If there are rumors about a coach getting traded – as is the case with Jim Harbaugh – there are certain to be rumors about mentioned coach's gamers being unhappy with stated coach. And on this case, there are!

Ann Killion of the San Francisco Chronicle reviews (via PFT) that Harbaugh's "act has worn thin" among a number of members of the locker room.

"One source with inside knowledge of the team says that Harbaugh's act has worn thin within the locker room, particularly amongst some key 'face of the 49ers' sort players," Killion writes. "While the group is winning, that is not a problem. However a number of losses might expose a widening rift."

Ought to we be stunned by this? No, not really. For starters, if you've received the smoke of the trade rumors with the Browns popping up around the combine, you're going to get the fire that is rumors about 49ers gamers being sad. It comes with the territory.

And secondly, it's exhausting to think about that Harbaugh's act does not wear thin on a few of the players in the locker room.

However you know what doesn't wear skinny? Profitable. And beneath Harbaugh the Niners win like crazy. They're 36-11-1 in his three seasons teaching in San Francisco, good for a whopping766 winning proportion.

The 49ers have been to 3-straight NFC Championship games, they're about to open up a brand new stadium in Santa Clara and so they'll host Super Bowl L after the 2015 season in that very stadium.

There's plenty of explanation why they should desire a coach who does nothing however win to stay round regardless of how people within the locker room may reportedly really feel.

Last Saturday, Ric Flair made a surprise appearance at the 49ers’ hotel ahead of their wild-card matchup with the Packers. Not only did we get to see vintage Nature Boy but 49ers tackle Anthony Davis even managed to sneak in a shot at Appleton, Wisc.

But Panthers wideout Steve Smith was unimpressed by Flair, who is extremely popular in the Carolinas, and his decision to give the 49ers a pre-game pep talk.

“As a guy who actually has a Ric Flair robe I’m real disappointed in seeing that, ” Smith told theCharlotte Observer.

“Real disappointed. I’m not sure if he’ll (Flair) get the invite here. That Golden Gate Bridge has been burned. ”

It gets worse. Via Flair’s representatives (by way of Sporting News):

A long time Carolina Panthers fan, Ric Flair created quite the stir when WWE sent him to Green Bay, WI January 5th to give the San Francisco 49ers an unexpected locker room pep talk. WWE is hosting WrestleMania XXXI in SanFrancisco in 2015. Now many are asking: Will Flair attend the January 12th playoff game in Carolina as they host San Francisco? And if so, which team will he support?
“When the 49ers reached out and WWE asked Ric to jet up there, of course he said yes, ” says Melinda Morris Zanoni, Flair’s agent at Legacy Talent and Entertainment, “and he’s friends with a bunch of the 49ers just like he is with the Panthers, Packers, and many other NFL players. As for whether Flair’s trademark “WOOOO” will be banned from the Panthers sideline, Smith said “We’ll discuss it. We’ll have to have an executive meeting. ”

Meanwhile, cornerback Captain Munnerlyn was slightly more practical about the whole thing.

“It’s not about Ric Flair, it’s not about wrestling, ” he said. “It’s about playing football Sunday at 1: 05. ”

Underdog Panthers say pressure’s on 49ers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Regardless of a ten-9 victory at Candlestick Park in November and a seven-game winning streak at dwelling, the Carolina Panthers are early underdogs for Sunday's playoff sport towards the San Francisco 49ers.

And that's all proper with Panthers coach Ron Rivera.

Rivera Being the underdog I suppose takes pressure off [us] and places strain on them. Now they have expectations for them. However we're at residence. We'll come out, present up and do the perfect we are able to.

- Ron Rivera

"Being the underdog I assume takes strain off [us] and puts pressure on them,'' Rivera stated Monday. "Now they have expectations for them. However we're at house. We're going to come out, present up and do the very best we will.

"It's a massive week. We know it is. We're going to present up on Sunday and we'll play. It'll be lots of fun.''

The game opened as a choose 'em, but early action on San Francisco made the 49ers a one-point favorite.

San Francisco was a six-level favorite on Nov. 10 when the Panthers beat the 49ers for his or her fifth straight win of what could be an eight-sport winning streak.

However because the 49ers went on the highway and beat Green Bay 23-20 on Sunday, and because they have extra playoff experience as the reigning NFC champions, Carolina has been cast as an underdog past the point unfold.

That the 49ers have vast receiver Michael Crabtree, who caught eight passes for 125 yards towards Green Bay, for this Carolina recreation after they didn't the first time is also a factor.

"After you take a look at what happened last night time, you look at Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers, all the pieces occurring there, you perceive it,'' stated Panthers receiver Steve Smith, expected to return from a knee damage. "You do not really take it as a shot at us. You just look at it as that is just how things go.

"But at the end of the day, the game is performed on the sector, not within the media room, not on video games. It is performed with actual males between the white strains.''

Rivera said the Panthers will method the 49ers like every other opponent during a stretch of 11 wins prior to now 12 video games, each with playoff implications.

"We've played a whole lot of big video games this year,'' he said. "We have won plenty of big video games within the fourth quarter as well. To me, it's concerning the game. You play the game.

"We played Sunday night, we played Monday night, we played towards the 49ers, we performed in opposition to New England, we needed to come again in a win in opposition to Miami, we needed to play the Saints at home for the division lead, we needed to beat Atlanta to win the division. So we've played a whole lot of huge games, too.''

The Panthers sacked San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick six occasions, held him to 16 yards dashing and 91 yards passing within the first recreation.

Rivera doesn't anticipate Kaepernick, who rushed for 98 yards and handed for 227 yards towards Green Bay, to struggle that much towards the league's No. 2-ranked protection this time.

"We had been fortunate,'' Rivera stated. "We were able to do some things and make it tough on him. I do not count on that this time. All you must do is watch him down the stretch. We caught them on the proper time, and it turned out to our benefit.''

