The Philadelphia Flyers already had their arms full with the Rangers and Henrik Lundqvist as their first-round playoff foe, now they will have to begin the series without their high goaltender.

Steve Mason has been battling an upper-body harm however just a couple days in the past coach Craig Berube was hopeful he'd be OK for the beginning of the playoffs. He is not. Mason will not costume for Game 1 on Thursday.

Mason is not even travelling with the Flyers to New York which might normally put Sport 2 in critical doubt as well but it's not as though Mason could not make the trip in a few hours so that's not an actual indication but.

Even lacking one recreation, though, puts the Flyers in a tricky spot. As maligned as Mason is from his horrible ultimate years in Columbus, he has been good for the Flyers this season. Not outstanding but undoubtedly good and better than the Flyers have had in net for a very long time. He took over the No. 1 role early and posted a917 save share with 33 wins in 61 games. There have been occasions in the season that Mason carried the Flyers.

No less than in Emery they do have an experienced guy to show to however he has not had a great season in his return to the Flyers. He started 21 games and struggled, going 9-12-2 with a903 save proportion. No less than Emery has been good in his profession in opposition to the Rangers, so there's that.

Cal Heeter, who played the ultimate sport of the season, will serve as the backup to Emery in Recreation 1 and for nevertheless long Mason may be out.
