that thrives under the Superdome lights in an NFC showdown Sunday afternoon.

New Orleans (7-2) has been dominating this year at home, outscoring their opponents 176-75 while going undefeated at 5-0 and looking to stay ahead in the NFC South over the hot Carolina Panthers.

In what will be another measuring stick for both teams, the 49ers (6-3) will be trying to avoid back-to-back defeats after dropping a tough 10-9 home loss to the Panthers last Sunday at Candlestick.

We’ve got a tough game coming up, and we’re not going to wallow in (the loss to Carolina),” 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said. “We’re going to move to New Orleans.”

New Orleans will be looking to win yet another home game after last weeks thrashing of the Dallas Cowboys on national television where they accumulated a regular season team-record 625 yards and recorded an NFL-record 40 first downs against the Dallas defense.

You don’t play many games like that, and every once in a while you find yourself on the good end and sometimes you find yourself once in a while on the bad end,” New Orleans coach Sean Payton said. “You hope when your career is done you have more experiences on the good end.”

The Saints also found some balance against the Cowboys on the offensive side of the ball where Drew Bress passed for 392 yards and the running game came up big with 242 yards after going in averaging only 79.8 yards per contest.

It’s important for us to have that balance,” Payton said.

Bress is on fire at home where he has completed 74.4 percent of his passes and averaged 367.2 yards passing while tossing 18 touchdowns and only two interceptions… none in the last three home games.

If not that wasn’t enough, the Saints average 463.6 yards and 35.2 points per game at the Dome, but San Francisco’s defense ranks fourth in the league allowing only 17.2 points per game, so something as to give.

And, it’s that 49ers defense that the oddsmakers are banking on making the Saints only slight favorites with only a (minus) -3.0 in the latest line spread, but as always, Wonder Punter will provide the latest odds up until kickoff, so check back often.

With last weeks loss still fresh in their minds, San Francisco must focus their attention on the offensive side of the ball where the Saints defense is allowing only 18.1 points.

After averaging 34.8 points a game during their five-game win streak and 357.6 yards, the Niners could only put together 9 points on 151 yards total against the Panthers.
The way we look at it as a unit. Offensively, we didn’t play well enough to win the game,” Harbaugh said. “Across the board, we take accountability for that and have fingerprints on it. I’m not going to go through and dissect position by position, raking anybody over the coals. I don’t think that’s the best thing for us.”

Coach Harbaugh added… “I think their mindset will be what it’s always been, it’s a blue-collar mindset. That involves fixing things, building things, sutures in our hands and the weapons are in our hands, our fate is in our hands.”

With Mario Manningham making his season debut last week, he will provide an added boost to an offensive looking to get back on track.

Tight end Vernon Davis is questionable for Sunday after suffering a concussion against the Panthers and receiver Michael Crabtree is an outside shot for his season debut following his Achilles injury in May.

San Francisco has won two straight over the Saints, but come Sunday and the way the New Orleans plays at home, I would be hard-pressed not to go with the Saints as my favorite.

PICK: New Orleans

NCAA Prediction College Football Week 12 Preview/Pick- #12 Oklahoma St. vs. #24 Texas

Free Pick and Prediction for the Oklahoma St Cowboys vs Texas Longhorns

#12 Oklahoma State Cowboys (8-1) @ #24 Texas Longhorns (7-2) 11/16- 3:30 PM EST

Line: OKST -3.0

Over/Under: 63.5

With a possible Big 12 championship at stake on Saturday afternoon, the high-riding No. 12 Oklahoma State Cowboys will travel into Austin and take on a Texas Longhorn team riddled by injuries and holding onto first place by one-half game over No. 4 Baylor and one ahead of the Cowboys.

Texas (7-2, 6-0) in last week’s win at West Virginia 47-40 in overtime suffered two major injuries… running back Jonathan Gray (torn Achilles tendon) and defensive tackle Chris Whaley (left knee), both out for the season. They also lost Jordan Hicks (torn ACL) and quarterback David Ash (concussion) earlier in the year as well.

Malcolm Brown will likely get the bulk of running the ball with Gray out and will go against a Cowboy’s defense that is down against the run allowing 150.0 yards per game during their winning streak. Brown has rushed for 379 yards and seven touchdowns in his last four games.