Asked what he meant by the correct time, Rivera mentioned, "Once we beat them, [Kaepernick] didn't play nicely. That is mainly it. I don't count on that once more. I expect the young man to come out and play effectively. He's a very good football participant. He confirmed it last night time.''

Rivera may be anxious about Kaepernick, but he is not fearful about Carolina's lack of playoff expertise being a factor.

"It solely issues, in all honesty, when individuals carry it up and want to talk about it and need to make more about it than it is,'' he mentioned. "This is a crucial recreation. We all know it is a very important football sport.

"However it's no more necessary than those we've needed to play all year. We have had to play video games and we have needed to win them.''

Chiefs, 49ers lead Pro Bowl roster selections

HONOLULU – Kansas City and San Francisco may have plenty of clout in Honolulu if they don't make it to New Jersey for the Tremendous Bowl.

The NFL revealed Friday that the Chiefs and 49ers each had eight gamers voted into the Professional Bowl, including running backs Jamaal Charles of Kansas City and Frank Gore of San Francisco.

Denver quarterback Peyton Manning was chosen to his thirteenth Pro Bowl after receiving essentially the most votes amongst fans, 1.43 million. New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees was second amongst followers with 1.2 million votes.

The NFL mixed votes from fans, gamers and coaches to find out eighty five of 87 Professional Bowl players; the other two gamers are lengthy-snappers selected by Professional Bowl coaches. While there have been 86 Pro Bowl spots to be voted on, there are 85 gamers as a result of Steelers vast receiver/kick returner Antonio Brown stuffed two spots. Voting ended Thursday.

Underneath a brand new format this yr, NFL greats Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders will divvy up the players in a two-day draft earlier than the Jan. 26 recreation. Offensive and defensive players with the most votes who do not make it past the divisional playoff round will function energetic player captains.

Charles said Friday evening on a reveal present on the NFL Community that he needs to be picked first.

"I believe I obtained the most effective skillset of anybody on the roster," Charles said. "I feel I can play vast receiver after which put the ball in my hand, additionally. The one thing I can not do is throw the ball."

Carolina linebacker Luke Kuechly stated he'll be wonderful wherever he is picked.

"I do not know, you got to get the man who scores points," he mentioned.

The schoolyard-model selections imply it is seemingly teammates will be pressured to play on opposite sides. Players on the successful staff will earn $fifty three,000 whereas the losers will get $26,000 beneath the collective bargaining settlement.

San Francisco linebacker NaVorro Bowman stated he thinks it would be weird to have to tackle Gore or Pro Bowl tight end Vernon Davis.

"I won't deal with him," Bowman mentioned. "Simply let him rating and get his yards or whatever. Yeah, that'd be weird as a result of that hasn't occurred since training camp."

Rice and Sanders playfully bantered about potential picks, with Sanders saying he needed players on his roster who haven't been to many Professional Bowls.

"When you have five years or extra, do not even worry about it I'm not going to choose you," Sanders said. "Go play for Jerry."

Rice mentioned later: "You're attempting to bait me – that's not going to occur."

Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman received 552,600 votes by followers, probably the most for any defensive participant. Houston defensive end J.J. Watt had slightly below 410,000 fan votes.

San Francisco is ready to send eight gamers to the sport for the second year in a row, although its players missed the game earlier this 12 months because they made the Super Bowl, losing to Baltimore.

Kansas Metropolis's eight choices are up from six final 12 months. The Chiefs are eleven-four this yr – up from 2-14 final 12 months – and the No. 5 seed within the AFC playoffs heading right into a largely meaningless game for them in opposition to San Diego on Sunday.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid mentioned Friday he has by no means been large on Pro Bowl selections.

"I'm comfortable for the blokes when and in the event that they make it. I am happy with them for it," Reid stated. "But we don't get caught up in the entire individual accolades. (We're) just getting ourselves able to play."

49ers avoid trap and cruise again

San FranAl Messerschmidt/Getty PhotographsKendall Hunter and the 49ers cleared the hurdle posed by Tampa Bay to win their fourth in a row.

TAMPA, Fla. – If they didn’t already have enough warning signs, the

San Francisco 49ers

had another reason to be leery the night before they boarded their cross-country journey when the

Denver Broncos

, arguably the most effective team in soccer, stumbled at residence to the lesser

San Diego Chargers

“Completely,” 49ers left deal with Joe Staley. “It’s the NFL. Anybody can lose.”

But what has been taking place when the 49ers play a group with a less-than-stellar file? They dominate. It occurred again Sunday because the 49ers dispatched the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 33-14. San Francisco is now 7-0 against groups with a dropping report. None of the games has been close.

Jim Harbaugh’s team does not fall for traps.

“We don’t let down,” San Francisco fullback Bruce Miller stated flatly after the sport.

And there was no larger likelihood of a letdown for the 49ers than Sunday in Tampa Bay. This had all of the appearances of a stumble sport.

They have been coming off their greatest victory of the season, a last-second house win over heated rival Seattle. They had to make a 5-plus-hour flight from California to Florida to play a workforce with a dropping report. It was their first true early game the season. (San Francisco played Jacksonville in London in Week 8, but the 49ers were in England all week, so their physique clocks had adjusted to the time change.)

Throw in the fact that Harbaugh’s name was connected to the job opening at College of Texas, and there were sufficient distractions to make this recreation significantly scary for San Francisco. However the 49ers saved on cruising.

“We knew if we laid an egg immediately,” middle Jonathan Goodwin said, “the Seattle recreation wouldn’t have meant something.”

The 49ers are now 10-four. They have won four video games in a row, a formidable response to a two-recreation November skid by which they lost to Carolina and New Orleans by a complete of four points. That stumble had ended a 5-sport win streak.

Now, the 49ers are hot once once more and can clinch a playoff bid subsequent week.

The 49ers are in place to make the playoffs as a result of they do what good groups are speculated to do – they beat up on unhealthy groups. It’s been a theme all season. Harbaugh and his employees do a masterful job of retaining the players focused. They had the 49ers considering the Jaguars were 7-zero as a substitute of zero-7 when the groups met in London. This week, the mind sport was an easy sell. The Buccaneers got here into the sport enjoying well, having won four of their previous five games after beginning the season 0-8.

Nevertheless, the end end result was the identical. The 49ers averted what could have been an inexcusable loss by merely being better than their opponent. They are now 9-1 in video games that begin at 10 a.m. PT below Harbaugh. They are, by far, the best West Coast staff in the NFL when it comes to playing throughout the nation.

It’s the mindset that Harbaugh brings. He doesn’t let his guys slip mentally. There was no chance he was going to permit the Texas discuss to have an effect on his team. It wasn’t talked about, and don’t expect it to be. Harbaugh has no intention of leaving. All expectations level to him and the group agreeing on a contract extension (his current deal ends after the 2015 season) to make him one of the richest coaches within the NFL.

Sunday was one other reminder why he’s definitely worth the cash.

The 49ers got here out prepared for enterprise. They introduced their presence early, leaping to a 7-zero lead and forcing two three-and-outs on protection.

“That was essential,” said San Francisco cross-rusher Aldon Smith, who had two sacks.”It set the tone for the remainder of the day.”

The game did get shut for a bit when the Buccaneers scored a touchdown to make it 20-14 with 14:fifty four to go. But the 49ers, once once more, enforced their will. They launched into a 17-play drive, culminating in a discipline aim, that lopped greater than 10 minutes off the clock. They then added extra 10 more factors in the next two minutes to take any intrigue out of it.

“It’s an indication of a disciplined staff,” Staley mentioned. “We buckled down when we needed to.”

The 49ers dominated on either side of the ball. Offensively, as common, San Francisco was not excellent. It had to settle for four discipline targets for the second straight sport, and one of many crew’s three touchdowns came on a particular teams. The 49ers should discover a way to end more drives within the crimson zone.

However, they moved the ball effectively and continued to reap the benefits of receiver Michael Crabtree being on the sphere. His presence continues to help quarterback Colin Kaepernick, receiver Anquan Boldin and tight end Vernon Davis. Together with Crabtree, all of them had strong video games.

Kaepernick used his mobility and had huge success outdoors the pocket. Harbaugh mentioned his quarterback “had a monster sport.” In line with ESPN Stats & Info, Kaepernick had maybe his best game of the season when facing an ordinary four-man rush. His season completion proportion coming into the game against that alignment was 58.7. Sunday, it was seventy one.4.

The 49ers dominated on the ground as standard, gaining 187 yards on 40 carries.

And it was merely one other good defensive effort. The Buccaneers were averaging less than a yard per play for many of the first half. The 49ers’ protection allowed the Buccaneers to transform on third down once in 10 tries.

The 49ers now flip their attention to what will likely be an emotional Week 16. They host Atlanta subsequent Monday night time within the final game at Candlestick Park. Will probably be a storyline all week, culminating in lots of tributes.

But when we know anything about Harbaugh’s group, they won’t affected by the scene.

49ers long snapper’s centenarian grandma is a boss

Epic — there actually isn't any other phrase to explain it. That is quite possibly the best Tweet ever produced by an NFL long snapper — I wonder if anybody has a stat for that? Definitely must check extra lengthy snapper accounts after seeing this.

San Francisco 49ers’ long snapper Kevin McDermott posted this picture of his one hundred-yr outdated grandma smoking a stogie and holding a bottle of Fireball a couple days ago.

Grandma McDermott does certainly look like a boss. Properly performed. Could all of us be that stuffed with pep if and once we attain a century on Earth.

Apparently December 5th was her birthday and he or she was doing a little bit of celebrating, or so the photo suggests. On the very least she is a incredible sport.

Joyful belated birthday to Grandma Opal, and thanks for the legendary picture.

As for her grandson’s 49ers, they tackle the heated division rival Seahawks this Sunday. San Francisco has lost the previous two contests — each at CenturyLink Field in Seattle — by a mixed rating of seventy one-sixteen. This time the two square off in the second to final game at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, which is also the last place the 49ers beat the Seahawks — 13-8 — October 18th, 2012.

No phrase if grandma Opal will likely be in attendance to cheer on the 49ers as of but.

49ers’ Davis claims he was tackled by groin

Davis Says He Was Tackled By Groin

San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis claims that St. Louis Rams safety T.J. McDonald went below the belt to make a tackle Sunday and wouldn’t let go.

Vernon Davis

Vernon Davis hurdled over the Rams’ Rodney McLeod during the 49ers’ win Sunday.

“I’m still thinking about it. I can feel it,” Davis said after the 49ers’ 23-13 victory, according to the team’s website. “It was a crossing route. I made the play, and as soon as I got my hands on the ball, [McDonald] was grabbing me right there in that space, that area, and I kept telling him, ‘Let go, get off me, get off me,’ and he wouldn’t let me go.”

Davis also tweeted about the third-quarter play Monday, saying “it should be a league rule saying that a defender can not tackle a player by his penis,” calling it “the most painful thing ever!”

A protective cup may have helped Davis on Sunday, but apparently an overwhelming majority of NFL players don’t use one.

In a story published last December, The New York Times reported cups were rarely used at the highest levels of the sport. Several players interviewed reportedly cited the restrictive feeling that is associated with trying to run while wearing a cup.

The tackle came in a game in which Davis displayed his athleticism with a new move, and did so not once but twice: a high hurdle over defenders.