But despite the injuries, the Longhorns have won six straight and if they can survive a tough Oklahoma State team on Saturday, they must deal with Texas Tech and No. 4 Baylor in the season finale.

We’ve gone through this on both sides of the ball with David and Jordan Hicks,” junior center Dominic Espinosa said. “Those were two guys that were big leaders in the beginning of the season, and now something similar is happening with Chris Whaley and Jonathan Gray.

So now we’re ready to step up and fill their shoes in leadership roles.”

Oklahoma State could care less as they are vying for their second Big 12 title in three years, but also will have their hands full with Baylor and 22nd ranked Oklahoma still to contend with at season’s end.

We got these three games and we control our own fate,” senior guard Brandon Webb said. “If we win out, we do what we want to do and we’ll have leave it up to the BCS Poll after that, but right now, we’re going for the Big 12 championship and so are these next three teams in front of us, so we just got to prepare.”

With the Cowboys riding a five-game win streak and on the road, the oddsmakers have still made them the favorites with a (minus) -3.0 over the Longhorns, but with lines changing daily, secure your bets with us here at Wonder Punter up until game time.

You’re at a point in the season where you need to win one to get to the next one if you want to stay in that race,” OKST Mike Gundy said. “If we wouldn’t have played well and beat Kansas, it wouldn’t have been a big game. But you have to continue to move forward and this will be a new challenge for us.

(Texas) is a very talented football team, we’re playing on the road, so we’ve got our work cut out for us.”

That they do as the Longhorns have won 23 of 27 all-time meetings against Oklahoma State, but the Cowboys have won the last two visits, including 38-26 on October 15, 2011.

The Cowboys have improved and played extremely well under quarterback Clint Chelf (six TDs, 190 yards rushing, two scores) the past three games replacing an ineffective J.T. Walsh and running back Desmond Roland has a team-high 12 touchdowns over the last month.

I agree with the oddsmakers and predict the Cowboys going into Austin and winning their third straight game there as they have just beat up on the competition of late and can put some points on the board.

NCAA College Football Pick – Georgia Tech vs. #8 Clemson

NCAA Prediction College Football Week 12 Thursday Game Preview & Pick- Georgia Tech vs. #8 Clemson

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (6-3) @ Clemson Tigers (8-1) 11/14- 7:30PM EST

Line: CLEM -10.5

Over/Under: 57.5

On Thursday night, the No. 8 Clemson Tigers, coming off their bye-week will look to stay on track in the BCS race against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in another Atlantic Coast Conference match-up on prime-time here is my prediction and pick for this game.

The Clemson Tigers (8-1, 6-1 ACC) hope to pick up where they left off before their week off when they defeated Virginia in a rout 59-10 on Nov. 2nd and have won their last two since their week 8 loss to No. 2 Florida State.

The guys deserve all the credit because they have gotten themselves ready and found ways to win games,” Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said. “This is the most complete game that we had. This team will be judged based on how we finish, but we had a good start to November.”

Clemson wide-out Sammy Watkins has been on fire the last two games with 22 catches for 332 yards in the last two games making quarterback Tajh Boyd’s job look easy.

When you have a guy like him with space, he’s going to have an opportunity to make plays,” Boyd said of Watkins. “Sammy did an unbelievable job. You kind of just got to throw your arm up and he will have a chance to get the ball.”

Fully verified Winning betting system, since 1999  Vip picks

The combination of Boyd and Watkins has helped the Tigers average 39.8 points a game to rank 15th in the FBS and in their last two games have out-gained Maryland and Virginia 1,150-641 in total offense.

That’s what we plan on doing, keep finishing and staying healthy,” Watkins said. “We need to go out with a bang and have fun. This is what it is all about here in November. You got to show everyone that you’re a top 10 team now and not just in September.”

With the way the Tigers have been playing since their lone defeat to Florida State, Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson knows he will have his hands full with Clemson.

It’s certainly going to be a big challenge on Thursday night,” said Johnson. “Clemson is a tough place to play and they’ve got a lot of explosive athletes. .. We look at it as an opportunity to go in and measure ourselves as a team and see if we’ve made the progress we feel we’ve made in the past couple of weeks.”