He led with his right foot while leaping over safety Rodney McLeod in the first half, then again to reach the end zone on his team-leading 10th touchdown catch on a 17-yard scoring play in the fourth quarter.

“It’s just instincts,” Davis said. “I said, ‘Look, I won’t be denied.'”

Davis’ 50th career touchdown catch moved him into fourth place in franchise history, behind Hall of Famer Jerry Rice (176), Terrell Owens (81) and Gene Washington (59).

Charlotte’s layup knocks off No. 14 Michigan

Charlotte Stuns Michigan

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The Charlotte 49ers came to Puerto Rico an afterthought in a tournament that featured two ranked teams and two more from power conferences.

They’re going home champions.

Terrence Williams put back his own miss with 0.4 seconds left, giving Charlotte a stunning win over No. 14 Michigan on Sunday in the final of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.

“That’s one of the most incredible basketball games I’ve ever been a part of,” Charlotte coach Alan Major said. “All three games in this tournament got sticky… The thing that’s been the thing that’s been the most encouraging and fun for me is watching them coming together down here and just trying to be a team.

“They deserve this,” Major said.

The title is the 49ers’ (5-1) second early-season tournament win in two seasons. They won the Great Alaska Shootout last season.

Michigan’s Mitch McGary tied it at 61 on a layup with 9 seconds left, but Charlotte quickly pushed the ball up the floor. Williams missed a layup but got his own rebound and scored.

“I just stayed with it so I could get an extra chance at the basket and I ended up making the shot,” Williams said. “There was no time to think I just had to react.”

Denzel Ingram had 12 points and Willie Clayton added 10 points and 15 rebounds to lead the 49ers. Pierria Henry chipped in 11 points. Charlotte’s Shawn Lester was named to the all-tournament team.

“We told them before the game, you belong in this game,” Major said. “You’ve earned your way into it. Whatever was lined up before, bracket-wise and who’s in it, you can’t control that. But you can control the way you play. You can control how close you are as a team. You can control your toughness.

“We just said before the game – it’s enough,” he added. “Don’t worry that you don’t have enough. If you rely on each other, you’ve got enough.”

Michigan overcame a 16-point deficit in Friday’s semifinal against Florida State to win in overtime. On Sunday it stayed in the game despite shooting just 31 percent for the game.

The Wolverines (4-2) also played most of the night without starting forward Glenn Robinson III, who logged only 9 minutes as he struggled with back problems.

The one player that was able to keep up the scoring load was Michigan’s Nik Stauskas, who was chosen the tournament’s most valuable player. He finished with 20 points, but played through an ankle injury over the final 9 minutes. Caris LeVert added 11 points.

“The injury was tough, especially defensively, because they noticed it real quick and whoever I was guarding just started running around a bunch of screens,” Stauskas said. “It was definitely difficult just to move around and put pressure on them. I was kind of limited.”

Charlotte held about a six-point cushion for most of the second half until Michigan took its first lead of the half – 47-46 – on a pair of free throws by LeVert with 6:12 remaining in the game.

But McGary, playing in his fourth game back from a back injury, was forced to the bench with his fourth foul at the 5:26 mark. The 49ers attacked, and immediately went on an 8-2 run to take back the advantage at 54-49.

McGary returned with the clock under three minutes, and cut the 49ers’ lead to 58-55.

Then, after another Charlotte basket Michigan cut it to 60-58 on a 3-pointer by Zak Irvin.

Michigan fouled, and Williams hit 1 of 2 free throws.

The Wolverines came up empty on the next possession, but after a foul this time Williams missed the front end of a 1-and-1.

Spike Albrecht was fouled in a scramble on Michigan’s next trip down the floor and hit the first of his free throws to make it 61-59. He missed the second, but a scramble for the rebound ended up in a jump ball and the possession arrow favored Michigan with 11.4 seconds left.

McGary got free on the inbounds pass for a layup, but Charlotte quickly pushed the ball up the floor to set up the final sequence.

“Another March game played in November,” Michigan coach John Beilein said. “Charlotte was really good… We’re embracing this and saying, ‘What a great opportunity to grow.’ We had adversity tonight like we hadn’t had, and we just kept plugging away.

“It’s all good. I know that sounds crazy, but it’s all good to come into that environment, play as hard as we did and fight back to have a chance to win.”

Major said it’s way too early to think about what his team’s ceiling might be this season, though.

“Our thing is gonna be let’s take the good from these three games and try to store that away,” Major said. “We can still get better. Let’s take improvement and see where we can go from here. I think it gives the guys a taste of how good we can be at some point. But what that is, I don’t know.”

NFL Prediction Week 12 Preview & Pick- 49ers vs. Redskins

NFL free pick and Prediction for Monday nights game San Francisco vs Washington

San Francisco 49ers (6-4) @ Washington Redskins (3-7) 11/25- 8:30PM EST

Line: SF -5.0

Over/Under: 47.0

Monday night’s game will feature two teams in the midst of a two game losing streak as the San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins featuring their quarterbacks Colin Kaepernick and Robert Griffin III meeting head-to-head for the first time as the two took the NFL by storm last year season as full-time starters.

Kaepernick and Griffin led their teams to division titles a year ago, however 2013 has proven to be a lot different as these two quarterbacks will now try to avoid having their teams lose three straight.

San Francisco (6-4) were strong favorites to return to the Super Bowl this year, but now find themselves 2½ games behind the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West and will likely need a strong finish in their last six games to earn a wild-card spot.

I think we are (surprised) but we still have six more to go,” Kaepernick said. “And we can still finish this season 12-4.”
Kaepernick is ranked 31st in completion percentage at 56.2 with only 11 touchdown passes.

Griffin has completed 59.7 percent of his passes with 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions as his Washington Redskins (3-7) are in last place in a bad NFC East.

The two quarterbacks share similar numbers as well with passing ratings and rushing yards… Griffin at 83.6 with 345 yards on the ground (third among QB’s) and Kaepernick at 81.8 with 335, good for fourth.

Kaepernick does have three rushing touchdowns to RG3’s zero.

As explosive as Griffin was last year, let’s remember he is coming off reconstructive knee surgery.

If your talking about Robert or a guy like Kaepernick, everybody comes from different systems and when you go to the National Football League and you’re working with a drop-back passing game and you’ve haven’t done a lot of that, it takes some repetition,” Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said. ‘Whoever has been in those shoes realizes that it doesn’t happen overnight.”

Kaepernick’s passing game as really suffered this year where he has only 24 pass plays for 20 yards or more… third-worst total in the league.

But with the possibility of receiver Michael Crabtree making his season debut, that may help the 49ers offense stretch the field.

We’ll see,” coach Jim Harbaugh said. “I think he’s close.”

Robert Griffin’s leadership has come under fire following last weeks 24-16 loss at Philadelphia in which his attempt to rally Washington from a 24-point deficit ended with an interception. Following the loss, his initial comments didn’t set to well as he seemed to excuse himself from all blame, then clarified himself on Wednesday.

I feel like for myself, moving forward, I have to be more wary of the hostility,” Griffin said. “I was trying to give a compliment to Philadelphia’s defense and it was taken as shot against my coaches. It wasn’t.”

The oddsmakers have seemed to lost faith in the Redskins this year, where despite them being at home have made the 49ers a (minus) -5.5 point favorite going into Monday night. But as always, continue to check the latest spreads here at Wonder Punter leading up ‘til game time.

Washington is headed for it’s third last-place finish in four seasons under Mike Shanahan, who defended the direction of the franchise.
In the future it will get better,” Shanahan said. “because we do have the ability to get more depth, we’ve got the ability to add some players on both sides of the football, and that gives you a chance to get better as a football team.”

It may come down to the better running game on Monday night where both teams do well running the ball.. Washington at 155.2 yards per game (first in the NFL) and San Francisco fifth at 141.0.

I predict the 49ers will play with more of a sense of urgency as they realize they have the wild-card spot within their reach if they can get it turned around.

Brooks Fined For Hit On Brees

The NFL fined San Francisco 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks $15,750 for his hit Sunday on New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Brooks was penalized for a personal foul, which negated a sack and fumble and enabled the Saints to keep up possession for a recreation-tying area objective by Garrett Hartley within the fourth quarter. The Saints won 23-20 as Hartley made another discipline objective as time expired.

Brees described the hit as a clothesline tackle, with the preliminary contact going down at the chest and going throughout his neck and chin as he went to the bottom.

Brooks was fuming after the game, incredulous that he was penalized for the hit.

“I did not hit him with my hand or my helmet,” Brooks informed reporters, in response to the San Francisco Chronicle. “I basically bear-hugged him. That is just how football is played. I feel this s- is bulls-. Football, the best way they name stuff nowadays, it is watered down. It ain’t real no more.”

Brees instructed reporters Tuesday he does not suppose the hit was malicious, or even intentional, however that he believes it was a penalty.

“I don’t think what Ahmad Brooks did was intentional at all,” Brees stated. “I think he is a heck of a soccer player and a clean football participant. A hard-nosed, clean football participant.

Ahmad Brooks and Drew Brees

Linebacker Ahmad Brooks says he shouldn’t have been flagged for this hit on Drew Brees that negated a 49ers fumble recovery.

“But you look at the results of that … and again in actual time … you’ll be able to gradual it down all you want and watch it and say, ‘Look where the [arm is].’ However I can tell you how I felt when I bought hit. It felt like I obtained my head ripped off. And I stand up and I’ve bought a mouth filled with blood. So there was little doubt in my mind that, ‘Hey, it is gonna be a penalty.'”

49ers coach Jim Harbaugh mentioned Monday that he thought Brooks’ hit was authorized.

“Once we grade a player, if he has a penalty, we give him a minus,” Harbaugh stated, in response to the team’s website. “We did not assign a minus on that play. Thought he made a fantastic play, simply didn’t get the outcome.”

On Tuesday, NFL vp of officiating Dean Blandino mentioned the officials in Sunday’s recreation obtained the decision proper.

“You may’t make forcible contact to the pinnacle or the neck area, even when the contact begins beneath the neck and rises up,” Blandino said in an appearance on NFL Network. “If there’s pressure to that contact, it is a foul. Watch the initial contact, maybe across the shoulder, but it surely rides up into the neck area and brings the quarterback down with drive. That is why the flag was thrown for pointless roughness.”

49ers’ Brooks fumes over flag on Brees hit

Reaction To Brooks’ Hit On Brees

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks was fuming Sunday after he was known as for a roughing the passer penalty that negated a Drew Brees fumble that might have sealed a victory over the New Orleans Saints.

Ahmad Brooks and Drew Brees

Linebacker Ahmad Brooks says he shouldn’t have been flagged for this hit on Drew Brees that negated a 49ers fumble restoration.

Brooks burst into the backfield and leveled Brees with simply over three minutes left within the fourth quarter, forcing a fumble that was recovered by teammate Patrick Willis. If the play had stood, the 49ers, up 20-17 on the time, may need been in a position to run out the clock.

Brooks was flagged for hitting Brees in the head and neck on a violent sack that left Brees with blood on his chin. The Saints capitalized on Brooks’ penalty with a tying 42-yard discipline aim by Garrett Hartley, then gained 23-20 on a 31-yarder by Hartley as time expired.

“I did not hit him with my hand or my helmet,” Brooks told reporters, in response to the San Francisco Chronicle. “I mainly bear-hugged him. That’s just how football is performed. I feel this s- is bull-. Football, the best way they call stuff nowadays, it’s watered down. It ain’t real no extra.”