The Tigers may be going in as the favorite with a (minus) -10.5 at home, but Georgia Tech has some offensive fire-power of their own with a bruising running game that averages 311.2 yards out of the triple option.

They also have a defense that allows only 103.4 rushing yards against… good for 10th in all of college football.

The Yellow Jackets (6-3, 5-2 ACC) with a win on Thursday can clinch at least a share of the Coastal Division title but it hasn’t been easy as Georgia Tech has followed a three-game losing streak with three straight wins, outscoring opponents 112-35 in that span.

We’re a team that’s fairly physical. We run the ball pretty good an defend the run pretty good,” Johnson said. “When we do the things that we do well and take care of the ball, we could be a tough out.”

Thursday night’s game will be well played, but the spread dictates the failures of Georgia Tech to beat a Top 25 team, where they have lost seven in a row and the Tigers have beaten unranked opponents 26 consecutive times at home by an average of 23.6 points.

It seems like a safe bet on Clemson come Thursday night, but feel free to check the latest lines here at Wonder Punter up until game time.

PICK: Clemson

Incognito Says Martin Sent Him Text

Tradition Corrupt In Miami

Richie Incognito spoke in-depth for the primary time since his indefinite suspension, describing the Miami Dolphins’ locker-room environment as a place where threats and racial slurs have been considered acceptable and jovial conduct.

Incognito deflected blame for a lot of of his harsh actions towards teammate Jonathan Martin throughout an interview with Fox Sports.

IncognitoEvery week before this went down, Jonathan Martin texted me on my cellphone, ‘I will murder your complete F’ing household.’ Now, do I think Jonathan Martin was going to murder my family? Not one bit. He texted me that. I did not think he was going to kill my family. I knew that was coming from a brother. I knew it was coming from a good friend. I knew it was coming from a teammate.

- Richie Incognito, during interview with Fox Sports activities

Incognito additionally accused Martin of utilizing equally crass language, claiming that was the character of their relationship.

“When phrases are put in a context, I perceive why numerous eyebrows get raised,” Incognito told Fox Sports activities during the interview, which aired Sunday. “But folks don’t understand how Jon and I communicate to one one other. As an illustration, a week before this went down, Jonathan Martin texted me on my telephone, ‘I’ll homicide your whole f– household.’

“Now, do I think Jonathan Martin was going to murder my family? Not one bit. He texted me that. I did not suppose he was going to kill my household. I knew that was coming from a brother. I knew it was coming from a buddy. I knew it was coming from a teammate.”

Martin’s lawyer, David Cornwell, responded to Incognito’s claim by way of Twitter on Sunday. The tweet said “Jmart’s textual content 2 Richie Incognito. U decide” followed by an image of a woman holding a dog from a comedy website with the words embedded within the picture, “I will murder your complete f– family.”

Incognito, meanwhile, staunchly denied bullying Martin and claimed to be Martin’s most supportive teammate. Incognito said he was genuinely shocked that Martin left the workforce and it became a national media firestorm.

“You can ask anybody in the Miami Dolphins’ locker room who had Jon Martin’s again the absolute most, and they will undoubtedly let you know [it was me],” Incognito said. “Jon by no means showed indicators that football was attending to him [or] the locker room was attending to him.”

Regardless of the scathing language, Incognito mentioned his actions “came from a spot of affection” and that vulgar communication was regular among Dolphins players.

“It is thrown around a lot,” Incognito informed Fox Sports activities. “It’s a word that I’ve heard Jon use loads. It is not saying it’s proper that I did it and used it in a voice mail. Nevertheless it’s plenty of colourful words which might be being thrown round in a locker room that we do not use in on a regular basis life.”

The NFL is investigating the troubled relationship between Incognito and Martin, who left the Dolphins two weeks in the past because of emotional issues stemming from alleged harassment and misconduct.

“All these things popping out, it speaks to the tradition of our locker room, it speaks to culture of our closeness, it speaks to the culture of our brotherhood,” Incognito stated. “And the racism, the dangerous phrases, that is what I regret most. However that is a product of the setting.”

Martin left the Dolphins on Oct. 28 following an incident within the crew’s lunchroom. Nevertheless, Incognito said Sunday that he and Martin exchanged textual content messages four days later.