Brees, however, believes the call was right.

“All I bear in mind is simply getting garments-lined in the chin, and as I’m on the ground I am saying, ‘That’s bought to be a flag,”’ Brees said.

“One in all my teammates kind of picked me up and said, ‘Are you all right?’ And he said, ‘Don’t be concerned, there is a flag.’ I mentioned, ‘All proper, good.”’

49ers coach Jim Harbaugh stated Monday that he thought Brooks’ hit was legal.

“Once we grade a player, if he has a penalty, we give him a minus,” Harbaugh stated, in line with the group’s web site. “We did not assign a minus on that play. Thought he made an amazing play, simply did not get the consequence.”

On Sunday, Brooks even instructed the officers made the decision as a result of the Saints were playing at house.

“It was Drew Brees. And perhaps the officials were for the New Orleans Saints a little bit bit greater than the 49ers. I think it is B.S., man,” he said, in line with the Chronicle.

No Super Bowl loser has returned to the Super Bowl the next year since the Buffalo Payments in 1993, and the 49ers (6-4) have put themselves in a tough place, falling three½ games behind the NFC West-leading Seattle Seahawks (10-1).

“It was very irritating. The sport may have gone a very totally different direction than what it went,” Brooks mentioned. “I was simply mad as a result of that was a big play in the sport. We lost, and that’s probably the explanation why.”

Whereas he was protesting the penalty referred to as on him, Brooks took the opportunity to marketing campaign for the NFL to guard defensive players, as properly.

“They’re making an attempt to guard the gamers around the NFL as a lot as attainable, but I feel they defend the offensive gamers a little bit an excessive amount of,” he advised reporters. “We still get chopped in the defensive line. We nonetheless get reduce-blocked from the offensive linemen and so they do not do something about that. If you are going to shield everyone, then how about they alter the principles on [the] chop block?”

NFL Prediction Week 11 Game Preview/Pick- 49ers vs. Saints

49ers vs Saints Prediction and Pick

San Francisco 49ers (6-3) @ New Orleans Saints (7-2) 11/17- 4:25PM EST

Line: NO -3.0

Over/Under: 47.5

Making their first trip to the Big Easy since this year’s Super Bowl loss, the San Francisco 49ers will have yet another challenge to face when they must find a way to slow down the New Orleans Saints… a team that thrives under the Superdome lights in an NFC showdown Sunday afternoon.

New Orleans (7-2) has been dominating this year at home, outscoring their opponents 176-75 while going undefeated at 5-0 and looking to stay ahead in the NFC South over the hot Carolina Panthers.

In what will be another measuring stick for both teams, the 49ers (6-3) will be trying to avoid back-to-back defeats after dropping a tough 10-9 home loss to the Panthers last Sunday at Candlestick.

We’ve got a tough game coming up, and we’re not going to wallow in (the loss to Carolina),” 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said. “We’re going to move to New Orleans.”

New Orleans will be looking to win yet another home game after last weeks thrashing of the Dallas Cowboys on national television where they accumulated a regular season team-record 625 yards and recorded an NFL-record 40 first downs against the Dallas defense.

You don’t play many games like that, and every once in a while you find yourself on the good end and sometimes you find yourself once in a while on the bad end,” New Orleans coach Sean Payton said. “You hope when your career is done you have more experiences on the good end.”

The Saints also found some balance against the Cowboys on the offensive side of the ball where Drew Bress passed for 392 yards and the running game came up big with 242 yards after going in averaging only 79.8 yards per contest.

It’s important for us to have that balance,” Payton said.

Bress is on fire at home where he has completed 74.4 percent of his passes and averaged 367.2 yards passing while tossing 18 touchdowns and only two interceptions… none in the last three home games.

If not that wasn’t enough, the Saints average 463.6 yards and 35.2 points per game at the Dome, but San Francisco’s defense ranks fourth in the league allowing only 17.2 points per game, so something as to give.

And, it’s that 49ers defense that the oddsmakers are banking on making the Saints only slight favorites with only a (minus) -3.0 in the latest line spread, but as always, Wonder Punter will provide the latest odds up until kickoff, so check back often.

With last weeks loss still fresh in their minds, San Francisco must focus their attention on the offensive side of the ball where the Saints defense is allowing only 18.1 points.

After averaging 34.8 points a game during their five-game win streak and 357.6 yards, the Niners could only put together 9 points on 151 yards total against the Panthers.
The way we look at it as a unit. Offensively, we didn’t play well enough to win the game,” Harbaugh said. “Across the board, we take accountability for that and have fingerprints on it. I’m not going to go through and dissect position by position, raking anybody over the coals. I don’t think that’s the best thing for us.”

Coach Harbaugh added… “I think their mindset will be what it’s always been, it’s a blue-collar mindset. That involves fixing things, building things, sutures in our hands and the weapons are in our hands, our fate is in our hands.”

With Mario Manningham making his season debut last week, he will provide an added boost to an offensive looking to get back on track.

Tight end Vernon Davis is questionable for Sunday after suffering a concussion against the Panthers and receiver Michael Crabtree is an outside shot for his season debut following his Achilles injury in May.

San Francisco has won two straight over the Saints, but come Sunday and the way the New Orleans plays at home, I would be hard-pressed not to go with the Saints as my favorite.

PICK: New Orleans

49ers LB Aldon Smith vows to stay healthy, clean (Yahoo Sports)

ANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) – Aldon Smith believes he is on the path to being sober for good.

Part of the process for the San Francisco 49ers’ All-Pro linebacker to rejoin the team following a five-week stint in rehab included a verbal commitment to the NFL that he would stay out of trouble and keep clean.

”I think any time we could all look into our lives and find something we need to work on,” Smith said Tuesday, seemingly relaxed. ”I’ve taken my time and I’ve done that.”

A clean-cut Smith – hair trimmed from his previous long, curly cut – returned to the 49ers’ locker room after his long absence and five missed games to cheers from teammates who chanted his first name. Everybody knows what he means to this franchise and defense – and the 49ers are hopeful he is as healthy as he looks and ready to return to the field as soon as Sunday’s home game with Carolina.

”I’m getting there. Every day’s just a step closer to getting to where I want to be,” Smith said at his locker after practice. ”I’ve gotten a lot of support, from my family, friends, organization, teammates and everything. And it really says a lot that people care about me outside the field and they care about me as a person.”

Smith had been on an indefinite paid leave of absence before being activated to the 53-man roster Thursday, two days after he turned himself in to Santa Clara County authorities on weapons charges. He met last Wednesday with team officials.

The fearsome pass-rusher is in shape despite a couple of extra pounds gained during his stint at an in-patient treatment center for substance abuse. He was at a facility outside California, he said, while declining to offer further details. He said he returned to the Bay Area on Oct. 28 after entering rehab in late September – and he was away for his 24th birthday Sept. 25.

Defensive teammate and fellow linebacker Patrick Willis is among those who sent periodic text messages to Smith during his time away.

”Aldon has been a guy since he came in who has been very productive for our defense, has been a playmaker for our defense,” Willis said. ”To get him back is a good thing, then, too, with his absence we were able to develop some depth with some of the other guys. It’s really going to be a strong point for us. When you have a guy such as Aldon with his talent, the biggest thing we can do for him is just let him know we’re here for him, let him know that we’re his teammates, but the main thing is just let him grow on his own.”

Smith played in a 27-7 home loss to the Colts on Sept. 22 and had five tackles just two days after he was arrested and jailed on suspicion of DUI and marijuana possession. He apologized for his behavior after the game then later announced he would leave for treatment.

”Of course, I didn’t want to be away from the sport I love. But it was good for me to get away and get my mind together and work, like I say, just to get to the positive spot I need to be at,” he said. ”I caught some of the games, some that were broadcast over there. So I was able to keep up with the guys and chime in here and there and wish them good luck.”

Smith had a franchise-record 19 1/2 sacks last season for the NFC champions. He has 4 1/2 sacks and 18 tackles over three games in 2013.

NFL Scores Sunday Night Football Recap- Texans vs. 49ers

NFL Scores Sunday nights football recap – Texans vs 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers (3-2) have appeared to have found their winning ways once again after what was supposed to be a battle of two good football teams turned into a one-sided affair, as the Houston Texans (2-3) were embarrassed in a prime-time showdown on Sunday night 34-3.

The San Francisco defense had three interceptions on the night, the first of the three taken back for a touchdown just 90 seconds into the game.

Struggling Texans’ quarterback Matt Schaub threw three picks on the night before being lifted in the fourth quarter, but Houston coach Gary Kubiak said afterward Schaub would remain the his starter… for now.

It’s a broken record right now. It looked the same,” Kubiak said. “Hopefully, that’s rock bottom tonight.”

Matt Schaub has had four straight games where an interception was returned for a touchdown. A first for an NFL quarterback.

The 49ers have had two impressive prime-time games and now at 3-2 find themselves right back in the race in the NFC West with the now (4-1) Seattle Seahawks who lost earlier on the day.

San Francisco have outscored their last two opponents by a score of 69-14. In their two back-to-back losses, they were outscored 56-10 to Seattle and Indianapolis.

We’re the 49ers. When we’re on, we can do whatever we want to do,” Gore said. “That’s probably the best front we’ve gone through all season, and up front our O-line did the job. If it’s smash-mouth football, we’ll do it.”

Tramaine Brock of the Niners had two of the three picks on the night. The Texans also coughed up the ball up twice on fumbles for five total miscues for the game.

That’s what we’re striving for, turnovers,” he said. “We’ve got them. I just did my job and tried to step up.”

San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick was an unimpressive six of fifteen for only 113 yards and one touchdown, however it was all about the 49er defense that won the game.

Next up for the 49ers are the Arizona Cardinals and Houston looks to rebound against the Rams.

NFL Sunday Night Football Preview/Pick Texans vs. 49ers

NFL Sunday Night Football Preview/Pick Texans vs. 49ers

Houston Texans (2-2) @ San Francisco 49ers (2-2) 10/6 8:30PM EST

Line: SF -6.5

Over/Under: 41.5

In what figures to be a good battle between two football teams looking to get back to their winning ways, the Houston Texans travel into Candlestick Park on Sunday night for a Sunday night clash with the San Francisco 49ers.

The 49ers have regained some confidence in their play following a dominating win against the lowly St. Louis Rams last Thursday night 35-11. Coach Jim Harbaugh said, “I thought the team stared adversity in the face (with) a lot of grit and determination. The guys played with great energy and great toughness.”

Expectations have been high for both teams this season. Many thought to be Super Bowl contenders, however the Texans and Niners have both struggled early. San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick says, “We know the talent we have on this team. We know what we are capable of.”

San Francisco is still without All-Pro Aldon Smith (rehab facility), and Patrick Willis (groin) is still uncertain.

Winning betting sytem Click Here!

As for Houston, after starting the season 2-0, they have dropped their last two games, and want to avoid losing three straight. Quarterback Matt Schaub needs to improve after being picked off for six interceptions so far. But, despite the struggles of Schaub, Texans coach Gary Kubiak has no plans to make a quarterback change. “We’re a very capable football team, but we’ve got to be a more consistent football team.” On Schaub, Kubiak says, “ He’s our quarterback.”

Expect the Texans to rely heavily on running back Arian Foster more on Sunday night, who rushed for 171 total yards last Sunday against a good Seahawks’ defense. The Texans may be without All-Pro linebacker Brian Cushing (concussion), who leads the team with 33 tackles.

The Texans and 49ers have split their previous two meetings. Each winning at home by three points.

I believe both are still a lot better then their record indicates. If Texan quarterback Matt Schaub can be more consistent, and stay away with costly interceptions, I like their chances. In the end though, I believe with the 49ers playing at home will give them enough win in a close one.

49er Going for a name change- ‘Hitner’ after fine

San Francisco 49ers security Donte Whitner, who has revealed he was fined $21,000 by the league for a hit throughout last Thursday evening’s victory over the St. Louis Rams, said Wednesday he is dropping the “W” from his final name.

“I actually put the paperwork in yesterday afternoon. Just waiting to get the paperwork out,” he said in a conference name with the Houston media. “So from right here on out till I retire, my name will be Donte Hitner, without the W.”

Earlier Wednesday, he had revealed his name change in a tweet.

Whitner also confirmed to reporters in Santa Clara, Calif., that he was altering his identify. He mentioned he’d like to get it modified on his uniform by Sunday’s recreation however admitted that is likely to be unrealistic.

“That’s what I do. It is my final title and removing a letter makes it fairly cool,” he stated, including that some fans already name him “Hitner” anyway.

The name change will not be low-cost for Whitner. A league official advised ESPN’s Darren Rovell that NFL guidelines stipulate that if a player changes his identify throughout an NFL season, he is required to purchase all of the remaining stock of merchandise with the old title that hasn’t been bought.

Whitner mentioned he had thought-about the title change within the offseason but that his mom wouldn’t go for it.

Apparently, she has modified her mind.

“I’m perpetually going to be her son and her little boy, so I’ve to take heed to what she says,” Whitner said. “In spite of everything of these hits and people speaking about it, I requested her again three nights in the past. She said, ‘I don’t have an issue with it, go ahead.’ So I went forward and did it yesterday.”

Whitner has been vital of the NFL’s crackdown on hits and has stated “it seems like on any massive hit, they make the call on what the hit looks like.”

The protection, who also has urged the NFL should use replay to find out if hits warrant penalties, mentioned his identify change is a protest against the league’s mandate in “the correct way.”

“I’m not out there head-searching, hitting guys helmet to helmet. I need to present guys can hit onerous and bring worry doing it the authorized means,” he stated.

“It is a powerful sport. This is a sport for grown males. After we signed up for that, everyone knows that. Should you don’t need to play football, you do not need to be bodily, you don’t need to be hit, do not come around guys that prefer to hit. That’s the game of football, simply do it the precise way.”

Whitner mentioned he is not frightened that his title change will make him a bigger goal for flags and fines in the future.

“You may continue to take a look at me, but when I am doing it the best method, what can you do?” he said.

49ers coach Jim Harbaugh, who spoke Wednesday before Whitner addressed the media, was unaware of his safety’s title change, but quarterback Colin Kaepernick was a fan of the transfer.

“It’s kind of catchy.. Good change,” he stated.

Whitner said he was fined for his hit on Rams receiver Chris Givens in the long run zone with simply lower than six minutes to play in the 49ers’ 35-eleven victory. He mentioned he’ll appeal the superb as a result of he “lowered my shoulder and went for the midsection, the place the ball was.”

Whitner appeared to show his shoulder into Givens in a successful try and knock the ball free. He was referred to as for pointless roughness.

Ravens’ Suggs talks to Goodell, blackout

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs accuses NFL commissioner Roger Goodell of having a job within the Super Bowl blackout during an interview on ESPN’s “E:60″ that can air Tuesday.

[+] EnlargeSan Francisco 49ersMatthew Emmons/USA RIGHT THIS MOMENT Sports activitiesThe Ravens led the 49ers 28-6 earlier than the lights went out for 34 minutes on the Superdome within the Tremendous Bowl. San Francisco rallied after the blackout, forcing Baltimore to hold on for a good win.

“I used to be like Vegas, parlor methods, you already know what I imply?” Suggs stated. “I was like, ahh, Roger Goodell, he never stops, he all the time has something up his sleeve. He just could not let us have this one in a landslide, huh?”

The lights went out early in the third quarter of February’s Super Bowl between the Ravens and San Francisco 49ers, shortly after Jacoby Jones’ 108-yard kickoff return gave Baltimore a 28-6 lead. The unprecedented Super Bowl moment delayed the game for 34 minutes. San Francisco then scored 17 unanswered factors as soon as the game resumed, and the Ravens needed a late fourth-quarter stand in the purple zone to prevail.

ESPN NFL commentator and former Raven Ray Lewis introduced up a conspiracy principle on the “America’s Sport” documentary series that the ability outage might have been a ploy to assist the 49ers regroup, however Suggs pointed the finger straight at Goodell.

“I assumed he had a hand in it,” Suggs stated. “Most undoubtedly, he had a hand in it.”

Suggs mentioned he believes Goodell favors some groups over others.

“We stroll out of the Denver sport, and linebackers are warming up on their sideline, and who can we see speaking with John Elway, and it’s like hmmm. I thought, your commissioner is meant to be impartial,” Suggs stated. “He ain’t imagined to be on one aspect or the other; he is purported to be within the field. I noticed him on their sideline and I was like, huh, I do know who he’s going for. I feel he undoubtedly has his favorites.”

Suggs added, “He’ll deny it, but, like I said, when I run out of the tunnel and the very first thing I see is John Elway laughing it up, I am undoubtedly going to really feel some way about that. You’re the commissioner of this league and also you’re supposed to make sure the whole lot is being played on an even taking part in discipline. I undoubtedly don’t assume he is doing a very good job, and I do not think he should be making $10 million a yr. That is simply my private opinion.”

Goodell really made $29.49 million in 2012, in accordance with the league’s tax return.
